Ch. 4 Your Love is Hard and Fast
(CLARE)
"You okay? You were in there a long time," Drew says when I come out of the washroom. I had snuck in there to call Damon. I should have called him last night, he's a vampire he probably doesn't sleep. I didn't because I had questions, questions I didn't want answered in the middle of the night.
After Klaus left I couldn't get back to sleep. I know he had control of Adam or Adam would not have taken my bracelet. What did Klaus call it…compel, yes that's it. He compelled Adam, which to me just means he had control of Adam. He did have Adam give me the bracelet back, he said he didn't want to compel me. Then left me with a kiss, not just a kiss an incredible kiss! He might be a vampire, but he can kiss and set my entire body sizzling, my lips were still tingling from it. He left, and I sat awake the rest of the night. Adam had come back down shortly after Klaus left, he remembered what happened. Naturally, he was confused and he had a lot of questions. He wanted to know who Klaus was, I didn't know what to tell him. "Well Adam, Klaus is a vampire, and for whatever reason keeps coming to see me." I wanted to tell Adam, but I didn't want Adam to freak out. I was still attempting to wrap my mind around it all, how could I tell Adam?
I told Adam that Klaus and I had been together that night in October, but not since then. I couldn't answer Adam's questions about Klaus' age, how we knew each other, where he was from, really anything because I didn't know myself. We watched TV until the others woke up and started coming to the ground floor and the kitchen. I was distracted though, my mind racing with thoughts of Klaus, Damon, vampires and desperately trying to remember things from Klaus' first visit.
When the others started getting up Adam put on coffee, Bianca started making breakfast and I snuck off to the washroom to call Damon. It took me a while to actually dial, I was calling a vampire about another vampire, it seemed odd to put it mildly. Nevertheless, Damon had saved me, he gave me the bracelet and he did seem to want to protect me from Klaus. When I finally got the nerve to call it confirmed all that I had thought; Damon and Klaus were vampires, Damon had saved me by giving me his blood, Klaus drank too much of mine. I seemed to have one vampire admirer who didn't have limits or at least not always, and one vampire body guard or something like that. Try getting your mind around that on any day let alone after just an hour of sleep.
"Fine, just tired I didn't sleep very much," I smile at Drew.
"Yeah, Adam told us that guy…Klaus, was here last night. He did that mind control thing on him, like he did on Owen. Did he hurt you?" Drew asks.
"No, he kissed me and then he left."
"The guy sounds like a creep to me, he can hypnotize people and he's done it twice now. He hypnotized Adam into letting him in last night. The guys say he's older too," Bianca remarks.
"Klaus is weird, he forced me to bring Clare to him and I had to do what he said," Owen comments.
"Yeah, and what about this other guy, the one that called you after Halloween?" Drew inquires.
Damon called while I was in the student council office with Drew and Adam, the morning after the Halloween dance. They heard me say his name, and figured out he was worried about Klaus. I didn't know what to tell them then, and I really don't know what to tell them now.
"He knows Klaus, Damon says Klaus is dangerous and I should call Damon if Klaus comes back."
"Did you call him?" Owen questions.
"Yes."
"You want to stay the night again?" Adam offers.
"No, your parents come back tonight, and I don't want to try and explain it to them."
"Yeah, but your parents are out of town until after New Year's. Your mom and Glen, and your Dad and Elaine. You'll be alone, and Klaus is still out there somewhere," Drew comments.
"So, there won't be anyone for Klaus to hypnotize to let him in."
"What if he does it to you?" Owen asks.
"He promised he wouldn't," I reply. I don't tell them that the bracelet I wear keeps him from being able to. I can explain that about as much as I can explain Klaus is a vampire.
"That doesn't mean he won't. I don't think you should be alone," Adam says. His tone is a little pleading.
"I'll be okay Adam; you and Drew are a few minutes away and Owen is close. If something happens I'll call right away, I promise."
They don't seem very satisfied with this answer, but at least the subject is dropped. We eat breakfast and when Owen decides to go home I ask him for a ride. Adam reminds me to call if anything happens, I promise I will and leave with Owen. He takes me home, gets out of the car checking around the house for signs of a break-in or someone waiting in the shadows. I'm thankful that he does, but I also know that if Klaus is here Owen won't be able to find him. When Owen is satisfied he tells me to call if anything happens. I tell him I will, thank him for the ride and wave to him as he gets back in his car and drives off.
"May I come in?" Klaus whispers in my ear just as I'm sliding the key into the lock.
"How long have you been here?" I question.
"Not long, I left a gift for you in the backyard."
I open the door, go in and walk to the living room so I can look at the backyard. There's a large Christmas tree, it looks almost like he planted it, but it's fully decorated. It's lovely, the best one we've ever had, only it's outside.
"Why did you put it outside?" I question expecting him to be right behind me. I presumed he'd have followed me inside.
"I couldn't get in," he says coming to the sliding glass door at the back.
"Then, it's true that vampires must be invited into your home?"
"It is?"
"And if I don't invite you in?"
"I can't enter."
"Why should I invite you then? I know very little about you, other than you're a vampire and you tried to kill me once," I remark. "And when you kiss me my body quivers. And I remember making love to you which brought me to incredibly rapturous orgasms," runs through my mind.
"I didn't try to kill you Clare, had I wished to kill you then you would be dead. Vampires are apex predators. That day Damon came and ruined our fun I wanted one last taste and lost control, your blood is…intoxicating," Klaus replies licking his lips.
"What's to stop you from drinking my blood if I let you in?"
"I give you my word I'll be good, I simply want to talk," he replies flashing a sincere and fangless smile.
I bite my lip, rolling it between my teeth as I consider this decision. I still don't trust him, and my mind tells me no. Diversely, my body wants him close, sense memory brought on by his scent makes me yearn for him.
"Please come in."
His lips curl as a grin stretches them thin and across his face. I step aside, and he steps inside. Making himself right at home he sits in Glen's armchair while I close the sliding glass door.
"Your house is dark and lonely, you do have parents I assume?" Klaus asks. My chest tightens and I bite back the emotions I'm feeling both from his comment and the way he says it.
"Yes, my mom and stepdad are visiting my stepbrother in the states for the holidays. My dad, his girlfriend and her children went to her parent's house for the holidays, I was supposed to be with them for Christmas, my dad thought it best I not go with them, not that I wanted to."
"Doesn't sound like your family is very loyal or caring, any of them," Klaus remarks. He puts one leg up and across the other, brings his hands together and tents his fingers.
"You know nothing about my family, and just what are you doing here? Why do you keep coming back?"
"Well, I…" Klaus begins, but is interrupted by the doorbell.
"Stay there," I command him. I walk to the door and see five people waiting, at the lead is Damon. I am sure I can trust him, so I open the door. "Please come in," I invite all of them not knowing how many are vampires.
"Clare, this is Alaric," Damon tells me as the slightly older man with a very kind face comes in.
"Please call me Ric," he says as he steps in, but he stays in the foyer and cannot see Klaus yet.
"This is Jeremy," Damon tells me. Jeremy nods to me and steps in standing by Alaric.
"And this is my brother Stefan and his girlfriend Elena," Damon introduces me. Damon looks nothing like his brother, Elena on the other hand looks incredibly familiar.
"Your name is Elena?" I ask her as she comes in with Stefan. Damon follows them all in and closes the door.
"Yes, Elena Gilbert I'm Jeremy's sister."
"You look just like a girl I used to know named Mia Jones."
"Oh great, there's another doppelganger out there somewhere," Jeremy remarks while rolling his eyes. "Stefan, Klaus is here," Jeremy says after taking a couple steps into the living room. Before I can say anything Stefan and Damon zoom into the living room. They run so fast it makes a gust of wind even though they only run a few feet.
"What are you doing here Klaus? I told you to stay away," Damon growls.
"You think you can tell me what to do or who to stay away from Salvatore."
"Go back to Mystic Falls and leave Clare alone," Damon roars pulling Klaus out of the chair.
"I will not," Klaus snarls as he pushes Damon into the wall so hard it shakes. The impact sends a few of the pictures on that wall crashing to the floor. Stefan instantly gets in front of Elena, to protect her from any flying glass I believe. Alaric pulls Jeremy back a bit, but thankfully no shards of glass go flying. The two vampires are still fighting, Damon grabs Klaus shoving him away, he knocks into the dining room table pushing it back at least a foot.
"STOP!" Elena and I yell together. It works, they both cease fighting and look at us.
"I apologize Clare, I'll replace the broken frames," Klaus says as Damon picks them up. "I came to see Clare, and I'm not leaving today. I'm staying with Clare, she's been left alone for the holidays," Klaus tells them. His tone sounds guileless, yet none of the others look like they trust him.
"Did your family really leave you for the holidays?" Elena questions.
"Yes, my mom and stepdad went to visit my stepbrother in the states. I live with them and that was planned because I was going to spend the holidays with my dad. Even though I wasn't thrilled about meeting his girlfriend. However, a couple days ago, and after my mom and stepdad had already left, my father called. He told me that he, Elaine and her kids were going to her parent's in Broad Valley, Manitoba for the holidays, so I'm left on my own," I tell them, and my words are laced with bitterness.
"That's so sad," Elena says.
"As I said, I'm not going back today, and I think the rest of you should go back to Mystic Falls," Klaus remarks.
"We just drove all the way here, I am not getting back in the car to drive all the way back today," Jeremy comments.
"You can all stay the night here and go back tomorrow. Elena and Stefan, you can take my parent's room. Jeremy you can take Jake's room."
"I'll sleep in your room," Klaus and Damon say at the same time.
"You can both sleep in my room, and I'll sleep on the sofa," I reply.
"No, you should sleep in your own bed," Damon remarks.
"Yes, you should sleep in your own bed. I'll take Jake's bed and Jeremy can sleep on the floor," Klaus grins.
"Fine, Damon you'll take the sofa then?" I ask and he nods. "Do vampires sleep?" I question the room.
"We do," Stefan nods. I have a feeling Stefan is a man of few words.
"Okay, I'm going to make some lunch. Anyone else hungry?" I question.
"Are you on the menu?" Klaus inquires gliding over to me. Before he reaches me Damon is between us.
"No, she's not," Damon says in a dominating voice.
"Any humans hungry?" I question again.
"Yeah, starving," Jeremy nods.
"Klaus, we have blood packs in the car," Stefan speaks up.
While the vampires go out to the car I begin pulling sandwich ingredients out of the fridge. Thankfully, the vampires bring in the blood and eat in the other room where we can't see them. Us humans make sandwiches and sit at the table; the vampires seem to finish their blood quickly and come back to the living room. I ask Damon and Stefan if they're really brothers, because I've never heard of vampire brothers. They tell me they are brothers by blood and tell me how they were both turned, so I also learn about Katherine. After lunch Damon and Alaric tell me a little about Elena being Katherine's doppelganger. It's a lot to take in, and all at once, and I'm still kind of reeling from the fact that vampires are real, I've been with one, had one's blood, and well reeling from everything really. A part of me feels like this is all a dream, that I'll wake up any minute on the sofa in Adam's living room.
"Let me show you where you'll be sleeping, do you have bags?" I ask to change the subject, if they have more to tell me I don't think I can handle it today.
"Yeah, still in the car," Elena nods.
"We'll get them," Stefan replies as he and Damon go outside.
"You alright?" Elena asks.
"It's a lot to take in, still trying to get my head around some things," I reply.
"I know the feeling," Jeremy remarks. I notice him give Elena a look as he says it, and she in turn looks a little guilty. Elena looks away, before anyone can say anything Damon and Stefan return with the bags.
"You can put those upstairs," I comment showing them the way.
"Stefan and Elena this is my parent's room, you'll be in here. It has it's own washroom, do vampires go…never mind I don't want to know. Jeremy, I guess you'll be in here with Klaus. There's an air mattress in the garage we can bring in," I tell them as I open the door to Jake's room.
"This must be your room," Klaus grins opening the door to my room.
"You stay out of there," Damon barks grabbing Klaus by the shirt and shoving him to the wall.
"Stay off of me Salvatore," Klaus snarls pushing Damon away and he knocks into the opposite wall. Nearly all of the walls in this house have now been knocked into by a vampire.
"Both of you stop it," Alaric says. Klaus looks at Alaric like he might rip his head off, but they do stop.
"Yes, that's my room, and I'll be sleeping in it alone. I'd offer to show you around Toronto, but I don't think taking three vampires around is a good idea."
"I've seen Toronto," Klaus replies.
"So, have I," Damon says.
"Lexi and I came through here," Stefan remarks.
"Well, I haven't seen Toronto," Jeremy speaks up.
I turn to Jeremy, but before I can say anything my phone rings. It's downstairs and I take a step to retrieve it, however before I even reach the stairs Klaus runs down the stairs and returns with my phone.
"It's Adam," Klaus informs me before giving me the phone.
"Thanks," I reply taking my phone. "Hi Adam."
"Hey, are you okay? Mom said you could sleep here again and come with us to my grandparents for Christmas," Adam tells me.
"Thanks Adam, and tell your mom thanks, but I'm okay. I have company tonight and I don't want to crash your visit with your grandparents."
"You wouldn't be, and Bianca is coming. What company do you have?"
"Yes, but Bianca is engaged to Drew she's practically family."
"You're practically family too, it wouldn't be crashing anything. And you never answered my question about what company you had."
"Some…friends. Out of town friends. I'll be okay Adam, really. I appreciate the invitation, but I'd feel awkward at your family Christmas. I'll be alright, and I'll see you when you return."
"Okay," he sighs. "I'll call you tomorrow."
"You sure you didn't want to go with your friend?" Stefan questions.
"No, I don't know his grandparents and I'd feel out of place. I might be alone this Christmas, but I won't feel out of place. Anyway, it's the first time their family is meeting Drew's fiancé, I don't want to be in the way of that. And I'd feel like I was imposing no matter what they said. So, I'm alone at Christmas, it's just a stupid holiday."
(DAMON)
I was lying on the sofa in Clare's living room, out of boredom I'd already looked at everything down here. Every photo, every photo album, every book and every knick-knack. When I hear a door open upstairs and then a second door I run upstairs. I grab Klaus by the arm just before he goes into Clare's room.
"You didn't really think you'd sneak past me Klaus?"
"I was merely checking on her," Klaus smiles.
He closes the door quietly and I watch him until he goes back into the other bedroom. I return downstairs, lying down on the sofa again. I'm almost asleep when I hear noises again, someone trying to be very quiet, but not succeeding, at least not to vampire ears. I hear the person coming down the stairs, I lie motionless on the sofa and watch as Clare tiptoes through the living room and goes out to the garage. I follow her, going through the door before it closes. She turns on the light, gasping when she sees me, and letting out a relieved breath when she knows it's me.
"Don't do that!" She scolds me with a scowl on her face.
"Sorry, what are you doing out here? Is Klaus bothering you again?"
"No, after you stopped him from coming into my room he stayed in Jake's. Thanks for that by the way. I heard Klaus and Jeremy talking, and I just couldn't sleep. I worried that if I was awake in my room Klaus would hear and come in. So, I came down here, it's too cold to go outside."
"Seems like it would be cold in the garage too. You're covered in gooseflesh," I remark rubbing her arm lightly. "And I guarantee Klaus heard you come down here, he's being remarkably obedient by not coming down here. So, why can't you sleep?"
She gives me an incredulous look by arching an eyebrow and twisting her mouth. "Well, I just made the revelation that vampires are real, and I already knew that, but the memory was taken," she says her voice drips with sarcasm. I feel a little bad when she glares at me for taking her memory. "I've been with a vampire intimately, and he fed off me. Now he keeps coming back so, I seem to have a vampire admirer. If that wasn't enough, I have a vampire bodyguard that saved my life by feeding me his blood! It's a lot to take in and my mind is just a bit too preoccupied to sleep!"
"I compelled you to forget about vampires because I thought it was best after what Klaus did that night."
"I know," she says sitting on the hood of the car in here, "and I'm glad you did. If Klaus had never returned I probably could have lived the rest of my life with a memory of a couple of mysterious strangers and one night of amazing sex. The bracelet you gave me, it keeps me from being compelled?" She asks twirling it on her wrist, then looks at me biting her lip.
"Yes, it's filled with vervaine, it's toxic to vampires and keeps anyone that wears it or ingests it from being compelled."
"You can ingest it?"
"Yeah, in tea or coffee usually because it hides the taste."
"Compelling someone, it takes away their memory or controls them?"
"Yeah, essentially. It requires direct eye contact, it can be blocked or resisted with vervaine. A strong vampire can compel another vampire. We can take or replace memories, control people for a short time."
"Anything else I should know about vampires, since you seemed to be entwined in my life now?"
"Lots, you can ask me anything," I tell her.
"I already know vampires need to be invited in. What about daylight? Myth says sun will burn you, but every vampire I've seen is out in the daytime with no effect."
"It's the ring," I reply holding up my hand.
"So, jewelry can keep me from being compelled and keep you from being incinerated by the sun?" She inquires with a doubtful tone.
"Special jewelry can, yes." I don't tell her that the ring has been spelled by a witch because I'm not sure she can handle the fact that there's real witches right now.
"I'm guessing a stake through the heart would still kill you, since that would kill anything."
I nod.
"Same for beheading and fire."
I nod again.
"Most of the myth is real then?"
"Yes, they got some things right others were perpetrated by vampires as diversion."
"Do you know why Klaus keeps coming back to me?"
"No, it's strange and I don't know what it is about you that keeps drawing him back. He says your fanfiction was what first drew him to you, but why he won't leave you alone now I don't know."
"You mean you have no idea what he could possibly see in a plain mortal high school girl?" She huffs crossing her arms.
"I didn't mean it that way. You are not plain you are very attractive, what he read from your fanfiction first lured him to you. When he saw your picture I think that was all he needed. It's very Klaus-like for him to come on a whim to make you his lover. What worries me is why he won't leave you alone."
"That worries me too," Clare says biting her lip. She looks down and then looks back at me, "And you? Why do you care so much?"
"I don't trust Klaus, I don't trust his intentions. I don't want him to hurt you, more than he has. And now you've had my blood, we're tied, even my blood is no longer in your s…"
My words are cut off when Clare puts her hand on my shoulder and smashes her lips to mine in a fiery kiss. When she touched my shoulder I knew she was going to kiss me, I could have stopped her easily. I'm stronger than her, I'm faster than her, I could have pulled away and been in the house before she could blink. I didn't want to though, I wanted to kiss her. I part my lips, put my arm around her lower back, lean her back against the hood of the car as my tongue moves between her softly parted lips.
My tongue caresses, strokes, and toys with hers while I easily get her pajama top off. Even while kissing her I watch her plump, supple breasts bounce free. My hands envelope her breasts, I tweak her nipples gently evoking a moan from her into the kiss. While I massage and play with her lovely breasts she starts opening my jeans, she's slow and clumsy as humans are. I pull out of the kiss, get naked and take her lips with mine again before she can even take a breath. Her pajama bottoms are the next to go, I toss them somewhere and open her legs.
She's wet, she's tight and I force myself to go slow. She makes a wonderfully wanting moan as she takes me in. Once I have her open and so soaking wet that I can thrust in and out easily I turn us. I'm sitting on the hood of the car and she's on me, holding her waist I help her move along my length. Her hands brace on my chest, her nails scratching at my flesh, but the wounds heal almost immediately and she scratches again. I don't think she's even aware she's doing it, she's just lost in the overwhelming orgasmic euphoric ecstasy of our fervid fucking.
When I know she's about to scream out in climax I sit up and seal my lips to hers. With the breath she takes in I'm pretty sure her climatic scream would wake even the humans in the house. Instead her sounds of rapturous relief are released into my mouth, and I suck them in. I turn us yet again, she's on her back once more, keeping my lips on hers, thrusting as hard and as fast as I think I can without hurting her. She climaxes again, but this time I release at the same time, deepening the kiss as it takes in both our orgiastic exhales. I slow down until we ride out our orgasms. I pull out and get dressed before she's able to take a deep breath.
"You vampires are masters at lovemaking," Clare pants. She begins to sit up and makes a noise, she must be sore.
"When you have over a century to work on your technique you become a master I suppose. You certainly learn a lot," I reply with a grin as I run around the garage gathering her clothes and hand them to her. "I think you should return with us to Mystic Falls in the morning. Spend the holiday with all of us," I tell her as she begins getting dressed. "Well, maybe not all of us."
She stops getting dressed and looks at me, "Spend Christmas in Mystic Falls with people I barely know?"
"You wouldn't be imposing on anyone, Stefan and I don't do much and it's better than spending Christmas alone isn't it? And that way I would know you were safe."
Update soon, picking up from right here and Clare's answer. Next story to go up is the premier of The Way She Smiles When She Sees Me.
