AN: Hello everyone! I did it! I finally got another chapter written and uploaded. Woo Hoo! Seriously though, if y'all like free time, don't go back to school while working a full time job. It will eat every last hour of free time you have and leave you tired all the damn time. This chapter has been slowly worked on in 10-15 minute chunks, once a weekend since news years. takes a while when that's all you can afford.
This chapter was made more complicated by the fact that the new Spiderman: Far from home trailer showed a very similar premise, you know, the whole Peter in a foreign country, helping out Nick Fury. It kinda bummed me out a little. I though that I was doing something original, and here comes a major motion picture that shows me wrong. Fret not everyone, this arc will be finished, I just had to edit it so that I would be able to move onto the next chapter. As a comparison, most of my arcs are 10 chapters, and this one is gonna be about eight.
NeoTyson, Cellgress, Mallus, Cruden, Akira Hyama, hope you guess still want to review.
Chapter 6
Felicia followed the two Zodiac operatives. Peter had nicknamed white guy So-Cal and the Asian in the blue suit Rush Hour. The two were walking down a cobblestone street in the late afternoon browsing at various expensive clothing, jewelry, and luxury goods through the windows of shops. Felicia was having the time of her life on this little covert mission.
She was taking in the beautiful Mediterranean Sea and the French Riviera. The sights were incredible. The weather was nice and temperate. The architecture was stunning. And the two international spooks in front of her were making it a point to look like any other tourists, and visiting all of the famous and upscale locales.
The distance they put between themselves and the hotel was giving the other two members of the team the opportunity to set up more electronic surveillance as well.
Nick Fury and peter made their way to the hotel the Zodiac personnel were staying in. He was dressed in a grey jump suit with a logo of a plumbing company above the breast pocket. Nick had also taken off his eye patch and put in a very convincing fake eye. In the seat him Peter, in the same uniform followed carrying a canvas work bag in his lap.
Earlier, Nick had placed a few fake calls to the front lobby complaining about the lack of water pressure. After diverting the outgoing call to the plumbing company to his own phone, he was able to fashion a few quick disguises. Faking the accents, even a French, one was easy for Nick after having so much experience in espionage.
"Won't the people at the hotel ask for ID?" Peter had asked as they were driving over.
"People tend not to look to close at the assistant to the plumber they hired." Fury explained.
"What about my cover?"
"Once again just don't say anything except for 'oui' whenever I ask you a question, and keep on your hat and sunglasses. You'll be fine."
"You sure?" Peter asked uncertain.
Fury looked him dead in the eyes. It was even more unnerving now that he had what appeared to be both eyes. "I've been doing this for a while now." Fury said.
The two drove through the Monaco streets to the hotel. The small blue panel van had a generic logo on side feature the name of the fake company, contact information and logo of a elbow pipe with three drops of water coming out of the bottom. In the back they had a few lengths of metal and PCV piping, a few tool boxes and bags, and some electronic measuring equipment. Nothing really stood out of place. Aside from the fact that Peter had no experience with plumbing aside from fixing his shower, toilet and sink in his old apartment. Eventually the two arrived at the hotel.
Nick drove the van around the back of the building and parked in a lot for employees. Nick had cleared it through the front desk when they made the appointment. The two exited and grabbed some tools from the back. Working their way through the employee entrance, they stopped by the business office to sign in and got directions for the utility room. After a short conversation that Peter didn't understand, the man in the management office handed Nick a key card. As Nick had expected, no one asked Peter and questions, though Fury did gesture to him and the tool bags he was carrying. The hotel employees just pointed them in the direction they needed to go.
The duo then walked down a stereotypical office hallway. Beige walls, a blue grey carpet, and overhead lighting. The area of the hotel they were in was located behind the lobby so the guests and the general populace didn't have a reason go back there. But the office, management, and customer service personnel didn't pay any attention to the people who were here to fix the water pressure issue.
The bags in Peters arms clinked a little with the tools inside, and Nick scribbled some notes on a form on a clip board that he was hold when they reached a door that read 'Utilities Chambre'.
"I don't speak French, but I'm guessing were where be need to be." Peter stated. Though a it was a little uncertain.
"Not quite. Just the first stop we need to make." Nick said as he opened the door. As Peter walked through Nick closed the door behind them.
"Okay what are we doing he?" Peter asked. Though he was wearing a costume, this wasn't his normal type of alter-ego work.
"We're plumbers, it's be weird if we didn't go to the utility room first." He said.
Peter understood that part. "Okay how are we gonna get upstairs?"
"Simple. After he 'fix' the problem in here, we're gonna check upstairs to make sure we 'actually fixed it'." The super spy explained. He had opened up an electrical panel of some kind and was fumbling with the wires inside.
"And we use that opportunity to plant bugs." Peter said excitedly.
"Now you're getting it." Nick pulled out on the wires a little bit.
"Wait…how do figure out which room is So-Cal and Rush Hour's? We only know they were on the 30th floor."
Fury turned to Peter and pointed to the bag in his left hand. "Hand me that bag and I'll show you."
Peter gave him the bag and Fury pulled out pulled out some wire strippers, a clamp with a USB connector and a computer. Nick peeled back the insulation on the wire and attached the clamp to the exposed section before plugging the USB into the computer.
"I take it you always get your information on bad guys, criminals, and mad scientists bay accessing one of their computers, or a network router." Nick guessed.
"Well…yeah." Peter said. "It's the only way to get the information and upload any virus or malware." He explained. "I call them 'goobers'."
"To upload true. But if you want to look, and have the right equipment, you can look into a network by accessing an ethernet cable. And we just need to find the rooms where a few guests are staying. Not trying to shut down the computers of a poor hotel, are we?" Nick said as he pulled up the command prompts of the computer. "If you would be so kind as to search for a list of guests who reserved a block of multiple rooms and any more than one floor, we'll have our guys."
Peter grabbed the computer and started putting commands. "What are the search parameters?"
"Look for anybody who reserved three rooms, at least one on the 30th floor with a check in time of yesterday afternoon." Fury advised. "Most people don't reserve so many rooms."
"Why three?"
"Two to sleep in, one to conduct a clandestine meeting."
Peter typed in the information. He waited a second while the computer pulled up a list of hotel guests. "We got a hit."
"Save a copy, and remember which rooms they are." Nick order as he started to stow the tools and electronics back in their bag.
"What next?" Peter asked. He picked up the bags in both hands as the veteran spy picked up his clipboard.
"Easy. Now we get to plant surveillance devices."
Felicia sat in a fancy restaurant by the window that overlooked the sea. The sun shone through the large window illuminating. The room was had a small number of people, but for the most part it was still a little early for most lunch patrons. That didn't stop her from enjoying possible the best place of seafood primavera that she had ever had. And as a bonus he seat had a partial view of where So-Cal and Rush Hour were.
Unlike the well lit table Felicia sat at, the two Zodiac sat in a high back booth, away from the main sunlit part of the room. They men of mystery sat on one side so they could look out into the open. Felicia couldn't see who they were meeting with but she figured it was shady. It felt like the same type of meeting she would have when selling stolen jewels and art.
She knew that this was a matter of patience though. all she had to do was wait and eventually they would all have to leave and she could get a look at mystery man or woman number three. Luckily she could keep ordering drinks and food until they decided to move.
The waiter came over to her. "Could I interest you in desert mademoiselle?"
"That depends. What's better, the souffle or the tiramisu?" Felicia asked.
"The chocolate souffle ma'am. It's quite remarkable. But it will take some time to prepare."
"I've got time."
The waited walked away and Felicia continued to wait. The meeting continued as was and Felicia continued to wait. The souffle was delivered, and Felicia continued to wait. Felicia ate the truly remarkable desert, and continued to wait. She fiddled with her phone when she saw the waiter bring the bill to the Zodiac members. As they got up, Felicia snapped a picture of the three of them.
So-Cal and Rush Hour had their full faces in the photo, but the best she could get of the mystery man they were meeting was a profile view. He had an Asian ethnicity like Rush Hour, also with short black hair and brown eyes. He was dressed in a white button down shirt, tucked into grey slacks. The biggest feature on him though was a light red scar that ran in a vertical line from just in front of his right ear to his jaw line.
Felicia watched them as they walked out of the restaurant and waited a seconds. They would have ample time to get a good look at her so she decided to let them get some distance before she followed the electronic tracker on their car. In the meantime she flagged down the waiter for the bill.
"And how was lunch?"asked the waiter.
"Spectacular." Felicia said.
The waiter handed the bill in a leather bound holder and Felicia put a black credit card tied to her cover with it. She then sent a photo to Fury of the three men meeting.
'This is the man they were meeting with. You know him by any chance?' she texted.
A short time passes and a response came back. 'Chinese covert action team member. Ministry of State Security.'
'How do you know him?'
'I don't. But I've spent enough time in Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand to recognize the MSS operating on foreign soil. Don't follow. They will make you.'
Felicia read through the text again. The MSS China foreign intelligence service, and if a world player was getting involved in the sale of illegal space based super weapons, then she would give them plenty of space. She waived down the waiter again.
"Yes ma'am?"
"On second thought, could I get a glass of wine? What would you suggest to go after the souffle and seafood."
"We have a sublime Riesling." The waited suggested
"Perfect." Felicia loved Monaco.
AN: I'm not totally 100% satisfied with this chapter. With the edits, and the fact that the movie has a similar enough premise, and the fact that I'm in school, a little quality has been sacrificed in order to get it out, but if I don't then I'll just get hung up on it. Up through the fall, my updates will be slower as a prioritize school and work stuff before writing. Sorry everyone, but I have a life to live.
One the plus side, I have figured out how to reliable get a few minuted of writing in every weekend. So we are not done yet.
Oh, and if you read this PowerHero, this is my first update since you started reviewing like a mad man.
