Chapter 14: I find the traitor

A couple of months later…

"Kian, what are you thinking about?"

"Huh?"

Violet looked at me while the 3 of us, Harry included, walked through the streets of Locus a couple of months after the villain invasion had taken place. It was weird to be so casual so soon after my classmates and I had to fight for our lives a few months ago.

"What are you thinking about?" Harry asked the same question Violet did

"Uh, it's nothing really," I waved it off, trying to put what I had aside

It didn't work as I wanted it to. Why did Obsidian help me? Somehow he knew my name and...my parents too?! I had no freaking idea of what to expect anymore!

I looked up to see someone around a hero who happened to be walking around complaining. I only heard a few words from them: "careless", "dishonest" and "stupid."

If he was being blamed for what happened to me and my friends, then it was wrong. It wasn't his fault that it happened!

I paid no attention to what happened on the rest of the walk as I headed to my morning class. If there was one constant I had known, it was that through the doors of my classroom, Rennan would be at the front with the register in his hand

However, for some reason, someone else stood in the front today.

"Ah. Good Morning." the person smiled at the three of us. He was an old man I think but that's all I can remember of him. He held a register in his hands while the rest of my class had taken their seats and talked amongst themselves

"Wh-where's Rennan?!" I asked the man that took his place. "He's our teacher!"

"I'm afraid Mr Silva has taken a personal day. I'll be taking your lesson for today," he said kindly. "Now sit down, I'll be taking the register."

"Great," Harry said under his breath. "We've got a substitute!"

XxX

I didn't really pay attention to what happened and I went back into my thoughts again.

What was Rennan doing instead of teaching us?! I mean come on, he stuck by my ever since I was a kid so why did he ditch us now?!

I slammed my head against the table lightly.

I shouldn't be blaming him.

I was the reason he wasn't here. He was following up on what I had told him, a possibility of someone betraying us.

Who was it? It couldn't have been any of the students because we were all there in the same place and if one of us did, the villains wouldn't have attacked them.

Hey, Lucifer? Do you know who it is?

"...Not really. But try and figure out the motive…"

Right, motive.

Okay, so why would someone want to betray us? From what I knew it would have to be someone who suffered from the council and didn't like them. But that could have meant a lot of people

I knew my parents and a few others were part of that large group. This traitor also had access to the school records so I knew it wasn't my parents nor me.

A dark thought flashed through my head.

Why did Rennan disappear as soon as I said there was a traitor?! He was a teacher and he had access to the records and where we would all be located.

But if that's the case why did Auras attack him?!

"Hey, what's up with you?"

A girl's voice snapped me out of my thoughts and I was met with the sight of Jazmine looking at me curiously. Her pretty auburn red hair was braided elaborately down one side of her face.

I rested my head on my hand. "Oh you know, nothing much. Just thinking, what about you?"

"What were you thinking about?"

The rest of the class was on their way to the next lesson so I moved from my seat and began to pack up while she watched. "If I tell you what I'm thinking, can you promise to keep this a secret?"

"Of course you can." she nodded. "What's up?"

"I think-"

"What are you two doing here?" the substitute told us. "Get a move on. You'll be late!"

Jazmine and I both sighed. "It's okay," she said. "You can tell me later when we're sparring."

"Yeah, sure."

After school, I think 4 PM

I jabbed at Jazmine's head while she bobbed and weaved around my attacks. She stepped back and launched a kick which I parried to my right.

I should have been enjoying myself, I was sparring, something which I loved! But with what happened I just wasn't into it.

I threw a few jabs at her not really concentrating on how I did it. She parried them away with ease and I predicted that she would attack next. However, to my surprise, she grabbed both my hands and held on tight/ "Kian, what's wrong?"

"What do you mean?" I tried to get out of her grip only to find it difficult

"Normally when your sparring with me, you have this stupid smile on you face," she half smiled. "It's not there today. What's gotten you so down?"

"Let go of me!"

"Not until you tell me what's wrong."

"Fine!" I relented.

She smiled in victory and let go of my arms. "Spill."

I told her about what I felt after the villain attack a few months ago, skipping what happened with Obsidian and Marrow. I told her how I scared I was and nervous I felt that day.

"I understand." she crossed her arms. "Your aren't the only one. I was a little scared too after the attack. My Dad actually came home to comfort me this time. He brought me a flower bouquet to cheer me up."

"Let me guess? Jazmine flowers?"

She rolled her eyes but her smile told a different story. "Yeah he did. When I first learned to control plants, he used Jazmine flowers for me to practise on."

"That's nice."

"Wait, how are you scared? Didn't you beat Auras singlehandedly?" she tilted her head a little.

"I was lucky. If he knew I was capable of something like that. He would have killed me before I could have done it." I replied. "That's not everything that was on my mind."

"Is this what you were going to tell me earlier?" Jazmine asked

I nodded. "Yeah. I think there's a tra-"

"ALRIGHT, LISTEN UP!"

I snapped my head to the loud noise in the middle of the studio to see the person who it belonged to.

"Now that I've got your attention!" Phoenix said proudly. "I have an announcement to make. 8 PM at your Earth time tomorrow, there's going to be a meeting between all the council members to discuss what and how to make improvements to the school and whatnot."

"Okay, and what do you have to do with that?" Marcel asked him.

"Well," he said proudly. "I'm part of the security for them. I'm there to make sure they don't get attacked or something."

"Cool." Harry agreed.

"I have to go and get everything ready. Make preparations. The Studio is booked for the next 30 minutes so you kids have fun and don't hurt each other." Phoenix explained. "I'll see you later!"

"You're leaving so soon?!" Violet asked him

He nodded. "I'm afraid I have to. I hate to leave you 3 so soon, I've enjoyed teaching you kids a lot. You've made me feel somewhat welcome. When you're finished, just remember to close the door behind you, okay?"

And with that, Phoenix closed the door and left the 5 of us in the large hall. Marcel and Harry went back to sparring with each other while I returned to fighting with Jazmine, well at least that's what I tried to do. It didn't work like I had hoped.

"So," she placed her hands on her hips. "You were saying?"

"Wait," I said to her. "Wait, I think everyone here should know this." I turned to the rest of my friends in the room and spoke. "Guys, I have something to say!"

They all perked up at what I said and looked in my direction. "What is it?" Marcel asked me.

I glanced around and made sure everyone was listening to me. "I want to make sure that this doesn't leave the room okay? I want you to keep this secret."

"What?" Harry raised his eyebrow. "Do you wet the bed or something?"

"What?!" I shook my head at him. "No, not that!"

"Wait, did he really?!" Jazmine asked him

"No that's not why I asked you to come here!" I shouted at the pair. "What I'm trying to say is I think there's someone inside the school who was responsible for what happened. I'm talking about the attack that nearly killed us."

Violet's eyes widened. "Are you sure?! Kian, what are you saying?! That someone is trying to kill us?!"

"Not exactly." I said to her. "I don't know if that person was trying to kill us but all I know is that what happened was because of him."

"How do you know?"

"When I was fighting Auras, he mentioned that he had someone on the inside."

"And you believe him?!" Violet protested.

"Of course I don't. But if he was right, wouldn't that make sense?!" I asked her. "Think about it. The traitor knew where Njoro would have been right? at the training facility? The only way they would have known is if they had access to the school records!"

"You can't know that exactly," Violet crossed her arms. "That's just one possibility."

"A correct possibility " Harry agreed with me. "If it hadn't been for the last second change, Njoro would have been in their trap hook line and sinker."

"So why are you telling us this?!" Violet asked me. "So what, are you suggesting it was us?"

"No, absolutely not," I said sharply. "I know you guys wouldn't do anything like that. You don't have access to the school records do you?"

"If I did, let's just say there's going to be some changes! Marcel giggled.

I ignored him and continued. "I'm telling this because I want you guys to be safe. I don't want my friends to be in danger, not again." I stated. "So if you see something suspicious, leave straight away okay?"

They let that sink in and slowly nodded. "Is that why Rennan wasn't here?" Harry asked me. "Because you told him about this."

I nodded. "Yeah, I told him a few months ago but I didn't expect him to be absent today."

"Well," Violet stated. "Whatever happens, I know Rennan will clean it up so there's no need to worry Kian."

"I hope so."

Later that night…

I found myself in a dark place, the only source of light was the 7 lights circling me. I looked down and I was in the pyjamas I had worn to bed. Was I sleepwalking?

"Kian."

I looked up. "Who was that?"

A figure stepped out. He smiled at me gently and to my surprise, he was dressed casually with a baggy black shirt. The sight was surprising as I never expected him to wear such things. "Easy Kian." He placed his palm in front of him. "You're safe."

"Obsidian." I stepped back. "What are you doing here and where am I?"

"Did you watch the video?"

"Video?" I raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"

"The thing I gave you in the Training facility, did you watch it?"

"Oh that one!" I suddenly remembered. "Yeah, it was just me getting beat up by Marrow. Why?"

"You'll know when it'll come in handy," Obsidian chuckled. "Remember to keep it on you."

"Where am I?!"

"Here? Well this is just a mental landscape." he gestured around him "You see, people like us, angels and demons, celestials if you may, use this to communicate with each other. It's safe and no matter the distance, if you know the person, you can communicate with them telepathically."

"Telepathically?" I raised my eyebrow.

Obsidian thought for a few seconds before speaking. "Ah, you haven't gotten to that yet have you? I don't have that long so I'm going to cut to the chase. There's a traitor-"

"Yeah," I cut him off. "I know."

"You do?"

"Yeah. The traitor had to have had access to the school records so that he could let Auras know where Njoro was. That's how the attack happened. I figured it out."

The corners of his lips curled into a small smile but he coughed and regained his composure. "That's good, saves me time on having to explain that because you might want to get ready for this. Do you know the place where the Council will meet?"

"Uh no. Why?"

He clicked his fingers and the both of us were transported elsewhere. Instead of the dark space I was in, both of us were on Incini, just outside a tall building, bathed in golden light by the streetlights

"This is where by your Earth time of 8PM, the council will meet. The meeting room is just through the hallway and the room on the front." Marrow clicked his fingers and I was brought inside to show the red carpeted room and the carefully crafted interior design that wouldn't be out of place in Grand Designs.

"Nice design." I said as I looked around.

"Well, I'm glad you've gotten a good look at it because it won't be nice by 8PM. The traitor will attack the place."

"Attack?!" I snapped my head at him. "W-What are you talking about?!"

"You heard what I said." Obsidian crossed his arms. "The traitor will attempt to kill the council members in an attempt to bring down the current policy of elites only and the school at the same time. I believe that on your planet, it's called an act of terrorism."

"Can't you stop him?!"

"I can't. My situation would be compromised."

"Then why are you telling me this?!" I yelled at Obsidian. "How do I know you're not planning to kill me?!"

His crimson red eyes twinkled. "Because I don't want to, I took an oath to protect you."

"Huh?"

Before he could answer my question however, he looked up and then at me. "Time's up. Kian, if the traitor succeeds, then the school you know, the friends you made would have all been for nothing. Stop that attack at all costs!"

"Can you at least give me a clue how?!"

"The traitor will have explosives with an inverted triangle on it. Do your best to stop him!" Obsidian said. "Now wake up!"

When he clapped his hand, I found myself in my bedroom with the sun shining through the windows, leaving me just as confused about what happened.

Later that day… 4PM

The 5 of us were training again in the studio that had been booked for us. Phoenix wasn't present so he left the 5 of us alone. My thoughts should have been about fighting but it wasn't. I couldn't shake off what I had seen in my dream.

How was I even going to try to stop this?! I couldn't stop the traitor on my own could I?!

A glove bounced off my head and I looked up to see Jazmine looking at me with a smug smile.

"Hey!" I rubbed my head. "What was that for?"

"You stood still so I was just using you as target practice." she held the other pair of the gloves that she had thrown at me. "What's up with you?"

"You wouldn't understand." I grumbled.

She threw the other glove at my head and as I deflected it, she stood in front of me with her hands on her hips. "I'll keep annoying you if you don't talk."

"Stop it." I waved it off.

She pouted and crossed her arms. "Come on Kina, what's up with you?! Why are you so upset?!"

I sighed and picked up the gloves. "I'm stuck on something."

"Stuck on what?"

"It's about the traitor." I squeezed the gloves. "He's going to attack today."

"Attack?!" she raised her eyebrows. "What do you mean attack?"

"He's going to try and kill the Council."

She recoiled "And how do you know that?"

I swallowed down the lump in my throat. "I just have a hunch. Today's the council meeting and if something's going to happen, it's today."

"I understand that….but how do you know it's today?!" She questioned me further. "The council meets on lots of days so why is this one special?"

I shuffled on the spot, trying to come up with something to say but I couldn't. "I just feel like it."

"Really?!" she crossed her arms.

I turned to look at my friends staring at me with open mouths "The traitor is going to attack today?!" they said in unison

"You heard that?"

"When you mentioned traitor, we couldn't help but listen," Marcel replied.

"Oh," I rubbed the back of my head in embarrassment. "I should have realised that you would be listening."

"How?!" Violet came right up to me. "Do you have proof?"

As I looked at the faces of my friends, I knew I had to to say how I learned about this but it was going to take a lot out of me, I had to swallow down that fear, my friends deserved to know about. "Someone told me."

"Who?"

I took in a big breath and prepared myself for the worst. "Obsidian."

Their faces were blank for a few seconds. "Who?!"

"The guy who transported us a few months ago. You know, the one with the red line across his helmet and dark powers." I answered. "He told me."

This time they knew who I was talking about. "Are you serious?!" Violet shouted at me. "A villain told you?!"

"How?!" Harry asked me. "I was with you, there was no way he could have talked to you without me or Violet knowing."

"He told me via dream." I answered. "He said that people like us can communicate with dreams."

"He's like us?!" Jazmine's mouth was half open with shock.

"Yeah." I answered her. "At least he says he is."

"Okay back up!" Marcel scoffed at my claims. "Let's say that for a second that he is an angel or a demon, what is he doing talking to you?!"

"Well I don't know!" I turned to Marcel. "He just told me about what's going to happen!"

"We can't trust him!" Violet shouted. "He tried to kill us remember!"

"Yeah!" Harry agreed. "He would have killed us if he found us alone!"

"That's...not entirely true." I said earning a surprised look from my two best friends. "He told me that he took an oath to protect me and when I fought Auras, Marrow saw me using my Vorakian powers and tried to kill me. If Obsidian hadn't stepped in, I wouldn't be alive anymore."

"He did?!" Violet's face was filled with horror. "What happened?!"

"He went on and on about how my race was the children of the Devil and deserved to be killed." I said remembering what he said. "Obsidian saved me. It's why I think he's telling the truth."

"I felt sorry for Marrow," Marcel answered me. "Now that I know what happened, I'm fine knowing that he's spending 6 months in ICU. Bastard deserved it for being a racist!"

"All that aside," Violet waved what Marcel said away. "Can you really trust Obsidian on this?! I mean if he was a good guy, he shouldn't have attacked us."

"Yeah, that's the problem. I don't know if I should trust him." I answered. "But if he is right, then today seems like the day the traitor would make a move."

"Haven't you thought of another way, Kian?" Marcel asked me

"The traitor is a mole in Eden." I explained. "If I do ask someone for help, the traitor is bound to hear it. In other words-"

"We're the only ones who know about this." Jazmine finished my sentence.

I nodded. "I don't know what to do about this."

"What do you want to do?" Violet asked me. "Don't think, just say it."

I took a breath and spoke. "I want to go there and stop the traitor." I answered her. "I don't care how dangerous it is, if he succeeds, this school will collapse without the council funding it."

"And you're going to do it alone?!"

"If it comes to it, yes" I replied. "But I know that's suicide. I want us to do it together."

"What?!"

"Yeah, like a super cool mission" I said proudly. "It's going to be our first one."

"Are you crazy?!" Violet said. "It's one thing believing a traitor but asking us to risk our lives because of it..that's just too far fetched."

My heart sank at the rejection of my idea. "W-What are you saying?! If we don't do something about this, then we won't have a school to go to tomorrow!"

"Kian," Harry spoke. "We want to help...but we don't know if we should trust what Obsidian said."

"I don't either but if what he says is remotely true, then I have to believe him. If the traitor succeeds, I won't get to see my friends ever again. I won't get to attend the school I've dreamt of attending since I was a little 6 year old. I won't get to be a hero if we just ignore this! Right now, we're the only ones that can do something about this. We're training to be heroes so isn't this what we're supposed to do?! Put our lives at risk so others won't have to?! I know you're scared and...I am too but I'm going to try my best to prevent this, even if this is a small possibility."

I finished and looked at the faces of everyone present, my hands shaking. "If you're not going to help me then just stay safe. The attack is supposed to start at 8PM Earth time so just stay away from the Headquarters by then."

"Kian wait!" Violet yelled out

I didn't listen as I walked out of the door, trying to push the feeling of fear and terror from my body as I made my way home.

Home

Planet Earth, 7PM

I was dressed in the darkest clothes I could find, my costume underneath it. My backpack was stocked up with what I thought I might need in this mission. It had a lot of snacks and around my neck was the little device that Obsidian gave me

When my dad asked me about it, I told him it was just a souvenir that I liked and he didn't push any further. I wonder how they would react about Obsidian? Would they have fought him for putting me in danger or would they do something else?

I couldn't waste time thinking of this. I knew this was dangerous but I had to do something! I couldn't let it happen!

I zipped up my backpack and listened to the sounds of my parents and siblings waiting to see if there was any movement from them. Because of work, they decided to turn in for the night and everyone had to follow.

Everyone but me of course.

I opened the door and walked carefully, not putting any extra weight on the creaky floorboards to alert my parents. As I went to open the door, a flash of light grabbed my attention. I glanced to see the knife I had taken home in the middle of the dining table.

"...Take the knife…"

"Michael?" I whispered. "What did you say?"

"...I said take the knife…"

"Why?"

"...To protect yourself from danger…"

"Can't you do that?"

"...Not in this form…"

"Isn't being in possession of a knife a bad thing?"

"...I have a plan, Kaliel, just do it please…"

Deciding to trust him on this, I thrust my arm up and pulled the knife into my hand from the dining table. As soon as I grabbed it, the blade and the sheath started to glow brightly.

"Now what happens?!" I asked Michael. "It's like a glowstick, it's going to give me away!"

"...Place the blade and sheath on a hand…"

I did as he asked and the blade glowed brightly before disappearing into thin air. I looked around my hand. Did it just vanish? I found my answer when I saw a glowing line just under my thumb.

A glowing tattoo of a small sword lit up the underside of my palm. "What is this?!"

"...My weapon can be hidden in the body of a future vessel. If you want to use it, just think of it…."

"Really?!" I inspected the tattoo. "Awesome!"

"...I've also made it that it won't be able to harm anyone unless they harm you first…"

"That's good," I answered. "I don't want to kill anyone, traitor included."

"...As expected. I should be reprimanding you for trying to do this but…"

"But what?"

Michael chuckled to himself. "...No, it's nothing…"

Deciding to ignore him, I pulled up my black hoodie and tied my shoes properly before stepping out into the cold night air. I was going to do this without my friends and I didn't like that. I wanted them to be there with me but I had to make do without.

I couldn't blame them

I hope they were safe.

I walked to the school that I had gone for the past few months, ignoring the noises of the insects around me. The moon shone brightly in the night sky as I walked along the quiet streets , getting closer and closer to my destination.

It was eerie. Everyone was indoors and no one was looking outside, at least not to look at a 12 year old kid in all black sneaking out to stop a terrorist attack on another planet.

How I ended up here was absurd but I didn't give anything a second look as I turned the corner. With my heart thundering in my chest and my hands trembling, I took one final breath and readied myself for what was about to happen.

"Hey Kian."

I just stood there motionless at the sight in front of me. "W-what is this?! What are you guys doing here?!"

All of my friends stood there in dark clothing, just before the school with little smiles at me. "Did you really think that we were going to let you do this alone?" Harry chuckled. "Come on, we know you better than to let you go alone into stuff like this!"

"After what happened with Auras and with Marrow, there's no way you're going into this without us to cover your back." Jazmine joined in.

"Yeah, what he said." Violet smiled. "Oh and these 3 came along too."

She pointed at the 3 she was talking about and my eyes nearly bulged out of my head. "Leo, Mia, Chris?! What are you doing here?!"

"We uh….overheard about what was going to happen," Leo told me. "We had to know if this was real so we joined in."

"Are you guys sure about this?!" I asked them again. "This is dangerous!."

"They know what they signed up for." Marcel pulled the left sleeve of his hoodie up. "You were right, we are training to be heroes and if we can do something about this, if it happens, then we should."

"And if what Obsidian said was false, then we have nothing to worry about," Jazmine stated. "Of course if it is a dud, I can torture you forever over this false alarm."

I rolled my eyes at the statement but I couldn't hide the wide smile on my face. "Well, if anyone isn't about to isn't busy, let's stop this traitor!"

"YEAH!"

Planet: Locus

7:40 PM Earth Time

"Do you know where to go Kian?"

"Of course I do!"

"Because you know, I could run ahead."

"It's fine. I know where it is Jazmine!"

Everyone followed me as we made our way through the streets of Locus, careful to stay away from the gaze of the adults and anyone who would look at us. It was tricky since it wasn't completely dark in Locus just yet so we had to duck and weave through tight spaces.

"So what's our plan if we do bump into him," Leo asked me. "You have a plan right?"

"He's going to have something with him," I said. "We stop him from using it."

"Then what else?"

"I haven't thought of that just yet. I'm going to stop him first."

"If it happens," Jazmine said. "We're basing this all on a hunch."

"A Hunch?!"

I proceeded to explain how I knew there was going to be an attack, skipping the part about the angels and demons and Obsidian. "So we're just checking this out?"

"Yeah," Harry said. "If nothing bad happens, then there's no worries."

"But if something does happen, we need to attack," Marcel explained

"Okay got it," Chris replied. "You guys got your costumes underneath that?"

"Yeah," I agreed. "I came prepared."

As everyone made their way to the building, I let Leo, Chris and Milena go ahead slightly of us. I turned back to my friends. "Did you mention anything about us? You know, Angels and Demons?"

Marcel shook his head. "None whatsoever. Why, did you?"

"Nope."

"Then why did you say it?" Jazmine raised an eyebrow.

"Because I thought you did!"

"What if we have to use our powers?" Violet said. "You know, the angel wings?"

"You know how they're released right?" Harry said. "When you feel like your life is in danger. Just not feel that."

"That's a lot easier said than done." I chuckled.

"Guys!"

I looked ahead to see the 3 people in front of us standing just behind a wall, one that had a front view of the building that the traitor was supposed to attack.

"What do we do now?" Leo asked

"We wait." I replied. "See anything suspicious we make our move."

"Wait," Jazmine asked. "What if the traitor comes in through the back door?"

"Yeah that's not going to happen." Harry answered her. "This building has only got one entrance and that's through the front. I checked the building floor plan beforehand. We'll see him."

"What's the time?" Milena asked us

"7:41 PM Earth Time." Jazmine answered. "19 minutes before he makes a move."

"Everyone relax," I said. "I've brought snacks."

XxX

7:50 PM

The time ticked on as all 8 of us stared at the red brick building. While I was eating down a croissant, I glanced to see the setting sun painted the bright red wall with a bright golden light making it that much more obvious if someone was to walk in.

"Hey."

I turned to see Jazmine next to me. "What is it?"

"Why do you want to be a hero?"

"H,,,?"

"You have a reason to be a hero right?"

"Of course I do." I replied. "I'm sorry, I just didn't expect you to ask about it right now."

She crossed her arms. "Well we do have some free time."

I sighed and sat down on the ground, away from the rest of my friends. "You know what happened when I was growing up right?"

She nodded.

"I don't want that to happen to anyone else." I started. "That's why I want to be a hero. I've suffered so I won't let others suffer like me."

She let it sink in and sat next to me. "I want to be a hero ecause I want to find out how my Mum died."

"Did your dad not tell you?"

She shook her head. "He didn't tell me the entire thing. He promised me that when the time comes he'll tell me. I don't want to wait."

"My dad told me about how he was a hero and it's what got me hooked on it." I stated

"I thought you didn't want anyone to be bullied?" She raised an eyebrow.

"Me saying I wanted to be a superhero was what got me bullied in the first place," I chuckled. "I wish I could see Varahard and show him my superpowers. That'll shut him up."

"Who?"

"The kid who used to torment me."

She chuckled. "After what you've done, I don't think you need to be scared of him anymore."

"I wasn't really scared of him. I just didn't want to show my powers to anyone." I said. "Especially since I know I'm a Nephilim."

"What's up with you guys?"

I turned to see Marcel squatting just in front of us alarming me for a few seconds. "You scared me!" I jumped back

"Sorry, didn't try to." he grinned. "What's this about a guy?"

"We were just talking about why we wanted to be heroes, Mars." Jazmine answered him.

"Really? Well I want to be a hero because it's fun!" he pointed to himself.

"Really?"

He nodded. "My dad made it sound fun so I'm going to be a hero just like him! I'll make him proud of me."

"Wait," I remembered something. "Didn't you say your-"

"Yeah," his smile dropped a little. "He died when I was 6 years old. I want to be a hero because of him so I can honour what he taught me."

"Do you know how he-?"

Marcel shook his head. "I just know he died in the attack 6 year ago. That's it."

"I'm going to find out who's responsible!" I announced loudly.

"Hmm?"

"I'm going to find out who caused this attack and bring whoever it was to justice. That'll be my mission!"

"Are you sure?" Jazmine raised her eyebrows. "Our parents don't even know what happened so how can you know?"

"I'll do it. I know I've got a long way to go but I'll do it." I replied. "I'll make it my goal if that's what it takes."

"Kian," Marcel said. "Have you got a hero name?"

"Do you?" Jazmine asked. "Mine is Velocity."

"Mine is Mars. You know after the Roman God of War!" Marcel announced.

"Don't you think he might not like you for stealing his name?" I chuckled

"What do you mean?"

"Well if angels and demons exist, then they can exist too, right?"

"If they do, I don't think they'll care about a little kid who wants to play hero!" Jazmine chuckled.

"Hey!" he said defensively. "I think I'm special!"

"What's your hero name going to be?" Jazmine turned to me.

"I was thinking Arch-"

"GUYS!" Harry interrupted me. "We've got movement!"

"WHAT?!" I asked him. "Are you sure?!"

"He's dressed in black and I just saw him enter!"

"Did you see him carrying something?!"

"It's him! It's almost 8PM right?! It's the traitor!" Harry continued. "Come on!"

I tried to say that it could just have been a cleaner but I didn't get to. Time was ticking down so I had to go and stop the person

"Well," Jazmine said. "Guess you were right. You ready?"

"Yeah!" I agreed. "Let's go stop him!"

Without wasting a second, we made our move towards the entrance.

xXx

We charged in and almost kicked the doors of the hinges as we stormed the building. The hallway was just like what I had seen before when Auras had talked to me in my dream but this time, there was one difference.

"THERE HE IS!" Harry pointed just front of us

How did I know it was a guy? It was obvious. He was tall and was covered in all black as he stood like a deer in headlights in front of us, almost shocked that we were there before him

"Wait," I looked around him. "Where-"

"ARRRRRGGGH!" Marcel primed his left hand and released a barrage of explosions at his target. The target dodged it but Marcel was ready. threw another round of explosions that he was forced to block by crossing his arms.

The intruder went on guard and so did I but before I could do anything, Jazmin sped past me and charged into him, sending him crashing into a wall and he crumpled to the ground like a sack of potatoes, groaning audibly.

"Got him!" Marcel cackled.

"Where's the explosives?"

"Explosives?" Violet asked me. "What do you mean explosives?"

"Explosives to blow the whole place up!" I said hastily. "Where are they?!"

"Uh...you didn't mention anything about explosives, Kian." Harry scratched his head.

"I was going to before we all charged in!"

I heard the crackle of lightning and turned to see Jazmine right next to me. "No explosives anywhere. Whoever this guy is, it isn't who Kian is looking for."

"Huh?!" Marcel scrunched his face. "Then who is it?!"

"You damn kids!" the man in the mask grunted. "Let me go!" He reached for the mask and pulled it off in a hurry leaving a disgruntled man with blonde hair and amber eyes

"Rennan?!" All of us said together

He got up shakily, hand on his stomach. "What are you kids doing here?!"

"What are you doing here?!" I asked him first.

Rennan coughed. "I was investigating the traitor and I was going to wait here until he came along. But you kids just ruined my plan. Thanks a lot!"

"Wait, how did you know about this?" Violet asked

"I told him," I said. "Just after what happened in the training facility."

"So if you're not the traitor then who is?" Leo asked. "Don't tell me we came here all this way for nothing?!"

Just as Leo finished the sentence, the doors behind us opened and a large figure walked forward, carrying something on his back. Once he closed the doors behind him and he looked at us, his face dropped.

"...Not like this. Why did it have to be like this?!"

A lump formed in my throat. "No...it can't be you!"

There were 5 canisters behind him, each one with an inverted triangle near the top cylinder. He swept away his dark hair, revealing his sad dark eyes as he set them down in a huge chorus of loud noise

"Kian, what's going on?!" Harry asked me, looking at me and at him.

"That's him…" I answered. "The traitor...is our teacher Phoenix!"
