Harry Potter and the Duel Academy

Ch. 7: Osiris vs. Obelisk

"Before you begin," Quirrell said, "You must wear these special school Duel Disks. It's for research, you understand."

"Try to remember that this is still a lesson," Lupin added, "So try not to get too carried away."

"I'll go first, Potter. I activate the spell Dual Summon to get two normal summons this turn. I summon Ally of Justice - Kaibaman."

A man with long hair in a Blue-Eyes White Dragon inspired costume took to the field.

"Now I tribute him to special summon a Blue-Eyes White Dragon from my hand!"

In a flash of bright light, the masked man was replaced with Draco's signature monster.

A bright white rock now sat on the field.

"I activate Guardian's effect. I target an effect monster and send it to the graveyard, in this case White of Legend, to special summon a Blue-Eyes monster from my hand. So here comes another Blue-Eyes White Dragon! On top of that, when White of Legend is sent to the graveyard, I can add a Blue-Eyes White Dragon from my deck to my hand. Beat that, Potter. My ace is already on the field! I end my turn."

"I set four cards and end my turn."

"Are you trying to insult me? Is that really the best you can do?"

"If you're not impressed, then why not just attack?"

"First I play Pot of Greed to draw two cards. Next I activate Cost Down, which lets me discard a card to reduce the level of all monsters in my hand by two. So now I tribute my Guardian to summon my third Blue-Eyes White Dragon! The card I sent to the graveyard was White of Ancient. When it's sent to the graveyard, I can special summon a Blue-Eyes monster from my deck. Say hello to Blue-Eyes Solid Dragon!"

This new monster looked similar to an ordinary Blue-Eyes, but it was more shiny, had a light in its mouth, and technicolor wings.

"First Blue-Eyes, attack directly!"

"I activate Drain Shield, which negates your attack, and instead I gain life points equal to your dragon's attack."

HP: 11000

Draco sneered, "Second Blue-Eyes, attack directly!"

"I activate Magic Cylinder, which negates your attack and instead you take the damage."

DM: 5000

Draco now snarled, "Third Blue-Eyes, attack directly! Burst Stream!"

HP: 8000

"No more tricks, Potter?"

"Now that you mention it, I activate my trap Dark Horizon, which lets me special summon a Dark Spellcaster monster from my hand or deck with an attack less than or equal to the damage I took. I special summon Black Magician!"

The dragon shot a beam from its mouth, whil at the same time, the magician shot a beam from his staff. They were both gone in a flash of light.

"I lost my dragon, but you have no monsters, Potter. I end my turn."

"I activate my trap Eternal Soul. I can activate one of its two effects once per turn. I choose the first effect: special summon Black magician from my graveyard."

The mage reappeared next to Harry.

"Now I activate the Fusion spell to combine my Magician with my Buster Blader to create Super Magical Swordsman - Black Paladin!"

"You know what happens now don't you? For each dragon on the field or in the graveyard, he gains 500 attack."

The paladin held his staff high, and a wave of magical energy struck each of the dragons, destroying them all.

"Well done, both of you," Lupin said.

Suddenly, both Harry and Draco collapsed to the floor. Ron and Hermione rushed over to Harry.

"Harry,are you okay?" Hermione asked.

"I feel so weak..."

Draco turned to his cronies and weakly said, "Help me up, you idiots."

"Get those Duel Disks off," Lupin said, "We're taking you both to the nurse right now. Hermione, run ahead and tell Madam Pomfrey she has two patients."

"Yes, Professor!"

Ron got Harry's disk off, making sure to pocket the cards, while Lupin got Draco's and did likewise.

"You two," Lupin called over to Crabbe and Goyle, "You're quite strong. Now grab Mr. Malfoy by his arms and legs, and carry him to the infirmary."

Crabbe and Goyle looked at each other, shrugged, and then did as ordered.

"I'll help you carry him out, Ron," Neville volunteered.

"Thanks, Neville."

"Indeed, thank you, Mr. Longbottom. Class dismissed until tomorrow."

Lupin followed closely behind Ron and Neville, and afterwards the rest of the class shuffled out.

"I'll just clean up in here, shall I?" Quirrell said aloud, mostly to himself.

Just as the last of them had left, Quirrell grabbed the Duel Disks and walked off in the opposite direction.

"Come along, Giant Rat, we have work to do."

The strange hologram followed suite.

Later

I commend you for that duel, Harry. Just like your father."

"Thanks, Professor Lupin."

"You were excellent as well, Mr. Malfoy."

"Yeah, whatever."

"I'm glad you've both made a quick recovery. I'll see you both in my class once you're feeling optimal. I believe your friends are here to see you, Harry."

Lupin nodded at Ron and Hermione as he left the room.

"We brought you some food, Harry," Ron said.

"Thanks, Ron, I really needed that."

"I made sure Ron didn't try eating any of the food he was bringing you along the way."

"Oh ye of little faith, Hermione. I ate plenty already."

"That seems an impossible feat, Ron."

"Guys, can you hand me the food before you continue your witty banter?"

"Where are those stupid gits?!"

The trio turned to see Draco laying in the other bed.

"Here I am starving, and none of those imbeciles have been by to see me!"

"Draco, you need to keep it down, this is the hospital."

"Really, Granger? Because I couldn't tell!"

"I would say your crew hasn't been by to see you because you insult them so much," Ron said, "But we all know that's not true."

"I'm glad you realize that, Weasley."

Ron rolled his eyes and continued, "Honestly, I think they're just bad friends."

Draco said nothing, just turned away.

Harry sighed, "You can have one of my sandwiches, Malfoy."

Harry handed it to Ron, who placed on the desk next to Draco's bed.

"I don't need your pity, Potter."

"Whatever...well, we better get back to the dorm," Ron said.

"Madame Pomfrey said you should be out soon," Hermione said, "It was just a very sudden bout of fatigue."

"A little too sudden, if you ask me," Harry replied, "I think that was deliberate."

"Why would someone want to do that?" Hermione asked, "I mean all it did was put you in the hospital for a day. More importantly, how did they do it?"

"We'll figure it out, mate," Ron added, "Once you're feeling better."

Hermione gave Harry a quick hug, "See you soon."

The pair waved as they left the room.

"Do you really believe that, Potter? That this was intentional?"

"Don't you? That it should affect both of us at the same time. It can't be a coincidence. By the way, that was a good duel, Draco."

"Enjoy your win while you can, Potter."

Harry simply leaned back and pretended to close his eyes. Draco looked over at Harry, and when he was sure he was asleep, he reached over and began to scarf down the sandwich. Harry smiled, and then drifted off to sleep.

The next day

Harry and Draco were released from the infirmary. Ron, Hermione, and Neville were waiting, but no one showed up to greet Draco.

"Short end of the stick again, Malfoy?" Ron joked.

Draco had an annoyed look on his face, "I don't need those cretins. I need to work on my strategy for the upcoming dorm duels anyway."

Draco walked off towards the blue dorm. Just as he turned the corner, someone did show up to greet him.

"Glad to see you're in perfect health, Draco."

"Professor Snape? What are you doing here? Did you actually come to see me?"

"You are one of my students, and your parents were always there for me back when we attended here. More importantly, if Obelisk Blue is to succeed in the upcoming duels, it's become apparent that you'll need a new strategy. Let's head back to the dorm."

As they walked on, Draco continued the conversation.

"But the Blue-Eyes have been in my family for years."

"Exactly, and now everyone knows they're your strongest cards. Still, far be it for me to suggest you remove them from your deck. They're still some of the strongest cards in the game. I am merely saying that you need to change up your deck now and then to make sure you don't become predictable."

"I have plenty of other dragons I could use."

"That's a start, but I had one particular archetype in mind. One that's bound to trip up even Mr. Potter."

Draco smirked at this, "Bring it on."

Meanwhile, the trio were walking through the halls.

"Coming through!"

Several students rushed past, carrying other unconscious students.

"Harry, they look just like you did," said Hermione."

"I remember those guys," Harry replied, "Michael Corner and Justin Finch-Fletchley."

"What happened, Neville?" Ron asked as he ran by.

"Some students were doing practice duels, and then Professor Quirrell said we should be using those official school Duel Disks just like before. After the duel, they passed out. Look out, here come some more."

"Seamus and Dean?" Harry was shocked.

"And behind them," Hermione pointed out, "Anthony Goldstein and Ernie Macmillan. And behind them, that's Marcus Belby and Terry Boot."

"I'm going to make sure Seamus and Dean are okay," Neville said.

The trio ran back to the Osiris dorm.

"Is it just me, or were none of those students Obelisk Blue?" Ron commented.

"I'm sure that's just a coincidence, Ron," Hermione replied, "You don't really think this is all some elaborate scheme for the Obelisk Blue to win the dorm duels, do you?"

"Of course not. It'd be easier to just rig the game."

"I wonder if Quirrell is doing this because of Snape," Harry said mostly to himself.

"That's quite a jump in logic, Harry."

"Think about it, Hermione. Every time, it's Quirrell that insists they wear those so-called official school Duel Disks. He must've done something to them that saps a person's energy."

"But to what purpose?"

"That's the real question, isn't it?"

"What a school year," Ron said, "Students passing out, Sirius Black on the loose, what else could happen? I really wish I hadn't said that."

"Relax, Ron...now where was I? Oh yeah, so that night Snape and Quirrell were talking, they must've made a deal or something along those lines. He convinced Quirrell to go along with this scheme."

"I suppose it's plausible," Hermione said, "But if the Duel Disks are draining the energy of all these people, where is it going?"

"Again, that's a very good question."

"Do you think Sirius Black has anything to do with it?" Ron asked.

"He hasn't been seen anywhere near the school, Ron. Still, if he really does want to get Harry, he'll show up eventually."

"If he does," Harry said, "I'll be ready for him. I want to know the truth."
