Before Tommy could even scream at Liz to move, the bang had echoed throughout the park and people were screaming loudly, pulling their child away from the park. It was as Tommy rushed to pull out his gun when he heard another bang. Looking back to the man who was holding the gun, Tommy saw him on the floor, clinging onto his leg, screaming loudly in pain. Furrowing his brows, Tommy didn't understand what he was seeing.

Looking to his wife, it all made apparent sense. He saw her stood tall, her arm stretched in front of her and a gun in her fingertips. Tommy frowned, his breath panting as he moved towards her, but Liz was focused on the man on the ground. Her gaze was even and her body still, unlike Tommy who couldn't stop himself from shaking.

"I imagine the police are on the way," Elizabeth spoke and Tommy wondered what the hell was going on. He nodded his head, well aware that someone would have called the police by now, no doubt telling them what they had witnessed. The only bright side was the power Tommy wielded over the police.

"You should keep an eye on him until they arrive," Elizabeth urged her husband.

"Liz…" Tommy whispered her name as he looked down to Charlotte who was stood by her mother's side in awe. "What…"

"Just keep an eye on him, Thomas," Elizabeth demanded her husband, not once taking her eyes from the assassin. "Or I may be tempted to do something that I should not."

Nodding, Tommy took the gun from his wife, leaning into her to whisper in her ear. "Take Charlotte away from here," he urged from her. Looking to her husband for a brief moment, she knew exactly what was going on in her husband's mind as he took the gun from her. She didn't complain, nor did she argue with him.

Instead she bent down to pick Charlotte up, holding her daughter in her arms as Charlotte wrapped her little legs around her mother's waist. Moving down the park, Elizabeth made sure her daughter couldn't see anything as her father kicked at the man on the floor, beating him to within an inch of his life before the police came for him.

"Mummy, what happened?" Charlotte asked of her mother.

"A bad man wanted to hurt us," Elizabeth said. "Your father is waiting for the police to take him away."

Charlotte frowned. "But why did he want to hurt us?" she continued to fret.

"Because there are bad people, Charlotte," Elizabeth declared. "There are bad people who want to do nasty things, but you do not need to worry, do you understand me? Mummy and daddy will always protect you. We will always protect you, my sweet little girl."

Elizabeth made her way back to the car, well aware that Tommy had the keys. She waited outside the vehicle, well aware that Tommy would be there sooner rather than later. People were watching as they passed by, no doubt knowing what Elizabeth had done. She should have stayed behind to tell the police, but she was simply focused on getting Charlotte out. Then again, if the police asked for eyewitnesses, she doubted anyone would come forwards. People did not get involved in business of the Peaky Blinders.

It was half an hour before Tommy returned to them, holding his arm out and taking Elizabeth by the waist as Charlotte rushed forwards to wrap her arm around her father's waist, holding tightly onto him.

"It's alright, eh?" Tommy said, looking between the both of them. "The bad man is with the police now."

Elizabeth looked Tommy in the eye once he had finished kissing Charlotte on the top of her head. He opened the car door and helped Charlotte into the back seat, hoisting her up and then kissing her once more on the forehead. Walking around the other side of the car with Elizabeth, he spoke to her in a hushed tone.

"I told the police I shot 'im," he said.

"Why?"

"Because," was all that Tommy offered her. "We need to talk when we get 'ome."

"Agreed."

Once Elizabeth had urged Charlotte to take a nap, a sense of relief came over her. It was the first moment she had processed that her daughter was safe. She had survived and she was home now. It was all Lizzie cared about. As soon as she had put her into the bed once the clock had struck four, she wandered back to their chamber to find Tommy sat on the edge of the bed.

"Changretta sent him," Tommy informed her.

"That was obvious," Elizabeth responded, folding her arms over her chest as she sauntered into the room. "What is not obvious is how we are going to deal with them?"

Tommy shook his head as he heard her. "We'll discuss that in a minute," he waved off and moved to his feet, tugging at his waistcoat and feeling his pocket watch inside of it. "What I want to talk about 'is 'ow you did it."

Elizabeth looked perplexed. "How did I do what?" she wondered of her husband.

"How yer knew he was goin' to shoot," Tommy said. "I was lookin' out and I didn't see 'im until 'e 'ad 'is gun pulled out."

Elizabeth felt Tommy's hands take hold of her waist, his thumbs roaming to her hipbones and stroking them softly. "I do not know really," Elizabeth informed him. "I was just looking around he looked at me. I…I just knew something was wrong and I have been keeping the gun in my purse. I was quicker than he was and I shot him in the leg before he could shoot me or Charlotte. Tommy…our daughter was there…I do not know if he was aiming at her, but…I…I felt sick and it was his life or hers."

Tommy nodded. "Yer did the right thin'," he assured his wife, kissing her chastely. "And yer only wounded 'im."

Elizabeth smirked. "I am going to assume you did a lot more damage than I did."

Tommy looked at her seriously. "Yer think I was goin' to let the man who was goin' to 'urt my wife and daughter get away without a beatin'?"

Elizabeth draped her arms over his shoulders. "Not for one second."

"Correct," Tommy said and kissed her once more. "And I never want to see anythin' like that again."

"There is only one way to make certain that happens," Elizabeth informed him. "We need to take down Changretta."

"The business is expanding at a fast rate," Elizabeth informed her husband as she looked over the books. "If you want to expand to a bigger factory then I think it would be possible. Of course, you would need to speak with the bank to see if a loan might be possible."

"Aye," Tommy agreed.

Both of them were sat at their desks on the very same evening, Charlotte still sleeping soundly. She had missed dinner, but Elizabeth had saved some supper for her in case she awoke. She was only glad that their daughter was safe.

"However, I have heard that there might be an issue with revolutions and strikes," Elizabeth said. "Some of the women are angry that they are not being paid the same as men."

Tommy pulled out a cigarette from his pocket and lit it up. "Women don't work as 'ard as men."

"I disagree," Elizabeth said and Tommy's lips quirked upwards.

"I thought yer might," Tommy said.

"I think that you should consider it," Elizabeth said. "We cannot afford to have people striking if you want to keep expanding the business…well…the legal business."

Elizabeth knew that Tommy had tried his best to go legitimate in the business, but she also knew him. She knew that there were things he did off the books. At one time she would have balked and demanded for him to stop. In fact, she once had. But now…now she was not the same person she was back then. She had learned that life was not fair. If people were willing to screw you over to get to the top, then you had to screw them over twice fold.

"And if I go back to work?" Elizabeth wondered of him. "Will you cope without your family?"

"I'd manage," Tommy informed her. "Although it'd be nice to 'ave yer as my second in command."

"Pol has that position."

"Pol is in jail."

"Not for much longer, I hope," Elizabeth arched a brow in his direction while Tommy moved to his feet and walked towards his wife, standing behind her chair and bending down, his arms coming around her shoulders as his hands rested in hers against her stomach.

"They'll be out in two months if I get my way," Tommy promised her. "And I'm serious. I want yer to be my second in command. Both yer and Pol…just think about it, Liz."

Lizzie shook her head. "Business is not for me," she responded.

"Yer can do the books," Tommy said. "Yer know how I work and how business is done."

"Tommy, I do some sums for you once every few days," Elizabeth said. "That does not constitute being able to run a company with you. Besides, working together would drive us mad, wouldn't it? You would get fed up of me nagging."

"But we'd be powerful, Liz," Tommy whispered into her ear. "Both of us together…yer know that no one would mess with us."

"Most people dare not mess with us now, Tommy," she spoke with a soft voice before turning her cheek to the side and kissing him tenderly. "Most people who know us, anyway."

"And those who don't will soon find out," Tommy declared.

"Correct, Mr Shelby," Elizabeth spoke and then moved to her feet, a hand going to stroke Tommy's cheek as his gaze met hers and his hands wrapped around her and dipped into the small of her back. "But you are not going to change my mind, Tommy. I like the thrill of business, I cannot deny it, but I also like teaching. I want to go back to what I like."

Tommy nodded as she continued to softly stroke his cheek. "Who would 'ave thought it," Tommy said. "My wife…the shy and meek Elizabeth Kimber…turned into a gun wielding, business loving Shelby."

Elizabeth laughed at hearing him, the noise shrill and soft. "I do not think so," she informed him. "I have not changed all that much. I am still me…just…I see things differently. I think we both have had to."

"Aye," Tommy agreed.

Before they could say anything else, the door burst open and Charlotte came trundling in. Elizabeth moved from Tommy as Charlotte rushed towards both of them. Taking her daughter by her shoulder, she looked down to her as Charlotte peered up, her hair pooling around her shoulders and down her back as her wide eyes looked to her mother.

"I missed dinner," she complained.

"You did," Elizabeth agreed, "but I saved you some stew downstairs."

"But it is night," Charlotte responded.

"So you do not want it?"

Charlotte looked confused. "Can I have it?" she wondered back.

"Well, come with me and we can heat it up and you can have a late dinner," Elizabeth said and Charlotte took hold of her hand. "And maybe I will let you sleep for longer in the morning."

Turning to look over her shoulder at Tommy, Elizabeth offered him a kind smile before leading their daughter into the kitchen for dinner. Tommy went back to his desk and settled down in his seat, hands spread out on his desk while he thought of everything he could do to put Luca Changretta back in his place.

A/N: Do let me know what you think!
