CHAPTER 2
LINE BREAK
LAST TIME…
"Hi!" he said shyly. "You must be new here. I'm Owen."
Abby smiled at him as if he reminded her of her former friend Thomas back then. "I'm Abby."
Little did Abby know, as well as her vampire sister Anna…their lives are about to change forever towards this new person who stumbled into their lives known as…Owen.
LINE BREAK
Owen smiled shyly at Abby. "So…are you going to high school in a town near here?"
Abby shook her head. "Not yet. We just moved and gotten here. My older sister hasn't enrolled me in yet."
"Oh…okay. Well, I hope that you'll be there. I'm a junior that just started as well, and I'll be able to help you around once you get in." Owen said, sounding excited to have someone new like her there in his school.
Abby smiled. "That will be great. Thanks."
"Abby, who is this?"
Abby gasped and she and Owen turned around and saw Anna in a dark trench coat. Abby almost forgot that she was waiting for Anna to come back, but she was relieved that her 'sister' found something to cover herself and hide her wings.
"Oh, Anna! Hi! Um…Owen, this is my sister Anna. Anna—this is Owen." Abby said, introducing them.
Owen reached out a hand towards Anna and said nervously in an almost stutter at her intimidating presence. "It's n-nice to meet you, ma'am."
Anna regarded him for a silent moment before she studied Owen's hand as if it's strange to her and then she reached out and shook it. "Nice to meet you too," Anna said calmly.
Then Anna turned to glance at Abby with a pointed look that says straight to her mind 'What did I tell you about talking to strangers? Especially boys.' Abby blushed under her sister's scrutiny and ducked her head down embarrassed.
Then Abby said. "Anna, Owen's been telling me about the high school he went into. Can I go there? Please? He'll be showing me around."
Anna frowned for a silent moment before she said. "We'll talk about this later, Abby. Right now, we're going home."
Abby sighed, knowing better than to press further or argue and nodded. "Okay."
She turned and smiled at Owen again. "I'll see you later."
Owen looked excited at this and nodded to her. "Me too!"
Then he watched Abby and Anna left, as they walked on the path towards wherever house they're staying in.
And after seeing them go around the corner and left, Owen turned around and walked down the path back to his house.
LINE BREAK
Anna and Abby have reached towards the house which they managed to find a place to stay for the time being.
And as soon as the two girls entered through the door, Anna rounded to Abby and said harshly. "What was that all about?! You know I told you about not meeting any people for the first time when we just moved here."
Abby sighed, "I know…I'm sorry, Anna. It's just…he was nice."
Anna shook her head. "Nice or not, he's still a stranger. I don't think it's safe for you to make friends so quickly—yet."
She added the last part when she noticed Abby looking sad and crestfallen over what she said, and Anna hated it on seeing her little human upset so she cheered her up a little, even though she's still cautious and wary over other humans she's not familiar with after what happened last time.
Abby beamed at this and decided to brave and asked her. "So…the school that I'll be going in…can I go at Owen's?"
Anna wanted to refuse at first but seeing the pleading look again on her little 'sister's' face, she had no choice but to comply for now. "Since I haven't seen or found any other schools suitable-I guess that I can sign you up there."
Abby almost squealed aloud and hugged Anna in a tight bear-hug with joy. "Thanks, Anna! You're the best!"
Anna rolled her eyes at her antics and wriggled to get her off. "Alright, alright. You better get your stuff ready when you and I go to that school and register you in," she said.
Abby quickly bounded off in a hurry to prepare what she needed to bring to her new school and Anna sighed again, shaking her head as she watched her leave.
How long has it been since that girl came into my life? Time sure does pass by so fast even if you're a vampire.
Anna thought to herself fondly as she remembered the time she first met Abby and the time she chose to adopt her as her own despite that she's a blood-sucking monster.

FLASHBACK
Anna was hunting late at night, flying with her dark wings flapping in the wind silently and high in the sky.
She was looking for prey with her red sharp eyesight and finding the prey she needed that won't bring instant attention from the human authorities. Namely, the prey she's looking for is the homeless or runaways in the streets.
Little did she know, that the prey she'll be striking at that night is something she will not expect and had never thought it will happen.
She heard a human woman scream somewhere in the urban apartments of the poorer society and she would've ignored it as usual since she knows that crime is normal in the cities, but then she heard a child crying.
That stopped her in mid-flight.
Even though she's been a vampire for a long time and has long killed people for their blood to feed herself, there is only one thing that softens Anna's undead heart and also something that she will never cross a line for as a blood-sucking creature.
It is children.
Innocent and young children have long since touched Anna's heart even before and after she's been turned into a dark being.
Anna zeroed in on where she heard the cry and made a swooping dive towards that direction.
What she found when she got there disgusted her to the point that she decided not to kill them and have them as her blood prey.
Three burly men had killed the mother of the crying child that she had heard before and those despicable beings were complaining aloud, not knowing that they had a listening observer from above, that they were denied of their fun and enjoyment on raping the woman and decided to turn their attention to the little girl.
The female human child is so young that she would die quickly from the horrendous acts about to do from the three large adult men.
Upon seeing this, Anna didn't hesitate as she swooped in with a chilling attack cry that froze the three men like statues and they didn't have time to react when she attacked one of them with a slice right through his throat with her sharp claws.
The two men yelled and looked around, trying to find their attacker as their companion dropped dead with a gurgle. It took a split-second before the other two died as well, both lying on the ground as corpses with heavy-bleeding slit throats.
Once she was done, Anna landed on the ground and calmed herself down breathing deeply, despite she was sprayed on and covered with their blood.
Then she slowly turned towards the child who was silent and was staring the whole time at Anna who killed her mother's killers.
Anna figured that it won't be long before the child would scream for help once she realized that she's alone with a monster.
But to her surprise and stunned shock, the little girl just cried, "Angel!" then the child ran over to the vampire and hugged her tightly with little arms around her legs.
The little girl didn't seem to be frightened of her at all, even with her messy with the blood, and Anna just stands there still, staring down at the child with a look of confusion and trepidation on her face.
Anna knew that she needed to leave right now seeing that the shouts from the men had attracted some attention when she heard with her sharp hearing that voices are approaching where they are.
She managed to dislodge the child from her legs and motioned her to go to a corner away from the corpses and stay there.
Just as she turned and was about to fly away, she heard the child crying for her not to go and let her come with her.
Anna would've ignored it and refused but she can still hear the little girl whimpering and crying behind her, begging pitifully like an abandoned kitten or a puppy.
It took for a long silent minute, and the child didn't seem to stop, so Anna sighed and muttered under her breath. "I know I'm going to regret this..."
She abruptly turned around and then picked up the little girl into her arms, startling her but the little girl who is named Abby that Anna will find out later was too happy that the 'angel' wasn't going to leave her alone and hugged her around the neck.
Anna sighed again as she spread out her wings wide and then leaps off the ground and flies off into the night sky, making Abby squeal out cutely with joy upon flying with her angel.
All that was left was the place are the four corpses lying there on the streets. One adult female and the three adult males.
END FLASHBACK
LINE BREAK
Anna believed that she didn't regret her choice back then even when she was afraid at first that Abby will soon leave her once she knows the truth of what she is when she grew up during those passing years.
But much to her surprise, Abby didn't care and just smiled at her, and stayed with her until the very end of however and whenever long their existence will be.
However, Anna drew the line on not turning Abby into a vampire-like her. Though she is lonely for more than hundreds of years, she will not condemn another human life, even a young child, into being changed into the monsters of darkness and blood.
Still, Anna smiled to herself that she didn't regret taking Abby in as her own and letting her companionship and sisterly love towards her sooth her loneliness after the long-time she had gone through back in her earlier years as a vampire.
Little did Anna know, it is that more of undead immortal life will change when in the future Abby will be befriending someone who will share that life with her and be life-long companions in whatever long human lifespan they have.
And that person in the future would be that boy Abby had met earlier when they moved here in this new neighborhood.
That person is Owen.
LINE BREAK
Owen went straight to his home and his only parent in the house, his mother looked up upon hearing him come in and announce aloud that he's home.
Owen's mother blinked upon noticing and seeing the happy look on her son's face.
"Well, well…something seems to make you happy, Owen," she teased him which made him blush a little upon being caught. "Care to tell me who the lucky 'girl' is?"
Owen sighed. "It's just a new girl who moved here, Mom. I don't know if she's going to my school or not. But I might be seeing her sometimes whenever or wherever I pass her by in the neighborhood."
"Nevertheless, I'm happy to see you like that. I've been getting worried about you Owen ever since I've seen you depressed almost always after coming home from your school." his mother said. "Are you sure there aren't any problems you need help dealing with over there?"
Owen flinched as he remembered that he always lied to his mother that he's just dealing with some hard subjects he's trying to succeed for his grades at school, when in reality the problems he's been dealing with are just the bullies who always picked on him ever since he started his school and was being his smart-self during all that time.
He didn't want to worry his mother that his super intelligence has made him an easy target to bullies who are the types that weren't into studying or didn't want any smart nerds being high and mighty over them.
He figured he could deal with it on his own as he has done and managed since then by evading and dodging out of their way whenever he caught the sight of his bullies coming to him. It had worked so far and he'll keep on doing it until he graduated.
Still, the bullies were relentless but Owen will manage to deal with it and make sure that his mother won't worry about it so much.
So once again he gave the same lying excuse to his mother. "Mom, it's fine. I can deal with it. You know me and my smarts!" he added the latter joking lightly.
His mom chuckled, "Yes, I do know you, my boy. Now go wash your hands, dinner will be ready soon."
"Okay, mom!"
He quickly went upstairs straight to his room before his mother would talk to him more about something else.
Owen sighed as he went inside his room and looked around forlornly as if trying to find something to cheer him up from his gloominess a bit.
When he didn't, he flopped himself on his bed and looked up the ceiling to think deeply in his thoughts.
He wondered whether it might come true or not, about the new girl he met earlier named Abby.
He hoped that she would go to his school so that his life would lighten up a little from his depressing moody life.
He didn't know that his hopes and wish will come true and he will be seeing Abby more in the future.
And that it will be something that he might live on in happiness…or in mystery and horror concerning about Abby's 'sister'.
