A/N: Hey everyone, I'm finally back to posting. There's been a lot going on. I lot my desire to be creative or do much of anything, but I'm pushing myself to get back in and at least start off with some light drabbles.
Kari wasn't sure when the conversation had slipped from the usual topics - boys, fashion, and love in general (which was to be expected when Mimi and Yolei were the most exuberant and talkative of the four girls, well five now that Jun was involved in their "Girl Talk" weekends) - but she was relieved. She wasn't much into fashion - she preferred comfortable clothing, although she did tend to pick out certain colors - and the talk of love and boys always turned out one of two ways.
One outcome was Yolei, mainly, gushing over how great Ken was and Mimi talking about guys she'd met and were interested in (and trying to figure out more info on Sora's current relationship status). The other was Mimi and Yolei trying to get her to go on a date, whether with Davis, TK, or some random guy one of them liked for her. It was exhausting. Sora, bless her, would try and get them to cut it out pretty quickly, and it would work, for a short while.
Today their "Girls Talk Weekend", which was really only a couple hours every Saturday or Sunday (it was Sunday this time) had started off normally. Kari had to admit she had let her mind drift off into her own world for about a half hour until Jun wanted advice over some dating drama.
Jun was actually pretty nice - after she got over her major fan girl crush on Matt - and Kari had found a bit of a friendship starting with the older girl. It had definitely surprised Davis when Jun had brought her over for dinner one night.
Jun was similar to Mimi and Yolei in her choices of conversation, but she hadn't mentioned she'd started seeing someone. So Kari felt the need to zone back in and find out more.
"It was stupid, but he just wouldn't compromise." Jun threw her hands up in the air, annoyed. Sora chuckled, "What did you two disagree about anyways?" "He invited me to the movies, asked me what I wanted to see and then flat out refused! It's not like 'Stars Ashe' is JUST a romance movie! It's sci-fi too! But no, he didn't want to see it, or even compromise on seeing 'Astra'. It's supposed to be a sci-fi drama, but all he wanted to see was that 'Kind of Pop' comedy movie!"
Jun flailed her arms up again, nearly hitting the passing server in the face. She turned, red faced, "Sorry." The server waved it off, murmuring something about "girls and their drama". Kari chose to ignore it. Mimi was already ranting about how "(he) asked Jun out", "asked her what she wanted to see", and then "pulled something like that".
Kari was about to zone out once again, since it seemed Jun was not going out with this guy again, until Jun asked, "What is your favorite movie genre? I mean, we've hung out a lot and you guys probably already know each others, but I feel like I hardly know anything about you all... well, except the whole, 'you know'." Jun waved her hands in a circular motion at "you know".
Mimi and Yolei's answers were almost identical, which honestly was expected. They bother loved romance movies, especially dramatic romances. Yolei also loved Sci-Fi's and that it was usually the go-to movie genre for her and Ken's movie dates. Sora liked action, comedies, and even the rare romance movies. The four turned to her expectedly.
"What about you, Kari? I don't think we've ever talked about it before." Yolei said, puzzled putting her finger to her chin. "You secretly like romance movies, right Kari? It's why you're not dating. You're totally waiting for your prince to come in and sweep you off your feet! Oh, or is it going to be one of those 'Hate turns to Love' scenarios?! EEEE!" Mimi squealed at the thought. Sora and Jun seemed to be weighing their own opinions internally, trying to see which would fit best with her.
"Some rom-coms are okay. But my favorite are horror films." She shrugged, looking at the four girls around her. Jun suddenly laughed, "No freaking way."
Mimi and Yolei looked like she had grew a second head, while Sora sat in silence for a moment before joining Jun's laughter.
Kari pouted, "There's nothing wrong with liking horror films." She got out of her seat, grabbing her bag. Jun and Sora were still laughing at her. "I mean, yeah there's nothing wrong with it, but Kari! You should like romances! Or comedies! Or, or anything else. Why horror?" Mimi said, Yolei instantly nodding along.
Kari sighed, of course Mimi and Yolei would expect that. "I have to go. I'm going to see that new Indie Horror film." She put some money down on the table to cover her drink, and started to walk off with a small wave. "Besides, I don't want to make Thomas wait."
She said it more to herself, this was a big date after all. Well not so much as a date as a hang out and meeting his friends kind of date. She should have expected one of them to hear. Any mention of a boy and Mimi and Yolei heard it from a mile away.
"WAIT WHO'S THOMAS?!" The two yelled out, but Kari was already hurrying away, desperate to avoid THAT conversation.
She knew that she'd have a ton of texts asking every question they could think of, as well as some from Tai, but she'd deal with that later.

I decided to have Kari meeting and dating Thomas (from Data Squad). I feel like they'd be an interesting pairing, but I'm not confident enough to write it all out, so it's just mentioned.
