Ghost King Danny: Book 1

A The Horsemen's Commander Production

Chapter 25- Vladimir Masters' Ghost Lab/The True King PT. 4

Author's Note: Let's get started, shall we?

Last Time:

Vlad spent many hours telling the Fentons and Daniel's friends about his lab and certain items that he spent time creating, before leading them over to a familiar, yet unfamiliar octagonal shape, with a swirling pink mass in the center of it.

Vlad's ghost portal.

This Time:

The pink swirl of the portal captivated the six guests within Vlad's home. While Danny had seen the portal before, he was kind of in a rush trying to get away from Vlad, who was trying to kill him at the time. Unfortunately, now Vlad seemed hellbent on making him his son, and his mother his wife. Now that Vlad wasn't actively trying to kill him, he had much more time to look around his portal. It, not surprisingly to Danny, which in itself surprised him, was almost an exact replica of his parent's portal. He wouldn't put it past Vlad to have stolen the portal plans from his parent's lab.

"This, obviously is my ghost portal." Vlad spoke with a schooled calm look to his demeanor.

"How did you build this, Vlad? We hadn't seen you since the last time we worked on a portal at all, and that was over 20 years ago!" Maddie asked, surprise in her voice. At the question, Vlad laughed with glee, a sound that Danny never really equated with anything good, despite what a certain English teacher at his school might say.

"Oh, Maddeline, you didn't think you were the only one to take notes during college, did you? I had my own notes of that project of course."

"Of course, I knew that you took notes Vlad. It's just that whenever I looked at your notes during the project, they weren't as detailed." Maddie was slightly embarrassed. Of course Vlad would have taken notes, why wouldn't he? It simply surprised Maddie that he kept detailed notes on the project that, in his soft-spoken mutterings that he thought no one could hear—save Maddie—ruined his life and left him in the hospital for years. Vlad's baritone brought her out of her musings of the past though as he spoke.

"Yes, well, I realized that maybe something malfunctioned with our version back in college, and I sought to fix it." Vlad said.

Maddie thought back to that incident in The University of Wisconsin-Madison with the portal wondering what caused his accident. She remembered standing next to Jack as he grabbed the ecto-filter, and then everything was a blur after that. Strange. She could usually remember things very well. It was what got her into U.W.M. after all. So, what happened between the time Jack picked up the filter, and after?

"Vlad? Just out of curiosity, what happened to the portal the first time around? Do you remember?" Maddie asked.

Vlad looked toward her with a semi-thoughtful look on his face. Danny was looking at him, as were his friends with a stony look. A look that Vlad had perfected over his 20 years of half-ghost life. 'He knows something.' Vlad thought. 'I know that face. That face is the face I spent twenty years perfecting. The face I use when I'm hiding something big. What do you know, Little Badger?' He resolved to find out soon, hopefully later on today, and if not, tomorrow for sure.

Author's Note: Hi. Been a while, huh? I'm back now though, what's it been, a year and seven months? Well I'm back now. I've had this chapter half complete for a while now and just got my muse back finally. Expect regular updates. Not daily though, maybe weekly? I don't know. Just expect more from me coming soon!

See you, my friends!
