Listen With Your Heart Chapter 24
If Peter thought Captain Stacy would even believe him right off the bat or even humor him that Dr. Connors is the Lizard that was terrorizing people on the bridge then he was dead wrong. In fact its obvious Captain Stacy thinks that Peter is off his marbles. That disastrous dinner at the Stacy residence didn't come close to helping matters in proving his case either.
Might be a tiny bit too much to comprehend on such a grand scale on short notice.
Out of sight Peter doesn't hear Captain Stacey speak to one of his officers about getting all the files on dr. Curt Connors immediately. So in the end there maybe Captain Stacy did believe him. The two may not like each other, but how adamant Peter is about this then perhaps it's something to look into. It's too specific for Peter's statement to be some made up fluke. Not with what's been going on lately.
Obviously this development isn't going to improve so Peter is going to have to handle this himself. From what he's already seen the police don't really stand a chance against this thing judging by what went down on the Brooklyn Bridge.
Peter simply hopes the Doc won't fall off the deep end again. Whatever reverted Doc Connors back into his human form Peter sincerely wants to be a permanent side effect.
As Peter is leaving the NYPD something peculiar catches his eye, making him transfixed. A number of small lizards, unseen by most are actually scurrying into sewer entrances on the streets. This wouldn't usually be categorized as an unusual occurrence except the fact there is a giant lizard monster that is wondering the inner tunnels of the city to get around.
Peter gathers that these species of reptiles are either being lured or are naturally drawn to the Lizards call. Whether this is true or not Peter fells obligated to investigate further.
While Peter is at it he might as well make a quick buck. A bundle of newspapers are nearby. The front page is basically covered with stuff about the incident on the Brooklyn Bridge and a reward for proof on the Lizards existence.
Now that Peter thinks about it he has been short on cash lately. Might as well take advantage of this rare opportunity. Really, who besides him is even going to come relatively close to catching a glimpse on the Lizard?
No one unless they're being attacked by the thing in the first place. That's the main key.
So Peter makes a quick stop at an electronics store he sees further away down the street.
Elsewhere, unbeknownst to Peter, Curt Connors is actually making a purchase at an antique store in town that both sells and refurbishes items that have almost run their course. This one antique shop in particular even has a website with the stock it has in the store and at a warehouse in an alternate location somewhere.
Curt Connors had ordered something important months ago for his daughter, but because of complications it was delayed in arrival. That is until now.
Curt Connors waits at the front counter, as this establishment's proprietor is boxing and wrapping it for him.
"What did I tell you? Perfect working condition. Judging by what you've already told me your daughter is going to love this," said the Antique Shop Owner, grinning.
"Lets hope so," said Doc Connors, eager to be on his way.
Remnant's from the formula is making him anxious and far more fidgety than he would like.
"I guarantee she won't be disappointed. You're very lucky I managed to find someone that had the last part I needed to fix this. There aren't that many around anymore," mentions the Antique Shop Owner.
"Yes, lucky," said Doc Connors, repeating it quietly.
Done the proprietor brings the package over. Curt Connors pays for the purchase and leaves hailing a cab to head on home.
Truth be told Curt Connors would rather be in his underground lab going over data and morphing back into the Lizard, but he made a promise to Phoebe to be home tonight at the very least for a couple of hours.
He's not going to disappoint her.
Authors Note:
What do you think might be in the package? Hint, hint, it's about what she's doing for that writing competition. ;D
September 11th has come and gone once again. I was very young when it happened. Don't know about all of you, but I certainly was really scared. One minute I was at elementary school in class and the next my parents are pulling me out, taking my little sister and I home. That's when we learned the truth. The Twin Towers we'd see all the time whenever we traveled outside the city limits on road trips would no longer be there. We were stunned when we'd seen them destroyed on TV. Those trips were never the same again just like the lives of millions. In honor for the people that fell that day and to those still struggling to survive from the aftermath I suggest a moment of respective silence. I think we all can use that.
Hope you all like this one! I certainly did while writing it for your vast enjoyment! ;D
I'm glad to have finally gotten back to this after such a long absence compared to some others on my profile. I've been meaning to for a while and only now I've managed to find time and inspiration for it. I'm still very satisfied and happy about it.
Just realized not too long ago that the anniversary of this story's creation came and went so here is a belated Happy 4th Anniversary!
