Chapter 8

Nessie POV

By the time Nessie was able to get a hold of herself and fall asleep, it was late enough that when she woke up the sun was starting to come out. She walked out into the hallway to check if Nahuel had already left and he had. His room was locked and empty again. She couldn't help but feel disappointed that he wouldn't say goodbye before leaving, but he'd said he'd be back in one or two days so she tried not to think about it.

She went back to her room to get ready and head out for the day. She wanted to explore the area and see as much as the sunlight would allow her to, but she could always go for a hunt if things got too difficult. As she got ready, Nessie started thinking about her family. Her mother had said they were hurting and it didn't surprise her because she had run away from home, after all. She was regretting her behavior more and more by the second, but she just didn't want to go back home because she knew what would happen if she did. Not only would she get the scolding of a lifetime, but she would also go back to being the little girl in the family. That title didn't seem to fit anymore.

Nessie shook her head, trying to get the thoughts out. "Get a grip". She said to herself. She was out the door and on her way to the city in the blink of an eye and soon enough she was drowned by the noise and colors of Lapa.

The whole city seemed like it had been taken out of a movie set, it was just as electric and flamboyant as the night before, but this time there wasn't as much dancing. The streets were busy and noisy, the smell of burnt oil still lingered in the air and people's foreheads glistened with sweat. Nessie found she was fitting in with the crowd much more than she expected to be, she was able to get shade in various different places and when people spoke to her she managed to understand the words that sounded similar to Spanish. She was sure if she spent a couple weeks there she'd be able to learn brasileiro fairly quickly.

By nighttime, Nessie had been so many places, she'd lost count. She felt fantastic in comparison to that morning, so much so that she decided she wanted to dance. She followed the music through the streets until she found a spot where people seemed to be grinding on each other or doing complicated steps while a few men with instruments played and sang energetically. Nessie settled for moving her hips in time with the music to the best of her ability, until she was pulled into the circle of people around the musicians. People were taking turns dancing in the middle while everyone else clapped and cheered. When her turn came, a guy from the crowed went in with her so she just followed what he did and earn some cheers and claps for herself. Nessie had always been someone who enjoyed attention, so whenever she had a chance to get it she'd take it and this was no exception.

A few hours after that, she decided to head back to the hostel. It was almost 4 in the morning, which meant she would wake up with the sun again if she went to bed soon. She wondered whether or not Nahuel would be back already. She'd missed him all day; it wasn't the same anymore without him around.

Just as she was making her way around the corner to where the hostel was, she noticed a figure sitting down on the front steps of the building. She felt her face break into a huge grin and quickened her pace to get to him faster.

"You look happy". Nahuel said. "Did you have more fun without me?" His tone was playful. He was beautiful.

Nessie's heart started beating faster once she got closer to him. "I don't think it was more fun, but I did have a pretty good time today". Nahuel chuckled once, shaking his head from one side to the other. Nessie sat down next to him on the steps and folded her hands to stop them from shaking. Was she going to shake like that every time he was close to her?

He eyed her for a second before asking "Are you tired?". Nessie nodded. "Do you want to go to sleep?"

She suddenly remembered he didn't have a room. "What are you gonna do?" She asked.

Nahuel let out a deep breath and looked up at the sky. "I should probably get my things from your room". He didn't look down; he just kept staring at the stars while Nessie watched him. Something in his face was off, but she couldn't figure out what it was. He looked like he was worried about something, but it was gone as soon as Nessie noticed. She sighed and stood up, ready to go to bed.

"I'll get your things; you can wait for me here or come with me". She said, as she went in. A few seconds later he was following her up the stairs to her room. She opened the door and walked straight to the chair where Nahuel's bag was sitting. She handed it back to him and smiled. "I didn't touch any of it, I swear".

Nahuel chuckled a bit at her words. "I know you didn't". He said. "I would not have been angry if you had". He added.

Nessie shrugged. "Maybe next time I'll take a peek". Nahuel's faint smile appeared on his face and he stepped closer to her. His face was half covered in shadow from this angle, but she could still see the colors in his eyes.

"I will let you sleep, you must be tired". He said. "I'll see you when you wake up".

"Buenas noches, Nahuel". Nessie said, copying his words from the previous night. He shook his dead in amusement and touched her shoulder as he turned to leave.

"Te veo mañana chiquita, duerme bien". He said, without turning back to her. His Spanish sounded way more natural than his English, although it wasn't his first language either. Nessie felt a slight squeeze in her chest when he called her "chiquita". It translated to "little" and she knew it was meant as an endearment, but couldn't help the flashback of Jacob calling her "kid" from springing into her mind.

The next couple of days they visited more places within the same area. Nessie could definitely see herself living in a Latin American country at some point because people were so warm and happy, she felt like she could fit in perfectly if it wasn't for the fact that she couldn't stand in direct sunlight in front of anyone. She was having fun just by being there; watching people and hearing them talk was enough.

Nahuel seemed to be at ease again after the night he came back from his mystery trip, which he still hadn't mentioned anything about. It didn't make Nessie particularly angry that he wouldn't share where he'd been, but it bothered her to know he could keep things from her so naturally, it made her wary. She was sure she trusted him, but felt like he didn't trust her back the same way. Or maybe he was just that reserved. She was still debating how felt about it.

"So who's this mystery person you want me to meet?" Nessie asked. They had decided to leave Brazil and move on to Colombia and Nahuel had suggested they make a stop in a specific city so that Nessie could meet a friend of his. He didn't go into much detail, as per usual, and the suspense was killing her.

Nahuel chuckled quietly. "Have patience". He said.

"You already asked me to have patience like an hour ago. I have none left". She pressed. "Besides, even if you tell me who it is, I'll still be surprised when I do meet them because I never have before". Nahuel sighed.

There were a few moments of silence and Nessie decided to wait. She had noticed pretty early that Nahuel tended to take his time when it came to talking about his personal life in any level. It was as if he didn't know how to have a conversation about it with anyone, like it was a foreign concept to him or something.

"You remember I told you about my time in Peru." It wasn't a question but Nessie nodded. "I met someone very special to me during that time and we have been friends ever since. I believe I have never been close to anybody for as long as we have been."

Nessie smiled excitedly. "So I'm meeting your best friend?"

"Well I suppose so, yes." He agreed. He offered Nessie a smile as they kept going through the forest. It was close to sunset, so they'd be able to go into the city pretty soon.

"Do you have an idea of where this person might be right now?" Nessie asked as they made their way down a busy street. Nahuel was walking like he was pretty sure of himself, but maybe he was taking her someplace else before they met his friend.

"She always stays around the same places, so I think we'll find her soon". He answered and Nessie paused. He'd said the word she. Whoever they were meeting was a woman, probably a beautiful latin bombshell or something. All of a sudden Nessie became very self-aware of the fact that her hair was probably looking like a mess, she was wearing ripped shorts and sneakers and probably smelled like she'd been wearing the same clothes for days because she was.

They kept walking around and stopping at random places like markets, bodegas and café's. It hadn't been too long until they were standing near a lounge that seemed to be pretty relaxed. People were ordering drinks and eating chips. It must have been happy hour. Nahuel guided Nessie to the bar and they stood for a while, looking around.

"Are we gonna order something?" Nessie asked him, grabbing his attention. She'd never really had a drink before, just a sip or two of vodka at a friend's house party. She was too scared of it and what it might do to her, but if Nahuel drank she'd give it a try.

He was looking around before answering her. "I don't know, do you want something?" Nessie had no time to think about his question before they were approached by a waitress. She spoke Spanish to them, which Nessie could understand.

"I was beginning to think I'd never see you again". She said fluently, smiling at Nahuel. Oh, Nessie thought, this is her. Nahuel laughed and proceeded to put his arms around her and squeeze her tightly.

"Naya, it's great to see you." He said in an enthusiastic voice Nessie hadn't heard before. They traded a few more words, all in Spanish, before Naya turned her attention to Nessie.

"And who are you?" She asked her with a grin. Nessie had taken the opportunity to really look at her when she was talking to Nahuel before and decided she was completely intimidated. Naya was both entirely and not at all what she had envisioned her to be. She was very short and had an overall small frame, beautiful sleek black hair that cascaded down her back, native features with slightly slanted dark red eyes and worse of all, a chest that seemed way too big for her frame. She was gorgeous, to say the least.

"I'm Renesmee, nice to meet you". Nessie replied, her Spanish not as natural as theirs.

"Nice to meet you, too". Naya's smile didn't falter as she studied Nessie for a second before turning her attention back to Nahuel. "I hope you're both here to have a drink. We definitely need to catch up with each other".

Nahuel smiled at her. "How is it that you're working in a place like this around so many humans?" He asked.

Naya laughed and it was a beautiful, feminine sound. "Well I applied for it, of course!" She said. "I get to be with as many people as I want without drawing attention to myself because most of them are drunk. It works beautifully."

Nahuel 's eyebrows rose in amusement. "Well, if it makes you happy I suppose it does work." Naya nudged him playfully and giggled again. Nessie had to look away for a moment to avoid giving her a straight glare. If this was what jealousy felt like, it sucked.

"So, Renesmee-" Naya started.

"Nessie." Nahuel interjected, earning a strange look from her which Nessie didn't miss.

"Yes, Nessie. Where are you from? You don't look Latin." She asked.

"Well, I'm not." Nessie replied, her voice a bit harsh. She cleared her throat to mask her attitude. "I'm from America, I live in Alaska".

Naya seemed extremely surprised at this information. "Alaska?" She repeated, incredulous. "What an earth brought you all the way down here?"

"She travelled all through America and ended up finding me in Brazil." Nahuel answered for her. "I convinced her to take me along her journey." He was leaning back against the bar, with his elbows propped up by his sides. He seemed completely at ease in such a strange setting. It made Nessie wonder how many times he'd been at a bar and how many of those times had Naya been with him.

"Interesting". Naya mused. "Well, I want to hear all about how you two met, but first I think I should do my job and get you drinks on the house. It is happy hour, after all."

She ended up giving them some fruity cocktails that looked pretty harmless in comparison to other things people were drinking there. Nahuel sipped his every once in a while, so Nessie decided it was safe to give it a try and ended up really liking it. She thought she'd get drunk pretty quickly but discovered the alcohol didn't seem to be having an effect on her at all.

Naya's shift was over a couple of hours after they arrived, so she just ended up sitting at the bar with them. She seemed to want to know everything about Nessie that she could find out, for some reason she seemed fascinated by her. Nessie gave her as many answers as she could without giving away too much and Nahuel offered some information of his own that she had no idea about. Like the fact that he had friends in many different countries, not all of them vampires. And also that he was apparently a really good dancer.

"He hasn't taken you dancing?" Naya said as if it was the most ridiculous thing she'd ever heard. "Why haven't you?" She asked him.

Nahuel rolled his eyes at her. "There hasn't been an opportunity".

Naya nodded and stood up from her seat. "Alright, the opportunity is now". She said. "Nessie and I will get ready and you can do whatever and after that we're going to the club". Nessie wasn't sure if her Spanish was right but somehow she found herself being led out of the bar by Naya and towards an alleyway that led to a small street with various two story buildings.

"Uhm, where are we?" She asked, completely confused.

"On the way to my apartment, of course". Naya replied. She acted like the whole situation was normal, making Nessie more and more confused. She'd always been under the impression that vampires who fed on human weren't capable of keeping any sort of domestic residence, let alone a job.

They went into one of the buildings and went up the stairs to a door at the end of a hallway. Naya took out a key from her pocket and opened the door for them, turning on the light as she walked in. Nessie hesitated at the door a bit before stepping in and taking a look around. The place was really small and seemed to have only the basic necessities: a kitchen, a living room and a hallway with two doors, which Nessie assumed were the bathroom and bedroom. Not a lot of furniture, but what was there seemed to be mismatched in sort of an eclectic fashion. Nessie set down Nahuel's bag, which he had given to her before Naya dragged her to the apartment, on a couch that was pushed up against a wall in the living room area.

"It's not much, but it's all I need." Naya said, opening the door to her bedroom and walking in. "Do you mind wearing one of my dresses?" She called from inside the bedroom.

Nessie shook her head in disbelief. She really couldn't believe she was playing dress up with a woman she'd met just a couple hours before, who seemed to know everything about Nahuel. "Uh, no I don't mind."

Naya poked her head out. "I have a few things that are a bit long on me but you look tall enough". She said. "I would put you in something red, but maybe another color would be better with your hair". She touched her index finger to her lips, thinking. "Nahuel loves green; I think I have a dress that will work".

Nessie wondered why Naya was mentioning Nahuel's color preference and if he liked the color green, which one of them was she getting the dress for? Naya came out of the room holding a low cut flowy green dress and showed it to her. "It's pretty". Nessie commented. "I'm sure it'll look great on you".

"On me? It's for you!" Naya replied. "You're the one who needs to look fantastic tonight".

Nessie's perplexed state must have been way obvious as Naya handed her the dress to try on, because she offered her a smile and told her to relax. "You can trust me; I know what I'm doing".

"I just don't know what you mean". Nessie said. "Why are you doing this for me?"

Naya shrugged. "Because if Nahuel brought you here, you must be important and whoever is important to him is important to me." She explained. "Now go try it on while I get dressed".

The dress ended up fitting Nessie pretty well, although it was probably designed for somebody with a bigger chest than hers because the cut was pretty low but Naya assured her it looked great. The hem came to about a third of the way down her thighs and swooshed every time she turned. Naya wore a simple black skirt with ruffles with a strappy blue top that accentuated her curves. Nessie opted for her good old converse because Naya's shoes didn't fit her and also because she felt more like herself in them. She wasn't opposed to the idea of dresses and skirts, but the tomboy inside her usually made her opt for a mixture of feminine and boyish.

They met up with Nahuel close to the bar they'd been at earlier and started following Naya's lead to a nightclub. Apparently they were going somewhere that specialized in salsa music, which Nessie had only danced to a couple of times during the first leg of her trip. It was a bit intimidating, but she didn't mention it to her companions.

"You look good, Nessie". He said in her ear after they'd been walking for a bit, making her blush and smile shyly.

The loud music was noticeable from a block away before they got to the entrance of the club. It was packed with people, both inside and outside. They approached the bouncer, who seemed to know Naya, and he let them in without a hiccup. Those kinds of things still shocked Nessie whenever she realized people could never guess her real age by just looking at her appearance. They went up to the bar and Nahuel ordered drinks for himself and her, since Naya obviously had no interest in human beverages. They watched people dance for a bit and Nessie tried to memorize some of the steps she kept seeing people repeat so she wouldn't make a fool out of herself later. She had always been a good dancer, but Latin rhythms weren't really part of her expertise.

After a little while, Naya pulled Nahuel to the dance floor because a song she liked had come up. Nessie was left alone at the bar and she proceeded to finish her drink and look around. The place really was packed, but somehow there was enough space left for a good number of couples to dance without bumping into each other.

"Excuse me, miss. This was sent to you by the gentleman across the room." A bartender tapped Nessie's shoulder and handed her another one of the drinks she had just finished. He pointed to where the man in question was standing next to a tall round table he was leaning on. He seemed to be in his 30s. He winked at her and she smiled politely. Nessie wasn't too keen on accepting gifts from strangers, but in this setting that seemed like a pretty normal thing to do. She started sipping her drink and went back to trying to find Nahuel and Naya with her eyes.

They were almost in the middle of the dance floor and even though there were a good amount of couples around them, they stood out. Nessie almost couldn't believe her eyes as she watched Nahuel move swiftly in tune with the music, twirling and turning Naya with complex moves. The most impressive thing, however, was the huge smile he had on his face the whole time. Nessie hadn't seen him smile that much in the entire time they'd been together; she didn't think he was even capable of having that much fun. But he was. And he was having all of that fun about 50 meters away with a beautiful Latin woman she'd never heard of before until earlier that same day.

She was about to sigh for the millionth time when suddenly she felt eyes on her. She turned her head in time to see a man sit next to her at the bar. The same man who'd sent her the drink.

"Hello beautiful". Said the man, in Spanish. "Why are you sitting here all alone?"

Nessie gave him a small smile. "Hello, I'm not alone. I'm with my friends." She replied.

The man raised his eyebrows. "You speak Spanish?" He said, surprised. "I thought I would have to practice some English to talk to you. Where are you from? Europe?"

"America." She said, shortly.

"Oh, that's great. Where in America are you from?" He asked. "Excuse me, I haven't introduced myself. I'm Alfredo." He offered her his hand to shake. Nessie shook his hand firmly and dropped it immediately.

"Nice to meet you, Alfredo." She said, turning her gaze back to the dance floor. Nahuel was turning Naya again and people were cheering them on.

"Aren't you going to tell me your name?" Alfredo asked, pulling her attention back to him.

"Nessie." She replied, not bothering to give him her full name. He probably wouldn't be able to pronounce it, anyway.

"Nessie? What a beautiful name." He said. "Well tell me more about yourself, Nessie. How long have you been in Peru?"

Nessie stared at him for a second, her polite smile still on her face. She really didn't want to do this right now, but he was effectively distracting her from the spectacle she was witnessing going on a few feet away. "I just got here today. It's lovely."

"Wow, your Spanish is fantastic for an American." Alfredo complimented her. "So, tell me. How old are you, Nessie?"

"I'm 8." She responded, automatically. It was her favorite way to joke with people she'd just met because it wasn't a joke at all but people still thought it was hilarious. He laughed, proving her point.

"You mean 18?" He said.

"No I meant 8 but sure, I can be 18." Nessie replied sarcastically. The man laughed again and she chuckled once.

"Are you always this mysterious?" Alfredo asked. "Or are you only like that with older men that try to talk to you at bars?"

"I'm not really mysterious with older men at bars." She said. "I save that for the women."

The man's smile faltered at that, but before he could say anything else the conversation was interrupted by Naya. She wedged herself between Nessie and Alfredo, effectively cutting the socializing short.

"What do you think?" She asked Nessie, gesturing to the air around them. "Isn't it great?"

Nessie smiled at her, but her face felt a bit tight. "Yeah, it's great." She replied. "Where's Nahuel?"

Naya waved her hand dismissively. "He went outside for a moment, but I wanted to talk to you." She said. The music was loud enough to drown her voice almost completely, but to them it was just as easy to have a conversation there or in a quiet room.

"Sure, what's going on?" Nessie asked, her curiosity spiking.

"What's happening with you and Nahuel?" She asked. Nessie wasn't expecting that, but at the same time she kind of was. Naya definitely had to have a thing for Nahuel and he showing up with a girl must have worried her.

Nessie didn't feel like she was in the position to get in the middle of them, so she just kept it simple. "Nothing. We met a few years ago and bumped into each other here."

"Yeah yeah, you already said that." Naya waved her off. "I mean, what's really going on between you two?"

Nessie didn't know what to answer. In reality, nothing was going on, but sometimes she thought there was so she wasn't exactly sure. "Uh, nothing's happened really."

Naya narrowed her eyes at her. "Okay." She said, hopping onto the stool since Alfredo had finally taken off. "Let's start over. What do you want to happen between you two?"

Nessie was confused. If Naya wanted Nahuel to herself, why was she giving her such a hard time? All she had to do was take him, he was right there. "Look, I'm not trying to get in the middle of anything here."

It was Naya's turn to look confused. "In the middle?" She repeated. "In the middle of what? Nahuel and I?"

Nessie hesitated. "Uh, yeah."

Naya blinked at her a couple of times and then threw her head back and laughed. "Oh lord, why would you think he and I are together? That ended decades ago!"

Nessie stared at her. It had ended decades ago, meaning they had been together before. Did that mean she was the girl Nahuel had told her about? The one he loved but had to leave because they were different? Nessie felt sick. She didn't know if it was possible for her to feel sick, but she was.

"Listen to me." Naya said, grabbing her hand and squeezing it softly. "There's nothing between me and Nahuel anymore. We've found each other again at times but we realized our relationship works best as just friends."

Nessie didn't want to think about what she was saying too much, but Naya's words sounded sincere. She was telling the truth, the question was: why was she telling her all this?

"Okay." Nessie agreed. "I believe you." Naya smiled again, softer this time.

"Give him time." She said. "He's very guarded with his thoughts, but his heart always gives him away."

"I'm not saying I'm waiting for him to do anything." Nessie said, trying to avoid saying too much.

Naya's smile grew wider and mischievous as she leaned in closer. "But you want him." Nessie held her gaze, but was wildly looking for ways to change the subject in her mind. This was not a conversation she wanted to have with Nahuel's ex. Naya's posture relaxed and she leaned back in her seat. "Give him time, he'll come around."

Nessie couldn't help herself. "Why are you talking to me about this?" She blurted out.

"Because as much as I love my friend, he needs as much help as possible when it comes to women." Naya replied. "You seem like a good girl and he deserves someone like that."

Nessie looked away, feeling pang of guilt in her chest. Naya was just looking out for her friend and here she was, being all bitter towards her. "You don't know if I'm good or not". She said.

"You are." Naya replied, matter-of-factly. "And you might even deserve someone like him."

Nessie smiled at her, more genuinely this time. "You say that like he's the best thing out there." She said jokingly.

"Well, he is!" Naya said. "I know what it's like to be loved by him and it really is the best thing you can imagine."

Nessie was confused again. "Why didn't you stay with him, then?"

Naya rolled her eyes and sighed. "Because I couldn't love him the way he needs to be loved. The way he deserves to be." She explained. "I don't know if that has to be you, or if someone else out there is right for him, but I know him so well. I know the look on his face when he sees you, the tone his voice takes when he speaks to you or about you. It really is remarkable."

Nessie was absolutely struck by what she was hearing. She never noticed any of the things Naya was talking about; yet again she'd only been with Nahuel by herself, so she had nothing to compare it to.

"You think his voice changes?" Nessie asked. "I've really never noticed any of that."

Naya giggled in that attractive way she had before. "His everything changes". She said. "But don't tell him I said that. He'd kill me." She giggled again.

"I won't say a word, trust me." Nessie replied. "By the way, thank you for saving me. I didn't know how to tell that man to go away."

Naya rolled her eyes and waved her off. "It's no problem, really." She said. "I knew something like that would happen if we left you alone."

They talked a bit more at the bar and as the seconds went by, Nessie discovered she really liked Naya. She could absolutely understand why she was Nahuel's best friend, she was amazing. It worried her, though. Naya was great and Nahuel had been in love with her for a really long time, maybe he still was. Naya had made it her mission to make Nessie believe Nahuel had feelings for her, but maybe that's just all it was, maybe it was all Naya's idea.

Nahuel pushed through the crowd and came up to them not much longer after that. He smelled like himself, but Nessie detected a hint of smoke that she wasn't too familiar with so she just dismissed it and smiled shyly at him. He smiled back.

"Are you having fun?" He asked her.

"Yeah, I am." Nessie replied, getting lost in the gold speck that danced in Nahuel's irises.

Naya hopped off the high chair she was sitting on. "Alright, I'm gonna go find someone to dance with." She stated and disappeared into the crowd, leaving Nahuel and Nessie behind.

"Is she really a vampire?" Nessie asked him. "Cause she definitely doesn't act like one."

Nahuel chuckled. "Yes, she really is a vampire." He replied, in English this time. "A very under control vampire, I would say."

"We're back to English?" Nessie said. "I was really enjoying my terrible accent."

"Your accent is not terrible." Nahuel assured her. "But I do like to practice mine with you." Nessie giggled, but it didn't sound flirty like Naya. Nahuel offered her his hand and motioned to the dance floor with his head.

Nessie stared at his hand. "What?" She asked. He raised his eyebrows at her. "You wanna dance? I can't do what you guys were doing back there."

"I'm not asking you to do that, I'm asking you to dance with me." Nahuel replied. "The purpose of us coming here tonight was that, wasn't it?"

Nessie sighed in defeat. "Yep, I guess it was." She grabbed Nahuel's hand and let him pull her into the crowd of people until they were dead center on the dance floor. "Take it easy on me; I've never done this before." It wasn't entirely true, she had danced Latin music before but not exactly salsa.

Nahuel smirked at her. "I will". He said and then they started moving in tune with the music until they found their pace. It really wasn't as hard as Nessie had imagined. Nahuel was a fantastic lead, all she had to do was follow him and suddenly she found herself twirling around and moving in ways she never thought she could. And they were close, really close. She could feel his breath on her neck and his body against hers and it felt incredible. She felt hot, but it had nothing to do with the temperature inside the club, she wasn't affected by those kinds of things, but she was affected by him.

They must have danced to at least 4 or 5 songs until something with a slower pace came on. People slowed down and started moving more sensually against one another. Nessie stepped back from Nahuel, just enough to let air pass between them so she could evaluate his reaction. She was expecting him to lead her off the dance floor, but instead he pulled her against him. His hands found their way to her hips and her lower back and he pressed his forehead to hers.

Nessie felt herself start to shake again as she raised her hands to hook them around Nahuel's neck. She closed her eyes and tried to follow his lead. The way he was moving against her was driving her crazy, she couldn't believe he'd do something like that; it was like he was a completely different person all of a sudden, like he wasn't afraid of getting close to her or something. His breath tickled her face and she smelled smoke again. What was that? She thought to herself, but couldn't concentrate enough to really think about it. Her brain didn't seem to be working too well at the moment, and she didn't really care.

The song was almost over and as the last few chords rung out, Nahuel stopped moving them until they were standing still amongst the crowd. He pulled back enough so he could look at Nessie. Just as he opened his mouth to say something, Naya materialized next to them out of nowhere.

"Hello, sorry to interrupt." She said in a rushed voice. "I just wanted to give you my key because I'm not going home after this, I'll see you tomorrow." She pressed a key into Nessie's palm and waved them goodbye. She left just as quickly as she'd appeared.

"Where is she going?" Nessie asked Nahuel, holding the key between them.

Nahuel shrugged. "Maybe it's best if we don't ask that question". He said slowly, taking the key from Nessie's hand and pocketing it. "Do you want to leave?"

Nessie paused, not sure what to say. "Uh, if you want to." She responded.

Nahuel smiled and grabbed her hand. He guided her through the crowd until they were outside, but didn't let go of her hand. They started walking back in the direction they came from earlier, back to Naya's apartment building.

"Did you have a good time?" He asked her. They were walking at a human pace, just enjoying each other's company.

Nessie nodded at him. "Yeah, I did." She said. "You know, you really are full of surprises."

"I am?" Nahuel replied.

"Yeah." Nessie said. "I never would have guessed you'd be a dancer. But, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. You seem to be good at everything."

Nahuel laughed a bit at that. "Well, you lied to me." He said. Nessie's eyebrows drew together in confusion. "You said you'd never done that before but it wasn't true."

Nessie laughed. "Well, it wasn't a complete lie." She explained. "I've danced Latin music before, but never salsa. That really was new to me."

"I see." He said. "Well you're really good at it."

"I am?" She said.

"For an American, yes." Nahuel teased. Nessie feigned offence and scoffed at him.

They kept walking at the same pace, making small talk. Nessie must've glanced at their joined hands one too many times, because Nahuel suddenly let go of her hand when they were getting close to Naya's building.

"I'm sorry." He said.

Nessie shook her head lightly. "No need to be sorry." She assured him and smiled. They made their way up the stairs and Nahuel took Naya's key out of his pocket, but didn't open the door, instead he turned it over and over in his fingers.

"I'm glad we came here today." He said, looking at his hands.

"Yeah, me too." Nessie replied. "I haven't had this much fun in a long time." She paused before adding, "Naya's really great, I'm glad I got to meet her."

Nahuel smiled at his hands and looked up, catching her gaze. "She really likes you, too."

Nessie smiled at him. "Should we go inside?" She asked. "I'm not sure if she has somewhere we can sleep, but if not I'll take the smaller couch."

Nahuel smiled at her and held out the key for her to take. "You can go." He said. "I think I'm going to walk around some more tonight."

Nessie took the key and stared at him. "Okay." She said. She had a feeling he didn't want to be in there alone with her but she couldn't imagine why. "I guess I'll see you later, then."

She turned around and put the key in the lock, but before she could push the door open, Nahuel pulled it back shut. Nessie spun around quickly to ask him what was wrong, but he was too close for her to do that. He was pressed up against her, their faces inches apart.

Everything seemed to slow down. Nessie could hear herself breathe in her own head and she noticed the air around them change density as a thin rain started to fall. Nahuel's breath tickled her face and his faint smile disappeared. He let go of the doorknob and ran his fingertips along Nessie's arm, starting at her wrist and ending at her shoulder. His heartbeat filled Nessie's ears, mixing in with the beat drum of her own pulse. Nahuel's eyes searched hers for a second and he leaned in, brushing his lips against hers.

Nessie gasped in surprise, making him smile against her. Nahuel pulled back just enough to look at her and then pressed his lips more firmly to hers, more sure of himself. Nessie's eyes fluttered closed and she grabbed his shirt, unsure what else to do. His hands found her hips and he pressed her body more firmly against his, deepening the kiss. Nessie could feel the door on her back, holding her steady.

Just as quickly as it had started, the kiss was over. Nahuel pulled back, touching his forehead to hers. Both of them were breathing heavily and Nessie felt herself blush. She was flustered and ecstatic at the same time. She smiled softly, not wanting to open her eyes yet.

Nahuel finally pulled back completely, grabbing Nessie's hand and squeezing it lightly. He smiled at her and let go as he started walking back. "Good night, Renesmee." He said, his voice sounding throaty. He walked back a few more steps and turned around to leave.

"Good night." Nessie replied, her voice just above a whisper.

Nahuel looked at her over his shoulder with a smile and turned the corner towards the stairs.

Nessie pressed her hand against her chest and tried to catch her breath. They had just kissed.

A/N: Okayyy, so this is not exactly how I'd envisioned the first kiss in my head, but as I wrote the chapter it sort of wrote itself this way and I'm not mad about it. I am super duper tired and sleepy at the time I'm posting this, so excuse any typos you might find in here. I wanted to double check before publishing but I just needed to get this out there. This story has been with me for way too long and I need to put more of it out there.

See you next time and don't forget to leave me a review! I got a couple really good ones on the last chapter and it made me so excited that I had to post another chapter ASAP.

Bye!
