Chapter 23 – Atlantis - Moving On

As Hank Landry walked up the stairs to see Walter, Carolyn Lam, SGC's Chief Medical Officer, nodded to the person beside her while automatically saying. "Lady Roberta, excuse me, I need to talk the Doctors now we know General O'Neill is not coming back here or to DC. I will be back in moment." and they both smiled realising the address Carolyn had used, before she moved off in the direction of Doctors. Watching her go to the group, Roberta silently checked off the two she knew, Doctors Mallard and Palmer, and pondered about the third man in the group she didn't, before getting distracted and smiling at Carolyn's first comment to them. "Doctors, I hope this will not put you off looking after the General when he is back on Earth." Seeing the men's bright smiles, but not hearing their answers, Roberta seriously doubted anyone could resist joining the project after what they had seen so far, and knowing Carolyn was Jack's main doctor even when in DC she realised the two being at the Navy Yard could be or had been a good back up plan.

Then concentrating on Carolyn's next request to the slightly built man, with glasses and a bright smile, of "Doctor Taft, I know you have not decided how to join us yet, but I wonder if you and your wife would like a working break in Minnesota where it looks as though General O'Neill will be arriving back on Earth. We don't know much about the Waterfall site yet, but there is an established town nearby and no doubt we can find you accommodation there or on site as log cabins will be arriving for the people going there from here or Atlantis." made Roberta realize the man's name had been on Jack's list of possible newcomers to the programme she'd seen at the meeting that day, and that could be why he was here.

Seeing the man's enthusiastic nod but not his later comments, Roberta let her mind drift round the quietly chattering NCIS groups, and couldn't help smiling at Jared Vance's sudden loud and insistent exclamation. "But Dad! She's asked for an essay on what we are doing during our days out of school, and it has to be the truth! She won't believe any of this!"

And Leon Vance's smile and soft gentle but firm comment. "You can't write it anyway, this is extremely top secret and a totally classified experience. We will think of something, that keeps clear of dragons and talking cats. As far as anyone is concerned you've been stuck at Navy yard doing school work and playing games on the computer, possibly beating your sister at them." and stopped at his daughter's sharp exclamation. "Dad! No Way!" Before with a slight smile at both of them, he added. "When we get back to DC we will discuss what we do." then concentrating on his daughter he finished very seriously. "You will need to finish your schooling where you are anyway, and you can not rely on having the gene giving you a job regardless of qualifications. Like Jared, no mention of what you have seen or found out. Ever!"

Hearing the daughter's huff and "Yes Dad." Roberta realised she needed to sort out her own cover story, especially if she ended up staying over night. But first, wanting to sort out the other questions running round her mind, she tuned out the other NCIS group's chatter and turned to the father and daughter, who had been next to Carolyn and Hank and were now moving in to fill the gap beside her. They too had been talking quietly together, till the daughter's rather huffy last exclamation of "Dad! I've not decided anything yet! And stop moaning! I'm going on the trip with the Nox when they want me to, and it is not likely to be soon. So give it a rest!" brought their conversation to an abrupt end, with a silent glare to her from her father.

Deciding to stop any comeback from the father, Roberta glanced at the daughter with a hint of a smile and butted in rather formally by asking. "Miss Emily Fornell, why did Lady Lya address you as the future Earth's Ambassador, I assume to the Universe rather than just the Nox family? And, how is it we can all understand ..." Roberta hesitated trying to find the right word, couldn't so voiced her thoughts instead. "I suppose you could call it dragonneze?" before firmly stating. "Everyone here understood NightOwl immediately, and to my astonishment I found I caught up with understanding it after a short time, even though I've never heard it before or U Sang's language come to that."

Loving every moment of this experience, feeling bubbly and not fazed by Roberta's uniform, high rank or questions, which showed in Emily's bright smile as she nodded and answered immediately. "Lady Roberta, just Emily is fine. This must seem like a different world having just travelled here by going upstairs to a spacecraft then down here to this, even though you've known about it before hand. This is all new to us as well, though we have been here since yesterday so have gotten used some of the strangeness. Especially NightOwl and U Sang, they are so amazing and beautiful." she paused for a second or two to gather her thoughts, calm down a bit, then carried on. "To answer your question, Lady Lya addresses me that way, because I am still learning so it is about my future, when I am an adult and with no fixed timing or pressure to do it either. Like Masters Jack and Jethro, I have a very strong Ancient Gene, which means I can use Ancient technology, so am likely to be in the Space Forces in some form or other. My father does not have the Gene so I have it through my late mother. Jared and Kayla Vance have it in a milder form through their late mother, so may end up working here or Atlantis, that will be their decision. We all came here because General O'Neill through Agent Gibbs asked us to come.

"Regarding understanding NightOwl's and U Sang's languages, dad and Jethro went to Midway and brought back a gift from Uncle Jack." With a slight nod of surprise, Emily immediately stopped and looked over at Jethro, who was now walking over to them with a stern but also gentle expression. Staying silent while trying not to show her surprise that she'd just heard his command of "Emily, not another word and let me take over. Don't show surprise at this." in her mind. She couldn't help wondering if this was because of their Gene or part of the gift they'd been given. If so she hoped it would be restricted rather than everyone here being able to mind talk or read, especially her father that would be soo bad, and would ask Jethro when it was just the two of them.

Surprised but understanding what he'd just done and realising what this gift could mean to his team, Jethro joined them with a nod to Roberta, and saying easily. "Ma'am, I believe General Landry will bring you fully up to date after this group has moved on." Then as the last thing he wanted was butterflies mentioned or the other things he and no doubt Emily were feeling at the moment, and knowing some explanation was needed added. "General O'Neill's gift is to do with communication and that is why we understood NightOwl. U Sang usually uses a translator he wears or via the Stargate so we can understand him anyway. Regarding the medal ceremony you mentioned earlier, I will only be able to attend if General O'Neill is back on Earth and in the mountain. It looks as though he will be elsewhere if Lady Lya has her way."

Giving a smile and gentle laugh, knowing the tactic Jethro was using, Roberta confirmed. "You will not be able to duck out this time, Agent Gibbs. The president's family and the country are safe because of you and your team, and I'm glad to say we all understand and appreciate Jack's part in it as well." Glancing across to the group on Atlantis she added. "It is quite unbelievable that they are in another galaxy and he is glowing with little energy gifts, as Lady Lya calls them. That must be an amazing story in itself." Hearing the man's huff at her comment, she ended gently. "Don't worry Jethro, I will not ask. But it does sound as though he's done 'it' again, with or without his team and I don't mean just SG1 or NCIS from what I've seen here and at DC."

Following her gaze, while remembering the events of the past few weeks, Jethro said quietly with feeling. "Yes Ma'am." Then, knowing there was nothing more to be said on the matter, the group stood quietly in their own private thoughts while the other groups chattered on around them as they waited for General Landry to return.

xoxo

On Atlantis, the groups were also quietly chatting amongst themselves. Congratulations where due, along with a lot of 'what if's' speculation especially, now they knew Colonel Carter was going back with General O'Neill, because no one was going to disobey Lady Lya's orders now they knew her true status. There was, of course, chatter about NightOwl, they'd seen her change and fly before as she gathered life giving energy, now she was fully charged and showing her true self, they were amazed again. The Nox family and NightOwl and U Sang were just silently waiting, content to let the other conversations wash over them, any comments were mind nudges and personal. That is till Sam had finished talking to Jon and Cassie, who'd joined the rest of the retired SG1 for a chat, and turned to her husband with a long hard look.

Jack, of course, had stayed where he'd been told to, and had said the odd word or two to the group before silently watching the others at Stargate Command, and mentally reminding himself he could not just take a couple of steps and be on Earth again. While also picturing himself running up those stairs and making sure his happy thoughts, conclusions were right. … He could really do what he wanted to do!

Unable to ignore it any longer Sam gave a short sharp warning silent mind push. "Jack! Stop it!"

Jack glanced at her and silently hit back. "What?" with all the innocence he could muster as he really didn't know what she was on about. He had put up the necessary mind barriers to stop everyone's thoughts getting into his mind, those had not been broken. Her mind push was a gentle knock on the barriers which he automatically answered and now waited for her mental answer.

With a none too silent, either mentally or verbally, huff at him, Sam then continued mentally. "You are buzzing and those gift balls will start bouncing off you again. What are you so excited about? Us going to the cabin and not DC?" she finished. Then feeling an extra ripple of warmth run through her, she added mentally and very sharply. "Stop it!"

Taking a breath and trying very hard to calm himself back to semi normal, Jack mentally but with some excitement silently explained. "Hank said two Generals to start the Waterfall Site."

"So?" Sam mentally questioned, knowing they'd already agreed a General would need to run it, and it would be Jack as it was really his site. He held the Ancient key so to speak, because she doubted it would open up to just anyone with the Ancient gene. Jack as the Ancient child would not have been so daft as to let that happen.

Then smiled as Jack huffed verbally, before mentally explaining. "Two Generals to start it. Say six weeks, tops if we have the right teams from Atlantis and on the ground. Then Brigadier General Carter runs it with Colonel Mitchell and their chosen team and Lieutenant General O'Neill is allowed to retire into the cabin and background, coming out occasionally to advise if the need arises or to fish. See!"

Sam couldn't help but chuckle out loud at his reading of Hank's words, knowing their friend was hinting at something, possibly warning Jack as well. Then stopped as she felt Jack's mental command push to the Atlantis group of "Eyes front everyone!"

At that and hearing Hank's footsteps on the stairs down to SGC's gateroom, the group stayed still and silent waiting for him to reach the bottom of the stairs. All of them hoping there was not bad news on the way.

Seeing the Atlantis group suddenly come alert, the SGC group also became quiet and still.

Feeling his own tensions and the expectation in the room, Hank stopped halfway down the stairs, and looking across to the group on Atlantis announced gravely. "We have a time-sensitive mission requiring Odyssey to deploy two teams here on Earth. They are gathering at Level 12 pick up point as I speak. So, rather than contacting DC and waiting for their consent, Lieutenant General O'Neill, as Head of Homeworld Security and Space Forces, will you give the go ahead for this safeguarding and arrest mission, regarding the IOA member who is under our care after being kidnapped and critically injured? She was ready to be moved to a safer recovery establishment when the attack happened, though not injured is seriously shaken by the experience and causing doctors concern. Colonel Dixon and his team will provide secure cover for the hospital and patients while a future placement is considered and arranged.

"We know the location of the attackers hideout, which is some distance from the hospital, so Colonel Smith's team under the cover of Homeland Security will join the local authorities and deal with that, as well as question any suspects locally or at another secure holding of his choice. We have walking wounded of our own being seen to at the hospital. Three perpetrators have been killed and two slightly injured and arrested, hence our knowledge about their hideout. Odyssey also has eyes on the area and a watching brief regarding their communications. There has also been an attack on Richard Woolsey's apartment in DC so it will not be safe for him to return to Earth until we find out if this was a single coordinated operation or not."

With a nod of understanding and acceptance, and ignoring the gasps and tensions from both groups, Jack instantly considered the situation and checked. "Transport available?"

Hank nodded as he continued to walk down the stairs and added. "Two fully equipped vans on the Odyssey. Both teams and vehicles will be deployed away from target areas to avoid detection by onlookers, then be driven up to the sites by the teams. Contact will be through Odyssey in the usual manner."

While listening to Hank's answer Jack sent a mind request over to Lya, and got her quick gentle reply. "They are your space family. We will help and will not be detected. You lead so they do not understand we have mind talked."

Nodding his thanks, Jack looked at the SGC group and commented. "Jethro, there is a splinter group or people wanting to make sure there are no loose ends or so others can escape. I need you and your team to link with the Colonels, check out the information, and, if necessary clear it up as we have done in the past. With Tony leaving, you might want to bring the two newbies in your team up to speed so they can team up with Bishop and McGee. Use MTAC with McGee at the controls as your link because you are not going out of the Mountain." Seeing his friend's slight huff Jack gave a slight shake of his head to stop any interruption and added. "Director Vance. You will need to run cover for the team and our SGC Officer joining them. We will deal with that in a moment."

Ignoring their questioning looks and getting nods from the men concerned, Jack immediately raised his voice slightly and ordered. "Walter, inform Colonels Smith and Dixon they will be liaising with NCIS through General Landry and Agent Gibbs via the Odyssey in the usual manner. Also they are to stand ready to deploy and await my orders through you for the final go ahead."

"Yes Sir. They should be assembled at Level 12 pick up point in ten minutes. All elevators and corridors are cleared for their use only." Walter answered smartly.

With a slight smile at the way they still worked well together, Jack carried on. "Hank. I believe it would be wise if the patient recovered on Atlantis and not travel to SGC to do so." Before Hank could voice a comment Jack turned slightly so he was looking over at the group at the computer terminals on Atlantis, while giving Samantha a mind flash of his intentions.

Seeing her smile and nod of understanding regarding his immediate actions, Jack addressed the men concerned. "Richard Woolsey and Colonel Shepard, we will bring the future plans of joint leadership of Atlantis City forward to now." Then glancing in the other direction, he checked. "That is if the Chief of Staff of the Air Force confirms the plans I put forward have been agreed at the meeting she attended." Before she could answer, Jack made sure he could see the men concerned and Roberta, and confirmed his intentions. "If not, we will do it now, under my command as Head of Homeworld Security and Space Forces and under extenuating circumstances."

Keeping up with what was happening, feeling the buzz of tension and enjoying seeing Jack in his true work mode again, Roberta called out. "I do confirm they did and will explain the finer alterations they discussed later. So carry on General."

With a nod of thanks to her, Jack turned his full attention back to the men concerned, and knowing it would inform everyone the reasons for his plans carried on. "With the member of the IOA Committee recuperating and working with Richard on Atlantis, and then returning to Earth when it is safe to do so. It will add to the IOA's knowledge and understanding what Atlantis and crew do rather than just reading reports and therefore help with future plans."

Both men nodded their acceptance, with Colonel Shepard staying silent as it was an order given to him and confirmed what Lady Lya had said earlier. While Richard though feeling slightly overwhelmed by the fact he was not going to have the quiet change over period he'd hoped for, and realising certain names were not to be mentioned, and Colonel Shepard needed to know where he stood, found his voice and stated clearly. "We worked well together on the Committee, and our commitment to the project could have been one of the reasons she and the other IOA member were kidnapped, and he died for his beliefs. She has always wanted to visit Atlantis and her commitment to the project will be an asset to our team here and on Earth."

Knowing the IOA members concerned, and what Richard was doing as well as the fact he was much stronger in character than he looked, Jack gave a slight nod and reassuring comment. "Good." before ordering. "Colonel Shepard. Inform the infirmary of the plan and to make a room ready for the patient. The new rooms can be used without being linked to the mind room." then bringing his attention to the other person he wanted help from, added. "Cassandra, I would like you to be her companion when she arrives and recovers as it will be unsettling and very strange to her."

Cassie smiled and nodded her agreement, understanding her own experience of suddenly finding herself on Earth after losing her parents and home planet she could help the patient. Also as she had not been assigned a specific job on Atlantis she would have time on her hands and could learn the medical set up as she went along.

Giving a smile of thanks, and knowing it was time, Jack glanced at Lya with a slight nod, then smoothly brought her into the plan by changing tone and asking. "Lady Lya. I do not believe it would be safe for the patient to travel to Atlantis via our Stargate, either via Odyssey or by Earth transport to Stargate Command. Therefore would you be willing to assist us? If so, can you transport her from her room in the hospital, or should it be done during transportation to another facility to hide the fact you are using your gate of space travel?"

With her graceful nod of leadership the others would note and understand, Lya answered seriously, though with a slight smile, as she was silently enjoying the moment, in spite of its serious nature. "The Nox family will gladly assist in your request to help your space family. When required, our transport beams can be silent and invisible to everyone around. I believe it would be best if we use our spacecraft rather than beaming her all the way to Atlantis, as we would need to use two gates of space travel to do so. To assist us we would like one of our family to board the Odyssey and deliver our communication twigs to your teams. In this way our family looking after Earth can keep in direct contact with them. I also suggest a member of your nursing staff attend and travel to Atlantis with them as well."

Seeing Jack's puzzled frown and mind exclamation. "Twigs!?" Lya instantly flashed across the answer "We have delivered and explained their use to your Earth family and those on Atlantis, when you were otherwise engaged. You and Samantha will have your own in due course."

Willing to drop it, Jack nodded his agreement and turning to face the SGC group ordered. "Doctor Lam, I need an emergency nurse with off world experience to go to Level 12 pick up point immediately, and be prepared for a mission of at least 7 days. She will return via our Stargate."

Already doing a quick mental check through her nurses list, Caroline called out. "Tracy Atkinson, she'll have a personal and medical go bag at the ready. If the corridors are clear she can use the medi-scooter to get to Level 12 pick up point quickly."

Having introduced the scooters when in charge of SGC, Jack immediately called out. "Walter!"

And was interrupted by Walter's immediate reply "Making it happen Sir. She has clear passage to Level 12 pick up point, and they will bring her up to date on the matter when she arrives there. Also we will have direct contact with Colonel Reynolds on the Odyssey as soon as he reaches the mic Sir." which made them all smile.

It only took a moment or two before the greeting came over loud and clear. "This is Colonel Reynolds, General O'Neill. Nice to know you are back on Earth. How can we assist you?"

Jack smiled, knowing Walter was keeping things under wraps, and said. "Still on Atlantis, but calling through Stargate Command. A member of the Nox family has clearance to come aboard the Odyssey to give Colonel Dixon a communication device, and instructions how to use it. They will be transporting the patient to Atlantis and will need to know how, where and when Colonel Dixon is ready. He is to decide whether it is straight from the hospital or via other Transport and arrange it. You will run communications for all groups back to General Landry and adding Director Vance and Agent Gibbs of NCIS if needs be. Also make sure transport and chain of evidence is kept if necessary without breaking cover."

"Understood Sir. Giving clearance to the Nox now." Colonel Reynolds announced.

With a nod Lya raised her hands above her head and clapped them, mentally confirming everything to her crew in orbit around Earth.

As she lowered her hands, Colonel Reynolds immediately announced with a slight smile in his voice. "Member of the Nox family has just arrived next to me."

With a slight shake of his head at Lya's antics, Jack carried on seriously. "You have the go ahead to pick up Colonels Dixon and Smith's teams along with an emergency nurse, as soon as Colonel Dixon contacts you. Then liaise with General Landry as planned. The Nox can contact me on Atlantis if required. As I am giving clearance for this mission, General Landry will inform Colonel Davis and Homeworld Security of the circumstances."

"Yes Sir. Look forward to seeing you back on Earth soon. Colonel Reynolds Out."

Knowing the call was finished and seeing a nod from Lya, Jack knew she would stay in contact with her family around Earth, and turned his attention to SGC by calling out, "Walter?"

Walter immediately replied. "Groups are ready and the emergency Nurse is about to join them, Sir."

Looking over at Hank and getting a nod that everything was clear and accepted, and knowing Walter would keep everyone in the loop regardless, Jack then announced. "Walter. They are cleared for the Mission. Inform me when they are on Odyssey."

"Yes, Sir," Walter answered crisply.

After which, there was a moment of silent tense anticipation from everyone, before Walter's clear announcement "They are aboard the Odyssey, will be on the sites, as arranged, in five minutes." allowed everyone start to relax.

"Thank you, Walter." Jack said, before turning his attention to the rest of the group in SGC and asked. "How bad was the attack on Richard's apartment, Hank?"

Taking a moment to consider things, Hank then said. "I'm sorry, Mr Woolsey, but it is a total write off, due to some structure damage from a fire and small explosion in the kitchen. According to initial reports, CCTV was taken out before hand and there are no witnesses. There were minor injuries to a couple of your neighbours. They and other affected residents are being housed off-site, at a secure location."

Feeling everyone's shock and sadness at a home and belongings being destroyed, Jack turned to look at Richard and asked. "Before you came to Atlantis did you do as I suggested?"

Though shaken by the news, Richard managed to find his voice, even if it squeaked a bit at the beginning, it grew stronger as he answered. "Yes. I… I packed all … the really ... valued personal possessions and brought them to Atlantis. The things I couldn't, but were movable without being obvious about it, I put in the safe place in the spare room you suggested." pausing and realizing things could be salvaged and getting what might be important settled in his mind, he added. "I also distributed the equipment you gave me. The two in the apartment I suspect will be out of action due to the damage done there. The outside ones might still be there and hopefully prove useful."

Knowing the nerve it had taken Richard to do what he did, and the groups around them were silently speculating what on Earth had been going on, Jack gave a slight nod of encouragement as he said. "Well done. It will take a lot to damage the equipment I gave you. I'm sorry I could not help you on the day as we had hoped." then with a slight smile, added. "So workman's jacket, ladder, hard hat, didn't get you arrested then, or noticed?"

Remembering his nerves while trying to look completely confident as he'd carried, then climbed the ladder to hide the devices. Because even in his eyes he'd looked the most unlikely person to be doing the job, so would be noticed and questioned. True, he'd had two training sessions with O'Neill that included climbing ladders and how to protect himself and stay safe. But circumstances meant he was on his own, tight timing and there would be no second chance if things went wrong.

Now, though Richard could feel everyone's attention on him was supportive rather than otherwise and smiled at that memory, then started to explain. "No, no one took any notice of me, not even my neighbour as he waited to cross the road to get into the apartments. I was climbing the ladder at the time he walked towards me. Nearly gave me heart failure, but I remembered your advice and carried on with the job as though I had the right to be there and didn't know him. It was early evening, getting dark and raining so everyone was rushing to get home as quickly as possible. I started with the one at rear, it was secluded and easy to get up to put the device on the trunk with a branch making a resting place so it would not stand out. But, would give a good view of the rear entrance and parking area. The tree out the front on the main road, is across and to the left as you come out the apartment building, so should give a good view of the entrance as well as traffic both ways. I left the van and equipment where you told me and I assume it was collected as it had disappeared when I left the next day and could not get in touch with you from then on."

Seeing the smiles and nods of appreciation from everyone, and quiet words he couldn't hear from Colonel Shepard to the man, but were obviously supportive, Jack knew Richard was accepted here on Atlantis as he'd hoped he would be, and with a nod to him commented. "Now, we can get the perpetrators and the NCIS team will collect the possessions left in your apartment and keep them safe for you."

Then turning his attention back to the group at SGC Jack ordered. "Colonel Ferretti, join the team Jethro is going to send to Richard's apartment and retrieve all the recording devices. Use the special locating device to retrieve the ones in the apartment, then take all of them back to Navy Yard and use MTAC to gain the information before passing it on to the team and link it through to SGC for Jethro and General Landry. Afterwards return with all the devices to SGC, or get a special courier from the Odyssey to do it if you need to stay with the team and oversee the safe keeping of Mr Woolsey's possessions, or any further inquiries that need your special skills."

"Yes, Sir." Lou Ferretti answered smartly, and quickly left the Gate room to retrieve his 'go' bag and find the equipment needed, knowing he was going to have to climb the trees Mr Woolsey did, and hoped that was going to be as easy as it sounded considering their differences in experience and size.

Knowing it would produce questions from the man, Jack commanded rather than asked. "Director Vance, as covert coordinator between our organisations, you will run cover and oversee this operation using Homeland Security so it can reach the courts in the proper manner. Also, clear MTAC of all personnel so Agent McGee and Colonel Ferretti can retrieve the necessary information from the devices when they return with them, and when ever else it is needed for Stargate Command contact. Your contact with Homeworld Security, should you require it regarding the apartment and possessions, will be Colonel Paul Davis, using the contact numbers you were given at our first meeting. Otherwise it will always be through Agent Gibbs or General Landry at SGC or myself when I return to Earth. It maybe advisable to bring the newer members of Agent Gibbs's team into the programme to assist Agent Bishop, if she is needed at the other two sites. Use MTAC cleared of personnel other than your self or Agent McGee to do this, and link it through to Agent Gibbs and General Landry. As for the future, when going round the operatives under your command you will covertly and carefully find out who is suitable to bring into the programme, all time bearing in mind everything is strictly on a need to know basis regardless of rank and title. You will also be the link with SGC for all the Service Forces by bringing them together under the title of NCIS and Gibbs's team."

Feeling that unique command Jack could project when he needed to, Leon realized the importance of his job not only for the service personnel but also being ready for when SGC and Homeworld had to go public, and couldn't help asking with a bit of an edge. "Why now? Is it just because of the special gene my children have? You have not trusted me before, didn't when we met. In fact you went out of your way to project the image of the opposite you are today."

Without any hesitation or breaking eye contact with the man, Jack explained. "I have always trusted you and the position you hold and will hold in the future. If I didn't you would not be the Director of NCIS. We both know how family can be used against a member if the reason is important enough to the perpetrator, and the people I was up against would have used Kayla and Jared against you or even taken you out and left them orphans had they known the truth about Gibbs's team. At first we only needed a small trusted team for the occasional use, with little knowledge of the big space picture and I needed to keep in touch with Jethro because of who he is. Then things started to escalate to where we are today.

"On the day of our meeting we were geared up to bring you into Homeworld Security and Space Forces team. Only new information came in and I saw certain people, who have now been arrested and will not be returning to their jobs, coming from the building, and were linked to you. So for everyone's safety, I immediately stepped back into the shadows and covert character, and by chatting with your children I knew they would need protecting. From that day on you and your children, have and will be watched and lightly guided when needed, the final decisions will be yours as their father and family. The schools they currently attend are safe, as are their friends."

Seeing Leon's nod of understanding and knowing what a shock all this information would be to him and his family, Jack added. "The gifts of communication you have received will enable all of you to sense and understand certain things, never ignore the warning or intuition they give you, but don't rely on them saving you. Your children and Emily should carry on attending the recently started self defense instructions at their schools, and Leon, your driver is part of the set up and specially trained to get out of difficult situations, so he can collect them when you are unable to do so."

Turning his attention to General Landry Jack checked. "Hank have you issued Leon with the special devices for his house and car?"

Hank nodded as he added. "And the instructions to go with them so he can discuss anything he wants to with his family without fear of it being overheard and use it to alert us should the need arise."

Jack nodded and seeing Kayla and Jared were smiling and tucked into their father, he added. "Welcome to our family, because I don't think your children will let you walk away from it all."

Giving his children the reassuring hug Leon confirmed. "No, I don't think they will and it is an interesting extension to my job."

Turning his attention to the ones who were leaving the team, knowing he would miss the Agent's unique sense of humour and attitude, Jack said. "Tony and Zeva, you both need time to be a family and set up your new home. When you are ready, contact the people Hank has suggested and see what you think might interest you both. There is always Alpha site or Atlantis if you don't feel safe in Paris."

Feeling Zeva's hand pressed into his, knowing what he so nearly lost and the fact he was leaving his team and his mentor, Tony was, perhaps for the first time lost for a quirky comeback, could only find two words that would cover it and managed to get them out. "Thank you." While Zeva silently nodded her thanks with a smile, wishing she could have actually worked with the general, who had saved her and her daughter's lives in spite of the countries that separated them.

Knowing their feelings, Jack immediately turned to the other members of the team and said. "McGee, Bishop thank you for your skills and help over the past months." then with a smile added. "Delilah, welcome to the family of the Ancients and I hope your skills will help us as we look to the future and prepare to go public. I also hope both of you will visit the Waterfall site when it is up and running and we are out of tented accommodation."

Giving a gentle laugh of excitement this experience and offer was giving her, Delilah nodded knowing Tim wouldn't miss the chance either.

With just a silent nod to Gibbs, knowing they would keep in contact regardless of work, Jack immediately turned his attention to the last group of people. They had his greatest respect and appreciation, and he had no doubt they now knew his reputation as a patient, even the one he'd not formally met yet, because Caroline would have passed information on without breaking any confidences as he'd agreed privately with her, they could look round the infirmary and talk if they ever met up without him. Watching them in what he could only call a gaggle, he knew one doctor was enough to deal with, four of them eyeing him up with smiles … Oh yeah, that meant trouble … and couldn't stop his sigh as he felt Sam's silent, gentle mind giggle ... but stayed silent in both respects and waited for the Doctor's comments. After all, Caroline would be their spokesperson and was his doctor.

Noting Jack's reaction, Doctor Lam took the opportunity and said firmly. "General, I will still be in charge of your medical notes and general assessments when you are here. Doctors Mallard and Palmer will look after you when you are in their area." Then with a slight smile, but still firmly, she added. "Doctor Taft is looking forward to meeting you properly when you arrive at the Waterfall site and will be your main and emergency doctor while you are there."

While wondering how they were going to do a medical at a distance, as he knew the doctors would insist on it, he nodded his acceptance knowing he really didn't have a choice and at least he knew about Doctor Taft from Jethro, and liked the man's no nonsense but upbeat attitude. Considering what had happened while he'd been working with the NCIS team, he couldn't resist commenting. "You are looking good Ducky, and I hope it will be catch up chats rather than lying on your slab at any time Jimmy." Seeing their nods of agreement, Jack turned to the last one by asking. "Here by design, Doctor Taft, or by accident?"

Smiling and glancing over at Jethro then back at Jack, and totally at ease with the family atmosphere in spite of the strange situation, Taft answered with more than a hint of excitement in his serious tone. "Accident. I was checking up on my very stubborn patient over there as he'd not returned my calls, and no one would say where he was hiding when I rang. So I visited the Navy Yard for answers, walked out the lift, joined the group and found several unbelievable and amazing answers and have even more questions." he finished with a grin.

With a chuckle Jack nodded, then said seriously. "I was going to come to you after this trip and see if you would join our merry band, having heard of your reputation with stubborn patients. I intended to ask if you would head up and find specialized teams for medical emergency situations on Earth, other planets or on our space craft. Like our emergency nurses, the team or teams would need to go where needed at short notice and be away for unknown length of time without drawing attention to their absence. Your choice if you go with them or just act as head of the department with Stargate Command as your base on Earth and the Hammond your base in Space."

Accepting and ignoring the mental tingle of surprise from Sam, as she was realising the true significance of what he was putting forward, had planned for the Hammond's future, Jack stopped and glanced for a moment at Caroline.

Realising what he was up to, Caroline smiled back and shook her head, reasserting that Dr. Taft would be his doctor, come what may.

Hoping, but not expecting her to change her mind, Jack gave a nod with his comment. "A slight change of plan then." Before turning his attention back to Doctor Taft explaining. "If you accept, you will be based at the new Waterfall Site, as well as the Hammond. With excellent communications with Stargate Command it will be your second base on Earth, with a site and facilities 'in waiting' at Alpha Site. Most of the time it will be ordinary medical jobs covering all the staff, setting up and training your team, as well as learning about other space travellers' health and needs. Your staff, by the way, can come from civilian or military forces, worldwide, as well as including those space travellers who have, and will in the future join our Earth family."

Feeling Taft, as well as the others, were grasping the wider picture, he confirmed. "Stargate Command is our base for Gate travel, the Waterfall Site will become the hub for the Ancient and Asgard Class Space Travel. But, that is for the future, for now it will be setting it all in place and acting as my ordinary doctor as needed." then with a slight smile added. "Which might be difficult and boring at present, all things considered."

With chuckles at that from both groups, and knowing he didn't need the answer straight away Jack confirmed. "Think about it and let Hank know your answer. Look round the Odyssey's medical base when you go upstairs, and of course, discuss the idea of moving with your wife. Get her to sign the paperwork before you do and keep the space details very light, there are a lot of opportunities for her in her own right as well." then doing the quote gestures when needed, and in a slightly lighter tone but still keeping serious he added. "Of course, if you don't mind being a yoyo by going 'upstairs' when needed, you could even stay where you are. Whatever you and your wife decide, you can keep in touch with your stubborn patient at DC or from the Waterfall site."

Listening to it all, taking the measure of the General and the job offer, Taft knew it was the change he wanted, his wife needed, and would enjoy. So nodded with a grin knowing that was all that was needed at the moment.

Seeing the answer, Jack glanced over at Jethro and added casually. "The offer of the lake for your boat when you've finished it, is still open. I've no doubt you will come and visit one way or the other."

As Jethro smiled and nodded his acceptance, Roberta looked over at Hank who nodded, that 'it was the right time' so she looked at Jack and immediately announced. "Lieutenant General O'Neill."

Jack, like everyone else came to attention, realising this was official and she was taking the lead, and silently hoped he was right in his expectation as he said. "Ma'am."

Roberta smiled at the respect in his tone and attitude covered in that response, and started. "I believe it would be right that I should state certain things that were discussed and accepted at the meeting we mentioned earlier, and that I have the power from the Commander in Chief and President to confirm change of commissions and rank of certain officers. Also that it should be registered in the Halls of Memories at SGC and on Atlantis, as it will lead to the breaking up of their premier team." and paused.

With a slight smile, knowing what was coming, Hank immediately quietly commanded. "Walter, take notes as you did before."

"Yes Sir." Walter answered, while Jack stayed silent knowing this was their show and shut down any ripples of anticipation that might travel through their mind connection to Sam, having felt her reaction at the lead role the Hammond would be taking in the future.

Seeing Hank's nod, and enjoying the attention and what this would lead to, and as though the interruption had not taken place, Roberta kept eye contact with Jack as she carried on in her formal tone. "At the meeting with the president, other heads of services and the Chairperson of the IOA Committee, your original future plans for the change of command and rank, at the end of Colonel Carter's commission on Atlantis City, were accepted and confirmed.

"They were that Mr Richard Woolsey of the IOA committee and Colonel John Shepard jointly command Atlantis City, and Colonel Samantha Carter be offered the command of the Hammond. It was also confirmed that Teyla and Ronon along with their families, now and in the future, are citizens of Atlantis and have the right of refuge on Earth and Alpha site should it be required. Their titles while on Atlantis will be as follows, Teyla ambassador for Atlantis and civilians living in the city, and Ronon head of security civilian and military, especially the leaders of Atlantis. Doctor McKay and Dr. Radek Zelenka will be responsible for the running of the Science Department and under the direct orders of those in command of Atlantis City, as well as training members of their department."

In the pause as Roberta finished, and those concerned started to take in the changes, Hank took the opportunity and ordered. "Attention to Orders" and everyone came to attention and Roberta carried on. "Therefore as Chief of Staff of the Air Force and with the Commander in Chief's authority, I now confirm that these changes and that Colonel John Shepard is promoted to Brigadier General, are effective immediately."

Half in a daze, John automatically reacted with a salute in answer to Roberta's, then everyone relaxed as she carried on. "Unfortunately due to distance the actual swearing in and receiving your star will be done via video and in the post." Smiling at his and the other's smiles, at her comment she carried on. "I hope the whole of Atlantis will be able to view the ceremony when it can be arranged. Those that need to know the change of rank will be informed and you can use it immediately."

"Ma'am" John answered, suddenly feeling the full weight of command on his shoulders.

Roberta nodded, then turning her attention to the other member of the Atlantis group, said. "Colonel Samantha Carter."

At her name, Sam could feel excitement and nerves rippling through her along with the gentle mental 'Steady, no jumping up and down.' from Jack, that made her control herself and pay attention to Roberta's voice.

"Recent events have made changes to the suggestion Lieutenant General O'Neill and Major General Hank Landry put forward for the end of your assignment on Atlantis, that you should take command of the Hammond and like the Odyssey be attached to Stargate Command regarding missions. At the meeting it was decided that the Hammond should be attached to the Waterfall Site and Homeworld Security and Space Forces, and you will maintain close contact with the Hammond, crew and missions through out. Also you should, in the first instance, take joint command of the Waterfall Site and be promoted to Brigadier General. When the site is fully commissioned you will be in sole command of it and promoted to Major General."

With a huge smile and seeing the Atlantis group's reaction, Hank commanded. "Attention to orders."

Barely able to contain her emotions that it was really happening, everyone around her came to attention, and feeling calming ripples from NightOwl beside her, Sam came to attention.

Seeing everyone was ready as well as Jack's nod, Roberta formally announced. "As Chief of Staff of the Air Force and with the Commander in Chief's authority, I confirm these changes regarding Colonel Samantha Carter's assignment and change in rank to Brigadier General, be effective immediately."

Returning Roberta's salute Sam heard clapping from everyone around her and the others at SGC, as well as feeling Jack's gentle mental chuckle. Feeling the enormity of all that responsibility on her shoulders, she knew she would find a good team to back her up, also the crew on the Hammond would be a good start, especially with Cam in her group and Jack would support her as they gathered staff for the Waterfall Site.

Her thoughts and attention were brought back to now by Roberta's smile and comment. "General Carter. I have no doubt that the Commander in Chief will want to present you with your star and swear you in during a visit to the Waterfall site when it is clear to do so."

That brought chatter among the group as Sam replied, "Yes Ma'am." and started to wonder if they would wait for Jack to become himself again or would it be...

And again everyone's attention was brought back to now by Hank's firm. "Attention to orders." and immediate Roberta's stern address. "Lieutenant General O'Neill." and paused knowing she needed the man's fulll attention.

Jack's flutter of excitement that things were going well, suddenly dropped because of the serious expressions and tone of their voices. They were getting ready to tell him something he didn't want to hear, in spite of Hank's early hint about two Generals, and nodded that he was ready to be the controlled leader everyone expected him to be… and not make a scene.

Seeing Jack's nod and the subtle change of attitude, Roberta gave nothing away as she announced. "Lieutenant General O'Neill your request for joint leadership with Major General Landry of Homeworld Security and Space Forces, to allow a smooth change leading up to your retirement, was put forward. Along with new working arrangements that would have to take place, immediately on your return to that department, due to your covert activities under the President's orders, because of the untenable position you would be in, regarding discussions or orders to staff within and outside the department, as well as future committees and meetings you would need to attend as Head of Homeworld Security and Space Forces."

Noting, but ignoring the ripple of quiet exclamations as the listeners took in the deeper meaning of broken trust issues behind the stated bare facts, Roberta carried on. "I will come back to that. I do confirm your recommendation that the NCIS team you worked with during the recent covert activities, along with the special SGC security team that assisted in the latter part of the mission, will be given medals in recognition for their services. This will take place in a private ceremony at the White House. As Agent Tony D'Nozzo will be unable to attend I will make sure his medal is passed on by General Landry. However, your wish to avoid any recognition regarding the covert mission is ignored and the Commander in Chief has decided on the following action regarding your future and the Waterfall Site."

Even though the buzz of quiet comments from both groups was dying down, Hank announced again. "Attention to orders." and was greeted by an immediate expectant silence from both groups while Jack was trying to work out 'what shoe was about to fall on him' and got ready to receive what ever it was, knowing another medal of any kind would draw even more unwanted attention when he was in full dress uniform.

Keeping eye contact with Jack, Roberta announced. "Lieutenant General O'Neill, as Chief of Staff of the Air Force and with the Commander in Chief's recommendation and authority, I announce that not only for this recent mission but also for your integrity in carrying out your duties under duress and the leadership and consideration you give to those under your command over the years. You are promoted to four star General, effective immediately." and saluted him as did Hank, who tried hard to stop his smile while he watched Jack as the words registered.

Totally surprised at the honour, Jack automatically saluted back to them. Bringing his hand down from the salute, he started to register the ripple of clapping around him, and could see from the NCIS group. Saw the slight hint of a smile from Hank and felt the private gentle mind whispers from Sam, NightOwl, U Sang and Lya, and respectfully accepted but shut them down with a slight shake of his head. His mind was buzzing with questions, answers and coming up with all sorts of possibilities, and keeping eye contact with Roberta, commented respectfully. "So no retirement and everyone will think it is a political promotion." brought attentive silence from everyone.

Knowing what he was getting at, Roberta answered firmly. "The people who work with and have worked with you know the promotion is on merit, also whatever you have been through to bring us to what is happening now, proves you deserve this promotion and everyone's respect." Then with a slight smile, and a softer tone, added. "There is more."

Seeing Jack's nod of acceptance, she continued. "Your recommendation regarding command of Homeworld Security and Space Forces are accepted. Colonel Paul Davis will be promoted to Brigadier General, and assigned as Deputy to General Landry, when he is promoted and assigned that command. We also accept and approve General Landry's recommendation for his replacement as commander of the SGC, with promotion to Brigadier General at the appropriate time."

With a quick glance to Hank then back to Jack, Roberta finished. "I believe General Landry should bring you up to date on the decisions regarding the Waterfall Site you and General Carter will be bringing into commission. Also as Lady Lya has advised us, you will be unable to return to DC for a while, the first actions should be to set up secure audio and visual communications with Homeworld Security, SGC and the NCIS Navy Yard."

Before Hank could decide whether to address Jack as 'Four Star General' or just General, the man in question butted in firmly, guessing what was going on in his mind and wanting to relax the tone of the meeting, said. "Thank you Lady Roberta. Hank, before you address me, Jack is fine, thank you." Which made everyone smile as they realised what Jack meant as he carried on by asking. "How much did you have to tell the meeting about the Waterfall Site?"

With a smile and a nod, but keeping his gruff, serious tone, Hank replied. "The very bare details, that it is on land under your guardianship and there could be interesting articles that you and officers with the Ancient Gene need to examine. So members from Atlantis City and SGC should be stationed there. I rang Phoenix Corp. as suggested and got an interesting reaction from them and from the powers that be when they realised that Corporation was involved. The latter rolled over and agreed the suggestions with the orders that all future negotiations go through Phenix Corp. so it will all stay under the public radar." And finished with a huff. "I'm guessing they are a bit like us and not on our radar till now."

With a nod and a chuckle, Jack then asked. "Do you know who you talked to at the Phoenix Corp.?"

"No. Just that he was male and the one who picked up the phone. Probably high up, because when I got down to mentioning about accommodation he chuckled and said, they will find and deal with the original track ways in and out of the area, the existing foundations from the old camp and put self contained ones on them for workers and they will extend your cabin, yet again, and put a new one across the lake for your friend to use when he visits, as yours is likely to be too crowded from now on. Then in a very serious tone the man added that entrance will be secured in the old method, so no security forces will be on show, then stressed the point the town is safe for everyone and food but wouldn't be a problem, but refused to expand on that." Then with a smile and a slight shake of his head remembering what happened next, Hank huffed. "They don't hang around do they? I explained about our idea for replacing the Walker's Hut and the man immediately stated, they are replacing it with a small self contained cabin and helicoptering it in tomorrow. Called it your new sanctuary." Then finished by asking. "Any idea how many units you might need?"

Seeing Sam turn in his direction, Jack smiled with a slight nod in agreement as to whom Hank had talked to, then turning his attention back to Hank answered. "Not sure what is behind the Waterfall so tell them enough for a team of twenty mixed personnel with medical and eating quarters. Two guest units and one secure communication unit to your specifications as Lady Roberta suggested."

Seeing her smile and nod, Jack carried on. "They will clear ground cover and young trees as necessary and we don't need to worry about security at the entrance, but might be wise to have a security unit actually at the waterfall base. I'll know more when I get there and see it again. Townspeople are used to not asking questions and respecting people's privacy, supplies were got from the town when Phoenix used it before, so that will not be a problem. While I think about it, when the team at Midway come up for reassignment, they can be relocated to the Waterfall Site, and Walter if you wish a change?" he finished hopefully.

"Thank you for the offer Sir, but I'm fine here. I can suggest a couple who might like a change."

"Thank you Walter. The suggestions can be forwarded to me when I get back." changing tack for a moment Jack asked. "Lady Lya, will your twigs take our computer documents without any problems?"

"The information regarding the new planets home for NightOwl and U Sang?" Hank butted in.

Seeing Jack's nod of agreement, Lya immediately answered the original question. "Master Jack. If the documents or files are brought up on screen and the twig is opened with the verbal command of 'information to Lady Lya' or the name of the person who needs it and has a communication twig. The information will be stored and then relayed either in holographic verbal or written form or to the computer in the same manner it was sent. All communications are totally secure and can be used within your family of space, on Earth by stating their names or with Atlantis and Master Teal'c without using the gate of space travel as it will use the Nox network to find them."

With a nod and smile of thanks, Jack turned his attention back to the SGC group saying. "Right Hank or Walter, can you pass on the information as soon as possible?"

"I'll get that sorted." Hank answered and glanced over at Lady Roberta to see if she was ready to add her piece.

Before she could react, Lady Lya took a step forward and butted in by announcing. "Masters Hank and Jack. When Master Jack and I were in the mind room and he was not sure of his return to his life form, he conveyed his concern regarding the space travelling family, SGU Destiny, lead by Doctor Rush and Colonel Young. As our families travel the highways of space, we would like to help find and return this family to Earth in theirs, and their families life time. To do this we would like information regarding their travelling craft and mission. Also for you to transmit a message that we are friends and can help them, to them and one for us to retain for our use. I believe it would be unwise for Master Jack to do this message at the moment, but you Master Hank could do one for us via the communication twig, and we can start the search as soon as we receive the information. If you are able, you can transmit the message to them in your own time, if they do not receive it we will have the other one to prove you know who we are and why we are looking for them." and finished with a nod knowing the offer would not be refused.

Hearing slight gasps around him as well as seeing Hank's reaction of awe to the offer, Jack answered with a chuckle. "Thank you Lady Lya it is greatly appreciated." and turning his attention to Hank added. "Hank, you've got my permission to access my confidential disk in your safe for the information, you know how to get the codes, and inform Paul what is happening and keeping it under the need to know section."

As Hank nodded his acknowledgement, Lya stated. "It is the least we can do. Your Atlantis family has reunited us with new generations of our old friends we thought lost forever. Your own space family have helped many space travellers." and stopped with a smile as she felt Jack's gentle mind flash "enough."

Feeling her gentle mind chuckle at his embarrassment and knowing the subject was closed, Jack turned his attention to finding out what else was in store for him by addressing the person concerned. "Lady Roberta, let us say the Waterfall site is up and running, Brigadier or Major General Carter is in sole control. So, what is four star General O'Neill going to do but retire, because he is not going to go back to DC, we know the Commander in Chief shot that one down without any help from me?"

Roberta smiled and glanced across at Hank, who with a slight smile nodded, making Jack butt in. "Forcryingoutloud will you two get on with it!"

Which of course made those who'd worked with Jack smile.

Roberta nodded, and turned serious as she stated. "I will be brief, but, seeing who is with you and what has taken place just now, I believe it is the right and only course of action. After consulting others, the Commander in Chief has decided that you will retire from your military service and become the main consultant regarding Earth's space forces and ambassador to the Universe."

Jack couldn't believe it, didn't want it and blocked the gentle mind pushes of support 'that it was the right thing for him'. Ignoring the supportive mutterings from the Atlantis group and nods from the others on Earth, he heard Daniel's exclamation laugh and "Right, stride in there, blow them up and out again.." which was cut short by the icy glare from Vala and Teal'c's warning hand on his shoulder.

Glancing back at them, then back to Roberta, and unable to be the accepting General they might have expected, Jack exploded. "All I want to do is to retire! ... Sit by my lake and help my Earth family grow if needs be. Not be in pompous stuffy meetings on Earth or on any other Planet. He might not be in anybody's good books at the moment or quite himself but on this point, Daniel is right."

Remembering all those meetings Jack was in the shadows and the man's frustration, Roberta smiled and said firmly, but gently. "Jack, you've always found another way to get your point across and make the meetings better. I'm going to miss that when I return to DC and the meetings will get longer and boring. But you have been doing it from the moment you stepped through the Stargate as their premier team leader, we need that talent to carry on and be passed on to others. Even now you are making sure those that know about the Stargate programme are being kept safe and gathering together the ones for the future. The Waterfall will be your headquarters as visitors can arrive and leave without any fuss. The Hammond will be available for your use whether you have found another vessel for yourself or not."

Knowing deep down he had no choice in the matter, if he walked away Sam would be barred from all programmes or from him, be unable to talk to him about anything. This way he would keep his family and clearance, and sighed saying. "Can't say no, then?"

Hearing his tone, Roberta knew he'd accepted it and was giving them both a way to carry on talking as equals, so confirmed gently but firmly. "No Jack. But you will have time to fish and watch others work, I'm sure we can manage that."

Keeping his true feelings under control, Jack countered firmly. "No fancy dress of any type."

With a chuckle Roberta answered. "A suit and an insignia of some kind showing Earth and the Stargate possibly. Your show Jack." then added. "Lady Lya?" having noticed she had glanced at Elder Opher and was now looking at them again.

Lya nodded her acceptance, then in her usual gracious manner and smile said. "As space travellers we endorse that choice, and agree Master Jack and SG1 have carried out that role in the past and will do so in the future. The future will be through, Atlantis City along with Thor's legacy and gift of the Yggdrasil and Master Teal'c with his free Jaffa Council when the time is right." She paused for a brief moment then added. "We must now bring this meeting to a close as Master Jack needs rest."

Knowing there was no arguing with Lya, Jack butted in quickly. "I need a word before you clap your hands and we disappear from each other."

With a smile Lya nodded, knowing she was just going to do that.

Getting his mood right Jack smiled back and started "At least you get the warning with Lady Lya, Thor just made you disappear when he felt like it." before adding. "Jethro, you need to contact New Orleans office and get Pride and his daughter over to the Mountain for a visit as he's one of us. Caroline you need to check him over in the infirmary, he's been in the wars recently. Director Vance, Hank will contact you when he has found a suitable way to detect Ancients without anything obvious like a ball, you report back to him rather tell them. Delilah, if you feel you would like to join the fun as you do your day job." hearing her chuckle and seeing her nod, he added. "Chat to Tim and he'll tell Hank."

As Jethro and Emily were smiling at him hoping he would understand what they felt, Jack turned his attention to the person concerned and finished. "Lady Roberta don't take this the wrong way, but you are Ancient ... and Jethro and or Emily are dying to play ball with you to find out how strong it is."

"Really?" Roberta exclaimed with delight and a chuckle, before adding. "You already knew? You told me months ago to grab the first opportunity to come here and I did. Wow … So that tingling I can feel is not just excitement then?"

"No it is not, and you will need to be tested and then see if your family will be brought into the programme." Jack answered with a grin.

"That is so going to blow their minds." Roberta exclaimed, seeing Lya's slight nod, added. "We will finish there Jack and let you rest. You are starting to flicker and that can not be good."

With that Lady Lya started to raise her arms in the familiar arc as she said. "Ladies and Masters on Earth we bid you farewell. We will contact you again when we are in Earth's orbit to bring Master Jack and Lady Samantha home." and clapped her hands to bring the call to an end and both groups looking at the empty space where the others had been a moment before.
