Well, this chapter was more than a bit late, but I'm working to get the next one up as quickly as possible.
Personally I thought it was time for Andromeda to spend some time with someone other than her guy friends and Evie fit the bill.
I do not own The Outsiders.
It was rather boring day for a Saturday. Both Andromeda and Evie swung lazily under the afternoon sun. Some nearby parents gave them dissatisfied looks, likely because their kids couldn't occupy the swings, but the girls continued their conversation irregardless.
"So in other words, it will probably be a while before your aunt Marge comes back."
Andromeda answered Evie's question with a nod and the girl responded with, "Dammit. I was hoping she'd be back sooner. I mean, she was pretty cool ignoring her initial threat to bring you back to California."
Andromeda smiled briefly before she added, "Yes, but now that she's gotten back\, I'm sure she'll convince my parents that letting me stay here for quite some time will be better for everyone." "Good." Evie replied, "I don't give a damn that their your parents, they have no right pulling that kind of bullshit because ... why were they even trying to make you come back anyway?" Andromeda couldn't help feelings amused by her friends reaction and explained, "It's because my grades had dropped from 'b's to 'c's and apparently that 'c's aren't good enough for them. Can't be a trophy child when you have mediocre grades."
Evie rolled her eyes and plainly said, "Fuck them." A couple nearby parents looked horrified and tried to move their 'precious darlings' from the pair of girls as Andromeda laughed out loud.
Evie grinned back then changed subjects, "Still, I'm kinda disappointed that you gave up on Dallas. I was really looking forward to seeing Sylvia get kicked to the curb."
Andromeda resisted laughing and replied, "I haven't completely given up you know." Evie waited for her to continue and Andromeda smirked as she explained. "We all saw the whole steal Dallas away method didn't work, so I decided to wait for Sylvia to screw up and come in after she does. She can't really complain when it's her bad habits that cause her to lose him, and I don't have to sacrifice my morals."
Evie looked mildly impressed as she said, "Let Sylvia shoot herself in the foot and get Dallas for yourself all while keeping your halo in place ... Nice." She chuckled as she said, "And now that she doesn't feel as threatened, it shouldn't take long before she feels comfortable enough to slip into old habits."
Andromeda laughed along as she commented, "Now that I've said that aloud, it sounds rather devious, doesn't it?"
Evie nodded back, "Oh it's devious alright, but that girl deserves it."
They laughed for a few minutes before they sat in silence. A pleasant breeze blew through, and Andromeda closed her eyes to enjoy it. There'd been rain recently, so the air still smelled fresh.
A sudden poke on the shoulder pulled her from her moment of peace. She looked over to see Evie pointing as she said, "Hey, that Soc has been staring at you for the last eight minutes. You know that guy?" Andromeda glanced over to see a familiar red-headed, hazel-eyed face. Andromeda frowned as she said, "I know him. Marcus Jameson. He hit on me the day I arrived here. He's actually the I met Dallas in the first place. Understanding appeared on Evie's face as she said, "He's 'that' guy, huh? Soda told me the story. She frowned and asked, "Want me to go over and give him what for?" Andromeda eyed the Soc who stared back for a moment before he walked away. "No need to trouble yourself, he's not worth the effort."
Evie raised an eyebrow at her statement as she asked, "You're sure?" Andromeda nodded as she insisted, "He hasn't approached me since, and I'm not spooked by all of" she gestured to the direction Marcus had gone as she finished, "That." Evie still seemed skeptical so Andromeda smiled and assured her, "I'll be especially careful walking home today, and aunt Marge got me pepper spray just in case." A couple minutes passed without Evie saying anything and Andromeda shook her shoulder as she insisted, "I'll be fine. I mean, I'm not some little girl."
Evie smirked and poked her forearm with a finger as she asked, "You're sure about that?" Andromeda brushed her off as she said, "Hey, quit that!"
Her friend held up her hands, a smirk on her face before she said, "Alright, but if you get even the slightest bit suspicious you gotta call someone." Andromeda nodded in ascent and the pair sat in silence before Evie asked, "Sooo, you going to that big dance coming up?"
There was dead silence as Andromeda stared at her before they both broke out into laughter.
As Andromeda managed to get her giggles under control, she said, "A dance? Seriously? You don't even like that sort of thing!" Evie snickered before she said, "Yeah, but the mood was getting way too tense and I had to lighten it somehow." Andromeda held back a snort as they conversation moved to other topics. By the time they finally said goodbye the sun had just nearly finished setting.
It was a calm night, but Andromeda made sure to keep her senses about her. As she passed by the lot where she hung out with the Curtis gang, she began to feel uneasy. Nothing seemed to be wrong, but she pulled out her phone anyway as she decided whether to use it.
A hand closed around her wrist and jerked sharply. The phone dropped from her hand and Andromeda began to cry out before her voice was muffled as she was dragged backward.
Yep, it's a cliffhanger. Honestly, I'm trying to use less of those, but this is where one definitely fit.
In any case, the next chapter will be a rewritten version of the attack on Andy. Since some of the plot changed from how it originally was, I'm intend for things to happen differently.
Well, hopefully I'll get this chapter finished in a week or less. I honestly couldn't say how long it will take unfortunately.
