For the next couple of days, things didn't seem to change with Fuu. Whenever Ferio tried to talk to her, she would slip out of the house very early for work in the morning and come back very late from work at night. Then she would say she was too tired to talk so she would go to bed very early. It was really starting to worry Ferio that he wondered what he did wrong. He didn't think things went too bad the first day he got there but ever since then it had all gone downhill. It was Friday and Ferio couldn't seem to sleep at all. He was now sitting on the edge of his bed.
'Maybe she really is with someone else, but she doesn't want to hurt me!' He yelled in his head, he then grabbed his hair and fell backward onto the bed. He felt tears threatening to fall.
'I have to find out, even if it's bad. I can't keep going on like this.' Ferio got up from the bed and quietly went out of the room and into the living room to sit on the couch. He was determined to catch Fuu before she left. Fuu got up and rubbed her eyes. She didn't sleep very well, but she got up and got ready for work as usual. When she came out of her room she sighed. She looked over to Ferio's room.
'I've been really horrible to him lately, but I just don't know how to talk to him. I don't know how to talk to him about how I feel. Why do I have such a hard time when it comes to my heart.' She turned her head back around and lowered her eyes as she headed for the front door. She didn't notice Ferio sitting on the couch as she grabbed her bag and coat. She headed for the front door and slipped into her shoes. As she reached for the doorknob Ferio stood up from the couch and went to stand behind her.
"Fuu wait." Fuu jumped at his voice but didn't turn around to look at him.
"Please talk to me Fuu, I can't handle this silence between us, it's driving me crazy." Ferio's voice sounded both sad and desperate. It hurt Fuu's heart to hear him sound like that, she slowly turned around and looked at him. She tried looking at him in the eyes, but couldn't seem to hold his gaze because it hurt too much. She looked towards the ground.
"Ferio I really need to get going." Fuu felt like the worse person in the world, Ferio was one of the last people she wanted to hurt. Fuu turned around once more and moved towards the door but Ferio grabbed her arm before she could grab the doorknob.
"Fuu if you won't talk to me now please say you'll talk to me after you get back. Even if you tell me you want me to leave. Anything is better than you not talking to me." After hearing what he said Fuu pulled her arm out of his grasp and turned back around to face him once more.
"I don't want you to leave! What makes you think that?!"
"What am I supposed to think when you've been avoiding me for days." Ferio said his voice a bit higher. Fuu felt instantly guilty.
"Ferio I...I don't want you to go, I'm just confused." Fuu said in a low voice. Ferio moved towards her but Fuu quickly turned back around.
"I need to go." Fuu didn't make any move to reach for the doorknob.
"Before you go will you at least promise me we'll talk when you get back?"
"I promise." Fuu's said in a low voice. Then she opened the front door and left. Ferio stood there while lowering his head. The time after Fuu left seemed to move very slowly. He didn't feel like doing anything, he didn't even feel like eating. Hikaru called at some point in the day to see if he wanted to hang out again, but he told her he wasn't feeling up to it and that she and Lantis should go do something together just the two of them. Hikaru was worried about him so she texted Fuu about it but didn't get an answer from her right away. When Fuu did eventually answer, all she said was that he was probably just tired and not to worry that she was going to see him after work. Hikaru was still worried but figured they just needed some time together. Once Fuu was done with work she seemed to be going in slow motion and it took her a lot longer to get home. When she did eventually get there she just stood in front of the door staring at it.
'I need to stop this. This isn't right I need to talk to him.' That's when Fuu unlocked the door and went in. She shut the door behind herself and took her shoes off. She noticed right away that Ferio was on the couch. He didn't move or try to get up, he only gave her a small smile. Fuu went and put her bag and coat away. She took a deep breath and walked into the living room and sat on the couch a few feet away from Ferio. Neither one of them spoke. Ferio looked towards her and opened his mouth as if to speak, but he couldn't think what to say. Fuu sighed.
"Ferio...I'm sorry." Fuu said, looking straight ahead. Ferio didn't take his eyes off her. He wondered what she meant by her sorry. He pushed away as many unpleasant thoughts as he could. Fuu breathed in and spoke again.
"I'm sorry for avoiding you these last couple of days. It wasn't right of me." Fuu said with regret in her voice. Ferio's eye's softened.
"Why have you been avoiding me? Did I do something to upset you? If you have someone else in your life now all you need to do is tell me." This finally made Fuu look at him and her eyes were wide in shock.
"NO!" Fuu said much louder than she intended. "No, I'm not with anyone." She said much quieter this time. This put Ferio at ease a bit.
"Then tell me what's going on with you?" Fuu got up from the couch and moved a few feet away, just standing there, her back towards him. Ferio stood up as well.
"I'm scared, Ferio," Fuu said trying to hold back tears.
"Why are you scared, Fuu?" He said in a gentle voice.
"I'm scared to get too close to you, to feel for you because if I do it just means you'll be gone again, I don't know if I can handle not seeing you for who knows how long this time." Fuu finally said it. Tears fell down her cheeks.
"Fuu." The way Ferio said her name made Fuu's heart tighten. Ferio moved closer to her and put his hands on her shoulders, gently turning her around. He placed his right hand on her cheek and wiped some of the tears away with his thumb. They looked into each other's eyes. This was the first time that Fuu noticed the bags under Ferio's eyes and that his skin was a bit pale. Guilt once again hit her making even more tears fall from her eyes.
"I'm so sorry, Ferio." That's when she threw her arms around him and hugged him tightly. Ferio didn't hesitate to hug her back.
"Shh, Fuu, don't be sorry you have every right to feel that way." She tightened her hold on him even more.
"How can you be so forgiving when I've been so horrible to you?" Fuu said, her voice shakey.
"Because I love you, Fuu." That's when Fuu pulled away and looked at him. "I never stopped loving you." Without realizing both their faces started slowly getting closer.
"No matter how much I tried, I couldn't get over you. You still have a hold on my heart even after all this time," said Fuu. Ferio smiled softly at hearing that.
"I love you, Ferio." Fuu could feel Ferio's breath on her face, he was so close. Before their lips meet Ferio spoke.
"You hold my heart too, Fuu." That's when their lips both met. The kiss was tender and full of their love and longing for one another. It was more wonderful than both had imagined. They pulled apart but were soon back to each other's lips and now had their arms around each other, deepening the kiss. Moments later they pulled apart and headed back to the couch. They sat down and Ferio pulled Fuu into his chest and held her. She put her legs on the couch and snuggled into him.
'Why did I wait so long to do this?' She smiled. Ferio kissed the top of her head.
"Fuu, you know you can tell me anything. I'll listen to anything you have to say. You don't have to be afraid" Fuu nodded into his chest.
"When it comes to my heart, Ferio, I'm so very weak." Ferio rubbed her arm.
"When you got here I thought I was dreaming that I would wake up and you would be gone, but it wasn't a dream, you were really here and I was so happy. But I started thinking that you'd be gone and I wouldn't be able to see you again and that scared me because it was so hard before. I just didn't know if I could go through that all over again, so without realizing it I started pushing you away." Fuu looked up at him. Ferio kissed her forehead.
"I was scared too Fuu, scared that you had found someone else and that you just didn't know how to tell me." Fuu pulled away slightly to look at him better.
"Is that why you said that you hoped being here isn't going to end up being a burden for me?" Ferio nodded.
"I had a nightmare about it too, it feels kind of silly now." Fuu shook her head.
"I don't blame you for feeling that way, especially after the way I acted towards you." Fuu put her head back on his chest. "We sure are a hopeless pair," said Fuu. Ferio laughed.
"We sure are." It then became silent but it wasn't awkward. Ferio suddenly remembered one more thing he needed to tell her.
"There's something else I need to tell you." Ferio let out a breath and then continued. "The council wants me to get married." Fuu's eyes went wide but she didn't move her head.
"Really?" That was all Fuu could think to say.
"Yes, but I was very much against it. The head of the council was so persistent that he made a bet with me. If you had moved on I would have to marry someone of their choosing." This made Fuu shoot up, making Ferio's arm fall from her shoulder. She sat up on her knees and looked at him with a bit of sadness in her eyes.
"Is that the only reason why you're here?"
"No! I would have come to see you no matter what, even without that stupid bet." Ferio lowered his head. Fuu got close to him and turned his head to look at her. " I don't want to be with anyone but you Fuu even if in the end we can't be together. I know that sounds selfish but I can't help feeling that way." Fuu took her hand away from his face.
"I feel the same. I tried seeing other men, I tried with all my might to move on but I just couldn't. So even if this will be the last time we get to see each other I'm ready to give you my heart for good. It doesn't belong to anyone else but you." Fuu then kissed him on the cheek and hugged him while putting her head back onto his chest.
"I'm so glad your here Ferio." Ferio hugged her back with both arms.
"I'm glad to be here holding you like this."
"I love you, Ferio." She smiled.
"I love you too, Fuu." He kissed the top of her head.
"I'm not working tomorrow so let's go out and get you some clothes."
"Heh, okay sounds good. Oh, you might want to get me footwear too." Ferio chuckled.
"Hm, alright." Fuu laughed lightly. It wasn't too much longer before both fell into a much-needed sleep in each other's arms.
