Chapter 55
The Dress
Over the past few months I've been thinking about my old family. Alice has been giving me updates on them. My mom is going to buy my little brother a cat for his birthday. That's pretty much all that's new. I feel like a bother for asking Alice to keep a watch on them. They aren't my family anymore. I never was apart of their family. So, why am I so concerned about them?
My dad could be scheming a way to hurt them, but should that bother me? I guess after everything I have been through, I do want them to be well. I don't know how to feel anymore. I don't know what to think either. Every thought that comes to my brain is rushing. Once it appears in my brain it is quickly leaving. Even when I was a human, I always had scattered thoughts. I see that hasn't changed.
"Lori~!" Alice called out to me when she knocked on the door to my house.
Oh yeah, I'm getting married soon.
I wanted a winter wedding theme. Alice took that too literally. We have invited humans to the wedding. So, to make ourselves maintain our human facade, we will be wearing heavy clothing just like them. She's going to arrange all the seats be heated and they have options for heating packs. She thought of everything.
That's one of the pros to having Alice in my life. I don't have to plan my perfect wedding because she knows what I want and like.
I answer the door and in come Alice with dresses. I glance at her, not getting why we must do this.
"Just because I know what's best, doesn't mean I want you to miss out on one of the best parts about getting married. Picking out the dress." She says with her usual Alice smile.
"So, you want me to try on dresses…"
"Yes, and then later today I arranged for us to go pick out a wedding cake."
"We won't eat it."
"It's not for us. It's for the guests and the kids. You can tolerate the human food better than Jasper and I. So, you will be choosing the flavor and I already have a few designs I want you to pick one from."
"I don't remember Bella having to do this."
"She's Bella…" Alice placed the dresses, that were in black bags, onto the bed and turned to me. "Change into each one and come out to show me. Esme will be here shortly."
She closed the door and left me in the bedroom with three covered dresses on my bed. I exhale a bit and start unzipping the left one.
I pulled out a laced A-line wedding gown. It has illusion sleeve and a butterfly back that zips up under fabric covered buttons.
"That one has an organza skirt." Alice stated through the door.
I smile to myself and start getting into the dress when I undressed myself.
The dress has a sweetheart neckline, I think. It certainly showed off my boobs. Not something I would reach for, but now that it's on me I do have to admit I look good.
The sleeves ended at my wrist with delicate flower and leaf patterns. The design went all the way to around my stomach are and then trailed up the dress form the bottom. The skirt flowed with my movement and it was mesmerizing.
I nod to myself and then pull out the next one. It is a soft, romantic ballgown that gives me more of a princess vibe. I halfheartedly put it on, knowing I wouldn't like it. It was too simple for me.
It had off shoulder sleeves and ruched details on the high back. It was the same with the zipper and the buttons. There were some tulle pleats on the skirt.
Yeah, it was too princess dress for me. It's very lovely though.
The next dress had me in shock for a bit. It had tulle layers for the skirt, long sleeves, deep v neckline, and lace on the sleeves and edges. It came with a silver belt around the waist that had beads and diamonds on it. The layers of the skirt gave it a very 'look at me' vibe. The buttons weren't covered with fabric. They were crystals.
When I looked at myself in the mirror, I had an urge to weep contentedly. Nothing came.
I walked out of the room to see them standing there with smiles on their faces.
"This one…" I said softly.
"Perfect. Now let me fit you and that'll be all."
"You do look lovely." Esme said and gave me a hug.
"I…I want my mom to also be there. I want her to walk me down the aisle and to have a mother and daughter dance." I spoke. I had this overwhelming feeling of missing her. It came out of nowhere.
Esme ran a hand over my cheek. "We already talked to her. She said she's coming with or without her husband."
"It wasn't clear if she would arrive. So, as the days got closer, it began to clear more. Right now, she is certain to come. I even sent her a dress, heels, and necklace. She's going to get them tomorrow and call me to tell me she adores them."
I nod a bit and look down at my dress that is being fitted to me.
"Will Jasper like this dress?"
"First off, it doesn't matter if he will or not. It's your day. Second, yes." Alice put her hands on her hips as she looked me over once, twice more. "Perfect. Okay, get out and go choose the cake."
"Can't I just say vanilla?" I huff.
She eyed me with narrow eyes. "Fine. Boring vanilla it is."
"I don't want to have anything flower flavored. That's gross and I won't torture my guests like that."
"It's trendy." Alice pouted.
"It's gross."
"Fine. Now get out of the dress so I can have it tailored."
I held up my hands and went to my bedroom to change.
Score one for Lori.
