"Baby, what's wrong?" Bridget couldn't help but be distracted from the show they were watching. They'd just put Emily to bed, and had settled in, when the brunette checked her phone for the third time.
"I think I need to go check on things at the restaurant." Franky had tried to tell herself that she was overthinking things, but she knew she wouldn't be able to settle down until she went and saw for herself.
The security app on her phone was showing that only the front door, and the side doors to the patio area had been locked. The side door by her office, and the back door into the kitchen were still open. She knew that Boomer had left already since her friend had texted her earlier, and there was no reason for Shayne, or Jenna to still be there. She reasoned that maybe one of them was there doing some extra prep work, or trying out a new recipe, but something still seemed off.
"Why?" The blonde was hoping after she heard the younger woman's reason, she could talk her out of it.
"Some of the doors are still unlocked, and everyone should be gone by now." The brunette tossed the blanket she'd had covering her legs, to the side, and started to stand up.
"Why don't you just message Shayne, and Jenna, and ask if one of them is still there?" Bridget tried to suppress a grin when she saw the look on the other woman's face.
"Oh...yeah, I could try that first." Franky silently cursed herself for not thinking of that.
She sat back down, and typed out a short message to each of them, just asking if they were still there.
After five minutes, she'd heard nothing from either of them.
"I need to go check, Gidge." The brunette stood once more, and put her phone into her pocket.
"Baby, wait." The blonde reached up and took hold of Franky's arm. "I don't think you should go there alone. I mean, what if something is wrong?" Bridget didn't even want to think about it. The last thing she wanted was for Franky trying to be a hero, and getting hurt.
"I don't think anything is wrong. I just think that idiot forgot to lock the back doors when he left." The brunette knew that the front door, and the patio doors in the dining area would have been locked at closing time, but the side door, and kitchen door, didn't get locked until everyone had left for the night. She saw the concern on the blonde's face. "If I think anything is suspicious, I won't go in. I'll call the cops, okay?"
"Okay." The older woman gave a small nod, and let go of Franky's arm.
"I won't be long." The brunette leaned down, and gave Bridget a quick kiss before she headed for the door.
When Franky arrived at the restaurant, she did a quick scan of the street, and didn't see any cars. As she approached, she could see that the only lights that appeared to still be on were the ones in the kitchen. Either someone was still there working, or Shayne had forgotten to turn them off. She was assuming the latter.
She walked around to the side door, and opened it quietly. On the off chance that she was wrong, she didn't want to alert anyone that she was there. As soon as she stepped inside she could hear voices, or rather sounds, coming from the kitchen. The further she walked up the hallway, the clearer they became.
'Do you like that? Hmm? Do I feel good inside you?'
Franky's pulse picked up immediately. It was Shayne's voice. The reply that he got was a moan, and a whimper, from a voice that clearly belonged to a female, but the brunette couldn't tell anything beyond that. Her mind jumped to the worst: He was in there with Jenna, and that's why neither of them answered her message earlier.
There was a whisper from the woman that Franky wasn't able to make out. She caught Shayne's response though.
'You're close? Me too.'
She heard another moan from the woman, and felt her anger rise. Shayne had picked a pretty poor spot to do this. There were lots of tools in that kitchen for Franky to use to make good on her promise.
'I'm gonna cum.'
The brunette took one final step, and pushed the door open. The woman turned her head towards the door, as Shayne lowered his head, and let out a muffled grunt.
"Franky!" The woman's face turned beet red.
"Vera?!" Franky stood there for a second while her brain registered the scene in front of her. Vera was naked from the waist down, laying on her back on the stainless steel workspace in the centre of the kitchen, with Shayne standing between her legs, his pants around his ankles on the floor. He still hadn't lifted his head. The brunette turned, and stepped back outside the door to give them a minute to get their clothes back on.
After a couple of minutes, Shayne leaned on the door, and opened it just enough that he could make eye contact with Franky, before disappearing back inside. The brunette assumed this meant they were ready for her to come back in.
"Look, guys, I'm sorry. I was just coming to check on things, and I heard people in here." Franky shrugged. It was mostly the truth. She didn't want to tell him how she'd thought he was in there with Jenna.
"Why did you come back? You didn't trust me?' It had just struck him how she had said she was checking the place even though he was supposed to close up.
"My app said the side and back doors weren't locked yet, and it's pretty late." She saw the young man give her a puzzled look. "You know," she held up her phone, "the app for the security system."
"What?" Shayne was still confused.
"Come on. I told you about this. You were here the day the guys came and installed the sensors on the doors, and windows." She couldn't believe that he'd forgotten that.
"Are there, uh, cameras?" He looked up towards the corners of the ceiling.
"Oh god." Vera had been silent until now, leaning against the counter on the far wall.
"No. Just the sensors. I can tell if a door or window is locked or not, and I'll get an alert if the fire alarm goes off, or the power goes out." She sighed. She was sure she'd explained this all before.
"Why didn't you call me? You shouldn't be coming here alone at night to check it out anyway." His annoyance switched to concern.
"I did! Well, I texted you. I knew Booms had left so I messaged you, and Jenna to see if one of you was still here." She was careful not to say 'both of you'. "Neither of you answered, so here I am."
"Yeah, sorry, I guess I didn't hear my phone. We were otherwise engaged." He glanced back at Vera who lowered her head, and looked at the floor.
"That was like over a half hour ago." The comment was out of her mouth before she realized the backhanded insult.
"Hey, I'm young, I got more than one round in me!" He chuckled when he saw the look on Franky's face.
"Ew." The brunette wrinkled up her nose, and shook her head.
"Oh come on. It's not like I haven't had to listen to you and Bridget go at it for hours before. Ow." He rubbed his bicep where Franky had punched him. "Hey, listen, am I in trouble here? I didn't mean to make you have to come out or anything."
"No," Franky looked behind him, "just make sure you disinfect that counter well before you leave."
"Yeah, sure." If that was all the brunette had to say about the situation, he was more than happy to do what she asked. He turned to Vera. "You don't mind waiting a few extra minutes? It won't take me long, then we can go."
"I think maybe I'd just like to be alone tonight." She glanced up at him, and Franky.
"Oh, yeah, sure." Shayne watched her leave quickly through the back door of the kitchen. "Uh, do you mind waiting, then?" He looked sheepishly at the brunette, who just gave him a look. "Please, Franks. It's late, and you're going back there anyway. It won't take me long to clean."
"Fine, I'll be in the car out front. Don't forget to lock the doors." The brunette shook her head, as she left to make her way to her car.
"Was everything okay, baby? You were gone longer tha-'' Bridget stopped when she saw Shayne walk in behind Franky.
"Yep, all good. This one was doing some late night work, and didn't hear his phone." The brunette wouldn't embarrass him by telling Bridget the story in front of him.
"I'm going to shower, then go to bed." He wasn't tired, but he wanted to give Vera a call later before she went to sleep. He had a feeling that she wasn't happy with him, or that she was at least just embarrassed.
The blonde waited until she heard the water running in the shower before she spoke.
"So what really happened?" She asked as the brunette settled in beside her once more. She knew that Franky had been gone for way too long for it to have just been a simple case of Shayne working late, plus he rarely spent nights at their house anymore.
"So, I walk in, and I hear noises coming from the kitchen." Franky spoke in a quiet voice.
"Noises?" Bridget gave her a questioning look.
"You know. Noises." The brunette emphasized the word, and saw the other woman's eyes widen in understanding.
"It wasn't..?" She wanted to know, but at the same time, she didn't.
"No." Franky answered her unfinished question. "He and Vera were fucking on the counter."
Bridget's mouth dropped open.
"But I didn't know that he was with her," the younger woman paused, "until I walked in on them, like mid-orgasm. Well, for him anyway. I was ready to go in and make good on my threat, and then…" Franky shrugged, as she tried to contain a chuckle.
"Oh. My. God." The blonde was still in disbelief. "Vera must have been mortified."
"Oh yeah. I told him he had to sanitize the counter before he could leave, and she went home without him, so I had to wait, and drive him back here. Should be an interesting lunch for you and her tomorrow." The brunette nudged her playfully with her elbow.
"What am I supposed to do with this? Seriously. Do I pretend I don't know anything about it when she tells me?" Bridget looked at the younger woman for guidance.
"I don't know, babe." Franky shrugged. "She's been your best friend for years. You'll know what's best in the moment."
"Yeah." The blonde was not convinced. "Let's finish this show, then go to bed. It's a big day tomorrow." She looked over at the younger woman with a smile.
"Yeah, it is." The brunette knew exactly what Bridget was talking about. It would be two weeks after their last insemination procedure, and she'd be able to take a pregnancy test.
"How long have you been awake?" The blonde asked when she opened her eyes, and saw Franky staring up at the ceiling.
"Uh," the brunette picked up her phone to look at the time, "about an hour."
"You should have woken me." She stretched up, and placed a kiss on Franky's cheek, causing the younger woman to smile.
"You need your rest, too." The brunette loved that Bridget had been making sure, especially lately, that she didn't get too tired, but the blonde needed her own downtime as well. "You ready?"
"Ready if you are." The blonde gave Franky a quick smile, and watched as she got out of the bed, took a pregnancy test from the dresser drawer, and left to go to the bathroom.
Bridget closed her eyes, and silently prayed to whatever higher power was listening. After a moment, she heard the toilet flush, and then the water running in the sink.
The brunette quietly closed the bedroom door behind her so as not to wake the others. Good or bad, she wanted to have this moment with Bridget alone, and undisturbed. She placed the test on her bedside table, set the timer on her phone, and climbed back into bed.
"You alright?" The blonde asked, as she settled back in against Franky.
"Yeah, this wait just always kills me." She wondered why no one had come up with an instant one yet.
"I know, baby. Just close your eyes, and relax, and the time will go by before you know it." Bridget rubbed the younger woman's stomach while they waited. It was a gesture that always seemed to comfort her.
Franky took a deep breath, and tried to follow the blonde's advice. After a couple of minutes, she felt her phone vibrate, signalling that the time was up. She reached over, and picked up the test, keeping the results window covered with one hand, so that they could both look at it together.
"Ready?" The brunette asked, looking over at Bridget.
"Yep." She gave Franky's side a reassuring squeeze.
She moved her hand, and they both stared at the test.
"Babe?" The younger woman couldn't take her eyes off it.
"Mhm?" Bridget smiled.
"Do you see it?" Franky moved the test so that the blonde had a better view.
"I do. You're pregnant, baby!" She couldn't help the smile that filled her whole face now.
"I'm pregnant. I'm pregnant!" The brunette grabbed Bridget's face with both hands, and kissed her hard. When they broke apart, the tears were running down both of their cheeks. "We're going to have a baby. I have to call, and book a blood test to confirm it." She started searching the sheets for her phone.
"Hey," the blonde put her hand on Franky's cheek to get her to focus, "plenty of time to do that later. Let's just have this moment for a little longer."
"Okay, I'm sorry. I'm just so happy." The brunette knew that she was probably in a full-on ugly cry by this point.
"I know, me too." Bridget reached up, and tucked a strand of hair behind the other woman's ear. "You're going to be an amazing mom."
"So are you." Franky leaned in, and kissed her again before she rested her forehead against the blonde's. "I love you so much."
"I love you, too." Bridget knew it was going to be hard to tear herself away from the brunette today, but she'd eventually have to go to work, at least until whenever Franky would be able to schedule an appointment with Dr. Ryan.
As the blonde walked to Vera's office for their lunch together, she couldn't seem to get rid of the smile on her face. She knew that her friend had probably asked to eat there instead of the officer's lounge because she wanted to talk about what had happened at the restaurant the night before, and she didn't want her to think that her giddiness was in any way making light of the situation. While Bridget could certainly see the humour in it, she knew that Vera would be deeply embarrassed, and she had decided not to let on that she knew unless her friend specifically asked her.
When she arrived at the office door, Vera waved her in. Bridget gave her her quick, usual smile of greeting, and began to set out their food on the large round table.
"How's your day going?" The blonde internally cringed at her own question, but her friend hadn't said anything yet, and she wanted to break the tension in the room.
"Did Franky tell you?" Vera had promised herself she'd approach the topic in a non-awkward way, but as she sat and searched for how to go about that, it seemed that her mouth had gotten a mind of its own.
"Yeah, she did." Bridget could see her friend's face turn a deep shade of red. "It's nothing to be embarrassed about."
"Has anyone ever walked in on you?" Vera glared up at her, clearly not believing that it was nothing.
"Well, yeah, I mean, back in my uni days like at a house party or something." The blonde gave a small laugh, and shrugged it off.
"But was it someone you knew, and had to be around later?" In Vera's mind there was a big difference between some random, probably drunk person at a party, and your best friend's wife, who was also your friend, and your boyfriend's friend and boss.
"No." Bridget gave her a sympathetic look. "Em almost walked in on us once, but she didn't see anything."
"It was horrible. I thought…" The governor shrugged. "I don't know."
"You thought what? Come on, you can talk to me." Bridget reached out and gave her arm a small squeeze.
"The thing that happened with Jenna still bothers me. I'm not mad at him about it or anything." Vera sighed. She was having trouble putting her thoughts into words. "It's just that he said they used to hook up on set, and then she obviously thought that it could happen in the kitchen, and it made me think that maybe that's something he likes; something he misses, and wants." She stopped when she realized that she'd started rambling.
"You think he wants more excitement?" If that was the case, the blonde thought it was something that could be easily fixed.
"I don't know." Vera shook her head. "He hasn't said that."
"I think it's something you should ask him. If it's really bothering you, then that's the best way to deal with it. He's easy to talk to, right?" Bridget couldn't imagine that he wasn't.
"Yeah, he is." The governor smiled for the first time since her friend had gotten there.
"Good." The blonde gave her a warm smile, and opened up her lunch container, hoping that Vera would follow her lead. "You know, he seemed pretty upset when he came back with Franky. She said you left him there."
"Yeah." She pushed her food around with her fork. "Part of that was me just being embarrassed, and part of it was the way they were just carrying on and joking like it was nothing. He made some crack about being able to go more than one round and Franky kind of screwed up her face and then he said something about 'it's not like I haven't had to listen to you and Bridget go at it for hours before', and then she punched him in the arm, and they laughed, and it was all just one big joke. For me though, it wasn't. It took a lot for me to go there, and surprise him, and do that. I don't know. It just upset me."
"That's understandable." Bridget knew that her friend had really pushed her boundaries that night. "If it's still bothering you, I think you need to tell him what you just told me. He'll understand. I highly doubt he meant to make you feel bad about any part of what happened."
"I know he didn't. He called me later on, and tried to see how I was doing, and I just told him I was going to bed." Vera knew she'd handled it wrong, but at the time she couldn't help it.
"Just talk to him." The blonde gave her a reassuring smile, just as she felt her phone vibrate in her pocket. She reached for it. "Sorry."
From: Franky
I couldn't get an appointment for today, but I got one for the first thing tomorrow morning.
9am.
"Is everything okay?" Vera had caught the slight look of disappointment on Bridget's face.
"Yeah. Uh, is it alright if I come in a bit late tomorrow?" She hated asking Vera for another favor.
"Of course." The governor studied the blonde's face for a moment. "Are you sure everything is alright?"
"Yes." Bridget couldn't help the smile that appeared on her face this time.
"Okay." Vera gave her a questioning look, but let it drop, and went back to eating her lunch.
Franky was now waiting with Bridget in one of the examination rooms at the clinic. When they'd first arrived, one of the nurses had taken a blood sample from the brunette, and once the results were in, the doctor would join them.
"Why is it taking so long?" Franky had been going back and forth between being nervous, and excited, ever since she'd gotten the positive test.
"It's not, baby." The blonde reached over, and took her hand. "It just seems like it is because you're anxious. The nurse said it would be about a half hour before they had a result back. We just need to be patient."
"I'm trying, but I can't." The younger woman gave her an apologetic look. "I just want this baby."
"I know." Bridget gave her a small smile. "There's nine more months of waiting to come though."
"Yeah." Franky let out a long breath, as she felt the blonde squeeze her hand.
"Hey." When the brunette turned to look at her, Bridget put her other hand on her cheek, and pulled her in for a slow, soft kiss.
The blonde broke their kiss after a few seconds, and felt Franky lean in towards her, clearly not wanting it to end. She obliged, and connected their lips again.
"I'm usually the one who does that," Bridget said with a small grin after their kiss ended for a second time.
"Does what?" The younger woman was obviously oblivious as to what exactly she'd done.
"Follow you when you pull away," she said, softly.
"What can I say? It was a really nice kiss." Franky smiled at her, just as there was a gentle knock at the door. "Come in." The brunette settled back into her chair.
"Good to see you both." Dr. Ryan greeted them with a warm smile as she entered the room. "I understand you've had a positive home pregnancy test?"
"Yeah." The brunette couldn't help the wide smile that came across her face. "Yesterday morning."
"That's great! How have you been feeling physically?" The doctor knew they were anxious to hear the test results, but she had some questions she wanted to get through first.
"Good, but maybe a little more tired than usual lately." Franky knew it was more than a little, but she was doing okay.
"That's to be expected." She opened the folder she'd brought with her. "Your blood test was positive, and the number looks good for the stage you're at."
The brunette didn't know what to say. She could feel the tears in her eyes again, and she reached out to take a tissue from the box on the desk.
"Sorry, I'm just...I don't know, I guess I just needed to hear it from you that it's real." Franky smiled, and let out a small chuckle. She felt Bridget squeeze her hand.
"Trust me, it's real." The doctor gave her another smile. "Before I go any further, is there anything at all that's concerning you?"
"I don't think so." The brunette shook her head, and glanced over at her wife, who indicated that she didn't have any questions right now either. "I've been doing some reading online, but I know that's not always accurate, so I'll follow whatever advice you have for us."
"Good. I did bring some material that you can read through at home. They just talk about what you can expect, and some precautions to take." Dr. Ryan handed her a few pamphlets.
"Can we see it yet?" Franky was eager to see their child.
"Not yet, I'm afraid. You're coming to the end of your fourth week." She caught the slight look of confusion on both women's faces. "We count the first week of your pregnancy as the date of your last period," she explained. "You're two weeks post-insemination, but you're actually on week four of forty as far as the total pregnancy goes."
"So I've got a month in already?" This excited the brunette for a couple of reasons. The first was that this month had been relatively easy on her other than the fatigue, and the second was that she was already a month closer than she'd initially thought to having a child.
"You do indeed." The doctor was always amused when new mothers-to-be learned this fact. "During week four, you're not technically pregnant yet. We refer to the baby, at this point, as an embryo. At some point during week four or five, implantation will take place, where it attaches to the uterine wall. That's when you're officially considered to be pregnant. When that happens, there may be some light bleeding, or cramping. Some women experience that, and some don't. Either way is normal, and neither indicates that anything is wrong. If the bleeding, and cramping are severe, or if they worry you in any way, give us a call, or head to the emergency room."
"I haven't really had those yet." Franky glanced over at the blonde. She remembered that after the previous insemination, she'd thought she felt cramps, but not this time.
"That's fine. It may happen within the next few days, or you may not notice anything at all." She always tried to stress that this wasn't something that was for certain. "To answer your original question a bit more, though, we usually do an early ultrasound at six weeks, so the week after next. By that time, we'll be able to see the gestational sac, which becomes the placenta, and the embryo, and we'll be able to hear a heartbeat. We'll also be able to tell if there is more than one embryo."
"You mean twins?" Bridget spoke up for the first time. Having more than one baby at a time wasn't something that had really crossed her mind.
"It's always a possibility, so it's something we look for at that point. However, it's more common with IVF than with the IUI procedure that you chose." The doctor tried to reassure them after seeing the slight look of panic on the blonde's face. "We won't be able to determine the sex until a few weeks later, if that's something you're interested in knowing."
"We didn't really discuss that yet." The brunette looked over at Bridget who gave a small shrug, and nod.
"There's plenty of time. It's not something you have to decide right now." Dr. Ryan continued on with the last few things she had to tell them. "The way we'll monitor your pregnancy for the next couple of weeks is using the same blood test you had today. The hormone level should be doubling every couple of days or so. I'll need you to come back on Monday, and Thursday for the next two weeks, and that last Thursday we'll also do the ultrasound while you're here. You won't have to wait around like you did this time for just the blood tests; I'll call you with the result." She wrote the dates of the tests on an appointment card, and handed it to Franky. "In the meantime, keep taking the prenatal vitamins, and obviously you won't need to take the next round of the fertility hormones, and most importantly listen to your body. Rest if you're tired, make sure you're eating well, and staying hydrated."
"Don't worry, I'm sure Gidge will keep me in line." Franky gave a small chuckle.
"That last bit of advice applies to you as well." The doctor looked at the blonde. "Pregnancy can be an emotional, and stressful time for the partner, too. So make sure you're looking after yourself with as much care as you're giving Franky."
"I will." Bridget gave her a nod. She'd have no problem joining the brunette for some extra sleep.
"Alright, I'll be in touch with you about your test results over the next couple weeks, then we'll get that ultrasound done. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call us." She stood, and shook both of their hands, as she always did, before heading out the door.
"I'm so happy, Gidge." The brunette knew she'd have a smile on her face for the rest of the day.
"I know, baby. Me too." The blonde pulled her in for a quick kiss. "Are you heading back to the restaurant now?"
"Yeah," Franky glanced up at the clock, "there's only an hour before we open."
"Okay. Don't look too happy, or Shayne will know something is up." Bridget teased her.
"I'll try to be my usual bitchy self," the brunette said, with a small laugh. "Same goes for you with Vera, as well, yeah?"
"I know." The blonde sighed. "It'll be hard, but I'll manage."
"Good." Franky stood, and led the way out of the clinic.
When they got outside, they said goodbye, and headed their separate ways.
"You know, when the doctor suggested I get some extra rest, I don't think she meant I was supposed to have the same bedtime as a six year old." Franky crawled into the bed beside the blonde.
"Don't be dramatic," Bridget said with a small chuckle. "She's been in bed for an hour now."
The blonde placed a hand behind Franky's head, and pulled her in for a long kiss. It was slow, and sweet, and she could feel the younger woman moving against her thigh slightly. Bridget placed her free hand behind the brunette's knee, and encouraged her to hook her leg over her hip.
When their lips parted, Franky saw the knowing grin on the blonde's face.
"You're turned on, aren't you, babe?" Bridget's hand now rested against the side of the brunette's neck, and she could feel her increased heart rate under her thumb.
"It just felt really good." Franky honestly hadn't intended to start anything when she'd gotten into the bed, but the contact with the blonde's leg had felt nice.
"You didn't have to stop." Bridget nipped at the younger woman's bottom lip, and felt her move her hips again.
The blonde snaked a hand under Franky's t-shirt as she heard her breathing pick up. Bridget let her fingers run over the brunette's bare skin, tracing nonsense patterns. She could feel the muscles in the younger woman's back tighten, then relax, both as a result of her own movements, and Bridget's touch.
"Can I touch you?" The blonde thought the question may catch Franky off guard, but the brunette simply answered with a small moan, and stopped moving her hips, allowing Bridget to slip her hand into her pants.
After a year and a half, she knew she didn't need to ask permission for every little thing, but Franky's pregnancy was new territory for both of them. She knew now to be more gentle with the brunette's breasts, and Bridget wanted to make sure that she wasn't going to cause her wife any unintentional discomfort. The blonde immediately noticed how wet Franky was; it was already coating her clit.
Bridget placed her index, and middle fingers on either side of the bundle of nerves, and moved forward, then back, squeezing it between them gently along the way.
"Oh shit." Franky felt her thigh tremble. The contact through the layers of fabric had felt good, but having the blonde's hand directly on her now was almost overwhelming.
"You're close already, aren't you?" the older woman whispered next to the brunette's ear, then took her earlobe between her teeth, and tugged gently.
She got a small groan in response.
Bridget slowed her pace a bit, and concentrated on the brunette's neck. She knew that it was a sensitive area, and Franky had told her before that the little bites, and kisses there were one of her favorite things. The blonde knew she could have just easily pushed her over the edge, but as good as an orgasm feels, the build up right before was just as good, or maybe even better, and she wanted to stretch it out for Franky.
The brunette opened her eyes for a second, and took a deep breath. She was only able to hold on a few extra seconds before her orgasm ran through her. She held on tightly to Bridget even as her body began to calm.
"So I really am like a teenage boy." Franky laughed, making fun of herself, and the fact that it had taken very little time, or effort, to get her off.
The blonde just smiled, and shook her head, as she placed a final kiss on the younger woman's cheek.
"Doesn't matter, as long as we both are enjoying it," Bridget said as she brushed the backs of her fingers over Franky's cheeks.
"It's going to feel weird having sex once I can like feel the baby in there." The brunette didn't know why that thought had entered her mind, or why she'd decided to say it out loud.
"That's something that some couples find they have to work through, yeah," the blonde gave her a comforting smile, "but we'll figure it out."
"All day, I just thought about it." Franky was still holding her close.
"Having sex while you're pregnant?" Bridget teased her.
"No," the brunette wrinkled up her nose, "just the baby in general."
"It was on my mind a lot, too." The blonde had to admit that it had taken her some extra effort today to stay focused on the inmates during their sessions. She was glad that she hadn't met with Lana. The young inmate was perceptive, and Bridget knew she'd have sensed that something was up.
"What do you think about finding out the sex?" Franky had come up with her own ideas on the topic, but she wanted to know what the older woman thought.
"Honestly, I don't think it really matters to me either way whether we find out or not. I can see the pros and cons in either decision." The blonde truly meant it. She'd decided that she would let the younger woman make this choice.
"Yeah." The brunette had gone back and forth on it all day too. "On one hand, I kind of want to know just so we can pick out a name. That's the main reason for me. As far as like decorating the nursery, I wouldn't want to have everything pink, or everything blue anyway, so it doesn't matter for that. I think it might be weird when we're talking to it, or about it to say "it" or "the baby" instead of "he" or "she", but we'd probably get used to that, or make up a nickname for it. And even if we find out, they could be wrong."
"Oo, it sounds like you were thinking about it all day." Bridget knew that Franky's mind often worked constantly, but it was times like this when she realized just how busy it was in there.
"I don't think I want to know." The younger woman continued as if the other woman hadn't said anything. "I don't want to tell Em one thing, and then it be wrong. We could do a nice neutral nursery. Something like jungle animals, or under the sea."
"Baby." The blonde waited until she was sure that Franky was paying attention to her. "Let's not find out. For now. If we change our minds later on, we can always ask the doctor to tell us."
"Okay." Franky nodded. "We'll have to pick out names for both, then. I don't want to be those people whose kid doesn't have a name for like a month."
"We can pick two. That's not a problem." She gave the brunette a soft kiss. "But not tonight."
"I love you," the younger woman said as she held her closer.
"I love you, too." The blonde closed her eyes for a second as Franky nuzzled her cheek.
"One more thing." The brunette knew that Bridget was trying to get her to relax for the night, but there was something she needed to know they were on the same page with.
"Sure, baby." The blonde rubbed Franky's back while she waited for her to speak.
"We're not telling anyone until I'm further along, right?" The brunette knew there was a chance of miscarriage in the first trimester, and she didn't want to have to explain that to everyone if it happened.
"Right." Bridget gave a small nod.
"Not even Em." Franky saw her nod again. "But when we do start telling people, I want her to be the first."
"I think that's a good idea. She'll have a lot of questions, and we'll have a lot to explain, and I want her to feel like she can ask us whatever she wants, and have it be a private conversation." The blonde could see Emily's feelings being hurt as well if she found out that she was the last to know that she was getting a sibling.
"I'm still not sure how I'll handle the whole 'where did it come from' thing." The brunette really wasn't looking forward to talking about that part with the young girl.
"We'll get through it." Bridget tried to reassure her.
The older woman was lost in her memories for a moment, and she could feel a smile come across her face.
"What are you thinking about?" Franky asked, softly.
"Tim would have been so happy." Bridget smiled even more. "He'd always wanted kids, and he was so excited when they found out that Sarah was pregnant with Em. I think he called me the second they knew."
"We'll make sure this kid knows who he is." The brunette promised her.
"Absolutely." The blonde gave her another soft kiss, as she nuzzled in under her chin.
"I don't know if I'll be able to sleep." Franky's mind was still going at full speed.
"Just close your eyes, and try." Bridget felt the younger woman sigh as she rubbed her back. She knew this usually calmed Franky, and she was hoping it would work tonight. Otherwise, they were both in for a long day tomorrow.
