A/N: Ok so I know that I haven't been writing a lot lately but a lot of things have been going on in my personnal live that has made it hard to do so and after watching Season 6 finale of Fire, I became a bit loss in terms of what to with Dawsey going forward but I pushed myself to write this chapter and although I'm pretty sure it's not my best work, I hope it doesn't suck too much.

Matt was painfully walking down the stairs with his cane. He walked around the corner and found Gabby cooking breakfast. "Morning beautiful." He kissed her neck and stood behind her.

"You should have called me to help you down the stairs babe."

"You've taken care of me enough since I've got back home, you need to take it easy too."

"Matt." She sighed, casting her eyes downward before looking at him. "I'm fine." She insisted.

"I know you keep telling me that but I want to be able to take care of you." He wrapped his arms around her waist, his hands resting on her belly.

"There's plenty of time for that." She turned the stove off and wrapped her arms around his neck. "How is your hip this morning?" She had felt him toss during the night and she had watched to see what was bothering him and realized that he was trying to turn in his sleep but having trouble with it.

"It's fine." He smiled at her, leaning down for a kiss.

"I know you're lying Matt, I saw you toss and try to turn in your sleep. It's ok to admit you're in pain"

"I'm not in pain." He spoke loudly, irritation lacing his voice, pulling away from Gabby.

"Matt." She yelled back as he limped out of the kitchen. She exhaled deeply and rubbed her temple. She knew this was hard on him but he didn't let her help him and she was scared that that he was hiding something from her about his condition.

"Is everything ok mom?" Luis bounced in the kitchen. "I heard Matt scream."

"Everything is fine baby." She ruffled his hair. "Matt is just having a hard time. Let's get you some breakfast." She smiled at him and looked at the direction Matt had gone in and hoped that when he came back that he would feel better. Shortly after, everyone filed in the kitchen and Gabby held a hot cup of tea to her lips as she watched the kids eat, her thoughts on Matt. She set the cup on the counter and went in search of him. She went upstairs and didn't find him so she made her way to the basement where he was nowhere to be seen. Her last logical choice was the garage and the yard because he couldn't drive just yet. She found him in the garage, hammer on his hands, hammering away. She couldn't see what he was working on but she knew he wasn't supposed to make that kind of effort. "Matt?" She called out when he stopped a few seconds. He jumped, startled and turned to face her.

"What do you want from me Gabby?" She got that he was struggling but he sounded angry now.

"I just came to see if you wanted some breakfast?" She tried a neutral subject

"Sure." He didn't want to argue again with her again. "Are the kids still sleeping?" He walked inside with her, trying to ignore the sharp pain in his side.

"No, they're eating. They'll be happy to see you." She smiled at him as he wrapped his arm around her waist.

The kids immediately started telling Matt about their day with uncle Antonio and aunt Laura who were taking everyone to the pier along with Diego and Eva and Gabby watched him as Matt smiled at their excitement. The picture in front of her looked exactly how it usually was, Matt's injury momentarily forgotten.

"Alright kids. Go get dressed so Tio Antonio doesn't wait for you." Gabby called, starting to empty the table. They all ran up the stairs, leaving them alone. "Do you want to help me clear these?" She tried another angle with him, trying to figure where his head was at and it looked like it was working.

He took both hands against the table to help him stand up and he took a plate in his hand and slowly made his way to the sink. "Sure." They cleared the table together in silence but Gabby watched him closely. "You know, I can feel you watching me." His lips twisted into a smirk.

"Sorry." She looked down as if she had been caught with her hand in the cookie jar. "I just."

"Hey, it's ok." He limped towards her and wrapped his arms around her. "I'm sorry about before."

"Matt, I just want you."

"Don't. It's all on me. I should be helping you instead of putting all this stress on you and the baby." His hand hovered over her small bump.

"And I love you for that but I need you to understand that me and baby are doing just fine." She smiled up at him. "I just want you to be healthy Matt but for that it takes time and I know you're stubborn and taking your time isn't in your blood." She played with invisible lint on his shirt.

"I promise I'm going to try." He pushed a strand of hair behind her ear. "I'll go take a shower before your brother gets here." He kissed her forehead.

"Ok." She watched him go and waited for him to be out of her eyesight before finishing up in the kitchen.

Matt stopped at the bottom of the stairs as the pain in his pelvis flared up and the pounding in his head became louder and he closed his eyes for a short second, taking a deep breath before making his way towards his and Gabby's room. In the past few days, he had started seeing black spots when he tried concentrating harder for longer periods of time and no matter how many painkillers he was taking, the pain in his pelvis was always there. He had comtemplated shharing this information with Gabby but seeing her having to take care of the five kids and her job at the hospital, he didn't want to pile it on her even more.

He removed his shirt and rubbed the sore muscle of his arm. He had hammered with his operated arm and the anger that he had been feeling in the garage had made him work through the pain but now it was acting up. He put the water as hot as he could and sat on the chair that they had set in there while he recovered. The heat relaxed his tender muscles but did nothing to lessen the pain he felt in his head. He heard some commotion downstairs so he knew that Antonio was there. That was his cue to turn the shower off and change into something more presentable. He pulled a short sleeved polo over his head with a pair of jeans and he made iit down the stairs just in time for Luis to tell his uncle about what happened in the morning.

Antonio gave Matt a death stare as his foot made it to the bottom stairs, Gabby warning him firmly. "Antonio." Both of them looked at her and Antonio immediately cut his glare and took care of getting everyone's coat on. Once that was done, all the kids gave Matt and Gabby a hug to left the house, Antonio in the back of the line, closing the door behind them. "I'm sorry about Antonio."

"Don't worry about it, I deserved every bit of it."

"Ok. So now that we have the whole house to ourselves." He pulled her closer to him.

"We get to go sit in the yard and relax, I think we've earned it." Matt guided her outside and they sat on one of the long chairs, Gabby between his legs. "I'm really sorry I snapped at you this morning." He gently rubbed her shoulders.

"You don't have to apologize for that." She turned around and kneeled between his legs, not wanting to straddle him and put pressure on his pelvis.

"Yes, I do." He pushed a strand of hair out of her eyes. "I've been saying that I have to help you with the kids and be there for you and the baby and all I do is put some more stress on you."

"Look Matt." She took his hand in hers and started playing with his wedding band. "When I married you, I promised to be there for you, for better and for worst." He was abbout to protest but she raised her hand to stop him from saying anything. "Being a firefighter's wife isn't easy. Since we've been together, you've had more injuries that I care to remember. I feel like you have nine lives and sometimes I get scared, really scared. But then I remind myself of all the good you are doing and I hold my breath every single shift you go out because you are amazing at your job and you save so many people. And I've known you long enough to know that being patient during a recovery is not in your blood but I need you to listen to me. Please, PLEASE let me help you."

"It's not easy for me Gabby." He looked down at their hands. "I promised you that I'd be there for you too and right now, I'm not even close to the husband you deserve or need me to be."

"Matt." She pressed her fingers to his chin and forced him to look at her. "I'm ok, you need to trust me when I say that." She kissed him. "This baby." She pressed a hand to her bump. "We didn't see it coming, we didn't plan for it and yet it's there, it's our miracle. So I need you to trust me and you need to lean on me while you recover, can you do that for me, for us?" She pleaded with him.

"I'll do my best." He placed his palm on her cheek and leaned down for a kiss.

"And when you're all healed up, you can go back to being the alpha male." She chuckled, making him laugh too.

"Deal."

"You'd tell me if something was wrong right?" She ran her fingers through his hair.

"It's nothing serious." He smiled at her.

"What is it Matt?" She pressed, trying to get him to open up to her.

"I've been having head aches but they said it was to be expected in the following weeks, considering what my body has been through. I'll talk about it to my doctor next time I see him if it'll ease your mind."

"Thanks." She rubbed her thumb against his cheek. "But right now, you need a shoulder rub."

"My shoulder is fine Gabby."

"And you must think I'm blind if you think I haven't noticed the way you knaw at it. Just let me work on it, it'll make you feel better."

"Yes ma'am." That made her giggle and she repositionned herself so she was kneeling behind him this time, her fingers quickly digging into his shoulder. They spent part of the afternoon outsife after Gabby had made lunch for them. She left Matt in the yard while she went to prepare dinner for everyone. She watched him through the kitchen window and her mind kept wondering if he was being totally forthcoming with her about his health but decided she couldn't go nuts with what ifs right now.

It wasn't long until Antonio returned with the kids, entirely hopped up on sugar. "Everything ok sis?" He asked for the first time since he hadn't been able to do so before.

"Yeah, everything is great." She smiled at him over her shoulder.

"Then why was Matt yelling this morning?"

"Antonio." She warned, looking him straight in the eyes.

"No Gabby. If something is going on, I want to know and you know you can't hide anything from me."

"Fine." She sighed, looking around to make sure that no one could hear them. "Matt has been having some head aches and isn't sleeping well so he just snapped at me when I insisted a little too much this morning. It's nothing we can't overcome Tonio."

Antonio eyed her suspiciously before pointing his finger at her. "If he does anything to hurt you."

"I love you for being so protective of me Antonio but nothing will happen." She put her hands on his shoulders and kissed his cheek. "Thanks for taking them to the pier."

"Anytime sis. Call me if you need anything."

"I will, thanks." He kissed her cheek before heading back out and going home. Matt returned inside as the kids came running down from their rooms, Grace litterally tackling him.

"Be careful." He winced as she made contact.

"Sorry daddy." She hugged him again before getting into a full account of their day. Once Grace started, the rest of the kids started talking over her, the sound becoming increasingly loud, making his ears ring.

"Maybe not everyone at the same time." Gabby told them, everyone but Filipe talking now but it only took a second before everyone else started talking and screaming over each other.

"I SAID STOP YELLING." All five kids jumped at this outburst, Gabby's eyes bulging from surprise as well.

"MATT!" She scolded him, the kids all dumbfounded.

"WHAT? YOU ASKED FOR A SIMPLE INSTRUCTION AND THEY CAN'T LISTEN." This was the first time that Matt had been this mad since they met.

"Kids, I want you to go to your rooms while I talk some sense into your father." Gabby spoke low, anger laced in her voice. She waited for the sound of their doors closing before she took a shot at him. "What the HELL is your problem Matt?" She banged her hands against the kitchen table.

"MY PROBLEM, IS THAT THEY DON'T LISTEN. WE ASK THEM A SIMPLE REQUEST AND THEY CAN'T LISTEN TO US."

"Lower your voice." She threatened him. "The neighbours don't need to hear you be completely UNREASONABLE." She threw her hands in the air.

"UNREASONABLE? REALLY GABBY?" All I'm asking, is a little bit of quiet in this house."

"Matt, they're KIDS! You can't expect them to be perfect and 100% obedient. What is wrong with you? You usually have more patience." Her hand flew to her stomach.

"Gabby? What's wrong?" Matt suddenly snapped out of his anger.

"Don't touch me." She growled, visibly still upset.

"Talk to me." He tried reaching out to her but she took a step back.

"I SAID DON"T TOUCH ME." She pointed at him to stop him from coming any closer. The pain was getting steadily higher in her abdomen when suddenly, her world turned dark, her knees giving under her.

Matt watched helplessly as she fell to the kitchen floor. "Gabby." He took the two steps that were separating them from each other and craddled her in his arms. "Gabby, baby, talk to me." He tapped her cheek gently but nothing happened. He reached into his pocket and dialled 911.

"911, what's your emergency?" The man on the other line asked.

"My girlfriend, she's pregnant and she just lost consciousness."

A/N: OH NO! I did it AGAIN. Ok so at first, this chapter wasn't going to go exactly like this but when I started writing it and my brain started getting organized, this is how I wanted to play this out. So I know that some of you will throw bricks at me for this ending, I promise you there's a purpose to it. So as always, I hope it wasn't that bad and PLEASE leavve a review with your thoughts, it always helps. - Sarra
