Chapter Four — Point
Kagome was relaxing within the confines of her artfully arranged apartment—a gift from her rather flamboyant and immensely rich friends, who uncaringly threw around money the same way people breathed. Really, they spent money so easily—giving it away or spending it on only the very best quality. In fact, they even set up a bank account especially for her and would put in what they considered a small amount of money as her allowance. Even if she went out and spent ten thousands of yen each day, she'd be a millionaire by the end of a measly two months.
"Insanely extravagant," Kagome muttered to herself, eyeing everything within seeing range from the comfy black sofa she was sprawled on.
Even if they were extravagant, they did lavish the spacious housing with comfy furniture and cute things that suited her taste incredibly well.
She smiled.
They always took care of her, no matter the era.
Speaking of one of her dear-to-her-heart, outrageous friends, one of them was calling—one that she was especially close to.
Grabbing her phone from the sofa arm and flipping it open in one motion, she hummed and in a sing-song voice said, "Hello."
[You seem to be in a better mood than this morning.] he commented, happiness lacing his words. Kagome smiled, letting out a pleased sigh as she pressed her cellphone to her ear.
"I saw the most amusing thing today," was her reply, "as I was coming home from school. I saw a boy—"
[Oya? A boy? I have to know this.]
She bit back a giggle as she heard shuffling on the other end of the line. "Hush, Shippo-chan, don't tease me. As I was saying, I saw this boy and he looked rather… demonic."
There was a brief pause before she heard a choked laugh and then full out, deep, guffaws. [Demonic?] the red head's tone was incredulous, [Demonic, you say? I must know who this boy is to make you call him demonic.]
"I thought you would say something like that," Kagome admitted, "For a human to describe another human to a yōkai as demonic is rather amusing."
[More than amusing,] Shippo mused, [And the human that is giving the description has seen her fair share of yōkai too.]
"And how beautiful were they," Kagome sighed, a slight amount of bitterness in her voice. "Well, the more powerful ones, anyways."
[Beauty and power, a combination that elicits envy from others.]
Kagome laughed. "Not to mention a fair share of daiyōkai have eye-catching colouring, special abilities besides enhanced senses and physical ability, speed and are incredibly smart. It's not even worth wondering why humans hated yōkai."
[And why yōkai think of humans as feeble, insignificant and worthless—you guys can barely compare.] Shippo continued, [I'm one hundred percent sure that's why Koga decided to become a athletic trainer and his unspoken reason for founding a company that supplies all kinds of sport equipment.]
Kagome repositioned herself so she was sitting against the sofa arm, twirling a strand of her hair around her index finger. "You know Koga. He respects guts and if you don't have any, well, he'll gut you. Patience is something he isn't really well stocked with."
[Plus the ōkami spares little interest for the weak.]
"Well, he's just trying to improve humanity."
[In his own twisted way.]
"He's a yōkai, everything he does is twisted."
[Well… you have a point there.]
