73 Destruction.
"Ada! Ada!"
The cry of terror echoed around the cavernous halls of the Elvenking's rocky fortress as Thranduil leapt from the chair in which he had been idly contemplating the contents of his goblet. He was out of the door and heading across the corridor to his small son's room when the next cry came.
"Ada!"
"I am here Legolas!" He breathed and reached to lift his beloved child from the twisted sheets of his bed. "Hush, meleth." He soothed again. "I am here."
Turning to seat himself on the single, padded chair in the room he hugged his son closer, placing gentle kisses on top of his golden head. He waited patiently, allowing his own love and calming nature to soothe the child and allow his tears and trembling to cease.
"Another dream Ion nin?" He questioned once the small prince had quietened.
"Yes, Ada." The child whispered brokenly.
"Do you want to tell me?"
Thranduil knew that Legolas would not be pushed, even at this young age his stubbornness was apparent.
"I couldn't stop it Ada!" The youngling hiccoughed and continued apace. "It was too fast and too strong! And the bang hurt my ears. And all the people flew away when the wall broke!"
"It is alright, little one," Thranduil cooed softly when Legolas finally paused for breath. "You are safe now. It is gone. It can't hurt you. You are awake my precious one. It was only a dream."
The king continued his quiet litany, stroking the golden head of the child he loved more than life and watching as that child gradually relaxed into sleep once more. He smiled, wondering at the resilience of youth. His son was still too young for waking dreams and would have no recollection of this night's disturbance when he awoke. All too soon these nightmares would become a thing of the past and he would miss the nights spent sitting with this small bundle snug in his arms. If only they could stay like this forever.

Thanks for reading. I know I probably write too much about these two but I just can't help it!
Special thanks to LadyLindariel and KShadeslady for their lovely reviews for the last chapter. It always warms my heart to hear someone has enjoyed my little efforts.
