Longer nights and bare trees change the presence of the lands in the past few months. A warm mist leaves her lips as she breaths searching for food.
"Kaede was right, I should have prepared before winter." Rin travels further from the village in search of deer.
Meanwhile, Jaken is concealed deep within his thoughts resting on a tree stump with his fist under his chin; Me Lord is finally building his empire but at what cost. I've been dreaming for this day to become Chief Minister but slaying our kind for it, what is he thinking? I know he thinks every demon is beneath him but isn't this going too far? Honestly, forcing me to kill our own is cruel. Even for him. Or not. Maybe that human child made us soft; Jaken continues to be lost in thought.
Rin continues to travel through the woods when suddenly she hears a voice not far from her. She follows the voice through the trees and into an open area seeing a demon sitting on a tree stump. She hid behind a thick fallen tree positioning her arrow to take the shot.
If I don't take him down now, he will get me later; She thought.
Jaken continues to ponder as he notices a still flower peeking out of the snow and bends down to grab it. He felt a swift wind pass over his head and jump up cautiously looking around.
"Dang it." Rin whispers to herself. She shows her face to the demon. "Leave now and I will spare your life." she demanded.
"Wench! Do you know who I am!" He fussed jumping up and down.
"Jaken, is that you?" Rin beamed a smile.
"Oh, well, I guess you do know who I am and you better!" He continues to fuss.
"It's me, Jaken, Rin!" Holding back her tears.
"Rin?" Jaken knows the name but not the face. He scans her body to find a clue that it's her. "Is it you? You look different." Jaken still steps back unsure. A figure caught his attention from behind her and saw A-UN. "It must be you, you have A-UN. Wait. That's where he's been hiding this entire time." Jaken frowned.
"Yes he is the only one that cares for me." She made a snarky remark and Jaken's jaw dropped. But then she shy away and changed the subject. "Why are you in the middle of the woods alone?"
"Because Lord Sesshomaru left me behind to slay demons. He claims it's best to cover more ground." He grumbled in frustration. Rin squatted to Jaken eye level.
"But aren't you a demon?" She gave a quizzical look.
"Don't remind me, and what business do you have here?" He wondered. Rin straightens herself scanning the woods.
"I'm hunting for deer. I've waited too long to hunt them and I assume they travel further out, looking for food." She said in a worried tone.
"Wow Rin, I never thought I'd see the day." Jaken seems surprised.
"Yes well, I have to survive right?" She grinned.
"Right." Jaken face grew long.
"What's wrong Jaken?" She wondered.
"Are you upset about what happened after Naraku?"
Rin was trying to avoid the elephant in the room but in some ways, she knew it would eventually come up. She doesn't give him a straight answer.
"None of that matters now."
"I see. Well, do you mind if I accompany you? I want to see your skill, plus I'm lonely." He admitted and Rin giggled.
"Sure Jaken." She accepted.
"Let's go A-UN." she ordered and they flew away.
