The Family Tree

A/N: With all the craziness lately and to keep my sanity, I've decided to try and complete this story since I have the time to do so. I hope you enjoy it.

Nothing made sense to Hope anymore. Two people, she had spent her life looking up to had teamed up with their greatest enemy. Hope found herself in the empty room that once belonged to them. She thought about what Cami had said to her, maybe there was more to the story than she was aware, but at the same time, she also noticed a change in Coryna they were small things and didn't really notice until she tried to figure out how her family got to this moment.

Hope absentmindedly looked through the drawers of the dresser in the room, thinking about everything that has happened in the recent month. She was at the opening of the last drawer, expecting to find the same thing in all the others. Nothing. To Hope's surprise, she found a small grimoire, it wasn't anywhere as big as Coryna's, but it had her family crest on it. Hope traced the Tree of Life symbol with her finger. She opened the grimoire and as she flipped through the pages and quickly realized it every spell Coryna had taught her over the years.

She smiled as she flipped through the pages, each one bringing back happy memories. Hope was about to turn the page once more but stopped before she could fully, reflecting on the day Coryna taught it to her.

-Flashback-

"Are you ready for today's lesson?" Coryna said with a smile.

"Do you like to ask stupid questions?" Hope responded sarcastically.

"Funny"

"So what's the spell for today?"

"This spell" Coryna started as she prepped the objects before her including a crystal blue amulet with the silver base. "Is a transference spell called 'Participes Essentia' or in other words: Shared Essence."

"What does the spell do?" Hope asked.

"This spell helps share the magical essence of one witch to another. Most Celtic witch parents or guardians use this spell to give a young witch some control of their magic, but for you, it will serve another purpose as well. Because you are the daughter of Klaus Mikaelson there is a target on your back"

"I can see where that would be a problem, IF everyone, including my parents, didn't think I was dead." Hope stated sarcastically.

"You have been hanging out with Jase too much," Coryna chuckled. "Even though you are right, everyone does view you as deceased, that doesn't mean that there aren't people or more particularly witches out there who won't seek out to find a weakness for Klaus and that may lead them to you. This spell will transfer some of my magical essence to you, that way if anyone tries to find a weakness to Klaus it will never lead them to you."

"Okay, so do we do this?"

"First put the Alder Tree branches into the cauldron, then add water from the Dead Sea, and then berries of the Blackthorn tree." Hope followed the instructions and watched Coryna pick up a blade and prick herself and let her blood spill over into the cauldron. "My blood is used to release some of the magic that flows through my veins and will eventually mask your power and now you will so the power can be passed to you"

"Now dip the amulet and repeat after me:

ad hoc ista benedicam (with this object, I will bless)

Ad participes unum de mea essentia mihi faciem tuam (to share me essence with the one I face)

est enim sanguis sanguinem te alliges duplicia (blood to blood we bind thee)

transfert ut cum vincula dei familia (to merge the bonds of family)

Hope and Coryna repeated the chant over and over until the amulet caught fire.

-End of Flashback-

"Hope?...Hope?" Shaken from her thoughts Hope looked up to see her brother "You okay?"

"Yeah, I think so" Hope responded as her wheels kept turning in her mind.

Jasper let out a sigh "Come on, let's get out of here."

"Hey Jase"

"Yeah?"

"I think I know how to stall Daliah from finding me. This" Hope said directing Jasper to the grimoire "is a collection of spells Coryna taught me, there is one in here that might be able to help."

"How about we hold a family meeting and you could tell us more about it?" Jasper said with a hint of pride in his eyes and a smile.

Jasper followed Hope out of the room and before leaving completely, he looked back with a worried look, before closing the door.
