A/N: Ok so I know it took me FOREVER to post the last chapter of this story but I was lucky enough to be stuck waiting for my daughter while she did her general dance practice for her end of the year show and I wrote this chapter in whole in one fail swoop. Enjoy

Matt had his face in his hands while he waited for Gabby to be wheeled back into her room. She had regained consciousness as the medics had loaded her into the ambulance but Matt had to stay with the kids until Kelly and Leslie arrived to look after them while he was gone. When he arrived at Med, Maggie had given him an update but now all he could do was wait and feel bad. He had been the cause of her pain and he couldn't live with himself.

He stood as they wheeled her back in and watched as they hooked her to a heart monitor and put a foetal monitor around her abdomen and the beeping was making his heart race.

"What's going on?" He ran his hands nervously through his hair. "What are you guys getting done?" Their silence was upsetting him right now but finally April looked at him and gave him a smile.

"We did a head CT and now I'm just going to do a complete blood panel and they will be in shortly to do an ultrasound to make sure that everything is ok."

"And how high are the chances that something happened to the baby?"

"We won't know until all the results are in, I'm sorry Matt." She pulled the blanket over Gabby's legs and patted Matt's shoulder before she left, leaving them alone.

"I'm sorry." He got choked up as tears welled in his eyes. "This is all my fault. I should have gone to the doctor before, seen the signs."

"You damn right it''s your fault." He turned to find a livid Antonio in the doorway.

"I didn't mean to."

"I don't want to hear it Matt, the kids told me everything. You should leave." It wasn't a request but more like an order.

"Antonio, I can't. I love your sister and I can't bear the thought that I did this to her. I need to be here when she wakes up."

"Right now you need to leave before I make you and believe me, you don't want that." Matt hung his head in defeat and stood from his chair. He leaned over her and kissed. Her forehead.

"I love you baby. Be strong, I know you'll fight like hell." He whispered to her ear before leaving. He walked past Antonio and the tight space made for them to bump shoulder against shoulder, Antonio being a bit more forceful there. He walked out in the hallway, not looking where he was going and he bumped into someone. "I'm really sorry." He apologized profusely.

"Matt." He looked up and was face to face with Conor Rhodes. "What are you doing here?" His smile fell when he saw Matt's face. "Matt, what happened?" He grabbed him by the shoulders.

"Gabby and I got into a huge fight and she started feeling pain in her abdomen before she lost consciousness. It's all my fault." He said again.

"Tell me everything that happened." So Matt went into a detailed account of the events of the whole day.

"What's wrong with my doc?"

"Let's find out." He sent him into one of the exam rooms and started doing a physical exam. "Ok everything seems to be in order but I'll go and order a blood panel and an MRI of you brain and then we'll go from there. If there's something wrong, we'll find it.

"I'll be in the chapel." Matt turned around and Conor watched him go, his shoulders slumped in defeat.

Matt walked into the empty chapel and took a seat in one of the pews linking his fingers together and leaning his forehead against his hands. He wasn't the best Christian but it was the only thing that he could think of right now. "I know that I haven't been a good faithful but please don't hold it against her. She's the best thing that's happened to me and I couldn't live with myself if something happened to her or the baby because I was too stupid to get checked sooner. I was impatient and stupid and she doesn't deserve to suffer because of it. Please don't take her away from me, I'm begging you." A sob escaped his lips, bouncing off the walls of the small hospital chapel.

Connor came only a few minutes to come get him to take him into radiology to get his head checked. The MRI would show a better map of his brain than a scan could and hopefully they could get some answers.

"I need you to hold completely still for me Matt." Connor said from behind the window. Matt gave him a quick nod and he was moved into the machine for what seemed like forever. He hated getting this done but for Gabby, he was willing to do anything to make sure this didn't happen again.

About forty five minutes later, he was changing back into his clothes. "So what now?" He buttoned his shirt back up.

"It'll take a little while before we get the results. I say go be with your wife and I'll find you when I have some more answers.

"I doubt I'll be able to do that." He ran his fingers through his hair.

"Fight for it, if there's anything, tell them to page me."

"Thanks Connor."

"Anytime." He nodded before watching him go.

When Matt returned to Gabby's room, Antonio was standing outside and Matt could see their parents inside and he cursed under his breath. If Antonio was this mad, he couldn't imagine how their parents felt about him right now.

"Oh no, you're not going in there." He pressed a hand to his chest when he saw him walk up.

"Please Antonio, I need to see her." Matt wasn't being insistent but he wanted to see him wife.

"She doesn't want to see you."

"Antonio." He turned to find his mother in Gabby's doorway. "You don't get to decide that son." She laid a hand on his shoulder. "She's asking for you Matt." She gave his arm a squeeze as he apologized to her under his breath and when he walked inside her room, he couldn't even look at her father out of guilt.

"Matt." Her voice was weak but he smiled when he saw her.

"Gabby, I'm so sorry. I did this, it's all my fault.

"Matt stop, it's ok, I'm ok."

"Don't say that. You have every right to be mad as hell at me right now. I'm the reason you're in here." They were now alone in the room, Edouardo having left , pulled away from his wife.

"We'll get through it all. We just need to find out what is going on with you." Once again, he didn't deserve her. She was there, plugged to all these machines and he was the one she was worrying about.

"I'm already working on that." He took the chair next to her bed. "Connor is waiting for my MRI results."

"When did you do that?" She hadn't expected this answer.

"About an hour ago when I left you're side, I bumped into him."

"What a cute couple we make." She chuckled, Matt clearly not finding this funny.

"Don't Gabby, it's not remotely funny."

"Matt, I'm ok." She took his hand in hers. "We'll get through this together."

"I'd never forgive myself if something happened to you, or the baby. Did they give you some results? And what about the ultrasound?"

"April says everything is ok in my blood panel but my pressure was a bit high but we'll know more when the doctor comes in to do the ultrasound."

"I was so scared." He sat next to her on the bed and pressed his forehead against her chest, his hands holding her sides and breathing her in. "You were so mad and when I saw you in pain." He mumbled into her chest.

"Shhh, it's ok Matt." She ran her fingers in his ruely hair, his hands giving her sides an extra squeeze. The sound of her heart monitor and the fast thumping of the foetal monitor relaxed him a bit but their moment was interrupted by the doctor wheeling in the ultrasound machine.

"Mr and Mrs Casey." Nathalie Manning had a warm smile and put them at ease right away. "How about we take a look at baby to make sure everything is ok."

"Once I'm done taking measurements and taking pictures, we'll look over your labs and see what is our next step." Both nodded and Gabby let her apply the jelly to her stomach and she pressed her wand into the skin to take the pictures. The first minutes were silent except the occasional beeping from when the measurements were taken and once some pictures were printed, Dr Manning turned the screen towards them so they could take a look too.

"So this." She pointed to the screen, is your baby's heartbeat." Even though it wasn't the first pregnancy for the two of them, they couldn't help but grin at the sight. She pointed to every body part but she stopped once she found what she needed. "So what I want the two of you to look at is the region here." She pointed to the screen. "Now your labs came back normal and from what I got from what happened, your pressure spiked and that's what caused you to lose consciousness."

Both Matt and Gabby listen to what she was saying, trying to take in as much information as they could. "And what does that mean for the baby and Gabby?" Matt asked as he squeezed her hand in his.

"Well you have to take it easy from now on but there's something that we'll have to check throughout the pregnancy."

"What's that?" Gabby's heart was racing with fear.

"That, is your placenta. You have what we call placenta previa"

"That sounds dangerous."

"In some cases it can be but right now, you'll have to keep an eye on the progression."

"What does that mean Dr Manning?" Matt was starting to be nervous.

"I'm not looking to scare either of you and Gabby, I know that you know what I'll say next."

"You're saying there is a chance that I could bleed during labor." She was holding her breath and Matt looked at her with terror in his eyes.

"What I'm saying is that we need to monitor you closely throughout your pregnancy. If there's any chance things could go wrong, they'll perform a c-section to deliver the baby."

"What does that mean my day to day life?"

"I'm sorry Gabby but I'm going to have to put you on bed rest until the rest of the pregnancy." She looked at Matt and couldn't believe her ears.

"That can't happen Nathalie." Gabby tried to protest but Matt placed a reassuring hand on hers.

"Gabby." He ran his fingers on her knuckles.

"You're not back on active duty yet, how are we going to manage?" This was becoming to be a lot of information for her right now.

"We'll by fine babe." He promised her. "I just want you to concentrate on staying healthy and delivering a beautiful baby. The rest, doesn't matter."

"I'll let the two of you alone. If there's anything, don't hesitate to tell Maggie and she'll find me."

"Thanks Dr Manning." Matt watched Gabby as she processed the information. "Talk to me." He rubbed her hand.

"How can this be happening?" He could see the tears well up in her eyes.

"I don't know." He kissed her fingers. "It's all my fault."

"There's nothing you could have done here Matt, its just nature." She tried to stay rational through her grief.

"We'll get through this, I promise." Just as he pulled her in his embrace, Dr Rhodes poked his head in the room.

"You guys have a minute?"

"Yeah. Things can't get worst than the news we've just been delivered." Gabby brushed her tears away but a second doctor came in with Conor that she didn't know.

"I got the results of your MRI and we know what has been causing your head aches so I came to talk to you about that. This is Dr Abrams , he's a Neurosurgeon and he'll be able to explain to you what's going on."

"Ok so we looked through all your images and the reason that you've been having those head aches is that there is a small blood clot in your head that's pressing on the wrong second of your brain." The proverbial second brick had now fallen on their heads.

"What does that mean?" Matt was trying to stay strong for the both of them.

"It means that we'll have to perform a small, non invasive surgery to remove the blood."

"And how long will it take and how long is the recovery time? Matt asked, Gabby stunned in silence, a single tear rolling down her cheek.

"It's a small procedure that will take about an hour and once you're in recovery and awake, we'll do another MRI to make sure that we removed everything and then you'll be able to complete your recovery schedule as planned for your shoulder and your pelvis."

"So nothing has changed for me right?"

"Absolutely nothing." Connor confirmed. "Now I know this is really scary for the both of you and with everything that's happened with Gabby, I can understand the fear that you're experiencing but I promise that we'll take good care of you."

"Thanks Connor and thank you Dr Abrams"

"I'll let you two alone and I'll come see you later to fill in some admission papers." Both nodded and they were left again alone to process everything. They stayed in silence for a few long minutes before Matt broke the silence.

"Where is your head at?" He pushed a strand of hair behind her ear.

"How are we going to manage this with five kids Matt?" She finally looked at him.

"We have amazing families that will do everything they can to help us, we'll be ok, I promise." He cupped her face in his hands and pressed a tender kiss to her lips.

They spent the rest of their evening talking and trying to figure out how they were going to navigate through this latest challenge but one thing they knew, they would face it together once again.
