A/N: I don't own DBZ or Kill la Kill

Chapter 6: Bitter Memories (Teaser Chapter)

(Goku's House...Inside the Gravity Room 7:30 A.M.)

"9,998...9,999...10,000"

Goku finished doing the last of his light morning workout which consisted of 10,000 push ups, 10,000 sit ups, leg stretches, weight lifting and some light sparring in his base form before deciding to call it quits for the rest of the morning. It was an early Saturday morning and it has been 1 whole week since his official arrival back to Earth after having been gone for 5 whole years.

Except that was not the thing that was on his mind.

No. What really was bugging the Earth raised Saiyan was the incident that just happened only yesterday. The very, oh so obvious incident with a certain Ryuko Matoi. He didn't understand how or why it happened the way it did. He certainly didn't do or say anything to initiate such a response to get that kind of reaction from her.

"Well...that certainly was one hell of a kiss. I'm not dismissing her or her feelings about it or anything..I'm not even upset or angry about it surprisingly. I'm more just shocked about why it happened. Then again, matters of the heart were never my strongest suit anyways." Goku said to himself with a chuckle as he stood up from the floor and went to the control center of the Gravity Room and pressed the button causing it to power down and the pressure of the training room went back to normal levels. After that the Saiyan went back up to his house to begin the day and see what was in store for him outside.

The Saiyan closed the door to his capsulized house before donning his black mask and cloak before stepping off of his porch and walking down the street with his cloak billowing behind him. He started walking down the different neighborhoods seeing the levels of poverty as he went by. It disgusted him. Has it always been like this? How could he have not noticed the state of decay and rot that these houses were going through? He clenched his fist. Someone was going to pay for this one way or another.

He kept walking throughout the neighborhoods watching as the people went on about their daily lives seemingly not noticing him. Goku stood still for a minute and watched as a group of children were kicking around a soccer ball laughing and running as they were playing in the dirt filled road.

He smiled beneath his mask. It seems even in the most bleak of circumstances, children always found a way to enjoy life when they could.

Suddenly, the soccer ball came rolling to his feet before coming to a complete stop, leaving a small trail of dust in its wake.

One of the children came running up to grab the ball but before she did, she looked up and saw the masked face of Goku looking back down at her. She gasped and let out a squeal as she fell down on her behind, the soccer ball bouncing out of her hands and making its way back to the other kids.

Goku looked down and saw the child reaching down for the soccer ball. The girl was ten years of age that had ocean blue eyes and black hair that was tied into pigtails. she was wearing red shorts and a white short sleeved shirt that had signs of dust on them. she stared back up at him with fear and nervousness.

"I'm s-sorry m-mister." the girl apologized with a stuttering voice

Goku smiled beneath his mask and kneeled before the girl, causing her to whimper and close her eyes expecting some sort of punishment for bumping into the man. To her surprise, she felt a warm hand on the top of her head. She opened her eyes to see the strange masked man rubbing her head causing her to blush profusely.

"It's alright I'm not going to hurt you." Goku said continuing to rub the girl's head. Once he felt the girl calming down he removed his hand from her head. "What's your name?"

"Riruka" the girl replied with a big smile on her face.

"Well Riruka" Goku said as he stood up with the soccer ball in hand before tossing it up and down for extra effect. "How about we play a game and you can introduce me to your friends. How does that sound?."

Riruka nodded happily before grabbing Goku by his hand and practically dragged him towards her stunned group of friends, both of them laughing along the way.

(2 hours later...)

After introducing himself as to Riruka's friends and playing a light and fun hearted game of soccer with them (Goku obviously didnt want to destroy the entire neighborhood and the nearby districts) Goku said goodbye to his new young friends before departing that side of town.

Now the Saiyan God was walking on the sidewalk in the downtown district with his hands in his pockets. The afternoon sun was shining on his black mask and cloak causing his glowing green eyes to be seen through the visor giving him an otherworldy look causing pedestrians to look at him with awe and a little bit of fear. But the Saiyan didnt pay attention to any of that. He was lost in his own thoughts, while he was walking.

(Flashback/Reminiscing)

Goku was overcome with shock when he first heard the news. Was he sure he heard her right? Chichi...sick? There was just...no way. How could Chichi of all people get sick? For as long as he was married to her, she has never gotten sick in her entire life. Not even anything as simple as a common cold. So for her to contract a sickness that was attacking her at the cellular level was near impossible and hard to believe.

"Sir?"

It has to be a joke. it just has to be. A practical one that someone put together just for their own amusement. To make it seem like it was made for a captive audience.

"Sir!"

And there he was sitting in the audience...just waiting for the punch line to come.

"Sir!"

Hasn't he done enough? Hasn't he constantly fought and struggled for the sake of the universe and its people in it so that they get to wake up to a new sunrise and a better tomorrow ignorantly unaware of the dangers that lurk beyond this planet and its solar system? What more could he possibly do to make sure that human lives stayed safe? he has practically given life, body, and soul twice and endured many, many, many, physically and emotionally damaging hardships that would make a lesser man give up and die right then and there. But no...Not Son Goku. Goku always prided himself on being able to persevere through anything and coming out on top like a champion. always overcoming his limitations and reaching pinnacles of greater power.

"Sir!"

Overcoming limits was Goku's greatest achievement. It was practically his God given birthright and lineage to do just that while having Godlike powers as an added bonus.

And yet...why was it this revelation that kept holding him down? That kept the sinking feeling down in the depths of his being? What is it that can cause a man of his caliber to feel so...help-

"MR. SON!" The nurse practically shouted at the top of her lungs.

"WHAT!?" Goku growled as he stood up quickly from his seat in the lobby, his eyes turning a bright red as his hair started to rise and turn the exact same shade of red as well. Seeing the young nurses frightened look, Goku's eyes and hair quickly turned back to black and he calmed down instantly with a look of sorrow on his face.

"I'm sorry...i didnt mean to frighten you. Th-this is just a lot to take in is all."

The young nurse let out a nod of understanding her yellow eyes and blonde hair bouncing along with the movement under her white cap.

"I...I understand. News like this is unexpected and always hard to take in."

The nurse's eyes took on an even sadder look and she stared down at her clipboard before hugging it tightly to her chest and she stared back up at Goku.

"B-but I'm afraid i have even more troubling news sir."

Goku quickly looked back at the young nurse with widened eyes.

"Wh-what is it?"

The young nurse shifted uncomfortably in place before replying "Well Mr. Son...it concerns your wife again. From what the doctors told me and have confirmed themselves. It seems that she only has a matter of days to live. Five to be exact. The illness is progressing at a fast rate and the medicine we are giving her isn't doing anything to make her feel better. The most we can do is give her morphine to ease her pain. You should contact your family and friends to make the proper arrangements and prepare to say goodbye. I am so sorry Mr. Son."

Goku couldn't believe it. he thought it couldn't get any worse than this, but lo and behold there it was.

After thanking the nurse (whose name was Yuki) and watching her walk away, Goku slumped back against the wall before slowly sliding to the floor. The Saiyan was not able to speak in that moment...not able to breathe.

He thought that he would be able to have more time with her now that Frieza was dead and gone. Sure he was not the greatest husband and father in the world, but he loved his family with his entire being. Even if he didnt know how to show it in the correct way, everything he fought, did, and endured was for their sake, not his.

His family...his children.

Oh God, his family and children. What was he going to tell Gohan? What was he going to tell Goten? What was he going to tell the Ox King? That their mother and his daughter who was just fine not only a couple a days ago, will not make it through the end of the week? This was just not fair.

It was here in this hospital lobby that Son Goku learned several agonizing truth's...

Some fights cannot be won in the most conventional method...Some battles cannot be fought with great physical strength and Universal Destructive power...The Universe can give, but the Universe can also take away...

But this truth right here was the one that changed his sunny disposition outlook on life completely.

No matter how strong you are...no matter how powerful you become...you cannot save everyone and everything.

And for the first time in 45 years, The Super Saiyan God known as Son Goku had tears falling down his face and he let out a quiet sob of anguish.

No matter how much you struggle and how much you fight, The Universe can giveth...and The Universe can taketh away.

(Flashback/Reminiscing end)

Son Goku stopped in the middle of the sidewalk and looked up at the afternoon sky with his masked face and his eyes glowing a softer green from before. "I promise Chichi...I will make things right again in this world...for you...

An image of Ryuko and Satsuki popped into his head.

And for them." he finished with a serious look under his mask.

"Mr. Sun Wukong...was it?" a stern, but at the same time gentle feminine voice replied from behind the Earth raised Saiyan, interrupting his thoughts.

Goku blinked and turned around to see who called him and his eyes widened in shock and wonder at who stood before him.

In all her beautiful glory that had men (and some women) swooning and weak in the knees, stood one of the most beautiful women to stand in front of the Saiyan God and one of the two girls that had become so entwined in his life and they had yet to meet.

There in front of Goku with firm eyes and a gentle frown stood the leader of Honnoji Academy...

Satsuki Kiryuin.
