XXXVII
We don't utter a single word for the two hours it takes us to get to my house.
It's dark.
Charlie's gone again.
I unlock the front door and Edward follows me inside.
I don't turn on the light, just turn to face him.
He's already looking at me, his hood down.
The streetlights fill my hall with lines of white, and one runs diagonally across his face.
I can see a glitter of green and the pink of his mouth, the rest is surrounded by shadow.
We stare at each other and the room seems to shrink, something thrumming in the air between us.
My breaths become quicker and quicker, a heavy feeling building between my legs.
I can see Edward's chest, rising and falling at the same speed as mine, that one sliver of his green eye darkening.
I deserve this.
I deserve to touch him, to feel his skin against mine.
Edward steps closer to me and I back up, my hands resting against the wall.
He pauses for a second, his jaw tight.
The light shows me both his eyes now.
That deep, forest green, burns for me.
He steps forwards again and places his hands on the wall either side of me.
My back arches towards him but I don't move, and neither does he.
I can feel the heat of his body.
I want him.
He's close enough to make out every feature now, his beautiful mouth parted, jaw tight, eyes hooded.
'Kiss me.' I murmur, tilting my head to the side as I stare at him.
His gaze drops to my mouth and I hear his breath catch.
'No.'
