Author's Note: I felt the need to give a heads up. There is anywhere between 4 to 6 chapters left in this story. And I will be seriously deviating from the storyline. This is your only warning. So, if you have issues with the canon being broken, please be respectful, understand this is Fanfiction (written by a fan of the show/manga) and done to my needs and wants. I ask that you just stop reading because it is rude to leave mean, nasty reviews because you don't like something an author has done. Also, that I write with realistic twist to my plot. Kagome was constant kidnapped, and when it was aired as an anime in the USA it was heavily edited from what was in the Manga. So, I am keeping true with Kagome having issues after several traumatic experiences. So if you do not like that, I politely ask you toturn around and leave now. Because I don't see the point in you wasting your time and mine.
Levy lifted his eyes from the paperwork on his desk to his door. It had been just over a week since they rescued Jaeger and Kagome. The boy had bounced back, the woman not so much. Then again, he had seen things like this before when he was young and lived underground — the trauma from specific incidents or events of a particular nature. It was often referred to as a living, continuous trauma because it could be triggered.
And right now, he wished Kagome would go back to the way she was before being kidnapped. Then again, when he got his hands on Bertholdt and Reiner, he'd find a way to extract more information from them. Because he was appalled at what they'd told Eren that Kagome's purpose would be. Nothing more than breeding chattel. Though the fact that the Titans (who were self-aware) could sense Kagome as she could them was problematic.
Said woman he was aware was currently walking the hallways right now at two in the morning. Eren was on watch for her since they both slept in cells below. He stated that she had been having multiple nightmares, and it was making her Reiki flare. Of course, it didn't help matters that she was forcing herself to stay awake.
Shitty specs had told them that until Kagome found a place she felt safe and secure to start to heal and sleep, they'd have to deal. It was not the best solution, but her constant pacing didn't help him focus, and he had reported to finish with vital information for Erwin. They'd been doing a lot more digging into things since the kidnapping and had found out stuff he was sure the Nobles and Leaders of the Military didn't want to be known. Treading carefully was paramount to survival now.
The soft knock on the door had Levy narrowing his eyes as he called out enter. It took a few long minutes before he heard the soft click of the knob being turned before it opened. Levy was not surprised to see Kagome standing there looking pale and with a haunted look in her eyes. He knew that trying to speak to her would send her running and hiding, so Levy lifted his hand and pointed to the two-seater against the wall. Then he turned his attention back to his work.
He kept track of the progress she made across the floor, the soft shuffling of her slippered feet. The soft creak the two-seater made when she sat on it, to the sound of the slippers hitting the floor because she knew he'd come unglued to have something filthy on his furniture, when she said nothing or made any more movements Levy focused back on his work, deciding that this was fine for the moment.
The first rays of the pre-dawn had Levy pausing in what he was writing and looking at his guest. Kagome had curled up in the far corner of his couch, the single pillow he kept on it between her head and the backrest, legs pulled up, so her chin rested on her knees. But it was the fact that the woman was asleep, her face partially visible through the thick fall of her hair. Levy knew he should get a few hours in the bedroom attached to his office before he had to run his unit through their training to keep them in top shape.
Standing and feeling his muscles and joints pop in protest, he walked over to the couch. Staring down at Kagome, seeing her in an actual state of rest that wasn't being knocked out by him, Levy realized she didn't look much older than a teen. Yet there were little tell lines at the corners of her eyes and mouth that said she had seen plenty of stress in her life. More than she had told them, he was sure.
Knowing the position she was in was not conducive to good sleep and would cramp her muscles worse than his felt now, and wanted to avoid a lecture from Shitty specs and Erwin later, decided to be helpful. Slipping his hand carefully between the pillow and the couch and wrapped his other hand around Kagome's ankles. A move he had performed before on his mother when she had gotten weak from her sickness. Then with a quick tug and pull, he shifted her to laying on the two-seater.
Removing his hands, he looked at the way her body was tensing then relaxing further. Her hair no longer obscuring her face showing the shadows under her eyes and how gaunt she looked from the stress of the nightmares and lack of sleep and eating had done. Curling his lip in disgust, Levy grabbed the small blanket he kept on the back of the couch and placed it over her. He knew she was stronger than this.
Figuring his act of kindness was done, he made his way to his room. Closing the door softly behind him and pausing. He looked at his hand that had grabbed the woman's ankles. They were much smaller than he had thought, yet he felt the muscle that was there. It explained in part of how her kicks hurt when they sparred with weapons.
Hange was in a panic as she stood before Commander Erwin blocking him from entering the Infirmary. A smile on her face as she tried to act nonchalant.
"Hange, let me into the room," Erwin stated.
"Sir? There are sick and wounded here sleeping still," She said as politely as she could.
The way those blue eyes looked at her told her that he wasn't buying her excuse. The man had placed Kagome under her charge, and sometime during the night, the damn woman had vanished while she slept. But that wasn't unheard of recently. What the problem was that Kagome hadn't come back, she had no clue where her temporary charge was, and Erwin wanted to see her with his own eyes.
Hange, is there something you want to tell me?" Erwin asked.
She quickly weighed the pros and cons of continuing to stall and just telling him. Right now, she would rather deal with the sour puss Levy than Erwin, right now. Hange knew that she had failed in her task, and that was something she didn't want to admit to. Not one of the few people she respected and admired.
"She won't let you in because the woman isn't in the Infirmary, Commander Erwin."
Hange had to fight to repress a violent twitch. Her eyes were darting away from Erwins to look at who had spoken — seeing Armin standing there with a smile on his face and a mischievous twinkle in his eyes.
"Explain Armin," Erwin commanded.
Hange pointedly kept her eyes on Armin when she felt the heavy gaze on her.
"I went with Eren, as per the schedule, so that he could report in with Captain Levi. When we opened the door after no response, Kagome as sound asleep on the Captain's two-seater under the blanket he keeps on the back of it." Armin explained.
Unable to help herself, Hange let her jaw drop open, completely flabbergasted. A few days ago, she had told them all (with Kagome in attendance) that the only way Kagome will begin to heal is if she could find a place she felt safe and secure to start to relax enough to heal, and possibly sleep. But to hear that place could even potentially be the one person who aggravated Kagome the most was beyond what her mind was able to comprehend.
Erwin was stunned as he began to chuckle, unable to stay annoyed at Hange and her failed attempts to deflect him from entering the Infirmary to check on Kagome's current state. Though this was rather interesting information. And knowing that if Levy hadn't been in the office to tell Eren to enter, he was in his room sleeping, having probably stayed up until near dawn.
And he was well aware of the importance of that blanket on the back of that little couch. The fact Armin was clear in stating that Kagome was covered in it told him that Levi probably put it on her. He knew for a fact that when Eren had started to clean Levy's office and Kagome as well.
"I will talk with you later about insubordination, Hange. But right now, I have to see for myself," he said.
Not waiting for an answer, Erwin spun on the ball of one foot and marched at a semi-sedate pace down the hall. He wanted to get a chance to have more material to blackmail his friend with. That and to see proof that Kagome was sleeping and of all places in Levi's office. It spoke volumes that she trusted his Captain's character. Even if the two were like water and oil. Often their clashes annoyed him to no end, just as much as it gave him amusement.
The harsh, hushed words caused her to open her eyes. The world a blurred wash of mixed colors. She felt like she was waking from a long dream, and her mind was sluggish. Slowly she blinked her eyes to try and clear them, only to see cloth that was a familiar faded red color. Carefully she shifted her head, feeling her neck protest at the movement, telling her that she had slept in an awkward position for a period of time.
Suddenly she felt confused. When did she go to sleep? How did she feel rested? Why did she feel rested? But most importantly, where if the living hells was she?
"I do not see what is so damn amusing. Kagome came knocking this morning and fell asleep."
"Yeah, well, it says a lot. You are very trusted."
"And how do you figure that? Our relationship is tenuous at best, Erwin."
The name sounded familiar to her. Thinking on it, her mind conjured pale, icy blue eyes under blond hair. The other voice stirred in her feelings of annoyance and amusement. With each new realization and recognition, she became more and more aware through the fog of her mind.
Again Erwin and the other person's words filtered into her thoughts. As she listened, she gave a loud snort. The silence that followed let her know that we're aware she was awake now. Moving, Kagome pulled down the blanket and flinched at how bright the room was.
"You two are loud... Why am I here? How did I get here? What day is it?" Kagome asked as she opened her eyes again.
The look the two men gave her were very different. But both had her fighting to keep a smile from her face.
