Listen With Your Heart Chapter 25

Phoebe is making the finishing touches on dinner. She has cooked up one of his father's favorite dishes. This is a homemade shrimp risotto for the entrée and apple pie for dessert following after the main course already eaten.

Phoebe is really looking forward to this not just because they haven't eaten together back at the house for a couple of days, but, also, the way she saw him acting at Oscorp.

Her father is always so well kept and organized, not discombobulated as he first appears. So to see him look like that really does raise some red flags for her. Hopefully she can get some answers tonight from him the moment he steps through that front door.

Phoebe had only finished setting the table when she hears a bang on the front door. Approaching it Phoebe can see it's her dad on the other side. The two of them have a system of sorts. Whenever he bangs on the door like that instead of letting himself in with a key it generally means he's carrying something that is occupying his one good arm. So Phoebe is prompt in opening the door for him.

It's a pretty big package he's lugging, but Phoebe hardly pays any mind to that in the least.

Phoebe only notices that later on. Right now all she's pointblank focused on is the fact that her father is actually back at the house instead of who knows where and scaring her so much by disappearing on her like that.

"Papa," breathed Phoebe, relieved.

"Hello, Darling," said Curt Connors, kissing her lightly on the forehead as he steps inside and around her.

Judging by how fast he's moving and the fact he's leaning a bit on one side in order to properly balance the object inside the box must be pretty heavy.

As soon as Curt Connors lowers the wrapped box onto the counter the two share a warm and comforting hug. They just stood there for a little while lost in the time when in reality it's a couple of minutes.

Nuzzling his shoulder, Phoebe said "Oh I'm so glad you're home. Where have you been, Papa?"

"I apologize for worrying you, Phoebe. I…I just needed some time to clear my head," sighed Curt Connors, running a hand through his hair.

Concerned, Phoebe said "Why? What's happened? Papa, talk to me."

Inhaling and exhaling with a slight strain, Curt Connors said "I've been fired."

That takes a little while to fully register to Phoebe.

"What," said Phoebe, stunned and outraged. "No! No they can't do that! You've worked too hard for too long at Oscorp. You've done so much for them, they shouldn't do that to you. Why would they even think that in the first place?"

"Osborn and I have our own views on testing protocol. I disagreed with him so I was fired," sighed Curt Connors, leaning heavily on the counter tiredly although he attempts to reassure her that everything is all right. "Now I don't want you to worry. There are tons of other company's out there that know me and my work. It may take a while, but I'll be able to find a new job."

"Are we in trouble," said Phoebe, rattled deeply.

"I don't want you to worry about that. Everything will be fine," insisted Curt Connors.

Phoebe still is unconvinced.

Curt Connors then diverts her attention to something else to get off the subject.

"I've got something for you," said Curt Connors, nodding at the package.

Cocking her head to the side, Phoebe asked "What is it?"

Smiling, Curt Connors said "Open it and find out."

Phoebe then digs right into it. Phoebe opens the box and freezes, eyes wide in astonishment.

Inside that box is a 1930's Smith Corona Sterling Typewriter.

Phoebe can't believe her eyes.

Slowly turning to face a grinning Curt Connors, Phoebe whispered "Is this real?"

"It is very real," confirms Curt Connors, delighted.

Phoebe is almost afraid to touch it, but eventually does so with reverence.

"Where did you find this," said Phoebe.

"At an antique store in Manhattan. Took me a couple of months, but I finally found one. I've known how much you've wanted one, Sweetheart. Now you can work on your writing with an actual typewriter," said Curt Connors.

"Papa, I love it, but can we afford this," said Phoebe.

Shaking his head, Curt Connors said "No need for that. I bought this ahead of time months back when I first found it. The expenses on it have been paid for in advance. It's perfectly fine. All you need to do is enjoy it."

Hugging him for a second time, Phoebe murmured "Thank you, Papa. I love it."

"Your welcome. Now is that apple pie I smell," inquired Curt Connors, lightly sniffing the delectable aroma.

Giggling Phoebe sets the table and serves the evening meal.

Hours later Phoebe was asleep in her room. The typewriter now arranged on her desk ready to be used and help create whatever arises to form inspiration.

Through a crack in the doorway Curt Connors watches his daughter sleep. He's about to head out again, but he didn't want to head back to his underground lab before glimpsing her.

Solemn, Curt Connors said "I promise, Phoebe, everything will be all right very soon. I swear it."

Authors Note:

Hope you all like this one! I certainly did while writing it for your vast enjoyment! ;D

I've been meaning to get back to this one for a while and only now I've managed to find time and inspiration for it. I'm very satisfied and happy about it.

I recently put up some other works I've put out at titled Secret Of Bristol Cove, Predators Redemption, A Revolutionary Romance, Fantine Tezla: Hot Wheels Acceleracers, Magic And the Brave Little Toaster 1, Lavinia: Princess Of Edelweiss, Rorschach's Legend, and Nuala: The White Lioness. I highly recommend them. ;D

Rorschach's Legend is the newest upload in the long list of ideas for this website. If you haven't read it yet and you're a fan of Watchmen then check it out. I'd really like to hear your shared opinions.

I have other grand news! I was a patron at New York Comic Con! Ah! I'd been dying to go for years and now I had the opportunity. The Jokers from Impractical Jokers have been here along with Tom Hiddleston and so many others. Over those few days I actually got my picture taken with a couple of other actors/actresses and some really great panels. It really is so exciting there. This is an opportunity of a lifetime so there's no way in hell that I was going to waste a single second of it. No one ever should with something like this. Ever! ;D

For future preferences I highly recommend that you all keep an eye out for when tickets for New York Comic Con are available for purchase again for next year. This is a huge event and you should jump on it whenever you have the chance.
