Listen With You Heart Chapter 8

To put it frank Phoebe was beside herself. Phoebe's soul was empty she didn't know what to feel. Curt Connors had just finished telling his daughter everything. Not like he had a choice in the matter nor would he contest it. This is a conversation long overdue. So they sat down and the tale was told.

During this time Curt Connors made a point to explain to her the seriousness of the situation back then behind the circumstances of how she came to him and why he kept the Parker's a secret from her for so long. And there was the fact he didn't exactly know the reasons why Richard left the way he did. He had theories, but his own anger at the time blinded him to them. When that anger had gradually dissipated as the years rolled by the resent eventually turned to guilt and felt he no longer had the right to divulge them lest they are exposed to be false. The entire time Phoebe kept her face blank showing no reaction.

Deeply concerned by Phoebe's lack of expression Curt Connors continued on though he made sure to keep out the facts of Norman Osborn's subtle threats and the purpose behind them. By the end of it Curt Connors waited nervously for Phoebe's reaction. He would've taken her exploding into a rage, but all she did was sit there staring at him dispassionately.

Phoebe found herself in shock. Yesterday she was happy living in this house with her father, just he two of them. Now Phoebe finds she has an entirely different family out there and a twin brother she had never even known about. It was all too much for her to take in all at once.

Come on, would anyone else cope with this any differently?

So without uttering a single word Phoebe rose from the couch and went into her bedroom locking the door in seclusion. Curt Connors let her go aware that all she needed was time alone with her thoughts. Maybe, just maybe, she'll return with forgiveness in her heart the next time their face to face.

There, sitting on her bed, Phoebe contemplated all of the new pieces of information laid onto her so suddenly. Slowly thing were finally starting to make sense to her. She was seeing things she never really noticed before now. Like how she was more into literature rather than science like her father. Usually when one was born in the same family there would be conceivable traits the child would probably take from the parents throughout life. Also, she looked nothing like Curt Connors in the slightest, but she'd always assumed it had been from her mother's side of the family whoever she was. Speaking of which in the past whenever she had brought the subject matter up Curt Connors would become very tightlipped and evasive. She merely assumed that he and the woman never did have a good relationship explaining as to why there be no pictures of her in the house nor photographs of herself as a baby. It's amazing how she was catching these small details now.

In passing Phoebe always did secretly think she was adopted, but left it alone. For she rather preferred to constantly believe that she was Curt Connors flesh and blood completely.

While her personal traits didn't carry much biologically from Curt Connors she was now picking them up from Peter Parker. They had the same hair color, despite hers being much darker in shade, eye's, he wore glasses while she had no need for them, and other details were making them known. How had she not detected them before now? It's so deeply unsettling.

As Phoebe became so engrossed with the similarities between her and Peter the curiosity she'd been keeping at bay became unbearable. Removing herself from the bed she now sat at the desk. She began researching Richard and Mary Parker in earnest looking up anything she possibly could that was available.

The second Phoebe saw a picture of Richard Parker she recognized him instantly. She knew immediately that this was the man she'd been seeing regularly in the recurring nightmare. She'd not once been able to see his facing having woken up before she could. This whole occurrence explained why. Her mind had been trying to remember, but couldn't because it had locked the memories away causing them to end up blocked erasing his face.

Phoebe remained isolated in her room for the rest of the day not wanting to be disturbed. Sensing this carried dinner to her room on a tray instead of wasting his time summoning her to the dining room for the evening meal.

Hesitantly knocking on the door, Curt Connors said "Phoebe, your dinners ready. You still angry?"

Similar to previously Curt Connors received the cold shoulder, silent treatment. Crestfallen he placed the tray on the floor for her to eat at her leisure though he hoped she wouldn't put if off for long. He'd ordered her favorite takeout meal in hopes of her easy towards him.

At her laptop computer Phoebe had stilled listening to him depart. When she heard his footsteps recede that's when Phoebe retrieved the food. Lo mein and wonton soup. Phoebe had smelled them the moment he opened the containers in the kitchen. She definitely was tempted to open the door taking the tray from him directly, but resisted the urge. She wanted him to stew for a little while in regret. That would teach him to keep secrets from her in the future.

Before Phoebe knew it the time was approaching midnight.

Overwhelmed with so much data at once Phoebe was waylaid with more questions than answers. With how late the hour is she knew that none would be achieved this night so she opted to go to bed having found it most illogical to pursue without the proper amount of sleep.

As Phoebe got into bed to recuperate for the night her mindset returned to Curt Connors. Quite involuntarily she felt pity for the man.. Her father had been caught between doing the right thing and falling victim to his own selfish desires to possess Phoebe. A daughter that came into his life by sheer luck in a lonely, depressing, and miserable existence with only his scientific work for company. He did what he did to protect and give her a life he felt in considerable retrospect she rightfully deserved. Curt Connors wouldn't ever had raised her the way he did if he hadn't genuinely loved her. There's no denying this.

Whatever resolution Phoebe had in making her father suffer for his misdeeds in regard to her crumbled. How could she hold a grudge and stay frustrated with her father when he'd done so much for her.

Phoebe guessed she could pardon him for this transgression this once. She knows for a fact that the love he's has shown her as a caring, adoring, and devoted parent to be true?

Authors Note:

This is a major turning point in Phoebe's life right now. She's just discovered her entire life is a lie and she has a whole different family to think about. Phoebe loves Curt Connors as her one and true father and always will, but this will be tough for her to get over.

None of you are going to believe what happened to me recently. I was on the way to get my nails done for a potential job interview when suddenly another car slams into my from behind. An idiot driver wasn't paying attention so I and the car in front of me got hit pretty hard. I'm fine, got lucky, not a scratch on me, but it could've been a lot more serious. Right now the side of my head hurt and my left side is really starting to feel the pain. Nothings broken just sore and bruised.

Bad news is my car got totaled. I really liked this car to I've had it for three years. Good news is I'm going to be able to buy a new one, unfortunately, it'll be a while before I can.

Today was looking so bright and then this crap happened.

For those of you who drive here, take my advice. EYES ON THE ROAD! I came out alive this time around. The same thing might not happen for any of you if you get into an accident. It's harsh, but the truth.
