I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack! Jazz hands

Told ya I wouldn't stop writing this story! I still love it, my interests just change over time, and sometimes I need a break. Well, actually a year and a half is more than a break. As you may expect by now, I can get distracted with stuff like video games. College has also been a real pain for me, as I have been taking some really tough classes that have utterly devoured my free time. To give an idea as to how busy it's kept me, my college closes at 9 during Monday-Thursday, and I usually head in during the early to late morning. The first four days of last week, I have stayed at my college literally ALL day, barely keeping pace with my classes.

Good news is that I have less pressure on me to get a paying job, as college has taken so much dedication on my part to stay on top of it and do my best on my classes.

It has come to my attention that some think that my characters are too human, as well as not quite understanding the communication (or lack there of) between humans and velociraptors.

I'm really thankful that not too many people reacted negatively to Kenny eating that other human. That was something I was wondering how to do, and I figured that with what I have established about Kenny, that him eating another human would give off the creepy vibe that he's not exactly normal in a biological sense.

I'll get to the thing about my dinosaurs being human-like at the end of this chapter, but I wanted to clarify something about the communication between humans and velociraptors (and dinosaurs in general).

In the last chapter, Barry couldn't understand what the velociraptors were saying. He can probably guess because he helped raise them alongside Owen, and spends a good amount of time around them, so he has become used to their body language and sounds. I guess it can be kind of like how you know a dog wants attention or to play with you when they whine at you while you're trying to work.

Kenny is different. Even before he got the translator from Yumi, he still had a much better time understanding dinosaurs than any other human. Take the scene where he was talking with Rexy after freeing her from that building she accidentally trapped herself in for example. He doesn't understand exactly, but he has a really damn good idea, much better than other humans, who have none. I'll explain more in a future chapter.

As for this chapter right here, we're going to be stepping away from Isla Nublar for the time being (just this chapter for now).

I worked on this chapter with a friend who asked for his OCs to be included, and while our initial plans fell through because I already had the main characters in here written and couldn't find a place for them, inspiration struck me. It happened when he asked me if I could include a different one in here, and I initially couldn't figure out a way to put her in, I immediately remembered an existing character from one of the movies, and decided to make that girl his OC!

Ladies and gentlemen, from ShurikanReborn: AURORA!

P.S! WARNING! This chapter does have some pretty intense gore in it. While I don't consider it to be close to the extent that I had in the last chapter, it's still pretty devastating to the character that it affects. Also, it occurs right in the beginning of the chapter, if you scroll down slowly, it occurs right after a character says "KILL THEM!". Said quote is also in bold in the story, so after that is where the "gore" begins.

P.S.S. There is also some heavily romantic stuff in the beginning too. Its pretty much sex, just without all of the explicit stuff. I didn't feel comfortable going into detail describing characters doing that stuff at the beginning of the chapter. Also, I haven't introduced these characters before, so I couldn't really "get into character" so to speak.

[May 4th, 1998]

Near Cuyamaca Rancho State Park]

"[R-Rose… are… are you sure that…. uhhh that... we s-sh-hould really b-b-b-be doing this?]" I ask, a bright red blush easily standing out against the green scales that covered my snout.

"[Yes Kead, I'm sure, fully and completely.]" You answered me as you nuzzled my maw, the bright crimson scales on yours rubbing against mine. "[I have been thinking about this for the past couple of years, and I wouldn't be considering this now if I didn't truly love you.]"

"[But w-wh-hat if we get c-caught?]" I worried, looking down at you with my beaming yellow eyes, and into your soothing red ones. Although my voice was breaking up with a perpetual stutter in this situation, the twinkle in my eyes showed a sense of excitement that betrayed my nervous feelings.

"[I've thought about the consequences, and I have decided that my love for you rises above all of them.]" You said with a very sweet smile on your face, and it was one that just made my heart swell with a burning love for the Utahraptor before me.

"[Oh fuck it, if we get in trouble for this, then we'll deal with the consequences together.]" I croon and pounce on you, which you were already prepared for and hoping that I would do. "[I love you so very much Rose, nothing can take that away from us, nothing.]"

"[Well then, take me my sweet fisher, because your catch is right here, and she's a strong one~]" You teased with a firm lick on my neck, sending an excited shiver down my spine and to the tip of my tail.

You shouldn't have said those words, because you just poured the gasoline on the blazing love and lust that I held for you, and I took you then and there. Growls and soft roars/chirps escaped our maws as our scales rubbed against each other, fresh and invigorating scents leaking into the air that only fueled our lust. A loud growl and a blissful shriek was let out into the air, combining in perfect harmony as I released everything I had to you, and you gladly took it into you body and over it as well.

Panting and soft purring came from both of us as I collapsed next to you, still not letting go of your body or this moment as we snuggled in the afterglow of our love. I ran my claws down the back of your neck and your torso, while you licked my neck again, making me shiver with excitement once more.

"[I love you so much Rose… my blooming flower~]" I coo as you snuggle up to me, and I just hug you more tightly so I can be closer to you. Both of our hearts were beating quickly, full of love for each other, and we could feel it.

"[Kead… you are so special to me...]" You said, before you perked your head up at something and looked around. "[Hey… do you hear that?]"

I didn't hear it at first, but as soon as you mentioned it… I did.

"Around back… he could still be here…" A male human voice said. "This is for San Diego… for-for my sweet Lisa… your time has come you monster."

"[Rose…. RUN!]" I roared and pushed you to your feet, trying to push both you and me to safety as the humans rounding the corner spotted us.

"HE HAS DINOSAURS! KILL THEM!" The human leading them ordered, and several rounds of gunfire were heard being fired, but I focused on running as much as I could, pushing forward despite still being in the afterglow of our earlier session. I tried pushing you in front of me, doing anything I could to preserve your life above my own. They were fast, fast enough to easily outpace the humans trying to hit our scaled bodies…

But not fast enough.

Right as we were about to round the corner that would have given us some time to run into the woods and to shelter; two metallic pings were heard. A sharp, very high-pitched whistle sandwiched between them, then evolving into the roar of the ferocious beast that was fire. The long propane tank that fueled many parts of the property was pierced, and the bullet that entered the hole was bouncing around inside, releasing many more pings with a trail of igniting gas following it. I heard the first ping, and everything went by so fast. All I saw as I reached out for you was your body be completely immolated by the blast of fire that burst out of the tank. As I heard the ear-splitting scream of agony that came from you, I saw your body writhing in pain while you were burned to your very core.

Then it was my turn, as the entire tank exploded and fully engulfed the right side of my body, and every inch of skin on our attackers as well when the fire burst out the other end of the tank in its explosion. I roared out in horrible pain as a massive pressure wave slammed into my body, blowing me into the concrete base of the house with enough force to throw me through it. The entire right side of my body was burning from my eye to my tail, the searing fire eating away at all of my scales and muscles, and leaving me in excruciating pain and anguish.

The scales on my body had quickly become blackened and horribly red, more red than the blazing color that was once present in your eyes. The right eye on my body received no mercy from the fire that consumed my scales either, as the vision in that eye became red and distorted, rapidly fading until vanishing altogether. Rough scraping noises came from behind my hind legs, as the bones in my tail were made exposed to the air after the fire ate through the scales and muscles on my body. It brushed against the broken concrete and other materials stored in the ground/basement floor of the building, every single twitch of my tail increasing the pain that I felt by an amount that I couldn't even fathom. Every nerve, every muscle on my body was exposed to the burning fire that had now started spreading to the house, and all I could focus on during the battle between consciousness and unconsciousness was the agonizing scream from you as you were devoured by the blaze.

"ROSE! KEAD!" A young man's voice cried out as I finally lost the battle of staying conscious, and passed out from the terrible pain.

[February 4th, 2016 10:05 pm]

[Western Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge]

"['Nothing can take that away from us, nothing.' How fucking ironic…]" I weakly chuckled as I looked down at the grave that I had made for Rose, and had filled with what little I could salvage from what was left of her body. "[I know I know… you'd slap me right now if you could, just like you loved to. Heh, look love, I'm not blaming myself for your death, or my injuries, I'm really not. I just… wish that I could have seen what was coming.]"

I let out a soft breath and looked around to gather my thoughts, and also to examine my work around here thus far. I had found roses around the wildlife preserve here, and planted them so that they surrounded her grave on the back and sides, in addition to more native ferns and bushes. Really I was lucky that there was so much plant growth in this area, Southern California isn't exactly known for its lush forests and tall grasses, rather I think it's known for wildfires, something I want to stay as far away as fucking possible from.

I did this because I wanted to make my mate's resting place as beautiful as possible, to honor my mate to the best of my ability by planting things that she loved to look at and admire, and to help her give back to the world that created my beautiful flower, even if this wasn't something my species normally did. Even if it wasn't, it just felt nice to do, and I could see why humans did it with their deceased. This place is very, very peaceful, and I am thankful that it is. From where I was, I was very secluded, yet I had a clear view of the ocean before me, and I loved to look at it. I could hear the waves crashing against the rocky shore of the ground very far down, and the sea water had this refreshing scent to it that I loved to breathe in. I was also comfortably nestled in the shade, which was honestly necessary since the scales on the right side of my body got cracked with extreme ease nowadays in warm and especially in hot, sunny weather.

I nestled myself further into the ground and sighed in pleasure at the cooling soil that surrounded this land. There was a cool breeze flowing from the ocean with every wave that crashed against the cliff and was absorbed into the sand around the rocks, which carried a gentle yet firm spray of salt water that was lifted up by the wind and then blown through the forest here, cooling it down even further. The salt water scent was further combined with the native flowers that were around here, ones that I loved to stop and smell any time I saw them. All of it made for just a perfectly wonderful and relaxing environment that I loved to visit anytime I could, and for as long as possible.

"[Sorry for… beh, I'm still doing it, I know that you hate it when I apologize for everything. I didn't mean to take so long with this, but I'm going to be leaving him now.]" I promised. "[I'm sure that you would agree with me if you saw what he be became after you passed on.]"

I sigh and look back at the trail to this place, and get a relieved look on my face before I turn back to Rose's grave.

"[Rose, I wish I had seen it sooner. He was too much of a visionary, so enraptured with the wonders that he could create, the possibilities that he could make happen; and now he's succumbed to his own desires.]" I told her. "[When he first rescued us from Isla Sorna, we were more than happy to be with him. He was one of the four humans to show us kindness in our entire lives during our time being forced to submit beneath those humans there. Now, he's just… gone.]"

Rose wasn't able to give me a response, and I understood completely.

"[I don't blame you for wanting to stay quiet; this isn't something that I want to talk about either. He probably knows that I'm here, who knows how close he is now.]" I said. "[He did so much for us during the years that we were together, but now that you're… I'm sorry. This is still just so hard for me to believe. I want someone to just love me. Even the other dinos there hated us because of how close we were with the few humans who did care for us. I want someone to love, like I did you… but there is none of my kind here, or any kind for that matter. Before you say it, not even his little "living weapons" or whatever they are could be with me.]"

I looked down at her and worked up the best smile I could.

"[I know that I'll probably have to go back there soon, Rose]" I concluded. "[But do know that I won't stay with him forever. Anything would be better than being a slave like this Chimera or Banshee. He will never control us, ever.]"

I looked down at the ocean again and sighed, cool air blowed against the flowers that were laid just behind the large rock that I had used as a tombstone for my love, and they drifted over to settle on my scales, cooling them further. The water looked so cool, so refreshing that I wished I could have enjoyed it with you; you always did love playing in water…

"[I told you those exact words a month ago, and now I am going to make good on that promise.]" I said with a grin, and felt my heart thumping with the anticipation of heading out on my own. "[I probably won't be able to see you here anymore, but I think that you would agree with me that staying safe is more important. Even if I can't come back here anymore, I know that you will always be with me, and one day we will be with each other once again.]"

"KEADILAN!" A very angry voice yelled at me while shuffling followed it, and I couldn't help but chuckle at his tone.

"[Here he is love. Watch this, it's going to be fucking awesome.]" I laughed and turned around with a snide smirk. "[Hello Henry, what brings you to this place?]"

"You know what child!" Henry yelled, which made me growl, I always hated when he called me that; very, very much. It sounded like he controlled me, controlled every action and thought I had, and he loved to call me that term whenever he could now. "I warned you before, that the next time you left like that, I would make sure that you would regret it…"

Henry had a tablet or something out which he used for communication purposes with me, using a stolen prototype from someone he knew as Dr. Sorkin to do so. He pulled out a remote while leaning on a crutch that he used to get here, and when Henry pushed the button on the remote, I fell to the ground screaming and jerking while glaring at him.

"[Don't you dare… call me 'child' you fucker… you know that to someone of your species… I'm as old as you are!]" I snarled and dug my claws into the ground, my prosthetic tail lashing at the bushes around us which knocked leaves off of them. "[You also know… that I told you… you will NEVER prevent me from seeing my mate's resting place! YOU BETTER DAMN HAVE ENOUGH DECENCY LEFT TO LET ME DO THAT!]"

"She never even should have been your mate! Its because of that mating you did that she is gone, and half of your body got burned!" Henry countered. "I have told you several times… it is simply too risky for you to come here whenever you want! You swim past the Naval station TWICE every time you want to come here! Have you gotten it into your thick skull how many public trails are around here?"

"[You still don't get it… do you?]" I growled, and glared at him with contempt burning in my one working eye. "[You pretentious bastard… you don't even feel love for Rose anymore, you're just too damn full of hatred for the people that took her away from me! You condemn me for coming out here… wanting to spend time with her… even taking care of the land around her grave and making it look nice… and yet you haven't done so ONCE since in 10 whole years!]"

"When I let go and finish correcting your behavior… you're going right back home… and I'm putting you in the cage I've had built…" Henry said in a flat voice, and I couldn't help but break out laughing at that. "Oh? You like the sound of that?"

"[You… you… fucker… I'm not one of your war machines...]" I snarled, and still chuckled at his arrogance. "[I love Rose… and I can see her anytime I damn want!]"

"I lost the Banshee because of 'love'!" Henry said in a louder voice. "Now all I have left is the Chimera at the facility, and you are NOT walking away from me!"

"[Let me guess, you think its this Brian guy… don't you?]" I snickered and did it more when I saw that my amusement was really getting to Henry.

"How do you know that?" Henry wondered, and looks at his tablet to make sure it translated right.

"[Yes you read that right.]" I laughed. "[It's quite easy to tell actually, someone in your company of death shows even the sliiiiiiiiiiiightest bit of sympathy, the slightest bit of care to a creation you made, and you think they are the ones who broke them out? You ever consider that maybe some outside group broke her out… a group like the ones who killed Rose?]"

"No one else would even know about them Kead… there are no security cameras down there, which Brian surely would have used to reveal them had they been there." Henry stated. "I had a man check out the cage with me, and in the Banshee's condition, it couldn't have broken out on its own. It simply lacked the strength to do that, and the stairs were messed up too, but someone tried to throw us off by making them look like that."

"[You forget Henry, all of the staff at Jurassic World, and even the visitors there found out about your chimera and banshee when those two spy dinosaurs released the information to the public.]" I chuckled.

"Spies?!" Henry laughed hysterically. "Those two rogue assets 1: stole a flash drive from my lab when there was just minimal security present; 2: printed out hundreds of paper sheets and just TAPED them on any flat surface they could find- how they even knew how to do so is beyond me; and 3: Hoskins and I were able to cover that up as another organization trying to discredit us. They weren't spies, just some amateur dinosaurs who wanted revenge for something I 'supposedly' did to them and their family."

"[Speaking of which, Hoskins's death should have been a wake-up call for you.]" I sighed, relaxing as Henry took his finger off the button to support himself on his crutch. "[His dream got him killed, and now you're going down the same path with your ambitions. The Indominus Rex was a warning, now you're ignoring it because you want to go ahead with this… Indoraptor project of yours. You know what happens when you fly too close to the sun right~]?"

"HIS DREAM?! IT WAS MINE!" Henry yelled and pushed the button again, making me scream as he defended his perceived reality. "It was my dream to take revenge on people like those bastards who took Rose away!"

"[NO IT WAS MINE!]" I growled and tried to force myself up through the pain. "[I ONLY WANTED TO KILL WHOEVER TOLD THOSE HUNTERS WHERE WE LIVED! I JUST WANTED TO DELIVER JUSTICE UPON THE ONES WHO TOOK ROSE AWAY FROM ME! YOU'RE THE ONE WHO TOOK MY DREAM BECAUSE YOU COULDN'T HANDLE LETTING GO OF HER AFTER SHE DIED! I wish you had never taken us from Isla Sorna… everything was wonderful before you came along…]"

"Wonderful…?" Henry laughed and kept the button pressed down. "Do you even remember what your life was like before we met? What you suffered through?"

[October 31st, 1991]

[Isla Sorna Embryonics Administration and Laboratory Complex]

"Trick or treat!" A very endearing voice said, which sent me and my friends scrambling out of our little "houses" and to the dirt that was right outside.

Well, outside wasn't quite the right word. While we weren't inside the main or secondary buildings in the laboratory complex, we were sheltered and screened in from the outside jungle, and life was GREAT!

The voice that called us outside while we carried little bits of candy in our mouths was none other than our caretaker Ryan, but we just called him daddy. He showed us this very cool human tradition last year, and we immediately fell in love with it.

He helped us decorate our homes with objects that we found interesting, such as bones from prior food, flowers, and also leaves. He himself also provided things for this special occasion, such as a thing called a "costume" that he loved to chase us in, and that we loved to be chased by; and he also showed us a fruit that he called a "pumpkin" that he carved. My best friend Rose was stuck in it and had trouble getting out since she was a different species of raptor than the others here, and thus was taller. I found her being stuck in the pumpkin and trying to get out funny, but she didn't.

We all had bright, beaming smiles on our faces as we looked forward to playing with our daddy. There was a shining twinkle that could be seen in our eyes, and although we couldn't swing our tails in a wide arc, daddy could still see ours swishing quickly with how much happiness we were radiating. Daddy made such a sweet croon that sounded like "awwwwwwwww", and it just made our hearts melt.

I put my candy in his hands, and Rose did too once Daddy helped her out, after which she swatted her claws on my nose rapidly because I laughed at her. It didn't really hurt, and I just found it really cute.

A couple of velociraptors next to us had been trying to push their candy into Daddy's hands, but this playful display had turned into a small fight. A small brown raptor was starting to nip at one with a blue stripe running down his body, the latter of whom pounced on the female.

"Hey! Aurora, Bora, cut it out!" Daddy warned, pushing them away from each other to calm them down, gladly taking nips which drew blood while he did. "It's okay… I'm not picking favorites. We share these at the end of the day, remember?"

They lowered their heads in submission and whined as an apology, which Daddy immediately gave them by softly rubbing their heads, while they tried to clean his wounds by licking them. Me and Rose got in on the comforting by nuzzling the other raptors and giving them tender licks.

"It's okay everybody, there's no need to fight over this. There will be plenty more holidays to come, and we will enjoy each and every one of them, as a family." Daddy promised and sat down in front of us, and we all proceeded to jump on him, with me almost knocking him over since I was the largest at the time. We crawled all over him and started licking at his face and giving him playful nips across his upper body.

"Hey! Keep your animals under control Ryan!" Another voice called out, and we whined as another human came into the area. This human wasn't a nice human like our daddy, this was a mean one.

Daddy said that this human was a mean one, and we believed him due to the screeching noises coming from an area a little ways away from here, a place where dinos bigger than us grew up. Daddy was around us almost all the time, and this mean human wasn't around the others much, which were velociraptors. Daddy said that this mean human neglected the other dinosaurs that he was supposed to care for, and that he didn't teach them right from wrong. Daddy let me and Rose stay with these younger nicer raptors because we were reacting so well to growing up with each other. He also didn't want us around the other raptors because when we were released around them to socialize, they bullied us, and we ran back to him crying.

"Oh Trevor, let them have their fun, can't you see how happy they are with each other?" A much older human asked as he walked into the room while on an extra limb with a gold egg on the top, or at least something that looked like an egg. This human was very, very nice, and he once played with us along with our daddy, but they said that he shouldn't anymore because we might hurt him. We were very sad when we heard that and we tried to promise that we wouldn't hurt him, but he still visited us when he could, and he always loved seeing us. "Don't forget that dear Mary loves when people pet and hold her, and she's one of the first of her kind!"

"We aren't raising them for a petting zoo Hammond, they're going to be attractions and stay in their zones." Trevor told him with a sigh.

"And tell me Trevor, what people will want to see dinosaurs that do not have adequate healthcare, are not allowed to have their own personal spaces, and most of all… are not happy?" Hammond asked with a point at him.

Trevor couldn't really come up with an answer to that, and he just sighed while refusing to look at Hammond and admit that he's right, and he probably didn't care what Hammond said.

"Now, let Ryan and his kids have their fun, while you and I go check up on your group." Hammond said, leading Trevor out of the room.

"I wish that Trevor would take care of his raptors, they're becoming increasingly aggressive and psychotic, and I hate seeing them suffer, especially at such a young age." Daddy told us, hugging us as closely to him as he could while not hurting us, and we started licking him again. This went on for several more minutes, and then he let us go so that he could get up. "Is it okay with you all if I go see Hammond and ask if I can take care of the other group as well instead of Trevor?"

Aurora, Bora, and the others looked unsure, but with reassuring looks from me and Rose, they agreed with us and we said it would be okay. Daddy patted us all on our heads with a smile on his face, and we all made sweet chirps before he got up to leave the room.

Rose and I went back to our houses to rest since it was getting dark. Once we got inside, however, we heard soft whimpers coming from behind us. We turned around and saw that Aurora, Bora, and the others were sad since Daddy had left. I softly smiled and laid down, then motioned for them to come over to us. Rose came over as well, and the two of us comforted the kids as best we could at the time.

[June 27th, 1993]

"[Where is he? Where is he?]" Aurora panicked as we took shelter from the hurricane inside a larger building with a clearing around it where we could still walk around freely. I made my way over to her and laid down to put a reassuring claw on her back. She jumped slightly when I did so, but calmed down some immediately after. "[I'm so scared…]"

"[I am too Aurora, I am too.]" I comforted and rubbed her side, soothing her nerves some and smiled when she leaned into me.

"[How are we supposed to survive this? We've never been through anything like this before…]" Aurora wondered as she looked up at the skies, then around the field. Even in the little light we had from small emergency systems, we could see that the rain was falling in sheets, and wisps were brushing off of the poles and roofs around us.

"[I don't know that either…]" I sighed, but I kept her close to me so I could keep comforting her. "[We'll do the best we can though. We'll stay close to walls and under roofs so we can avoid most of the wind and rain, and hopefully the lights will be on soon, that way we can see a little better.]"

"[I hope dad is okay…]" Aurora sighed and rested her head on one of my forearms. I started softly rubbing her head, and I looked around some while I tried to keep Aurora calm.

The other raptors weren't so easy to keep calm though. They were running around or at least pacing a lot, whining, and asking the same questions nonstop. It really was understandable, since there was a massive category four hurricane bearing down on us right now according to what Dad said earlier. Even with all the panicking and nonstop questions to which I didn't have answers for, I still tried to keep everyone close to me. Rose was doing her fair share of work too in comforting our packmates as I thought about what could be taking Dad so long.

Dad had managed to stay behind and ignore the mandatory evacuation order that was given to the humans here. He just loved us too much to leave us to the mercy of Hurricane Clarissa, and thought that we wouldn't survive well on our own after being suddenly released in a hurry.

Dad had left to restore the power to this area once all of the lights went down and all comforts with it. The power facility wasn't too far from where we were, which made it all the more strange and worrying that he hadn't returned yet. I really wanted to find out where he was and if he was okay, but he had requested that I stay here and keep guard over everyone, along with Rose by my side. We were the strongest ones here, and thus we stood the best chance of fighting off any attacks by the other raptor pack. They have become too aggressive and ferocious for dad to take care of, so he did the best he could to help keep us safe from them.

The problem for me was, it was starting to get really tempting to go and check up on him, even though he told me not to. I kept trying to rationalize it by thinking that if he was hurt, and stuck somewhere, then that would make him an easy target for the other group of velociraptors. I also felt like I wouldn't be able to live with myself if something even more terrible happened, and we had no idea because me and Rose were too dedicated in following the requests he gave us. I sighed and looked down at Aurora.

"[I think I'm going to find out where Dad is, and see if he's okay.]" I told Aurora, who shuffled over some so I could get up. I saw that she moved so that she could look into my eyes, and I saw a very nervous expression in them.

"[Will… will you be alright?]" She asked, and I just softly smiled at her to reassure her.

"[I'll be alright, I'll be as careful as I can.]" I told her, and patted her head before I went over to Rose.

"[Is something wrong?]" Rose wondered, and I sighed before telling her.

"[Well, I know what Dad said, but… but I just can't shake the need to go and check up on him]." I whispered, and held her close in a hug. "[I think you should go and take the others into a more secure part of this building or field, that way Aurora and the others will be safer.]"

"[Are you sure? I don't know how well I could fight and keep everyone safe while you're away.]" Rose worried.

"[I know, that's why I'm worried about doing this, but… something could have happened, and if I find Dad and bring him back here, then Aurora, Bora, and everyone will at least have an answer.]" I say and nuzzle Rose to reassure her. "[I'll do the best I can to stay safe and not get hurt or lost. I promise.]"

Rose seemed to trust me on that, and before I left, we gave each other a loving lick on the muzzle and happily brushed the scales on ours against the other. I then got up and made my way to the large door next to the one that Dad took to get out. Since the power was out, that made opening the door a little bit easier, as normally it was electrified like the fences around us, and the power was needed to assist in opening the door. Thankfully I was able to push the latches up after seeing how they moved before.

While the heavy wind and rain had been blowing in beforehand, it had gotten REALLY intense after I opened the door, even though it was mostly just a gate. I had to shut it quickly otherwise my friends would become scared again. As soon as I had gotten outside, I felt the full force of the storm as it passed over the northern part of the island and where we were located. Hopefully Dad wasn't too far from where we were, and the storm could have just gotten intense. He could have decided to take shelter inside it until the weather lessened enough for him to come back safely.

I made my way over to where I knew the power building was, as Dad had shown us maps of the compound where we were, as well as the island overall in case any of us escaped, got lost, or both. I know that it sounds silly to have shown a dinosaur a map, as we can't exactly read, but I was really thankful that dad did, since I had taken note of what the map looked like, and it really helped now. Sadly while remembering what the map looked like may have helped me know what path to take, it didn't do any good for actually helping me to get to where I needed to go.

The winds were really picking up speed, and it seemed as if the rainfall was getting even heavier. The dirt paths that connected everywhere in the exterior of the compound had been reduced to mud by this point. While my species naturally thrived in wet environments like rivers, basins, and wetlands, even I was having trouble, and I hoped it wouldn't slow me down too much. When the wind gusted and surprised me, I had to stay low so that I didn't get knocked over by the wind, or stumble and fall down a cliff; as while I was about double or triple the weight of the average adult human, the winds could still batter me around if I wasn't careful.

I kept pushing forward, and arrived at a bridge that needed to be crossed over what was normally a small river to get to the power building. With the torrential rainfall occurring, all that rain had to drain somewhere, and the river was where the water went to drain at the ocean. The rain was falling so fast and in such an intensity that the river was building up. Thankfully it wasn't anywhere near the level of the bridge yet, but there were just two problems. One: the bridge was missing, and two: there was torn outer hide on the metal where the bridge had been mostly broken in half by a tree that fell on it and landed in the ravine below me.

Naturally, I panicked and called out for Dad, trying to yell as loud as I could so that he could hear me. After several minutes of this, it clicked in my head that if he was on the bridge when it got severely damaged, then he may not even be conscious to hear my yelling. I then felt my heart skip a beat when I realized how far down Dad could have fallen when the tree fell on the bridge, and how he could have been seriously hurt if he hit the rocks on his way down. I had to find him, and fast….

I started my search by following the river from high up where I was safer. I moved a bit away from the edge when I nearly slipped and tumbled down into the rushing water, but I still stayed close enough to where I could see down the valley. I tried calling out for Dad again, hoping that he wasn't unconscious and at risk of dying, even though I knew that he probably wouldn't be able to hear me.

I made a cheerful hoot when I spotted him lying in the water further downstream near a tree and some rocks where the river turned, and I quickly made my way down to where he was. I slipped as I was making my way down, but I managed to save myself by leaning into the slope and just sliding down until I got some stable footing and could walk the rest of the way. I ran over to dad, and pulled him out of the water, then flipped him over so that he was lying on his back.

Thing was… he didn't move… at all. I initially thought that he was unconscious, so I nudged him with my snout and my claws, but he still didn't move. I was confused as to why his mouth and eyes were wide open, and why his eyes didn't even move or react when I leaned over him to look into his. I lowered my head down to his chest, to see if he was even breathing, or if I could hear his chest thumping, but I heard nothing.

I started to realize just why he wasn't moving or doing anything, and I felt tears start falling at how I couldn't save Dad from being a victim of this horrific hurricane. This man, this very kind human who had cared for us so much for our entire lives, was gone. I just couldn't believe that Dad had been killed trying to keep us safe, and I began wondering if I could have kept him alive by asking him to stay with us until the hurricane had passed or weakened. I also began worrying over what I was going to tell the others, as while I'm sure that Rose would understand; Aurora, Bora, and the others were still pretty young.

I had been crying over his body for at least a couple minutes, telling him how sorry I was for not taking charge sooner, and I was also telling him how much I loved him and cared for him. Even though I knew it wouldn't have done any good or have brought him back to us, I still felt the need to say it. I was cut off very abruptly when a large surge of stormwater hit me and knocked me back against the trees and the rocks behind me.

"[NO]!" I yelled when it pulled Dad's body back out into the river, and I made a lunge to grab it before I lost it, but I stopped myself when I saw that huge torrents of water were rushing down the ravine now. If I didn't move now, the waters would soon rise even higher, and I would meet the same fate as my dad. I truly hated that I had to leave his body behind, that I couldn't even bring it back with me to the others, but I promised Rose that I would stay safe, and I was going to make damn sure that I kept that promise.

I turned around and ran as I did my damndest to climb and escape the rising floodwaters, which were lapping at my tail and feet as I kept climbing. It was very hard, as the torrential rain made the soil and rocks very slick, and while I was at least heavy enough to avoid getting blown off my feet whereas a human would in these conditions, it was still strong enough that I could lose my traction if I wasn't careful.

Eventually I made it back onto level ground, and I quickly made my way back to the compound where the rest of the pack was taking shelter. As soon as I lifted the latch for the gate, it swung inward and slammed into the wall with a booming thud, making me jump at the noise. I heard screeches of fear coming from the others, and I hurried inside so I could try and shut the gates, but I kept getting pushed back by the wind as I tried to close them. The winds were becoming so loud that they sounded like howls, and it was honestly starting to terrify me as well, with a shiver running down the scales along my spine. I ran over to the others, hearing branches and other debris fall around us, and I crouched next to Rose who almost didn't hear me calling her over the wind and the rain.

"[Where-where's Dad?!" She yelled and looked at me with fear in her eyes, and they widened when she saw the somber expression in mine. I looked down at Aurora, Bora, and the others, and Rose realized what I was going to do. She put on of her claws on my muzzle to get my attention. "[Please don't… they're not ready…]"

"[They deserve to know, I won't lie to them.]" I said, and while Rose didn't look entirely happy with my choice, she seemed to understand. I looked down at the anxious and terrified velociraptors and sighed before I broke the news. "[Everyone… Dad-Dad isn't coming back… he fell and… he drowned trying to get the power back on for us. I'm sorry but… Dad is dead]."

I felt my heart sink when I saw the realization come across their faces as they started to comprehend what I just said. They all looked down and curled up, starting to weep at being left without their dad, and I wanted to join them, to mourn with them. Sadly a loud metallic clang rang out when a large branch struck the security fence just a few feet away from us, and kept the little ones from processing our dad's death. They started crying with both loss and fear for their lives as the eyewall made its way ever closer to us.

I looked over at Rose, and she immediately nodded at what I was thinking. We both moved towards to the kids and held them close to us, leaning over them to keep them safe from the storm. We curled up to keep our own heads safe, and let our bodies block the incoming branches and anything else that Clarissa tried to throw at us. We would keep these little ones safe, no matter what…

[Present time]

"[You… you fucker… how can you even say that? How can you even say that I suffered then?!]" I screamed at Henry, shocking him and making him jump back at my volume. "[The day we met you… the day you came to me and Rose… that's when we SUFFERED!]"

I was openly crying now, weeping at the memory of all the amazing times that me and Rose shared with Aurora, her future mate Bora, and all of their friends. I remembered how I helped take care of them even when Dad was still around, and took over the role of caretaker and even father after he was killed in the hurricane. Me and Rose had kept them safe from it and from the psychotic raptor pack doing anything we could, as we were the largest and strongest ones out of the entire pack that we were in.

Tears rolled down the scales on my muzzle, dripping down to the ground as I dug my claws into it in grief, getting the dirt between the digits on my claws as I glared at Henry. I still remember the heartbroken looks on the faces of the raptors, the friends that me and Rose considered to be our children as we decided to leave and be with Henry when he came to Isla Sorna the following year for some "cleanup" operation. We had both been terribly grieving at the time, as one of our beloved children had been killed by the other raptor pack because we had fallen into a trap left by them. Henry had promised us a family, shelter, and food, all of which we already had, and left behind… all because we weren't thinking and made a decision in blind grief.

"[We ABANDONED them! Friends that we considered our own damn CHILDREN!]" I shouted. "[The day that we left them… the day that we made a decision to go with you… was the biggest mistake of our entire godforsaken lives! We never should have left them! Every single day we regretted our decision, every single day we felt hollow because we never considered how they would be affected by our decision to leave them! We thought that Sharon was killed because of our attachment to humans, and that by leaving them we would give them peace from the other pack! We were so STUPID to think that!]"

What I said next, truly ripped out Henry's heart and pissed him off…

"[You NEVER loved us at all! We thought that you would care for us, we thought that you would raise us in a safe place, but every damn word you said was a fucking LIE! You only cared about what me and Rose could do, before long, you started performing minor experiments on us, seeing how smart we were, how strong we were, testing our emotions! You just wanted us so you could play god!]" I declared and stood up. "[Me and Rose thought every day about finding our way back, doing anything we could to get back to Isla Sorna and be with our children again! I DON'T EVEN KNOW IF THEY'RE STILL ALIVE NOW! But let me tell you something Henry, ever since you started performing experiments on us, ever since we realized every damn word you said was a lie, and that we realized you would never take us back… we never loved you at all… we fucking HATED you! Every… damn… second!]"

"You… fucking… ungrateful… MONSTER!" Henry yelled, getting so loud that spit came out with his words sometimes. "YOU'RE the one who never asked me if you could mate with Rose! No, BOTH of you never asked me! YOU never thought about me and what I thought of it! If you two had both kept your fucking instincts under control, Rose would still be alive, and if you both really felt like that from the very beginning… then you both deserved what happened to you! Did THAT get into your thick skull?!"

And that, was the last straw…

"[YOU BASTARD!]" I roared and lunged at him, headbutting him into a tree before throwing him at the ground gut first. Before he could even get up and retaliate, I planted a foot on him and held him down in the dirt. "[DON'T YOU FUCKING DARE SPEAK SO LOWLY OF ME OR MY MATE!]"

"How…?" He gasped, even as I stood over him and kept pressure on him with one of my feet, all he could think of was his own damn ego, it was all about him… "I never stopped shocking you! Your implant should be functioning perfectly… unless… no… Rosebush..."

While normally I would just crush him then and there, and not answer him, I wanted him to hear my parting words before I left him behind. I grabbed him with my claws and threw him over to where he dropped his device, and before he could get to his feet, I pushed him down into the dirt. I stayed over him and kept enough pressure on him to make him hurt while he could still read what I said.

"[You think everything is about you huh?! No matter what you do, no matter what you create, you think that everyone will love and respect you if you just keep making new wonders? Even with all the funding you've received, all the respect and admiration that has been given to you, you're never satisfied with any of it!]" I growled and kept forcing him to read. "[First it was just a flower that you even named after yourself! Next it was the Indominus Rex who you just shoved into the new world and lacked any empathy for! Heh… and now you're just creating biological weapons… living creatures with personalities and emotions that deserve safe and humane treatment, and you're just going to abuse and treat them as mindless beasts!]"

I reached down with my jaws and pulled the crutch that he was using over to me and planted it in the ground in front of him so he could see it. Right before his eyes, I bit down into it and snapped it in half before tossing it over the cliff edge.

"[Congratulations Henry. You've lost it.]" I commended and growled right in his ear. "[I promise you, if you hadn't mistreated and made Blue suffer in the way that you have, traumatizing the poor girl for the rest of her life, then I would kill you right here and now. It's not my place to kill you though, others have suffered more than I have, and they will be the ones to kill you; as slowly and painfully as possible. As for me, I'm going to make you suffer while you crawl back to your home, and when you get there… I won't be there…]"

"You can't leave! YOU CAN'T!" Henry yelled at me, becoming hysterical as he struggled to get up, but lacked the strength to push me off. "I'm the only one you can be safe around! You know what happened in San Diego before, you go anywhere and you'll be killed! You need me!"

"[No, I don't.]" I simply told him. "[You've just become a monster Henry, you never considered how your actions would affect those you wanted respect and love from. Well guess what? You just lost the last one who had hoped that you wouldn't become the cold and empty monster you are now. Now you'll have no one, and you'll continue to stay like that until the day Blue tears you apart. You hate Blue because of how she reminds you of Rose, and how she wanted to be free. I take a lot of comfort in knowing that she will kill be the one to kill you, and that you will suffer through every second of it.]"

I reached down and crushed the flat device he used inside my jaws, then tossed it over the cliffside and into the water below. I took pleasure in knowing that there was stuff that he needed inside it, and that now it would be unusable forever. Along with it went any way of verbal communication between us, and I started walking away without so much as a goodbye. This man, this fucking monster who has done so much, he didn't deserve the courtesy of a goodbye. He deserved nothing.

"KEAD!" Henry yelled at me as I walked away, and broke anything that I thought he could use to make his journey back easier. "GET BACK HERE! GET BACK HERE RIGHT NOW! YOU FUCKER! I WILL GET YOU BACK! YOU ARE NOT WALKING AWAY! DO YOU HEAR ME?!"

His words fell on deaf ears however, and I kept on walking away from him, never once turning around or breaking stride. I knew places where I could go, places away from people where I could be safe and live out my life in peace, however long I had left to live at least. I would never return to Henry, or allow myself to be captured by him. To my dying breath, I would honor Rose's memory and those of our beloved children as well. They have always been my true family, and always will be.

Now and forever...

And there you have it! Chapter 11: I'm Only Human.

First thing I want to get out of the way is a small thing. Aurora is the sandy-brown velociraptor that we see in Jurassic Park III (the alpha female one), and Bora is the one with the red crests on his snout, and the long blue stripe running down his neck and to his tail (the velociraptor that "introduces" the alpha female). I swear their names rhyming was a complete accident. I named Bora what I did because of his iconic blue stripe, and Bora Bora has very blue waters. Bonus points for it being a Hoskins reference: "Imagine these things running around in Bora Bora".

Second thing is: I'm thinking about not using any more vocal songs during the actual chapters. I tested it out last chapter for myself, and I found it hard to read one thing while hearing another. So I'll probably just be using non-vocal songs most of the time.

I understand that this chapter is short, but I personally feel like it has a bit of substance to it, and speaks volumes for how Henry Wu has descended into unethical experiments and become increasingly egotistical. Here are my thoughts on the matter:

Wu has had a history of feeling the need to prove himself to others, to develop magnificent creations and impress those around him. He was a child prodigy in his later school years after some failures in his early ones, and he displayed some naïvety and arrogance during his career at Jurassic Park. These traits only grew as his creations such as Karacosis Wutanis were created, as well as other genetic works that he developed. This is because the more he created, the more of a feedback loop was created. Wu never felt like what he was doing was enough, no matter how much respect and funding he was given, he felt like people still didn't understand him or what he has accomplished. This has ultimately caused him to become much less empathetic and increasingly antisocial while still feeling a small underlying need to impress others. At first it was a small flower, then it became genetically engineered dinosaur hybrids, and now it is biological weapons in the forms of dinosaurs. Because Wu can, he feels like he has to. He was so preoccupied with whether or not he could, he didn't stop to think if he should.

Remember this quote from Jurassic World? "All of this exists, because of me."

To me, that sounds like Henry believes that he is responsible for the creation of the dinosaurs; as if he believes he is the ONLY one who went out and found all the amber pieces, extracted the genetic material, made viable embryos, found suitable creatures to develop the eggs that came from those embryos, and made sure that the dinosaurs survived to adulthood.

We know that he is not the only one in the labs during Jurassic Park and Jurassic World, yet he casts himself in the same light as a god.

I was also curious as to how he went from simply creating living dinosaurs in Jurassic Park, and simply being prideful of his work, all the way to developing dinosaurs as living biological weapons. I figured that something must have happened to him for him to make that transition.

Sure, adopting dinosaurs was a bit of a stretch to me at first, and I felt like it wasn't enough at that, so I added on just a little bit of extra narrative to develop it into something that I believed made more sense. Namely that while Henry had every intention of keeping his promise to Kead and Rose (even though he really just put them in a gilded cage), he wanted to run little side projects as well, like seeing what they could do.

As for Henry feeling the need to prove himself after some initial failures early in his career, I intentionally left that part about the failures vague because I wasn't really comfortable going into detail concerning that. I felt like it wouldn't make much sense or make for good writing if I described him failing a class or his parents being disappointed in him, and that's why he's creating living machines of death. So I wanted to try and make the point that Henry himself drove him into becoming the man that he is today.

I hope that these points and details do a good job of explaining how Wu (I'm just going to say Wu from this point on, I'm just more used to saying that) can turn such a blind eye to all of this death and suffering that he himself is causing by creating these unnatural creatures, and not giving the positive psychological needs that they deserve as living creatures. I mean, when Simon Masrani tells Wu "It's killed people Henry." All Wu does is basically give a shrug and say "That is unfortunate". To me, no normal person would have such a flat reaction to the deaths of other human beings by the fangs of a creature that THEY THEMSELVES helped create. Wu doesn't even gasp or say something like "What have I done?". B.D. Wong himself even stated in an interview that Wu is pretty much like "Yeah yeah, I get that all this bad stuff is happening right now, but you don't really understand what I'm trying to do here."

So I wanted to explore all of that from the perspective of someone who was close to Wu, who suffered as a result of his actions and was around to see the full transition into the man that he is now, or should I say, monster.

And speaking of giving the dinosaurs the psychological needs that they deserve as living creatures. that actually helps lead me into my next topic: how I write my dinosaurs.

I understand that the way I have written Blue, Rexy, Yumi, and even smaller characters like Sally and Stega may seem overly human, but to me, they aren't. Yes, my writing may contradict that sentence, but it's just comfortable to me. When I think of an animal, I think of an individual with their own feelings, personality, and sentience. I don't think of an animal as having just instincts and basic emotions, I think of them as much more than that; dinosaurs included in the case of this story.

That's why I gave this chapter the title that it has. Originally it was simply "Justice for a Rose", as Keadilan's name is Indonesian for "Justice", and I chose the Indonesian language for that as I believe baryonyx lived in that country, or the first fossil of a baryonyx was found there. Although I could be wrong on that.

This chapter's title was derived from a song by Rag'n'Bone Man, called Human. It's a really great song to me, and I believe that the lyrics perfectly reflect Kead's actions. I am aware that Kead not killing Wu himself despite how he feels may not make sense to some, or how he is aware of the suffering that Blue has gone through. As for Blue's suffering, I simply assumed that he's overheard Wu muttering about her during the time before my story and after Wu got back from Isla Nublar. As for him not killing Wu, he believes that Blue should be the one to kill him instead of doing it himself because he believes killing Wu himself would not help Blue out. In fact, and this is something that I just thought of as I was typing this, if he killed Wu, Blue would not really have any means of knowing, and she would be living for a very long time in paranoia, always worried that he is going to come back; so he thinks Blue needs to know that Wu is dead by killing him herself.

As for Kead and Rose leaving behind the raptor pack in Jurassic Park 3. That may be breaking character to some, but I see it as staying in-character, as crazy as that may sound. Some people don't make smart or rational decisions when grieving or when they are angry, and they can act without thinking. If I were Kead or Rose and I felt like I was so stupid as to fall for a trap, and someone that was close to me died as a result of those actions, damn right I would be devastated and blaming myself. "I'm only human, I make mistakes, I'm only human, That's all it takes." That can help to understand Kead's actions. He made a mistake, and he realizes that. I think that's a good example of character, where someone doesn't always stay integral to their actions or morals the whole time, and admits that they aren't perfect and that they can make mistakes too.

I write my dinosaur characters as understanding humans and each other, even though they may be separate species because I honestly believe that they can. Is it realistic? No. Is it cool and sweet? Well that's really up to you all. I know what kind of a story I want to tell with Jurassic Lands, and I'm not going to be changing that for anyone. I don't need to write like anyone else may tell a Jurassic Park/World story, because then I'm not creating my own, I'm just taking away from someone else. Changing how the dinosaurs interact with humans would mean changing the story that so many of you have fallen in love with, and that is not something that I want to lose.

Up next is chapter 12: The Martyr. In this chapter, although Kenny and Blue may be at peace (for now) and have helped each other with their pasts, there are still others who have not been completely honest about their pasts and it still grieves them even a decade later.

It's easy to give advice, but taking it is another matter entirely...

[Next time on Jurassic Lands]

"{YOU DON'T GET IT DO YOU?! ITS NOT THE SAME!} Yumi screeched as she approached Kenny and Blue with her frill expanded, threatening to spit acid at both of them. "{YOU DON'T KNOW ME! YOU THINK THAT JUST BECAUSE YOU KNOW SOME PSYCHOLOGY MEANS THAT YOU KNOW HOW TO MAKE EVERYTHING BETTER?! YOU! FUCKING! DON'T! KNOW! ANYTHING!}"

Right when Yumi saw that they were right where she wanted, she swiftly turned on her feet and kicked them both outside into the rain. They both grunted as they landed in the mud, and looked back up at Yumi with worry and fear.

"{I don't give a damn if you two are my alphas… if you come back here and keep talking to me about this… I really will spit in your faces… without hesitation.}" Yumi hissed and slammed the door shut, the lock being moved with a loud click.

7/12/21 edit: Changed parts from present tense to past tense. Don't know why I wrote it like that and kept flipping between them.
