Hello, everyone! Welcome to the next chapter of "Zootopia: When They Cry". Last chapter, we saw Keiichi meet Judy and Rena passing out in Nick's apartment. This time, we're going into the land of dreams. And this isn't just any dream; this is going to be Nick's childhood but with Rena being there. Enough said. Without further ado, let's begin! Chapter 7: Dreams of Childhood

Rena was lying on the ground unconscious. She groaned a bit and started opening her eyes. Once she opened them all the way, she slowly sat up. When she did, she started to stand up. After that, she checked her surroundings and was shocked at what she saw; she saw people in the town she was in only the people weren't humans. They were animals.

Animals of all shapes and sizes were walking on two legs and wearing clothes. This shocked Rena beyond belief.

"I'm definitely not in Hinamizawa anymore." She thought.

The next thing that she heard also surprised her. She heard them talking. Not making animal sounds but actually talking. Like humans. She started walking on the sidewalk, staring at the anthropomorphic animals. Unfortunately she was staring at them so much, she couldn't focus on where she was going. She bumped into someone; a donkey. She tried to apologize and ask where she was at, but the donkey turned away and kept walking.

Nervous, Rena kept on walking. She then noticed that some of the animals were looking at her. This made her more nervous.

"Why are they looking at me with those looks?" She thought.

She started to walk a bit faster. She went down a corner where she saw a house. Curious, she walked towards it. While she was walking, she noticed what was on the mailbox. It said "The Wildes". Rena walked up to the front porch. She then saw a doorbell and rang it. When there was no answer, she tried knocking. Then she heard a voice.

"Who is it?" It asked.

"Hello? Is anyone there? I'm a little bit confused about where I am. Can you possibly tell me?" Said Rena.

The girl heard the door unlock and slowly start to open. When it opened all the way, her eyes widened at what she saw. She saw a female fox. She could tell it was female because of the dress she was wearing. When the vixen saw her, she was just as surprised as she was. For a minute, there was silence. Finally, the vixen spoke.

"Um... Hello?" She said.

Rena knelt to her height while smiling. And before the vixen knew it, the strange creature was petting her. She was both surprised and confused.

"Um... what are you doing?" She asked.

"You're so cute. Especially with that dress." Said Rena.

"Um... thank you?"

They both heard another voice. It sounded like a young boy.

"Hey, Mom. What's going on?" The voice asked.

Rena looked up and saw a little fox wearing blue jeans, a light blue shirt, and a red and black baseball cap. When she saw the fox, Rena stood up and rushed inside, knocking the vixen over. The vixen quickly got to her feet and rushed after the girl.

"Hey! You can't just barge in here!" She said.

The girl paid no attention and advanced towards the little fox. The fox got a nervous look and put his paws up in defense.

"Woah woah woah! Hey, what are you doing?"

As soon as she got close, Rena picked up the fox and looked at it with a big smile on her face.

"Awwwwwwww! Look at you. You're SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ADORABLE! I wanna take you home with me." She said.

She then pulled the fox into a tight hug. It wasn't too tight though.

"Hey, I'm glad you think I'm cute and all, but could you please stop hugging me so tight? You're squeezing me to death." The fox said.

Rena's eyes widened as she realized what she was doing.

"Huh?"

She heard the vixen clear her throat and turned to her. When she did, she saw that she had a look that said, "Put my son down this instant please."

"Oh, I'm sorry. Let me put you down." She said.

After putting the fox down, he quickly ran to his mother. The girl looked at them with an embarrassed look.

"Now why in the world did you barge in my house and pick up my son like that?" Asked the vixen.

"Oh. Sorry about that ma'am." The girl apologized, "It's just that whenever I'm around cute things, I get really excited. And I wanna take that thing home with me. Although in this world, I have no idea where home is."

The vixen and her son's eyes widened and they looked at each other. They then looked at the girl again.

"You're not from this world?" The vixen asked.

Rena shook her head.

"No. I'm from a world similar to this one only animals don't walk on two legs, wear clothes, or talk. It may sound strange, but it's the truth." She said.

The vixen put a paw on her chin.

"Hmm. That sounds like a pretty strange world." She said.

For a minute, there was silence.

"You said you didn't know where home was right?" The vixen asked, breaking the silence.

Rena nodded.

"I did."

"Forgive me for asking, but how old are you?"

"I'm 15."

The vixen gasped.

"You're still a child." She said.

"How'd you get here?" The little fox asked.

Rena shrugged her shoulders.

"I don't know. All I know is I woke up in the middle of the city. What is this place anyway?" She asked.

The vixen chuckled.

"You're in the city of Zootopia. Where prey and predator live in harmony. Well, most of the time. Sometimes it's hard for us predators to get along with prey. Especially us foxes." She said.

"I'm really sorry to hear that."

"It's alright. What's your name?" The vixen asked.

Rena was surprised.

"You wanna know my name?"

The vixen nodded.

"Sure. After all, we just met each other."

"My name is Rena. Rena Ryuugu." Rena introduced.

The vixen and her son were confused by the unusual name.

"Rena Ryuugu? That's a pretty unusual name." Said the vixen.

Rena laughed a little."What's your name?" She asked.

The vixen walked up to the girl. She held up her paw for her to shake.

"My name is Mikayla. Mikayla Wilde." She said.

Rena shook her paw.

"And I'm her son, Nick Wilde." Said the little fox.

Rena shook his paw as well.

"It's nice to meet you both." She said.

Mikayla then got a look of realization.

"Oh! I just remembered. I have to go get a few things for dinner. I also have to get a surprise for Nick." She said.

Nick's eyes widened.

"A surprise? What is it?" He asked, excitedly.

The vixen chuckled.

"I'm not going to tell you, silly. It's a surprise."

"Aw, man."

Mikayla walked away to go get her purse. Nick was alone with Rena. After a minute of silence, Nick spoke up.

"So, can you tell me about yourself?"

He asked.

Rena smiled.

"Sure. I'm a human from a village called Hinamizawa." She said.

"What's Hinamizawa?" Asked Nick.

She then told Nick about Hinamizawa. She also told him what a human was. The more she told him, the more Nick became interested.

"Wow! That actually sounds... interesting." He said, "Strange but interesting."

"I'm glad you think so."

They heard footsteps. They turned to see Mikayla walking towards the door. She was about to open it when she realized something.

"Oh. Rena. I just wanted to tell you that I've been looking for a babysitter for Nick, but so far, no one would do it. You think you can do it?" She asked.

The girl nodded.

"Sure, Mikayla. I may not have had any younger siblings, but I'm sure looking after a little boy would be a piece of cake for me." She said.

"Aw, Mom. Do I really have to have a babysitter? I'm nine now. I should be old enough to be home alone." Said Nick, a little embarrassed.

The vixen chuckled."Nick, I get that you're nine and all, but you're still a little boy. Meaning someone will have to watch you. Besides, I'm sure Rena will be fun to hang around." She said.

"Yeah."

Nick looked up at Rena.

"I'm sure Nick and I will have lots of fun! I could be like a big sister to him." She said.

Mikayla laughed.

"Maybe so. Now Nick, be a good boy while I'm gone and don't be too rough on Rena. I'll try not to be gone a long time." She said.

Nick nodded.

"Okay, Mom. I promise. See ya later!" He said.

"See you later, Mikayla!" Rena said with a smile and a wave.

"See you later, kids!"

The vixen opened the door and walked out. After she closed the door, Rena and Nick looked at each other.

"So, Nick."

"Yeah, Rena?"

"What do you wanna do?"

The kit put a paw on his chin.

"Well, I was thinking we could probably play some video games together." He said.

"Video games?" The girl asked.

"Yeah, video games. Don't tell me you've never played a video game before."

"I've never played a video game before." Rena said, a little embarrassed.

"Well, you're in luck." Nick said, "I don't wanna brag, but I'm a master at video games. I can teach you how to play most of the games I've got. C'mon."

Nick went upstairs and Rena followed. Once they were upstairs, Rena was following Nick to his room. He stopped and gestured to a door.

"This is my room." He said.

He opened the door and walked in. When Rena walked in, she looked in amazement at the room she was in. There were posters of superheroes on the wall, there was a bed with green hawaiian bed sheets. There was also a packed toy box with some toys on the floor, a TV with a DVD player and a pyramid shaped gaming system, and there was a shelf stacked with DVDs, books, and games.

"Wow! You're room is so... cool." Rena said.

"Glad you like it." Nick said, "I was thinking we could play some video games on my Zootendo Game Pyramid."

"What kind of games do you have?" Asked Rena.

Nick then started looking through his games.

"Hmm. Let's see if I have a 2-player game somewhere."

It didn't take Nick long until he found a game he knew him and Rena could play. He pulled out the game and showed it to her.

"How about we play Foxio Party 7. This one's a 2-player game for sure." He said.

"Okay. Remember, I'm pretty new to this." Said Rena.

Soon, the duo were playing the game. It took Rena some time to figure out the controls, but she got used to it eventually and was having a great time. Nick would win sometimes and Rena would also win sometimes. Mainly because Nick let her. When they were done with the game, they decided to play with some of Nick's toys. Nick had a Captain Zootopia figure and Rena had a Blue Skull figure. Pretty much Nick and Rena got along and bonded pretty well. Later, the kids were laying down on the bed laughing.

"We sure had fun today, Rena." Nick said.

"Sure did." Said Rena.

The girl looked at her friend.

"I guess I'm like a big sister to you now, right?"

"Eeyup."

Just then, they heard a car door outside. They went to the window to see what was going on. They saw Nick's mother getting ready to carry in groceries.

"Your mom's here, Nick. Let's go help her with the groceries." Rena said.

"Exactly what I was thinking." Said Nick.

They quickly went downstairs and outside. Mikayla was waiting for them.

"Oh, kids. I'm glad you're here. You think you can help me carry some things in the house?" She asked.

The two kids nodded.

"Sure thing, Mom." Nick said.

They started helping the vixen with the groceries.

"I've got a surprise for you, Nick." Mikayla said.

"Cool! What is it?"

"I'm not telling you. It would ruin the surprise."

She then turned to Rena.

"And I've got you something too, Rena. A couple of things actually." She said.

"Really? What is it?" Asked Rena.

Mikayla pulled out a white dress and cap. When Rena saw it, she could've sworn she had seen it before.

"I stopped by the clothes store and found this. I thought you would look pretty in it, so I got it."

"Wow. Thank you."

"Anytime, Rena."

"What's the other thing?"

Mikayla struggled to pull the other thing out of her car. When she got it out, it was revealed to be a hatchet that looked like a combination of a hatchet and a machete.

"I found this heavy thing at an antique store. I thought maybe we could use it for something or use it for decoration." She told Rena.

"If you need help, Rena will carry that thing for you." Said Rena.

"Thank you so much, Rena."

"You're welcome, Mikayla."

Eventually, everything was brought in. Sometime later, Rena was in her dress and cap. The hatchet was standing against the wall. Nick had his eyes closed.

"Okay, Mom. Can I open my eyes now?" He asked.

"Not yet, Nicky. I'm bringing you your surprise." Said Mikayla.

The vixen pulled out a little green uniform with a green cap. She walked towards her son. She held it in front of him.

"Okay, Nicky. You can open your eyes now."

The young fox slowly opened his eyes. When he saw the uniform, he gasped in surprise.

"Is... That..."

His mother nodded.

"Yep. It's your very own Junior Ranger Scouts uniform. Do you like it?" She asked.

"If by like you mean love, then yeah! Thank you!" He said.

The vixen chuckled.

"You're welcome."

"I'm gonna go put it on. I'll be right back."

Quick as a flash, he dashed upstairs to put on his uniform. Rena and Mikayla looked at each other.

"So, how cute do you think Nick would look in his uniform?" Rena asked.

"Oh, I'm sure he'll look very cute." Said Mikayla.

A couple of seconds later, they heard footsteps coming downstairs. Soon enough, they saw Nick in his brand new uniform looking proud.

"How do I look? Nice?" He asked them.

"AWWWWWW! You look soooooooooooo adorable!" Rena cried.

In an instant, she picked up Nick and pulled him into a tight hug.

"Um... Rena... Can't breathe here." Nick said.

Realizing what she was doing, Rena quickly broke the hug and put her friend down.

"Sorry, Nick. It's just that you look so cute in that uniform." She said.

Nick laughed.

"Heh heh. It's okay, Rena."

Mikayla then walked into the kitchen and got a camera.

"Okay, kids. Please get in front of the mirror. It's time to take your picture." She told them.

"Yes, ma'am." The duo said in unison.

Once they got in front of the mirror, Mikayla held up the camera.

"Say cheese!"

The duo said "Cheese!" and Mikayla took the picture. The vixen took the photo out of the camera and looked at it with a smile.

"This is definitely going on the wall." She said.

"Well, wish me luck, ladies. This is going to be my first time being in a pack." Said Nick.

"Good luck, son. Rena and I are going to be making dinner and dessert. For dinner, we'll have frozen pizza, and for dessert, we'll have your favorite; blueberry pie." Said Mikayla.

"Mmm. Yum." Nick said as he licked his lips.

"You can say that again, little brother." Said Rena.

The little fox said goodbye to the girls and went on his way to the Junior Ranger Scouts meeting place. When he left, Rena turned to Mikayla."Hey, Mikayla.""Yes, Rena?""Is it okay if Rena helps you cook?"The vixen chuckled."Of course you can." She said.Author's Note: Well, that does it for this chapter. That doesn't mean the dream is over yet. There's more to this dream. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this chapter and I hope you're enjoying the story so far. Please be sure to read and review and keep watch for the next chapter. Constructive criticism is welcome. And before I go, I just wanted to say that my ideal voice for Mrs. Wilde would be either Nicole Oliver or Catherine Hicks. With that said, see you later, everypony!
