Chapter 27 Unmasking

Oh my Gosh. I am So Sorry. I did not realize it's been two years since I updated. Please Forgive me, and my muse for being neglectful. I hang my head in shame for leaving you all with a hospitalized Kyle and no answers.

By the Way I'm not sure if Kyle is going to be the only mate with scars on his face, or if I'm going to leave Emily with the Scars so Kyle will have someone to relate to. At the moment I'm not sure how he would get onto the reservation to even meet Emily.

Once again Kyle awoke in the morning from his sedative, and as promised Carlisle was right next to him when he awoke.

"Morning Grandpa." Kyle mumbled.

"Morning Son." He smiled back from his chair.

"Is Dr. Price here?" This had been Kyles first question every day when he woke up in the hospital. Carlisle chuckled,

"You're still as eager to get out of here and your first morning."

"Yes, I've been stable for a while now, and any chance of infection is over. He should be able to sign me out now, right." Kyle had been aching to get out of the hospital for a week. He'd had nothing but his uncomfortable bed and whispering nurses all around looking in on his bandages. Kyle still hadn't seen his face without his bandages, but was told that the swelling was completely down and that today would be the day that he would finally get to go home and get his bandages taken off.

"Check outs aren't until 7." Carlisle smiled as his grandson fell back into his bed and grumbled into his pillow. It was only 6 in the morning. "I'll go Check to see if he's in yet." With his face still in the pillow Kyle smirked, and hope that Dr. Price was in as he heard Carlisle leave.

He didn't return for but about ten minutes, but Carlisle had Price with him.

"Morning Kyle." Dr. Price smiled, "I hear you're eager to leave us."

"Yeah, Can I go?" Kyle smiled. Even with the bandage covering half of his face, Kyles Bright eyes still made his expression adorable. Dr. Price chuckled and moved over to Kyles right side to start taking off his bandages.

"I believe so Kyle. Once we take these bandages off." He answered trying not to smile at the boy. Kyle was fidgeting with excitement. Kyle was eager to get out of this uncomfortable non porcelain bed. "Once we check over your wounds, and Carlisle will be seeing over your home care, so there's no need for me to go over that, I'll sign you out."

"Great!" Kyle smiled widely.

Dr. Price carefully peeled the bandages, starting from the top of Kyles face to his chin. Kyle was watching Carlisle hold an exaggerated smile of encouragement. He knew that his grandpa was nervous about him seeing his face. Carlisle hadn't allowed it until the swelling had gone down and the bandages would be taken off for good. Kyle could tell that it was bad by how Carlisle eyes widened slightly when his face was revealed.

"Good. The bruising is gone and the scars aren't as wide as it was before." Dr. Price reassured him, but Kyle is still a little anxious by what he's going to see.

"Can I go have a look?" Kyle asked slowly. Both doctors nodded and Kyle immediately jumped out of the bed to go to the bathroom mirror.

At first, Kyle didn't recognize the person looking at him and stepped back for a moment. The right side of his face was completely smooth except for the three large scratched running the side of his face, and a smaller one that cut through the side of his lips.

'This is me. I didn't think it would be this bad.'

He stood there for a few minutes alone. Carlisle and Dr. Price giving him a minute to process, but by the second Kyles misery was worsening. He soon felt Carlisle enter the bathroom and stand behind him to look at him in the mirror and hold him.

"It's going to be okay Kyle." Carlisle whispered behind Kyle.

"How?" Kyle turned around to look incredulously at him, and then dropped his head into his grandfather's chest. Carlisle wrapped his arms around him. This town was probably filled with 100 rumors on Kyles accident that stretched from a bear attack that put him into a coma to the Cullen parents abusing him. "I can't go to school like this, or go out into town. The second anyone sees me all they are going to do is look at my scars. Or whisper behind my back. How do I even explain how I got them?"

"We'll worry about what others are going to say later. And you don't have to explain anything you don't want to." Carlisle whispered to him trying to soothe him with his voice. "Rosalie and Emmett already decided that come next year you will be homeschooled. So you won't have to deal with any unnecessary stares or questions." Carlisle knew that if Kyle went back to school now he wouldn't be able to handle everyone's gossip.

"When can we go?" Kyle didn't want to spend another second here.

"Dr. Price left when I came in to sign you out. We'll leave as soon as you get dressed."

Without a word, Kyle peeled himself from Carlisle's grip to change into the clothes that had been dropped off for him the day before and changed as quickly as he could.

Kyle spent the entire car ride home in a depressed state. Now that he was going home like he wanted, he realized that in the entire week he had been in the hospital that Rosalie hadn't been allowed to come see him. Alice kept getting visions of Rosalie seeing Kyle in a hospital bed, then immediately crossing over to the treaty line to kill Leah. Alice saw their family winning most of the time, but Kyle would always be scarred with the loss of Leah and would either grow to resent Rosalie or become depressed. In one of her visions Kyle actually died shielding Leah from Rosalie. After that Rosalie didn't bring up the argument of getting to see her son, but it didn't stop her from being extra irritable. So Kyle knew when he got home that Rosalie wouldn't let him out her sight for the foreseeable future. The state of his face was also going to be the cause of her complaints. This also made Kyle worried for Leah. Carlisle had explained that it wasn't usual to bond with an imprint at your first look, but Kyle was already becoming attached to her and didn't want her hurt. He also missed her and wasn't allowed to call her while she was in the hospital; which Kyle thought was pointless. How could just talking to her as opposed to actually being around her be a problem.

Kyle was pulled out of his thoughts when he noticed that the car stopped to let the garage doors open, and the backdoor slammed open.

"Rosalie, don't say a word about his face" Carlisle whispered, too low for Kyle to hear.

Rosalie rushed to the car just as Kyle got out of the passenger side. Without seeing his face, Rosalie wrapped her arms around her son. "Oh I missed you!"

"Hi mom." Kyle answered slowly ash Rosalie pulled away from him to get her first look at his face.

- I'm going to kill that wolf- Rosalie thought as she held Kyles face in her hands with her fixed smile. Kyle new that smile and knew Rosalie was thinking of different ways to dispose of Leah's body.

"Stop thinking what you're thinking mom." Kyle said and then kissed her cheek. Since Rosalie's response was to be considered the worst of the bunch, Kyle followed Carlisle into the house with Rosalie with him to see the rest of the family sitting in the living room. Emmett was waiting in the walkway to hug Kyle first.

"Hey how's my boy?" Emmett smiled as he bear hugs Kyle. Kyle smiled cuddled himself into his father's hug.

"I'm so happy to be out of that hospital." Kyle said in his chest.

"I know you are." Esme said coming around from behind Emmett to get her hug. "Carlisle said you would barely eat the hospital. Are you hungry?" she smiled knowing that he was, and would probably eat anyway even if he wasn't.

"Yes, yes, please yes!"

"I'll make you some Stir Fry."

Thanks grandma." Kyle smiled at her as she smiled then kissed his scarred cheek.

Suddenly Rosalie could be heard from the kitchen arguing with Carlisle. Kyle hadn't noticed that they hadn't followed them to the rest of the family. Apparently they had been having a quieter argument until now. Kyle followed Esme until they came to the Kitchen door, and stayed out of sight so he can listen in.

"That thing is not coming anywhere near him again!" Rosalie hissed.

"I's too late." Carlisle answered.

"What!"

"Kyle has already bonded to her."

What!" She screamed. "They only looked at each other. It never happens that fast. And she attacked him, how could he possibly still want to be with her!"

"She explained to him that it was an accident. She was trying to get to you."

"She was at the hospital! How could you let her anywhere near Kyle!"

Trying to keep his patience at her yelling and called over her, "She called my phone and explained!"

"Why would you, you know what, I don't care! Kyle is never to see her again."

Kyles POV

It was becoming hard to breathe. I felt myself fall against the wall, but couldn't make myself care.

-Why is this happening. How could the thought of never seeing her again hurt? –

"Kyle!" my mother called as she sat in front of me with her hands on my face to make me look at her. For reasons I can't understand, I am suddenly angry at her. At first I tried to push her away, but she didn't budge. Instead once I got my breath back I stood and walked away from her to head for my room. She made to follow behind me but suddenly stopped. Everyone else also stiffened. I could hear my mother growling behind me.

"What is it?" I asked. No one answered but they all stood quickly then ran out the front door.

"Let me go!" I heard mother yelling. When I followed outside, I saw dad was holding her against him as she struggled.

As I followed the line of sight that everyone was watching ready for a fight; Six giant wolves came out of the tree line. The big black on in the center I knew was Sam from the meeting at the treaty line. I'm pretty sure the dark brown one Jacob. But I definitely new that the beautiful, yet smaller one, that had pure white fur had to be Leah.

-How does she stay so pretty when she runs through the forest all day? -

Edward saw my admiration and whispered, "Kyle try to focus."

The wolves had only come out of the tree line to show that they were there; any closer and they would have been considered an automatic threat.

"We are not here to fight." Edward spoke for Sam. "Leah only wanted to check on Kyle."

"You will never go near Kyle again!" Mother yelled at the pack, and renewed you attempts to get free of Emmett.

I still couldn't understand why my mother has such a hatred for the pack, and why she would want to keep me from someone who is supposed to be meant for me. Everyone else in the family had their mate and were completely happy. Why would mine be such a bad thing? Suddenly I saw Leah fall to the ground making a painful whining. I can't really understand why, but I couldn't stand there watching her in pain. I ran to her. None of the family tried to stop me.

"Kyle stay away from her!" my mom yelled. For once I didn't listen to her. I couldn't. Somehow I could feel her pain radiating through me. Once I reached the tree line, I sunk to my knees next to her, and wrapped my arms around her smooth furry neck. She moved her head to rub against mine. She felt so warm and soft, "I'll never leave you." I whispered to her, but I knew everyone heard me.

No POV

All the wolves gasped when Kyle hugged Leah.

-Oh Dang-

-Oh No-

-Brace yourself Leah-

All the wolves thought at once as they got a good look at the right side of Kyles face.

-What is it? - Leah thought as she leaned back from Kyle to look at him. –What have I done! - she fell into Kyles arms again to cry. –I'm so Sorry! -

Kyle didn't need Edward to translate to know what Leah was whimpering. Edward heard it though and his heart soften for the genuine regret she felt for hurting Kyle. Like most of the family, they still believed that Leah had acted out of instinct instead of attempting to protect Kyle.

"It's Okay." Kyle whispered as he hugged her with a kiss on top of her head, and stroked her back to comfort her as she cried.

I'm sorry again that this took so long to write and update again. I had been thinking about coming back to the story, but have been completely in writers block for a while.

Hope this chapter was up to your standards.

See you next time!
