COSTUMES
"People wear costumes. People wear masks. Every day," says Ty Lee, her lips downturned in a thoughtful frown.
"How astute," coldly replies Princess Azula, sitting down beside her long distance girlfriend. Well, more of an affair that sparks up whenever Ty Lee is in town and then fades away when she is gone. "Why does that matter? Usually you say flattering things about me or complaints about the weather when you simply speak out of nowhere."
"I was just thinking about how nobody knows about us. How nobody knows how much we're in love. I feel like we're always pretending," whispers Ty Lee, eyeing Azula nervously.
"We made a decision. I stand by it and therefore so should you," Azula says, although she begins to think that perhaps she agrees with Ty Lee. Yet, she is not one to back down or regret her choices.
"Princess," says Ty Lee softly, "we can make another decision. We can take off the costumes and masks."
"You are flighty. You are not forever. I doubt we have a future."
Ty Lee touches Azula's face gently and breathes, "But we have a now."
Azula turns away. Ty Lee wants to grab her and spin her around but she is not brave enough.
She supposes nothing will change.
It never does.
