Listen With Your Heart Chapter 22

Phoebe and Gwen work as a coalition to corner Peter at school the following day after the attack on the Brooklyn Bridge.

There's a lot the three of them need to talk about and not just the revelation Peter is actually this fabled Spider-Man swinging in the air through all of New York City.

After Phoebe red Peter the riot act for keeping all this from her and above all endangering his own wellbeing when he fought that monstrosity on the Brooklyn Bridge they still have a lot to talk about.

So Peter, Gwen, and Phoebe secluded themselves on the bleachers of the football field where anyone that sees them there would simply think the three of them are watching the football team during practice.

When asked about how he even ended up with these strange powers Peter drew the answer out of his backpack. Locked inside a tiny sealed container is the mutagenic spider that caused all this with one bite to the neck. Peter explained that when he'd gone to Oscorp he hadn't realized in time that a lab specimen had somehow hitched a ride on his person and ended up doing this to him. No he seems to have gained all that exact spiders ability's coursing through his body as a result now.

It's beyond anything the current scientists of today could've imagined.

The scientist she is Gwen holds the spider to her face in the sunlight so as to analyze it.

"It's so beautiful," mused Gwen, marveling at it.

"Beautiful, but deadly," reminded Phoebe, kindly.

Nodding in agreement, Peter said "Knows how to bite, though. I'll contest to that."

Highly intrigued, Gwen asks "Who else knows about this?"

"Counting you two, three," said Peter, smiling sheepishly.

"Really," said Gwen.

"Yup," answered Peter.

"Good keep it that way," said Phoebe, sharply. "Don't even want to think what certain people would do if your identity ever got out. I mean just look at Gwen's dad on the news this morning. The police want your head."

It's true Gwen's father made a public statement at a press conference following the events on the Brooklyn Bridge that the NYPD has issued an arrest warrant for him. Personally Phoebe thinks that's insane since Peter did everything he could to save lives on that bridge not the opposite. This Lizard thing is the one they really should be mobilizing all their manpower to find instead.

"Yeah, I know I've got to be careful," reasoned Peter, fidgeting nervously. "Hey, you…you don't…you don't believe what the police are saying, do you?"

Shaking her head profusely, Phoebe said "Hell no!"

"Of course not," whispered Gwen, sincerely. "Does it scare you? What you can do?"

"No," said Peter, grinning. "No."

"What did that think on the bridge look like," said Phoebe.

No one had managed to snap a picture before the monster vanished, not one.

"It was real big. Too big to be human," described Peter as best he could from memory.

"You've got to lay low," said Gwen, concerned what might actually happen if the police working under her father ever get ahold of him.

"No, can't do that," said Peter.

"You've got to," said Gwen. "I mean, why…?"

Shrugging, Peter said "Because of last night. Those people on the bridge. Whatever was attacking them would have…would have killed them. So I got to go after it."

"That's not your job," argued Gwen.

Against this from the start, Phoebe said "She's right, Peter."

Frowning in contemplation, Peter said "Maybe it is. I don't know. Perhaps I got these powers for a reason. And this is it."

Phoebe slaps a hand over her eyes while shaking her head at his indifference. It's brave yet might get him killed in the crossfire.

"I really liked kissing you," smirked Peter, cheekily. "You're an amazing kisser."

Phoebe lightly slaps him on the back of his head for that remark. All three of them laughed.

"Well, you know it was…It was good for me, too," said Gwen.

"Yeah," said Peter, moving in and kissing her.

Phoebe averted her gaze to give the two of them so privacy.

That didn't last long.

A stray football flew in their direction. Phoebe went to shout a warning for her friends to duck and avoid it. This proved completely unnecessary. Without even cutting off he kiss Peter deftly caught the footballs base and tossed it back.

A little too hard thanks to his enhanced strength.

The football plowed into one of the goalposts bending it in the middle and leaving a dent.

The football tried to find out who did that to no avail.

Phoebe, Gwen, and Peter sat there gawking in utter bewilderment.

"By the way, Phoebe, are you all right," said Gwen, worriedly. "I've noticed you've been very absentminded today?"

"Now that you mention it, yeah. It's my father," said Phoebe.

"What? Dr. Connors. Is he all right," said Gwen, alarmed.

"That's just it I don't know. He hasn't been home for over a day now. That's not like him. I'm afraid something's happened to him," said Phoebe, water building behind her eyes.

Gwen hugs Phoebe.

"Has he done anything like this before," said Peter.

"Yes, but he always leaves a message for me so I'm not left in the dark. There's none this time," said Phoebe.

Peter's eyes turn steely as they narrowed considerably at his piece of information.

Maybe he should pay Oscorp a visit.

Authors Note:

Hope you all like this one! I certainly did while writing it for your vast enjoyment! ;D

I recently put up a new story called Fish Out Of Water. It's a crossover between the movie Shape of Water and the show Siren. So far I have everything figured out except one little thing. A name for my OC. Basically, since my OC character is in fact a mermaid I want the name to be in reference to the oceans or any other body of water similar to lakes or rivers. I'm more than open to suggestions so like I usually do in situations like this I'm turning it into a contest. The reader who gives me the winning name gets a question answered about the plot of the changed storyline in question. So think long and hard guys on the name and the type of question you'd like me to answer. Because you only get the one until the next opportunity arises for the taking. ;D
