Red-Eyed Reaper
'Hmm, I wonder how they found me?"
Kian flew above an empty street as he pondered the question. There was no way that it was just a coincidence, the timing was perfect, perfect enough to catch him on his little break. How did they do it?
As Kian thought it over, he slowed down when approaching a street corner and 3 gunmen appeared in front of him.
BANGBANBANG
Kian flew backwards, his legs narrowly avoiding the gunshots as he rode the airwaves around him. He came to a stop a few inches off the ground and rolled across the street to avoid the gunshots, all of them hitting the concrete floor beneath him. He kept his eyes on the incoming attackers, flying under a small bridge to avoid the first gunmen, rolled under the carriage of a lorry to deal with the second one and went through a nearby scaffolding sight to avoid the bullets, letting the tight spaces take the third gunman out.
Kian emerged outside the scaffolding site and to greet him at the exit were more barrels aimed at his face. He teleported high into the sky and pointed a palm at the assassins, charging up a blast of Heavenforce in his hands
FPWOOMPH
The sound of a grenade launcher being fired caught Kian's attention and he turned to watch it fly at him. He believed he was safe from whatever it was going to do so his defensive spatial barrier went up to guard him.
KABOOM!
An orange explosion tore through the air and the shockwave sent Kian flying into the floor, the impact causing him to roll across the floor until he came to a stop.
He groaned and pulled himself up, brushing the dust off his shoulders and hair. 'How did they get past my barrier?!'
FPWOOMPH
Kian turned too late to see the same kind of projectile fly at him. Kian flicked his hand out and attempted to stop the shell from reaching him but despite the combined stopping power of his telekinesis and his spatial ability, the same violent explosion threw him with enough power to embed him into a nearby wall and shake the building
After some coughing and gaining his breath back, he glanced at his attacker: A short woman with a black outfit, cold black eyes and strangely an S17 rifle with a grenade launcher attachment underneath the barrel.
'No way, them?!'
She loaded another shell into the barrel of her launcher and pressed the trigger, creating another explosion that would have sent Kian hurling through the building, had he not teleported the moment she fired.
He made his escape from the scene without speaking a word. 'Those weapons, that jetpack…."
As he flew through the air, beeping noises caused him to turn to look behind him. 3 missiles exploded in his face, almost burning his jacket with the sheer heat. This sent the spiky-haired teenager crashing through the front of a somewhat busy bar, blowing the wooden doors apart as he skidded to a stop in front of the customers.
Kian ignored the gazes of everyone present and started to stand up, cleaning bits of dust and glass away from his face and jacket. Apart from some burns and tearing on the jacket, he was almost spotless. He wiped his hair to the side as he stared back at the customers, some with their drinks and food half away between the plate and their mouths.
"~Leave. Please, it's not safe. Come back tomorrow~"
They did as Kian requested and they left, leaving Kian all alone in the bar. Kian hopped up behind the counter as he heard the footsteps and the jetpacks of the assassins behind him.
"Well, well, well…" A man in his mid-fifties with dark blue eyes and messy blonde hair walked in, mimicking the motion of opening the broken doors with his hands. "Sorry to disturb you but I'm looking for someone, can you help us?"
"Sorry, can't help you with that, go look elsewhere. The pub's closed for the day." Kian replied.
The man laughed. "Come on, can't you help us? It won't take long. "
"I don't think I can."
The man grabbed the smaller gun by his side and aimed it at the wall behind the counter. "Cut the bullshit. Come on out Archangel, we have a mission to complete."
Kian sat down with his wall against the back of the counter. "How do your weapons work against me, Colborn?"
"Do you think you're the only one with teleportation technology?" The man named Colborn asked Kian. "We know what you can do so we improved our weapons to work against you. Anti Angel Bullets, Anti-Angel Explosives that can pierce through your spatial defences. We know how to kill you and we know how to do it. There's nowhere to run, little angel. Ee have you surrounded."
"You've done your homework. Well done." Kian was glad that the jacket he wore was explosion resistant. He would have to give his thanks to Harry later. "How much did she pay you?"
"Paid us enough," Colborn announced. "5 million credits for your head. After what happened, she wants to hang you on her wall, a memoir of her greatest accomplishment: Killing the last Archangel."
"She won't get the chance. After what happened, the next time I see her….she'll be dead."
"Only a fool would believe that he could take on the mistress herself by themselves and kill her. What makes you believe that you can do it, kill an immortal all-powerful being?"
"She's not all-powerful," Kian answered smugly. "Only a pretender to real power."
"Bullshit. She's without equal in this world."
"Only to those who are weak."
Colborn grit his teeth, not getting anywhere in this argument. "If she's only a pretender, how did she bring the entire population of Incini to near extinction?"
Kian didn't answer.
"I got you there didn't I?" Colborn smirked to himself. "She happens to be all-powerful, even that little trick you did against her won't be enough to bring her down. Unfortunately, there is no being in this world that is equal to her."
"We'll see," Kian started "Once I stand over her dead body, once I've avenged her victims, we'll talk again." He smirked. "I've gotten stronger and I'll finish the job. She'll answer to her crimes with her death."
"Crimes?" Colborn raised an eyebrow. "Like the ones you committed?"
"What are you talking about?"
"You know what I mean. I wonder what your friends would say about it."
"They know." Kian rolled his eyes. "They were with me."
"No, not those ones. I mean your new ones." Colborn said. "They're our next target."
"What?!" Kian raised his voice slightly.
"Yeah, they're our next target after you. The boy and girl with the orange shirts, ones with the horse in front of them right? The Mistress wants us to take them alive so you don't have to worry about them dying. Although, with how weak they are-"
"Don't you dare call them weak! Do not insult them!" Kian yelled.
"Oh?" Colborn demonstrated by shooting a half-filled glass on the counter, painting the wall behind in front of Kian with beer and pieces of glass. "Can they stop a blast like that?"
Kian didn't answer
"I wonder how they would react if they knew what you did, what you really did," Colborn continued. "How much violence you committed. How did it feel to let go of the morals you preach so much about? To use all that hatred and jealousy like that? Did you enjoy what you did?"
Kian rolled his eyes at his antics but despite that, he was shaking just a little. "I d-don't know what you're talking about."
Colborn scoffed. "The people of Locus praise you, they know you as the great Archangel, but really, you're just like the mistress. You aren't as pure as they think you are, your friends or Locus….you're a killer, it's in your blood. You are the Red Eyed Reaper!"
"WHAT?!"
"Yea-"
BANG!
Colborn was thrown out of the bar with a powerful kinetic force. The Reason? Kian stood on top of the counter, his scarlet red eyes looking down the scope of a jet black sniper rifle. A weapon that once belonged to someone close to him.
A bullet casing flew out of the chamber as he aimed the barrel upwards and shot, to the left and shot, to the right and shot, leaving holes in the roof in the span of 3 seconds.
THUMP THUMP THUMP
He teleported high in the sky, just above the bar and as the Grigori started to draw their weapons, Kian's rifle melted into his arm and in a smooth motion, he drew his blue and red swords from thin air, turning into a swirl of red and blue as he cut through their ranks, dropping bodies one after the other in a streak of destruction.
"I am nothing like her!" Kian roared so loudly that he created cracks on the ground. "DO NOT COMPARE ME TO THAT GENOCIDAL MONSTER!"
"Kill him," Colborn commanded his team. "KILL HIM NOW!"
Kian, without looking, blocked a bullet barrage from behind, placing the flat edge of his blue sword behind him until the attacker ran out of bullets.
"All you should have run!"
With a flick of his other hand, Kian sent his red sword right towards her chest, impaling her through the armour. He telekinetically pulled her in with the free hand, using it to guard against a series of missiles and grenades launched at him from the other side.
"Did we get him?!" One of the Grigori asked.
"Stay focused!" His teammate replied, aiming at the cloud of smoke that they had created.
But out of the smoke came blades of high-pressure wind blades that cut their throats open, leaving the team that intended to kill Kian without almost anyone present.
Kian threw the body he used to guard away from him and turned to Colborn, his scarlet red eyes phasing between red and purple as he walked to him.
"Where. Is. Empena?" Kian pointed the tip of his blood-covered red sword towards Colborn's neck.
Colborn laughed weakly and wiped the blood away from his mouth. "..I don't know.."
"Don't play this game with me!" Kian gripped his sword tightly and prodded it against his neck. "You know what you have to lose!"
"I'm an old man who doesn't have anything but this job. I don't have a reason to live anymore after…You on the other hand… should really pay attention to where you stand!"
Kian looked around but nothing happened.
"Really?" He raised an eyebrow. "Was something supposed to happen?"
"You shouldn't give me the time to load my gun."
Colborn snapped his grenade launcher shut and shot the payload towards Kian, covering him target in a cloud of black gas, a cloud of gas that was removed with a quick gust of wind leaving an annoyed Kian in the middle
"What was that?!"
"Just something special."
Kian sighed and dropped his swords, putting a hand up into the sky. In an instant, a lightning bolt struck him and his hand turned into a blue blade of lightning, sparkling and buzzing with energy.
"Before you die, I have one more question." Kian pointed the lightning blade towards Colborn. "Who leaked my attack plans? There was no way Empena could have seen us coming. A part of you still honour the Locus Special Forces right? Let me know!"
Colborn took a moment to reply. "..I don't know the name but I know that the person works closely with Empena. He and some people you've pissed off."
"Huh?"
"Who knows Kian?" Colborn laughed again. "I'm just an old man with some crazy thoughts!"
"Goodbye...Captain."
With tears in his eyes, Kian breathed in and out and thrust his lightning-covered arm towards Colborn's chest, only to find the figure missing from the floor.
Before he could figure out what happened next, he received a barrage of punches to his chest and was kicked from where he stood, sending him rolling across the floor.
Kian performed a kip-up from the floor and stood back up. He glanced to see a woman in all black grab Colborn up to his feet while he tapped something on his wrist.
"See ya around kid."
He vanished in a stream of white light leaving Kian and the woman all on their own. Kian dissipated his lightning coveted hand with a swing and grabbed his swords with the use of his telekinesis. He stood in place waiting for the woman to do something...
Which she didn't for 30 seconds.
Kian stared at her blankly. "So...are you going to do something?"
FZWOOOM
Shel left a streak of black lightning behind her as she jabbed at Kian's head, earning a barehanded block from the raven-haired teenager. She stepped into him, grabbing and pulling his raised hand down to punch him in the face. Kian sharply dodged that punch and twisted around her grip to escape her grip. Kian brought his fist back and aimed for her stomach. She parried the attack and threw a right roundhouse kick to his head which Kian teleported to avoid.
Well...if he could have teleported...
Instead of teleporting behind his attacker, Kian found himself kicked in the head and thrown into the side of a building, losing grip on both his weapons.
'...What's this?! Why can't I teleport?!'
She dashed to where he was and threw a flurry of rapid speed punches towards Kian that to any human observing, would look like a momentary blur as she created a small dust cloud. She took a momentary pause from her attack and went for a front kick.
CRACK!
The lady looked perplexed as she somehow kicked an invisible barrier. She was further surprised when she went flying backwards and found herself stuck against a wall.
Kian emerged from the cavity that she had created in the wall, his midnight blue eyes staring her down. He had guarded against her volley of punches but his hands were stinging a little from the attack
"Don't think it's easy to kill me," Kian pushed the blue spatial barrier into her, almost crushing her with it.
She tried to resist the weight while Kian kept pushing forward, intending to get some information from her.
'I can do everything apart from teleport. Did that gas do something?'
"Where is Empena?" Kian stated. "Answer me, Lady!"
She did her best to resist the intense force but knew she couldn't withstand it for much longer. She had to find a way out. She started to vibrate against the barrier and despite Kian putting more force behind it, she went through it and emerged free from it.
Kian dissipated the spatial barrier and stepped back, putting his hands upwards, catching the swords that surged in from behind him. "Who are you?"
"..."
She reached towards the back of her belt and brandished a long black spear almost twice the size of her. She twirled the weapon in her hand and ran forward, thrusting the weapon at her target's heart. Kian stepped sideways and deflected the sharp tip to his left, spinning around her in the same movement. He went to attack her back but she turned sharply and blocked that slice with the shaft of her spear.
They continued this dance of spear against sword, Kian on the defensive while the woman was on the offensive. She thrust her spear at his head, chest and heart, gaining more ground against him with every attempt. Kian stepped back and deflected each attack calmly, making sure to watch her body position and always trying to read her to guess what she did next.
She pulled the spear back and swung it at his legs, causing Kian to jump. She used this moment to launch a thrust at an airborne Kian but he front flipped in mid-air and brought his swords against her spears, forcing her on to one knee as she was under the weight of that attack. She gathered enough strength to throw him off and away from her as she stood up.
Kian landed gently against the ground and turned to her with a confident smile on his face, inviting the pressure against him.
She stepped back and pulled her spear behind her and with her hand on the ground, she was a coiled snake staring at her target.
"What?" Kian asked as he pointed her swords at her, the evening light painting the both of them with orange light. "Don't tell me you're afraid of little old me?"
She wasn't afraid...just annoyed at how she was getting nowhere. One of her tasks was to kill this teenager, a teenager that caused Empena so many problems.
She attacked Kian once again, launching off her starting position to try and kill her target but only met the same result like before. She had to do something about that second sword of his.
Kian deflected the spear and brought it against the ground, trying to edge closer to try and maybe read the woman's mind but she did something that he didn't expect.
As he stepped forward, she did too and in an instant grabbed and threw Kian's blue sword away. Before Kian could react to it, she rammed the blunt flat end of her spear against Kian's knee and kicked his leg out, forcing him onto the ground.
As Kian was wincing from the blow, she brought her spear back and went for his head with her spear.
This was it, she had him.
CLANG
A scarlet red spear in Kian's left hand blocked the sharp tip of the black spear to the surprise of the lady. While she was trying to comprehend how this happened, Kian exploited the gap she left behind and used it to ram the end of this spear into her chest, hit her knee and elbow struck her on the head before kicking her, sending his opponent back with an audible groan.
He wiped the dust from the knee he used to support himself and turned to her. "You should have known I could do that. I'll ask you again, where is Empena and how did you find me?"
The woman didn't answer
"Really? Colborn had the decency to talk." Kian sighed. "This isn't going to work out for you. I can hear your heartbeat quicken, you can't beat me in this fight so whoever you are...why don't you tell me what I want to know?"
Behind her mask, she was indeed breathing harder now. Her brain fired on all cylinders, trying to come up with a solution against this stubborn opponent. From what happened before, she knew that his strength was in close combat and hers was her speed.
She had to bring the fight to her terms, not his.
She glanced backwards and a build-up of black electricity started to appear on her lower body, complimenting the white shoes she had.
"What's this?" Kian twirled his spear and sword into a guard. "Trying to attack me again?"
KRAKAOOM!
"You are not getting away!"
Kian's swords melted into his arms as he chased her down. The both of them accelerated with every second. Kian wasn't much of a runner but he didn't care when he had a target on the run like her. She was way too valuable to let go that easily.
Despite Kian trying to keep up with her, there was a small gap that was widening between him and the woman.
'DAMN IT!' NOT FAST ENOUGH!'
Kian reinforced his legs in an attempt to catch her, letting the frustration be his fuel. Pure hellforce flowed into his quads and calves to give him extra strength.
CRRACK!
This little boost helped him increase the gap between him and her but despite this, Kian was still nowhere near her. He had to level the playing field. He thought of something he used to do in the past. He remembered a fond memory of trying to chase down his fast friend when she pulled a prank on him.
"You know you can't beat me in a race."
"I'll change that today!"
KRAKKOOOM
A bolt of lightning hit Kian in the middle of the dim street, covering him in a cloak of blue energy. He left behind a trail of blue light as he chased his target down. The woman in black saw this development and increased her speed, leaving a black trail behind.
The two ran after each other, covering the whole of New York in a matter of minutes as they kept this high octane chase, painting the dimly lit up streets with black and blue light leaving pedestrians and anyone nearby wondering who just passed them by. They broke any unfortunate windows and blew away any loose papers as they ran, not even the sharp corners stopping their momentum.
Kian had a wild smile painted on his face, the feeling of the wind running through his hair and the tingling of electricity in his legs feeding the euphoria that he loved so much. He felt alive when he was fighting and he enjoyed every second he ran.
He started to close the gap and the woman tried to accelerate to get away from him. Kian thrust his hand out and from his fingers, surged forward strings of light that wrapped around her legs. Before the woman had a chance to think, Kian tightened the cables and pulled her in. He used the momentum to throw her against a nearby water fountain, breaking it in the process.
Kian came to a halt in front of her and noticed that a crowd was gathering around them. He mentally gave them the command to stay back in case the woman went after an innocent civilian
The crowd observed and started to video the two strangers who were sparkling and discharging with lightning around them but Kian paid attention to only the woman in front of him.
She appeared to be unconscious from the impact so Kian walked over to investigate, thinking that she was dealt with. He did slam into her pretty hard and he had no idea how durable this person was.
He approached and knelt in front of her but as soon Kian did, she snapped back to life in an instant and rolled backwards, readying and throwing her black spear out of nowhere towards Kian's head in one quick and efficient motion
Kian moved his body as much as he could but he didn't avoid the blow completely as the spear hit him above his left shoulder and the force threw him to a wall about 50m behind him.
He was lucky that the spear managed to only go a few centimeters into his shoulder and not completely through so Kian went to remove it. The woman however arrived in front of him and pushed the spear into him, trying to penetrate him completely.
"Who...are...you?!" Kian grit his teeth as he tried to stop her from pushing her spear through him but he was starting to lose ground against her.
She managed to push deeper into his shoulder earning a shout of pain from his target.
She had him.
Mission accomplished.
BANG!
The woman gasped for breath as she saw a gun barrel appear out of Kian's right hand. It went off again and she had to gasp for more breath as she staggered back.
"Can't run if you can't breathe properly right?!" Kian pulled the spear out of his shoulder and threw it at her feet. She staggered backwards and coughed up blood as she stepped backwards.
Kian aimed the gun barrel to her head but she tapped something on her hand and a white bubble formed around her, protecting her from the fatal gunshot. She stared Kian down as she grabbed her spear and vanished in a burst of white light leaving Kian on his own in the street
Kian placed a hand over his injured shoulder and panted slightly. "Who the hell was that?!"
