Trafalgar Law
Law rushed out of the sub and looked around frantically. "Sayu?! Sayu?!"
The pirates that were gathered on the Going Merry heard his calls and came running.
"Captain, what's wrong?!" Shachi ran over to his Captain. No one had ever seen Law lose his composure like he is right now. This is so out of character for their usually calm, cool, and collected Captain.
"She's gone!" Law shouted to his crew.
"Sayu-chan is missing?!" Yuki ran into the sub with his brother following, intent on looking for their first mate.
"What do you mean she's gone?!" Sanji glared at Law with a pissed off look. "You had her caged in that ship, no wonder she ran off! Luffy told us how you locked her up!"
"You locked up the little soldier?! Captain-san, how could you do that to her?!" Haken glared at the Law. "That's my sister!"
"Oh get off your fucking high horse, Haken! This isn't the time for your stupid attachment issues to her! Sayu isn't one to run away anyway!" Ryu had used Sayu's name so everyone else could tell how serious the situation was. "What happened, Captain?"
Law ran a hand through his hair trying to calm his nerves. "We were apologizing after the fight...I gave her that stupid necklace that the old crony bitch gave me and-" Law paused and thought back to that strange old woman. "The necklace...that crystal...I shouldn't have trusted that old woman!" Law ran back into the sub and into the chill room with everyone else following.
Yuki and Yuri were already inside and Yuri had the crystal in his hand. "Captain, was this Sayu's?"
Law snatched the crystal. Why didn't it disappear with her? He clenched it in his fist and turned back to his crew and the Straw Hats. "This is the necklace that the old woman gave me...I gave it to Sayu and then...she disappeared."
"People don't just disappear, Captain..." Penguin said sadly while looking at the crystal.
"Do you think I'm making this shit up? She disappeared right in front of my fucking eyes, Penguin!" Law tossed the crystal towards the ground and it rolled to a stop in front of everyone.
Robin stepped up and picked up the crystal. Looking it over she hummed. "It seems that we'll have to find the woman that gave you this. She may know where your first mate has gone to."
Luffy punched his fist together. "Yosh! We'll help you find Sa-chan, Torao!"
Haken took the crystal from Robin and examined it himself. "...I've never seen a crystal like this before...what is it exactly, Captain-san?"
"Mr. Haken, analyze that for me." Law ordered his scientist and Haken nodded with a determined look.
"For now, we should probably head back to town and see if we can find this woman you talked about." Nami suggested. "Robin is the smartest among our crew. She can help Haken with identifying that crystal."
"You heard her Robin!" Luffy nodded towards his archaeologist and she smiled.
"Of course I will offer my assistance, Luffy." Robin and Haken both left to go to his lab and start working.
"Bepo, can you smell Sayu anywhere around us?" Law asked his navigator.
Bepo shook his head sadly. "Her scent ends in this room, Captain. No trail or anything that I can smell."
Law gritted his teeth in frustration. "The woman was about in her eighties I can guess, about Straw Hat's height, gray hair in a bun, with a scar running down her left eye towards her chin. When I got the crystal from her...it was like she also just disappeared."
"So we don't have much to go..." Chopper said with a sad face.
None of the Straw Hats had know Sayu besides Sanji, but from what they could tell, she was a kind girl. They weren't just about to abandon someone who needed help.
Law grabbed his nodachi from over the wall and turned to his crew and the Straw Hats. "We'll split up, until we either find Sayu or that crony bitch. We'll meet back at the ships at night. Agreed?"
"Right!"
Trinity Sayu
Sayu groggily woke up from her forced induced sleep. She looked around, hoping that everything was back to normal...it wasn't.
"...You've been asleep for two years, and the first thing you do is injure the nurses here. I'm their greatest benefactor, how do you think that looks on me when you act out like that?" Master Sumiah was a man in his late seventies and was still fit to move around like he was in his teens. Constant training and mediation saw to his fitness and health.
Sayu looked over to her Master and felt like crying all over again. "...M-Master...what happened?"
"...You didn't arrive in time at your home that night when I went to check on you like every other night. I contacted that fool Takashi and he told me you had already left the workshop. So I went looking for you and found you. Had I been an hour or so too late, you would've died. You had already lost a lot of blood from that hit and run driver and your skull was cracked. What were you thinking walking home in the rain? You know how uncoordinated you can get. By the time the doctors had fixed you up, you had slipped into your coma. I've paid this hospital to keep you on life support for these past two years, hoping you would wake up one day." Master Sumiah stared at Sayu with a calculating look on his face.
Sayu sat up slowly and looked at her hands. Her red hair was longer then before, reaching well past her feet onto the floor. Her body, skinnier then she was use to. Her throat scratchy from the yelling from earlier and honestly she just didn't feel like her normal self. She looked like a modern broken Rapunzal. "...Master...I was in a dream...no it wasn't a dream...it didn't feel like a dream."
"...Sayu...tell me...what happened to you?" Master Sumiah reached over and placed a hand over hers.
Sayu hiccuped and more tears fell from her eyes. She was at a breaking point that she couldn't handle...how did she get to Law in the first place...? She...she died...then...could she maybe again? Sayu turned to Sumiah with wide tearful eyes. "I want to die!" She shouted at her master. "If being on my death bed means I can be with my best friend again, then I want to die! Just let me go and-"
Master Sumiah had taken his hand away and slapped Sayu across her face. Sayu held her bruised cheek and stared at her teacher. "You're being selfish, child. Saying that you want to die...what would your mother think of you if she could hear you say that? Bless her soul."
Sayu glared at her teacher. "You don't understand! I know it wasn't a dream! I met him! We hugged! He always patted my head! He comforted me when I was upset! He was there when my mother couldn't be!" Sayu started to hyperventilate and her heart monitor increased.
"Calm yourself!" He tapped her knee with his cane and Sayu gulped down her tears and slowed her breathing. "Now start from the beginning and tell me what happened to you while you were sleeping...this dream you keep mentioning."
"But it wasn't a dream...I know it wasn't Master. Everyday...every moment I spent with him, the good, the bad, it was all so wonderful...why did I have to come back? There's nothing here...if he isn't with me!" Sayu put her head in her hands and choked back a sob. "Why? Why?! Why does everyone have to be taken away from me?! First mother and now him!"
Sumiah stared at his only student in sorrow. Whatever she dreamed about while she was in her coma really had affected her. He looked out her window hearing seagulls that were chirping on the horizon of the ocean. It seemed like the birds were singing a sad song as well. His poor student was broken and Sumiah didn't know what to do.
Trafalgar Law
Law looked up to the sky seeing seagulls flying over head singing a sad song at least to him it seemed like...
It was nearly dusk and everyone was tired. They had searched the entire island but couldn't find any clues or information on the mysterious old woman who had given him that damn crystal that seemed to take Sayu away from him.
"Daddy is calling!"
Sayu's communication device was in Law's back pocket and that cursed ring tone went off.
"What's that, Torao?!" Luffy asked him with excitement as Law pulled out Sayu's phone.
Ignoring the idiot next to him, Law slid his finger across the screen like Sayu had shown him and held it against his ear. "Yes?"
"Why are you answering my daughters phone?! You've done something to her, haven't you?!" Shanks voice rang out from the other side of the device.
"Now is not the time for this...I'm having a crisis at the moment old man, so if you wouldn't call again, I'd appreciate it." Law was about to hang up when he remembered the story of how he met Sayu's mother. "Oi, old man! What do you know about Miri Island?!"
Shanks was quiet on the other line before speaking up. "...Why? It's a vacation island..."
Law scoffed, he could practically hear the lies in Shank's voice. "This isn't a game. This old woman gave me a crystal and-"
"You didn't take it did you?" Shanks voice held worry in it.
"...I did..." Law cursed himself. He'll never trust an old bitch again.
"Kami...you didn't give it to Sayu, did you?! Please tell me you didn't!" Shanks asked and Law's silence was all he needed to hear to confirm that he did. "She disappeared...didn't she?"
Law clenched his shirt tightly. "She did."
"...I didn't want to tell Sayu this because I didn't want her to be upset or anything. But when me and my men went through the witches portal, we didn't come back willingly or we weren't able to come back willingly...we actually died in her world only to come to wake up in ours...a freak accident by one of those flying contraptions they had in her world. A plane if I remember what Chrystal called it. We were going on adventure in one of those half sized plane and...it crashed...if I'm right...we died and then we woke up back in our own world. I remember calling Chrystal that day on my den den mushi...she was so sad and happy at the same time. To learn that I was still alive...but to also learn that I could never return to her. That's the power of Miri the Witch. Her crystals can send you to your fated place but the only way back...is through death. At least that's the only way we know of...my poor baby. I remember dying in her world so vividly...we all do...it was terrifying...some of my crew hasn't been the same since."
Law choked on his breath. Sayu's mind isn't the strongest and she gets nervous a lot. Law doesn't think she would be able to handle her own death. "So...you're telling me the only way she's going to be able to come back...is if she...?"
Silence was heard on the other line.
"I refuse to believe that. She already..." Law looked over to Luffy and cursed himself almost forgetting that Straw Hat was next to him. "It already happened to her once...there has to be another way! She won't be able to handle another one and then come out normal like she was before!" Law shouted over the device.
"If you find Miri the Witch, she may be able to help you. I'll try and make my way to Miri as quick as I can."
"Did you say her name was Miri, as in the island?" This was a start, now they had a name to work with.
"Ah, Miri isn't an actual island...see...Miri is the island." Shanks said.
Law arched his brow. "I don't understand, be more specific."
"Miri the Witch...is Miri the island, and her heart is underneath the center of it. She's a mystical witch that you need to be careful of. Everything on that island is either an illusion or people under her spell. Everything she does is for reason and she's actually really nice, as long as you don't get on her bad side."
Law understood now. This island...isn't a normal island. The witch built it and makes it her home and if her heart is here, then she is still on this land. "We'll find another way and we'll find Miri. I'm going to find my first mate and bring her back."
"...Please find my daughter safely...she doesn't need to go through what we went through."
"...You have my word." Law hung up and turned to look at Luffy. "I've got new information, let's head back to the ships."
"Who were you talking to, Torao? And what was that black box?" Luffy asked with a grin.
Law sighed. "It was Sayu's father, he keeps in touch with us and we have an alliance as his daughter is in my care."
"Eh?! Sa-chan's father is a pirate?! Cool!" Luffy followed behind Law as they made way back to the sub. What they didn't know was that Haken and Robin had discovered something as well while examining the strange crystal.
Trinity Sayu
It's been a week since Sayu woke up from her supposed coma. She was still in the hospital, but the restraints had been taken off as she was now just a quiet girl with nothing to say. She was depressed, very depressed and wanted nothing more then to leave and go back to where Law was.
"I'm coming in, Sayu." Master Sumiah announced his presence and walked into her hospital room. He took one look at her and she looked worse than the day before. Her face was pale and her eyes held a look, like she has just giving up on living. This wasn't the bright girl that he use to teach. This wasn't the girl that would smile when building something. This wasn't the girl that would grin when going through training with him. This just wasn't the same girl.
"...Master Sumiah...please get me out of here..." Sayu begged her master.
"I can't do that, Sayu...you're on suicide watch. You tried to kill yourself two days ago...remember?"
Sayu remembers picking up a pair of scissors one of the doctors had left near her bed and holding it to her wrist. She was going to do it before a nurse walked in and screamed. "...I don't want to be here...my mother is dead...my father and best friend are else where. Why do I have to live here if the people I care about aren't with me?"
Sumiah sat next to her and placed his cane beside him. "You have me and that old fart Takashi...are we not enough for you, Sayu? You use to be so happy before your accident...are we not doing the best for you, child?"
Sayu wondered how she had fallen so low. Did Law have that much of an impact on her life? ...Of course he did. "I saw a bird today...it got swept away by the waves of the ocean...do you think I could be that bird?"
"...Birds will always emerge flying, and soaring. Don't think such depressing things...you're making this old man's heart hurt." Sumiah rubbed her head but it didn't have the same effect as when Law rubbed her head. "Tell me more about this man that you dreamed about."
"...Law was...is an amazing person. I thought...he wasn't real at first...but then he was. He's my best friend...we lean on each other." Sayu stared out her window. "...If our world had people like him in it...then I would like this place and have more hope for it. But...there's no one like Law here." Sayu sighed and turned to her master. "Today is the same as yesterday...Law told me that if I want to change tomorrow, I would have to change today...I get that, I do...but still...Master, my heart feels hollow like yesterday and I'm unsatisfied here." Sayu closed her eyes and imagined Law petting her head. "I can't forget his warmth...his touch. And when he smiled...I saw it only once. Not a smirk or grin, but a smile...and it was so beautiful, Master."
Sumiah smiled at his student. "If this old man knows any better, it sounds like you fell in love with this dream man."
Sayu didn't say anything. Had she fallen in love with Law? She loves Ace, Sanji and everyone else...but with Law it was different. "Master...what's love feel like?"
"Well...I imagine what your parents had was love in its purest form. I still remember when Chrystal came to the dojo and introduce him to me. Would you like to hear about them?" Sayu nodded her head and Sumiah smiled. "Your mother was clumsy at times and sometimes forgot to tie her shoe laces. Even with one arm, Shanks would bend down and tie them to the best of his ability. Sometimes they would sit by the apricot tree behind the dojo and just fall asleep next to each other with smiles. There was this one time that Shanks had been staring at her all day and Chrystal got fed up and asked him why he was staring at her. He said that he would have tunnel vision when he looked at her. She had blushed and smacked him." Sumiah grinned as he remembered the two.
"...Law liked to watch anime with me...we trained a lot together. He always made sure I was taken good care of. He worried about my health a lot. And he would always make sure I was on the right track with things...but...he's my best friend, and that's what friends do. They care about each other. I wasn't good with relationships with other people...before I met him. I don't know if that's love or not...but..." Sayu clenched her bed sheets. "Master...if I can't have Law by my side...then what's the point anymore. Being with him...I was the happiest I ever was after mother passed." It seemed that all Sayu had been doing lately was crying and feeling sorry for herself. "He said he would always be there..."
"Sayu...the man isn't real. You only dreamed about him..."
"That's not true! He is real! Everything was real and I know it!" Sayu shook her head and refused to believe that she had dreamed everything.
"...Oh Sayu..."
Trafalgar Law
"Captain-san, we found out something about the crystal." Haken took off his goggles and Robin handed him her pair.
"I've got information too. What did you find out?" Law and everyone else was gathered inside the Heart Pirate's lab. It's a little cramped as it wasn't meant for more than four or so people at a a time but they made do.
"I think it would be better to show them, Haken-san." Robin said and the cowboy nodded.
"Well, after a little experimenting and trial and error, check this out." Haken had placed the crystal in a small glass box and then backed up. "If you would, pretty lady."
Robin nodded and flipped a switch. The box lit up purple, and what they saw was a small little hole forming from the crystal. It stopped growing once it was about three centimeters in diameter.
"By enforcing solar energy, the crystal glows and what I could guess to be a portal of some sort starts to form. But it stops after a few seconds. We can maintain the portal but I'll need more of these crystals to actually get this thing stable. If I had to guess...it might lead to where ever the little soldier is."
Everyone was quiet as Robin powered down the machine.
Law sighed and looked at everyone. "What I'm about to tell you, you can't tell anyone else. Especially marines, if they get their hands on Sayu...they'll probably use her for experimentation or something."
"Hear that Luffy, keep your big mouth shut about my dearest wife!" Sanji warned his Captain.
"I can keep secrets!" Luffy looked away with a pout.
"Sayu is from another world."
"EHHHHH?!" Everyone was stunned except Law of course.
"I knew my goddess was an angel sent from another world!" Sanji had hearts in his eyes.
"How did she get here then?" Ryu asked his Captain.
Law looked down at the floor and then looked back up. "She died in her own world and woke up here."
"...That's so cliche, something you would hear in a fairy tale book." Nami said with a skeptical look.
"I've read a lot of scribes...they're have been cases of other worldly travels a long time ago, but to hear about one in this time of age is...unheard of." Robin muttered. "In fact, I heard of witches having powers of dimensional travel, but there's only talk of one left in the world."
"And we're docked on her." Law stated and everyone looked at him.
"W-W-What do you mean, Torao? Are you saying there's a witch on this resort island? S-Scary..." Usopp was shivering in fear.
"The best way to say it...this island is the witch...?" Law wasn't sure how else to put it so it even sounded weird to him. "I believe the woman who gave me the crystal is that witch. Sayu's father got in contact with me and told me the whole story. She buried her heart underneath this island and it keeps it going so she's still here."
Haken smirked. "I knew there was something really special about my little soldier, but to be from another world." He whistled.
Bepo spoke up next. "Sayu...died?" Everyone got quiet at that, it almost flew over their heads. "...She must have been in pain...missing her world."
"On the contrary Bepo, we've talked about it numerous times, but Sayu has never felt any sort of attachment or loss at leaving her home world. Her father is here and she has us...in fact, she's never been happier than when she's with us out on sea." Law had a tiny barely noticeable grin on his face.
"Wait, her father is here? Who's her father?" Chopper asked.
The Heart Pirates all answered at the same time. "Red Haired Shanks."
"EEEEHHHHH?!" The Straw Hats were dumbfounded that such an important person was literally talking to them early this morning and they had no clue who she really was.
"Shanks has a daughter?! That's who you were talking to, Torao?!" Luffy turned to Law and he nodded his head.
"From what Shanks has told me, he went through a similar experience with this same witch. Long story short, Shanks got sent to Sayu's world, fell in love with a woman, had Sayu, and then died accidentally and got sent back here. The first time he told us his men had pulled him out of the witches portal...but he lied. He didn't want Sayu to know the truth. How would you feel to know that your father didn't die...well he did die in her world, but showed up in ours instead?" Law put a hand to his chin in thought.
"I'm so confused..." Penguin gripped his head. "Did Shanks die or did he not?"
Law glared at his subordinate. "Didn't you hear me, he did die, but came back to our world."
Zoro got straight to the point. "So what you're saying is...Sayu is going to have to die to come back here."
"...I refuse to let that happen. She already died once, she doesn't need to go through that experience again. That's why we're going to draw the witch out and have her give us the rest of her crystals." Law looked over to his scientist. "You said you can make a bigger portal if you had more, right?" Haken nodded his head. "Okay, so since we know this witch can't leave this place because her heart is here, we're at a good point."
"Question is...where to find the witch. We've looked all over this island already..." Yuri muttered.
"Ah! The hot springs!" Nami suddenly announced and clapped her hands together.
"We don't have time for that, Nami!" Usopp shouted at her.
"No, Ms. Navigator is right. When we were at the hot springs there was one room that no one was allowed to go in. The innkeeper said it was VIP only so we dismissed it instantly. But now that you've stated a witch runs this island, I have a hunch that maybe that's where our mystery lady is at." Robin stated with a smile. "After all, this island is known for its...magical hot springs." She lightly chuckled to herself.
"So...her base is the hot springs?" Shachi asked.
"It's a high probability." Yuki said. "We should check it out first thing in the morning."
Law walked towards the exit. "We're going now."
Ryu put a hand on his shoulder to stop him from leaving. "Captain...maybe we should take a break. Get a little a sleep and continue this in the morning. The witch isn't going anywhere, you said so yourself. And honestly, I don't think I'm overstepping my boundaries, but you look like shit right now. Everyone could use a little food and a goods night rest."
"You don't understand, Mr. Ryu. Sayu's time flows differently in her world, who knows how long she's been there if she is even there!" Law shoved Ryu's hand off his shoulder, but both Shachi and Penguin blocked his way. "Move...or else."
Both engineers shook in fear at the dark gaze their captain was giving them.
"Captain-san...Kurokoto-san is right. We all want to help the little soldier but we won't be able to help her if we aren't rested and well." Haken moved next to his Captain. "Let's have dinner and get a little sleep. We'll go first thing as soon as everyone is up."
"Captain, please." Bepo pleaded with his Captain and Law turned back around to look at everyone. They all did look tired and he wasn't at his best either.
Law sighed and faced Ryu. "Start dinner then. Bring me mine in the med bay." Law left them to head to his med bay.
"Phew, didn't think that would work. I was pretty sure he was going to cut my head off." Ryu scratched his head and then turned to the blonde cook. "Oi, come help me make dinner, there's so many mouths to feed tonight."
"Ah...right..." Sanji followed after Ryu and everyone followed as well.
Ryu
"Ah, your kitchen is amazing. Look at all these high quality wares..." Sanji looked around and was amazed at how big it was and all the appliances that were incorporated in it.
"Sayu built the entire place. She worked really hard on the whole ship from what the idiots and Captain tell me. And the Captain makes sure we only have the most high quality ingredients. He is a doctor after all." Ryu mumbled while grabbing a spare apron and tossing it to Sanji.
"...Where's the bread?"
Ryu sweat dropped and tied his own apron. "Bread is forbidden on this ship. I know it's one of the tops in the food group but the Captain doesn't really...take to bread so much. So it's an unspoken rule to never have bread on the ship."
Sanji nearly dropped his cigarette. "No bread? At all?"
"Yep. That's fine though, I usually make everything from scratch anyway. Who needs bread when you've got skills like mine?" Ryu rolled up his sleeves revealing his tattooed arms and grabbed some lettuce. "You guys have preference on what you eat?"
"Ah, no not really. Our Captain will eat just about anything if it's edible."
"No allergies or anything?"
Sanji shook his head. "Nope, those ungrateful bastards are lucky to be eating at all. If I had my way, I'd only serve the ladies."
Ryu's eye twitched and he started chopping some lettuce. "There's some beef in the fridge that I was thawing out this morning before leaving. Grab it and start thinly slicing it. I think we'll have steak frita salad tonight with a shrimp bisque soup to go with it. There should be enough to go around for everyone and then some."
Sanji took out the beef and started to cut it. "So tell me are Sayu and your Captain a thing?" Sanji was scared of the answer, he didn't want his dear wife's heart to be spoken for. Sanji might be a ladies man but he was no woman stealer.
Ryu chuckled and shook his head. "Nope, but they might as well be...they're always together. That's why the Captain is so hellbent on going to save her as soon as possible. I don't think they would speak their feelings to each other though other than teasing and comfort. Sayu is too...slow in the head to even know if a guy is really interested in her. She's smart when it comes to machines and weapons, but if it involves her own feelings, you'll have better luck getting a brick to confess love to. They're...best friends as she says all the time."
Trinity Sayu
Sayu didn't have the will to eat. So she was being given fluids through IV's. It's now been a month since she had returned to her world and with each passing day, everything that she had experienced with Law...was looking more and more like a dream. She doesn't want it to be a dream...but that's what it's beginning to look like. Master Sumiah had bought her the One Piece novels from her house and she was reading them. But with each page turned, Sayu struggled to keep her feelings in check. Her books now had random pages with tear stains on them.
"How are you feeling today, Ms. Trinity?" A psychiatric doctor was at her bedside and reading over her charts. Sayu refused to even acknowledge his presence. "Still not speaking to us, huh? That's okay, we'll keep trying." Sayu flipped a page in her book. "My son is a fan of that show." The doctor tried again but still no answer. "Okay, well, how about those dreams your guardian was telling us you were talking to him about."
Sayu wondered when the doctor would just leave her alone. She didn't want anything to do with him. Where had Master Sumiah had gone?
"Okay...well, Ms. Trinity...would you like to talk about your family?" Sayu was done with this doctor and she threw her book at him.
"Get out!" Sayu shouted at the doctor. "I don't want to hear your stupid comments! I only have one doctor and you're not him!" Law will only be her doctor...but wasn't he just a dream...? No...yes...maybe?
The doctor who had been hit in the head with the book grabbed it and placed it on the bedside table. "Alright, we'll continue this session tomorrow." He stood up and walked out of the door and closed it.
Sayu glared at her bed sheets. How long is Master Sumiah going to make her stay here? Sure he's their number one benefactor but how much actual hold does he have over this stupid hospital? "I want Law..."
"Are you causing trouble again?" Master Sumiah walked in with his cane clacking on the floor. Sayu glared at her master.
"I want to leave." Sayu said and her master tapped her knee with his cane again.
"Are you going to go about your foolish ways? ...I don't want to come and find you dead on your own floor...your mother would never forgive me when my time comes to join her." Sumiah sat down next to her bed.
"...Master...is it wrong of me to want to go back? Is it wrong of me...I died the first time and went there...if I can die again to see him...then I don't mind dying again..." Sayu mumbled.
Sumiah glared at his student. "It's that kind of talk that won't make me get you out of here. Look at you Sayu. You're pale, refusing to eat, losing weight and your hair is losing it's luster."
"...I know but...Law is my only doctor..."
He snapped his cane on the floor again and glared at her. "This man is not real. When are you going to get that through your head?"
"But Master..."
"Enough, Sayu. When you get that through your head is when I'll let the doctors release you. Until then you're staying here and that's final." Master Sumiah was final in his decision.
"Master..." Sayu sighed and stared out at the window.
Trafalgar Law
"So this is the place?" Law looked up at the hot springs and shifted his nodachi on his shoulder. Luffy, Sanji, and Bepo had joined him as they didn't need both crews crowding in the bathhouse.
"The ladies await me in this paradise!" Sanji wiggled around with hearts surrounding him. "Of course, none compare to my beautiful wife, Sayu-chwan!"
"And that is why I don't want you near my first mate." Law glared at the blonde cook.
After everyone had eaten and gotten some sleep last night, Law was the first one up and started to wake everyone else up. It was early in the morning when Law had grabbed Bepo, and marched over to the Going Merry and grabbed the first people he saw. Which happened to be Straw Hat and his pervert cook.
"I hope they have meat in here. Last nights dinner didn't have enough meat." Luffy complained.
Bepo sighed. "The Captain knows the right amount of meat to eat everyday. I think you just over eat a little."
"A little?" Sanji looked over to his Captain with a scowl. "I have put a lock on the fridge every night!"
"Enough...let's go in already." Law opened the doors to the hot springs and approached the desk. "We'd like the VIP room."
The woman's face was hidden by her hat and then she lifted it up. Law drew his sword and pointed at Miri the Witch. The old woman smiled. "I've been waiting for you. You sure took your time, young man."
"Miri..." Law glared harshly at the old woman.
Bepo took a defensive position. "You're the woman the Captain was talking about!"
"Give us back Sa-chan, grandma!" Luffy shouted at the witch.
"Please Madame, I need my wife back!" Sanji pleaded with the woman.
Miri had waved off the blonde. "Oh hush now boy, I've been alive for too long to hear the pleadings of a womanizer."
Sanji's soul had left his body. "Womanizer...no...I simply just cater to the ladies."
"Where is my first mate?!" Law pointed his blade at the old woman. "Answer me."
Miri scoffed and pushed Law's sword away with a tip of one of her long nails. "Please don't point sharp objects at the elderly. You should learn some manners, young man." Walking around from behind her desk, she stood in front of the boys. "You remind me of my husband when we were younger. He was a dashing young man as well...I do miss him so. Now then, let's get down to business. You're here for some of my crystals, right?" Miri pulled out a sack and shook it. "This should have the right amount you need."
"You're going to give it to us?" Bepo asked the woman cautiously.
"Now now, young lads. Everything I do is for a reason. Your first mate happens to have quite a future ahead of her. I'm not a mean person, I just help people along their journeys." Miri walked around them and pulled up a chair and sat down. "Now, let's sit down and talk about this. Grab a chair." Miri snapped her fingers and four chairs appeared behind the pirates and knocked into their knees making them sit on the chairs.
"Awesome!" Luffy grinned at the magic chairs.
"Why did you give me that crystal?" Law went straight to the point.
Miri sighed and gazed at the young pirates. "I've seen what the future holds for her. Why do you think I let her father go to her world and let him do the dirty deed."
"So you are the same witch that Shanks met." Miri nodded at Law's statement.
"Mmhm. Shanks was quite dashing sixteen years ago. Not quite as handsome as my dear old husband though." Miri put her hand to her cheek as she thought about her husband.
"Where did Sa-chan go?" Luffy asked her. Miri waved her hands around a bowl of water appeared in her hands. "Cool!"
"Look closely into the water." All four pirates looked into the water bowl and there she was, strapped down to a hospital bed with restraints on her wrists and ankles.
"Sayu!" Bepo called her name but she didn't hear him.
Law looked closely at his first mate. She was pale...lost a lot of weight...her hair seemed to have grown way past her feet, most of it hanging off the bed and onto the floor.
"What's wrong with my poor Sayu-chan?" Sanji asked the witch.
Miri smiled sadly. "She's sad. Only a day has passed since she left you guys...however now..." Miri looked up at a clock on the wall. "It's been two months in her world."
The pirates were shocked. Poor Bepo and Sanji looked on the verge of tears.
Luffy looked puzzled. "Why does time work differently like that?"
"When you cross space and time, of course things don't always add up. Especially time, I don't manipulate it, I just work with it." Miri glanced back down at bowl. "I sent her back as I have a task for her. I would've went myself but...you can't cast your own spells on yourself. Don't worry, she'll be back."
"Without dying?" Bepo asked with a worried expression.
Miri nodded with a kind smile. "Without dying. I've seen it in the water that you have a plan. See, your first mate is from my world as well."
"You've come from the same world as Sayu?" Sanji looked at the witch in a new light. Another person from literally not this world.
"Yes and that man next to her is my husband. She's in good hands...although I may have caused her quite a bit of mental trauma. Poor thing lost her mother and now thinks she's lost you...the light of her life." Miri nodded towards Law who was just staring at his first mate. "I will give you these crystals, as I can't bring her back without much...excessive force...I'm sure Shanks explained to you."
"But why...why did you make us go through all this trouble?" Bepo questioned her.
"I needed a favor and this one was the only one that could do it. Being from the same world as I, she made the perfect vessel. I apologize for putting you all through this...you must've been very worried about your friend." Miri's finger glowed purple and she twirled it in the water.
"What's the favor that you needed?" Sanji watched her move her fingers.
Miri gave the young men a crinkle eyed smile. "Just watch." Twirling her finger some more she turned back to the water. "I've been alive for too long...much too long as time works differently here...and I finally realized what was holding me back."
Trinity Sayu
Sayu yanked at her restraints that the doctors put back on her. After her second attempt by trying to smash her head into the wall with brute force hoping to give herself a concussion, they had taken all sharp objects from around her and moved the IV's away, giving her restraints again. Now she was being force fed everything. Why are they doing all this? Why can't everyone just let her find Law and be on their way? How long has she been here? Sayu's mind wasn't the same as it was almost three months ago. They kept her in this single room with only doctors and Master Sumiah as visitors. This world...is not as kind as Law's world. People think your sick when you're not and judge you harshly. Poor girl this...poor girl that...Sayu just wants to go back to Law and that's it. Master Sumiah is keeping her locked in this room with no outside air or anything.
"Sayu, can you hear me? ...Sayu?"
A voice seemed to call out to her from nowhere. Sayu stared at the ceiling with a tired expression.
"Why can't everyone just leave me alone?" Sayu muttered to herself with pain lacing her voice. "I just want to be left alone..."
"Sayu...it's Miri...can you hear me...?"
Sayu thought she had finally tipped the crazy scale. Now she was hearing Master Sumiah's dead wife calling out to her. She might as well humor it. "Yes, I hear you illusion of my mind..."
A chuckled echo in the air. "I need you to pass on a message to that old idiot husband of mine, right before you come back so no questions will be asked. Can you do that for me? And then I'll have a present waiting for you from your Captain, okay?"
Sayu's eyes opened and once again struggled against her restraints but to no avail. "Is this another dream? I don't think I can take anymore pain...please don't let this be a dream..."
"It's no dream sweet child...by this time tomorrow, you'll be back in his arms. The man you love, right?"
Sayu giggled. "Of course I love Law, he's my best friend!"
A sad sigh was heard. "Oh well...now listen carefully Sayu..."
Trafalgar Law
Law had got friend-zoned so many times by his first mate, it was nothing new to him. After all, he won't be the one to admit feelings to her when she doesn't even know if she loves him. Sanji was smirking at the Pirate Captain. His wife is still his.
Miri put the bowl down on the floor and then held out the bag of crystals to Law. "Here you go. Thank you for letting me pass on my message...and I'm truly sorry for what I put that child through. But I wouldn't have been able to leave if I didn't get my final wish across which I know she will do. Oh. One more thing." Miri stood up and moved around to the front desk of the hot springs. Rummaging in a drawer she pulled out another crystal, this time it was white though.
Law stood up and backed up from the old woman. "I'm not accepting anything else from you. You've caused enough trouble."
Miri chuckled and walked towards him. "Like I said, I've seen what the future holds for your first mate, and this is my role in it. To give you this crystal. Tell her to keep it on her at all times. It's very important and she'll know the right time to use it." Miri opened up the bag and put the white crystal inside with the rest.
Bepo looked at the bag skeptically. "What does the white one do?"
Miri put a long finger nail to her lips. "Now that's a secret." She slowly walked to the door and opened it. "Now off you go and farewell, thank you for stopping at my resort, please come back soon and all that." With a wave of her finger, the pirates were sent flying all the way across the island.
"YAHOO!" Luffy shouted over the rushed wind around them.
"Where did she send us off to?!" Sanji called out to Law as they flew across the island.
"I don't land on all my paws, Captain!" Bepo screamed.
"Hold on!" Law advised them as their ships came into view. "Mr. Haken!" Law called out as soon as he saw the cowboy.
"Ah, it's Captain-san...they're coming in fast!" Haken jumped into the air and with a wave of his arms his cards shot out. "Texas hold'em!" A card barrier appeared just before Law and the others and they landed on it safely.
"Woo! That was cool! That lady was cool!" Luffy patted the soft cards that had caught them. "This is too cool!"
"Everything is cool to you right now, Luffy." Sanji muttered.
"Mr. Haken, we have the crystals!"
Trinity Sayu
Sayu glared at her master once again.
"I don't understand where I went wrong in raising you. I made sure you were taken care of, and I took care of all your bills and let you live by yourself. Ah, that must've been it. I should've made you move in with me." Sumiah was ranting about her and it pissed her off to no end.
"You should've just let me go to foster care then." Sayu had her restraints off today as her master was visiting her once again today and everyone knew Sayu wouldn't be violent to him. "...I'm tired Master..."
"Tired of what exactly? Living? You know I only want the best for you, Sayu."
Sayu sighed and nodded her head. "...I'm sorry Master...I really am..."
Sumiah grabbed his cane and made towards her window. "...I know child...I am too...I just want you to get better. Please..."
Sayu stared at her sheets with sadness. Was yesterday a dream too? Whispering in the winds of sweet promises that wouldn't come true? "I'm getting better...I swear...I've finally realized that everything was...a dream. There was no Law...I was alone like always." Sayu thought back to the smoldering black grayish eyes that haunt her dreams of someone that doesn't exist.
"You need to eat more...you're dangerously underweight and the doctors are discussing putting you on a liquid diet."
Sayu huffed and puffed out her hollow cheeks. "I haven't lost that much weight...and besides if they were good doctors, I wouldn't be losing weight in the first place."
"Even so-"
A crackling was heard in the room and Sayu looked up from her sheets to see something forming in front of her. "...Am I really that high on meds?" She questioned herself.
Sumiah turned back around and couldn't believe his eyes. A purple vortex was forming in front of the two. It started to expand and get bigger.
Sayu's eyes weren't playing tricks on her, were they? Rubbing her eyes she checked again. Nope, the swirling mass of doom was still there.
Sumiah stepped in front of his charge's bed in a relaxed and calm matter. Don't let that cane fool you, this old man could still whoop some ass and then more. Something seemed to step out of the vortex. First a foot and Sayu recognized that shoe anywhere as the full body came through. "Law!" With barely any energy in her, but she can always make some for Law, she jumped up and onto the floor with her bare feet. "Law!"
Law sent his first mate a smirk and opened his arms for her, he spoke to her in perfect english. "I told you, you and me together."
Sayu had tears in her eyes as she ran around her master and jumped into Law's arms. He caught her and they spun around once and he put her back down on her feet. They gazed into each other's eyes. "Law...I missed you so much...what took you so long?"
Law chuckled and gently wiped the tears from her eyes. "Quit crying idiot...I don't have crybabies on my ship." Law looked her up and down. "Look at you...you're a wreck..."
"Hehehe...guess what...in my world I'm eighteen. Time moved fast while I was with you..." Sayu couldn't stop tearing up and Law's sleeve was getting wet. "I have boobs now! And my hair is Rapunzel!"
"He's real?" Sumiah had watched the whole scene with wonder.
Sayu giggled and hid her face in Law's hoodie. "Of course he's real...I told you my best friend was real."
"Not to ruin whatever this is, but that portal isn't completely stable." Law mentioned still holding onto to his first mate.
Sumiah didn't know what to say but at least Sayu did.
Sayu turned back to her master and gave him a sad smile as she recalled yesterday. "She said she's sorry. Sorry for leaving you behind, sorry that she caused so much trouble and you still put up with her all those years. Sorry you couldn't ever let go of your pain of losing her...but she'll be waiting for you on the other side...Miri said that to me for you, Master. I'm sorry I can't stay, but my home is with Law and the Heart Pirates! Goodbye Master, I'll see you when I'm dead!" And with that the two jumped back in the portal and disappeared.
Sumiah's eyes burned with unshed tears. His deceased wife had sent him a message...
Trafalgar Law
Law and Sayu made it through the portal just as all the crystals exploded and shattered to the ground around them. Everything was quiet as everyone took in the new more older...and more sickly looking Sayu. But she was Sayu nonetheless to the Heart Pirates.
"SAYU!" The Heart Pirates jumped on their first mate and in doing so crushed their Captain together as well. It was mainly the twins, and Shachi and Penguin though.
"Get off me you idiots!" Law shouted to his crew. But everyone was too busy coddling Sayu to notice.
"Sayu! You're older!" Penguin said and Sayu chuckled.
"My body aged in my world and I guess this one came back with me. I'm gonna miss being sixteen." She mentioned.
"Oi, Ero-cook, you were messing with an underage girl?" Zoro smirked at his cook but Sanji was too busy staring at Sayu.
"Oh, my poor Sayu-chwan! You need a full course meal!"
Sayu's body was scarily skinny, almost like zombie skinny and it was freaking everyone out.
Law pushed the crew off him and Sayu and then helped her up. "Mr. Ryu, make some food for her now."
Ryu smirked and stretched his arms. "On it, Captain. Oh...glad to have you back shrimp." Ryu waved to the first mate before disappearing into the mess hall.
"Oh, little soldier...your hair is so long..." Haken moved over to her and her hair was literally dragging on the floor a few inches behind her.
"Ah...well, you know. I never cut it and this body is older than my previous one...I think I look like Rapunzel."
"Who's Rapunzel?" Penguin asked.
Sayu's eyes sparkled. "It's a fairy tale about a girl with super long hair that people used to climb on." She then turned to Haken. "Can you make a high top pony tail for me? If it still reaches the floor after that...then I'll...possibly cut it...maybe."
Haken nodded and went to go get a ribbon and brush.
"You had your entire crew worried." Nami said to Sayu and the red head blushed.
"Well...we're family...it's only natural to be worried. If Law disappeared on me, I wouldn't be able to stop looking for him ever." Sayu turned to him with a bright smile.
Both Shachi and Penguin were staring at Sayu...or more specifically her now D-sized breasts. "Captain, they're staring at Sayu's boobs!" Yuri snitched on the engineers and Law turned his gaze onto his own two perverts.
"If you want to keep those eyes, I suggest you go do something else with them..." Law muttered darkly to them. Shachi and Penguin both ran out of the room quickly hiding behind the door.
"Sa-chan! Let's go finish watching that thing with the ninjas!" Luffy pulled on Sayu's arm.
Sayu winced as she wasn't use to this body even after being in it for almost three months. "Luffy that hurts..."
"Idiot!" Sanji kicked his Captain's head and it went stretching out from the force. "Don't be forceful with my wife!" He then grabbed Sayu gently from his Captain and looked her over. "Are you okay, did that idiot hurt you? You've lost so much weight...but you're taller too."
Sayu chuckled. "Barely, only an inch or two."
"How did you get that body anyway, Ms. Sayu?" Robin asked her and Sayu looked nervous.
"Everyone already knows...how do you think I got you back?" Law informed her.
"What? So you guys know I'm from another world?" Everyone nodded and she rubbed her head nervously. "Ah...well in my world, I guess I was in a coma for two years...bodies age even in comas."
"Hey Sayu, we missed you a lot. Don't ever disappear again, please." Yuki said while smiling at her.
Sayu blushed and looked at the ground. "...Don't worry, it wasn't on purpose anyway. Speaking of..." Sayu turned her gaze to Law. "...How did you get a cursed crystal?"
"Tch..." Law turned away and then looked back at her. "I assume you know a woman named Miri."
Sayu nodded her head sadly. "Lady Miri was my Master's wife. She had died over ten years ago...Law...is Lady Miri still here? I remember her calling out to me...I'd like to see her if I can."
"Uh guys..." Yuri was looking out the port hole window and everyone else gathered around. "Woah..."
The Heart Pirates and Straw Hat Pirates rushed outside of the sub and looked at the island. It was glowing and had sparkles floating through the air.
"What's going on?" Bepo looked around as the island seemed to start becoming transparent. Both their ships were slowly and gently being pushed away from the island by an unseen force.
"Pretty..." Nami whispered.
Sayu looked around in wonder and then suddenly a voice rang out in her head in english to her.
"Thank you Sayu...you've always been a wonderful child...I'm sorry I had to do this to you. Thank you...thank you so much, I can't say it enough...good luck on your adventure. And thank you for finally letting me see peace..."
A gentle breeze had brushed against Sayu's cheek, almost like a small hand caressing her. The white crystal that had been in Law's pocket floated up and everyone watched as a string formed around it and it floated over to Sayu and laid itself around her neck. And then...the island dispersed in a bright flash of purple dust.
"...She's gone isn't she?" Chopper asked the others.
Sayu gently touched the crystal around her neck. "...Lady Miri must've been hurting for so long...just like my father. I think...I understand. Lady Miri couldn't return to the love of her life..." Sayu closed her eyes. "The pain must've kept her alive here...but now that she finally got the things she wanted to say to Master Sumiah...she could finally pass on with no regrets."
"Sayu?" Sanji called out to her as she started to sniffle.
Sayu covered her eyes so the others wouldn't see her tears. "She's been so sad for so long...just like I was when I was missing you, Law. I was so very sad! No one should ever have to experience that type of pain and sadness! It's unbearable! Law...I wanted to die, just so I could see you again!"
Everything clicked in place as she said those words. Law understood now why she had restraints on when they saw her in that hospital. "...Sayu...you tried to..."
Sayu looked at her Captain with a broken smile. "...I'm sorry...I know I shouldn't have but...I just wanted to see you and the other's so badly...everyone kept telling me you weren't real. And I started to believe it...but then...you finally came for me. Thank you, Law...thanks for saving me!" Sayu grinned brightly.
Law walked up to Sayu and rubbed her head. "I'll always come for you, idiot. You're my favorite mechanic. No one could replace you."
Sayu chuckled while blushing. "And you're my best friend! But...I'm really hungry. Luffy, dinner time!"
Luffy jumped up in the air. "Sanji, food!" Luffy's arms stretched and wrapped around Sayu and he jumped onto his ship with her in his arms.
"We have our cook making food for her!" Shachi yelled at the straw hat as everyone started to argue over who's ship they would eat on.
Meanwhile Law was shaking his head. Friend zoned...again. Looking over his mechanic, he knew he was going to have to evaluate her sooner or later but for now...
"Food, food, food!" Sayu and Luffy chanted together.
He'll let her have her fun. She's had a rough trip and deserves to relax.
Looking back at the island that just seemed to magically disappear Law let out a long sigh. This is one journey he didn't want to have ever again. No one would ever come between him and his first mate. Now then...time to call her idiot father and tell him everything worked out.
