Chapter 42: Our Special Place
It's way passed 3am but I'm wide-awake, slightly shaken. I'm sat gazing into the common room's fireplace after having more nightmares. The dreamless sleep potions weren't working, and Professor Cullen daren't give me a higher dosage. I just haven't managed to shake the sullen feeling I've had, since returning from the Gaunt estate last week. I'd shouted at Sirius yesterday afternoon, when he was being persistent with public displays of affection towards me. He hasn't spoken to me since. In fact, he'd been distancing himself from me all week, probably because I've been irritable. I hated that I was acting this way, but couldn't seem to help it, probably because I haven't had a good night's sleep all week. I continued to gaze into the fireplace, until a voice appeared behind me in the common room.
"Mynee... what're you doing awake so early?" I glanced towards Sirius, whom was leaning against the wall.
"Nightmares," I said. Sirius frowned. He wandered across the common room, taking the seat beside me. I watched as he hesitated over hugging me. I hugged him, leaning up to kiss him. This seemed to make him relax; a gorgeous smile appeared on his lips. I'd been having nightmares about not being able to change the future. Sirius always ended up in Azkaban in these nightmares. I wouldn't handle seeing Sirius carted off to Azkaban for 12 years, not when he's innocent. The second nightmare tonight was of us killing Pettigrew together, and becoming the infamous Mr. and Mrs. Black. It was a peculiar dream. I tightened my arms around Sirius's waist, whilst he began massaging the crown of my head with his fingertips.
"Wanna talk about them?" He asked.
I kissed him again, before responding. "Hmmm, well... it was about failing this task. I saw you been dragged off to Azkaban, then woke up in a bit of a panic."
Sirius was silent for a moment, before responding. "What was I like after Azkaban?" I was squeezing Sirius quite tightly by now, because thinking about the nightmares upset me.
"The first time I saw your eyes in person, there was no life in them; you looked like a murderer. You were short-tempered, reckless and sullen. You talked about James a lot... and before you died you accidentally called Harry, James. I could tell you missed him... my second dream was about us killing Wormtail together and becoming the infamous Mr. and Mrs. Black. We both ended up in Azkaban." Sirius smirked as I mentioned my second dream.
"Well, they're just dreams... side effects from all the dark magical residue surrounding the Gaunt's estate." Sirius kissed me again. We kissed for a few minutes, mainly because I didn't want to talk about the nightmares anymore, and I was enjoying his company. Sirius eventually pushed away and brushed back my hair. "You want to get some sleep? You can come sleep in my bed with me... I won't let the nightmares hurt you." A wide smile appeared on my lips, as I brushed my fingers through his hair.
"Awww, my Padfoot's being a drippy sod." I cooed. Sirius raised his eyebrows, which made me giggle and hop to my feet. "Come on, let's go to bed." I took Sirius's hand, dragging him to his feet, and then leading him off towards the boys' dormitory. Once we were curled up in Sirius's bed, Sirius whispered into my ear.
"Sweet dreams."
I felt a little better the following morning as I woke up in Sirius's arms. I could tell he hadn't been sleeping very well, because he has dark circles under his eyes. I ran my fingers through his hair a few times, before his eyes opened. I kissed him.
"Morning," I mumbled.
Sirius smiled, "morning." He tightened his arms around me. We lay in silence for a few moments, until James threw open Sirius's curtains.
"Are you going to sleep all day?!" James said. I dragged Sirius out of bed at this point. Neither of us replied to James, as I led Sirius off out of the dormitory and down out of Gryffindor tower.
"Where are we going?" Sirius asked, in amusement.
"Somewhere Prongsie can't interrupt us," I replied.
"We're in pyjamas," Sirius commented.
"I know," I said as we reached the 7th floor corridor.
"Oh," Sirius continued, "going to our special place, are we?" I smirked. I couldn't believe we still hadn't told the others about the Room of Requirements. We walked up and down the corridor, whilst I thought about a somewhere to spend a relaxing day with Sirius. The door to the Room of Requirements appeared a few moments later. We stayed in the Room of Requirements all day. I definitely needed a day of quality Sirius time. I don't remember the last time we'd been alone as a couple. I felt almost normal as we left the Room of Requirements shortly before dinner. We headed back to Gryffindor tower to change out of our pyjamas for dinner. The Marauders were in the common room as we entered through the portrait. James's face dropped at the sight of us.
"Where have you been all day?" He stammered.
Sirius grinned, "our special place." I smirked, heading up to the girl's dormitory. It has been a really lovely day. I could've stayed in the Room of Requirements with Sirius forever.
