Chapter Five — Surprise

It seemed she was getting more and more attached to her cellphone. While she really didn't regret since she was finally acting like a 'normal' teenage girl of her era, she really thought it was annoying that she was continuously being bombarded with calls.

For people who wanted to "give her space" and "let her adjust to a pro-human society" they sure didn't understand that she could take care of herself in her own damn time.

"Remind me again, why I actually listened to you?"

[The kit said you weren't making any friends and I thought you liked sports] was the ōkami's response. ['Sides the adrenaline and hype ain't the same as a real fight but it's kinda similar enough.]

"First of all, I think having you all as friends is good enough. Besides that, I have to catch up on my studies. Also, 'similar enough'?"

Kōga would've laughed if he were talking to anyone else.

Kagome was using that tone.

"Yes, because in sports you see people being maimed, gutted or die all the time."

[That didn't happen all the time.]

"Name one time you didn't get hurt."

[Well — ah — er… ]

"I should've gone to those supplemental Saturday classes but no, you convince me to skip and go to the nearest sporting event."

[Bah! You don't need those classes! 'Sides watching a competition is more interesting than learning about those stupid formulas with no real life application!]

"That has got to be the smartest thing you've ever said. In your life."

Kōga let out a strangled noise. [I knew I shouldn't have let you stay with that Mutt-Face! Geh! You're starting to sound like him! You're giving me the creeps, Kagome!]

Kagome laughed. For the first time in a while and it felt so good. She felt free for once. She fingered the beads on her necklace. It was nice to be reminded of what he was — when he was remembered as something other than her protector.

"I picked up his skill in insulting I guess," she agreed. "But my temper's all me."

[Yeah, I know. Sexy little firecracker you are.]

"I should slap you for that."

[Wha — OI!]

"It's my knee jerk reaction to hearing something Miroku would've said," Kagome admitted with a gigle. "Looked like a monk but was a lech through and through."

[Geez, you've gotten snippy, huh?] Kōga muttered to himself. [I can hear girly squealing — what kind of sport are you watching?]

Kagome looked at the other side of the field. The teens in uniform were garbed in white and blue while the majority were girls holding up posters decorated in hearts. "American Football."

[American Football? Ho… You're in for a surprise.]

Kagome didn't like that tone.

"…What do you mean by 'surprise'?"

She was starting to get an uneasy feeling.

[You'll see — I gotta go, Sesshōmaru ordered to meet some principal or whatever. Later Kagome!]

"Wait — Kōga!"

Kagome glared down at her phone. The ōkami had already ended the call.

"What does he mean by 'surprise'? He's so cheeky… And I doubt watching a human sport will be any exciting… "

Kagome watched as the Deimon team, in red, lined up against the white and blue team. Kagome noted that her school's opposing team were the popular choice if the screaming fangirls, chanting and tv crews were anything to go by. Her keen eyes noted a group of male teen sitting in the upper bleachers, dressed in yellow dōgi. They were watching the field quite intently if the binoculars were anything to go by.

Kagome returned her attention to the field. The players weren't all that remarkable except those tall and beefy players facing off against each other. But she did note that the blond, demonic teen she saw the other week was on the field and a twig-thin kid behind him. In fact, Kagome found herself comparing the kid from the hallway to the skinny player.

Kagome sighed, sinking into her seat.

She would leave but no doubt Kōga would somehow find out all about this match, game or whatever it was called in Amefuto, and then grill her to see if she actually watched.

There was nothing that could surprise her now in this era.

Yōkai were so annoying.

I'm not going to come up with an excuse because like, y'all probs really mad and y'all have every right to be.

Anyways, I have more drabbles lined up for this — like half a dozen — but like… I kinda forgot about them so…
