Early next morning

"Aracho, wake up!" someone yelled, busting into the room where said teenager was sleeping. "We ha-" Before they could continue, they found themselves struck by a thunder spell and shocked to the ground.

"Who the hell a-Oh...Sorry, Guy," the mage continued, quickly helping the myrmidon to his feet. Chanting another spell, he warded away the effects of the lightning on the Sacaean's body. "What happened?"

"Hector and Eliwood want us to leave now," Guy explained. "They said something about a Caelin being attacked."

"What!?" Aracho yowled, now fully awake. Jumping back to the bed, he grabbed all of his things in a matter of seconds and joined Guy at the door. "Don't stand there, come on!"

"Hey! You're the one that shocked me with a thunder spell!"

"Don't sneak up on me like that, then!" the kid yelled back as the two ran through the halls.

"I didn't!"

"Yes, you did!"

"I just banged open the door!" the swordsman refuted.

"That's sneaking up on me!"

"How!?"

"Because it is!" Aracho returned as the two made it to the entire group, who already seemed to be ready to go. "We have to help out Lyn and the others!"

Hector agreed with an urgent nod of the head. "We can't spare another moment!" All in concordance, the group swarmed out of Castle Laus in the darkness of the early morning set on rescuing their friends in Caelin.

Later that day…

It was only about two or three hours after sunrise when Eliwood and the group found themselves at the foot of the forest outside Castle Caelin. "We cross the forest, we'll be right at the castle," Aracho said, with his strongest fire tome out. Looking over down the hill, he saw a decently-sized group of Laus soldiers, thirty or so from his view, scouting around. "And there's the welcoming committee."

"Why are their archers advancing?" Hector asked, pointing at a group of five bowmen running to the front lines. They wasted no time in readying their arrows, before pointing their bows high. "They must be aiming at something high."

"Lord Eliwood! Above! It's a pegasus knight!" Marcus warned. Exactly as the paladin said, a pegasus with a purple-haired body on it flew speedily in their direction.

"Florina! It's Florina!" Aracho called. Upon seeing him, the girl's eyes widened immensely.

"Aracho!? What are you-"

"Get down! NOW!" the teen interrupted, pointing towards the archers in the process of shooting their arrows. The Caelin pegasus knight screamed as she barely avoided the onslaught of arrows that tried to bring her down. In doing so, however, she lost control of the flying animal and was now on a collision course with them. "Um, she's gonna crash," Aracho said, slowly walking in a different direction.

Before anyone could fully ascertain exactly what was going on, Florina fell off her pegasus, landing on Hector before rolling onto the grass. Almost instantly afterwards, the pegasus ALSO fell on Hector, neighing loudly until the Ostian noble could get it off of him. Ignoring the desire to laugh at the axeman's misfortune, Aracho and Eliwood both ran up to help Florina to her feet. "Florina? Can you hear me?"

"Lord Eliwood? I…"

"The archers almost hit you," Aracho explained, seeing that she was still in a daze. "You lost balance and fell off. The giant lug over there cushioned your fall," he added, pointing to Hector.

"Oh, he…"

"You got lucky," Hector said, clearly irritated. "I didn't. You landed right on top of me."

"Oh!" Lyn's friend gasped, horrified and deeply apologetic.

"Hector saved you," Eliwood covered, trying to make it sound a little bit better for his friend's sake.

"I saved no one!" Hector rejected. "I simply gave her a soft place to land. A bale of hay could've served that purpose better than I did."

"Anyways!" Aracho yelled, interrupting the incoming banter. "Where's Lyn? We already know about what happened at the castle."

"O-Of course!" Florina said, straightening out completely. "Lord Eliwood, Lady Lyndis is beyond that forest," she answered pointing due east. She's waiting for a chance to assault the castle."

"She's what!?" Marquess Pherae's son shouted in disbelief, before shaking his head. "Still...It's good to hear that she's safe."

"She's fine, however, Lord Hausen has been captured and is still inside the castle."

"I see...Let's go then!" he declared, before starting to advance.

"Some of you go and meet with Lyndis!" Hector called out. Instantly, Aracho, Erk, Lowen and Matthew broke out to go east to where she hid away, while Dorcas and Marcus stayed behind to help protect Merlinus and their supplies. Taking the route close to the nearby lake, the small group of four saw four Laus mercenaries before a village, standing vigilantly in wait for anyone that came close to them.

"What do we do?" Lowen asked. After a few seconds, Aracho pulled out a book and held it out to Erk.

"Can you use this?" the blue-haired mage asked. Although hesitant, his purple-haired partner-in-magic grabbed the Bolting tome.

"Well, here goes nothing," Erk muttered, before flipping to the incantation page. To help out a little more, Aracho chanted loudly so that he could hear exactly how it should be worded. Going a little slowly, Erk eventually caught up to speed on the spell and both of the mages finished their spell.

"Let a rip!" Aracho called, throwing his hand towards one of the mercenaries, closely followed by Erk. One after another, two gigantic lightning bolts dropped down on the group, directly hitting two of them and dazing the other two. Running in, Matthew and Aracho dispatched the three survivors with their daggers. "Come on! We can't be too far now!" Exercising extreme caution, the four went into the forest, checking every tree for a possible ambush.

After a couple of minutes of searching, a strong group of rustles caught their attention. Shushing everyone, Aracho took out both of his daggers and got into a position to attack. The sound eventually got louder, putting everyone on edge. Louder...Louder...Louder….

Suddenly, a figure jumped right from behind a tree, sword ready to cut. "Lyn?" Aracho called, blocking her strike. As the two stood at a stalemate, the Sacaean woman merely blinked while he broke a smile. "Lyn! It's me, Archy!."

"...Archy?" she called out, smiling when he nodded in affirmation. "Oh, it's really you!" she said with glee, hugging him in front of back, she quickly noticed that they were about the same height, compared to a year ago when she was taller. "You've...grown."

"I noticed," Aracho snorted in good-nature. Where are the-"

"Lady Lyndis! Have you-Well, look who it is!" Wil said, shortly followed by Kent and Sain.

"Aracho!? What are you doing here?" the green-dressed knight asked in genuine surprise.

"We're with Eliwood," he explained. "He and Hector from Ostia heard about what happened this morning, and we rushed straight here to help you out. Those two took the route up to the castle while we went looking for you."

"I see," Lyn muttered. "Then we must not be slow on our feet. Every second counts if we want to take back the castle!"

"It's good to know you being a noblewoman hasn't made you softer," Aracho noted, easily seeing that she hadn't changed a single bit from the plainswoman that rescued him after Sonia's murder attempt.

"I doubt I could ever fully adjust," she joked back as the combined group started to make their way north. "There are two ballistae on the hilltop. They will be ready to fire the second we step out of the forest."

"Hm...What can we do?" Sain muttered.

"Aracho, is there any way you can strike down the archers like before?" Kent asked.

The kid shook his head in the negative. "I could, but I have to be able to see them. The treeline is too dense."

"I see...Then we'll just have to push through," Lyn determined, slightly tightening the grip on the Mani Katti. Right after she said those words, the sounds of clashing metal could be heard in the direction of the forest's end. "That must be Eliwood. Come! We must help them!" Taking lead, Lyn ran swiftly through the forest, with everyone on her tail. The green-haired woman's prediction turned out to be true as the other group were fighting against what seemed like a whole unit of Laus soldiers.

"Get in where you can fit in!" Aracho called to everyone, before chanting a fire spell to even the playing field for Eliwood, who was engaged in battle against two cavaliers. As he finished, he cooked one of the knights and his horse in a flaming pillar, indicative of an Elfire spell. "Eliwood! Lyn and the others are with us," he informed.

"Great! Now, we need to get into the castle."

"As you say, boss man!" Aracho said good-naturedly, still on a high from reuniting with Lyn. Snapping his fingers, he dispatched the ballista archers with well-placed bolting spells. "The road is clear!" he informed his technical employer as he looked at the battlefield. From the moment Lyn and the rest of the forces linked together, they found no problem beating back the forces of Laus. Looking around, the mage-assassin found the two Lycian noblemen locked in combat against a knight in green-yellowish armor. "Should we help?" he asked Marcus, who had come ahead with Dorcas and Merlinus after the outside Laus forces were cleared out.

"It would be better not to interfere with Lord Eliwood and Lord Hector's battle," the paladin responded. "In the meantime, it would benefit to survey our allies for possible injuries." Nodding in agreement, Aracho walked over to the combined group to see Serra healing Florina's arm. Guy was about to use a vulnerary to help himself before Priscilla put her mend staff to his shoulder. Lifting an eyebrow in curiosity, the teen decided to leave that alone and focused his attention on Lyn, who watched the close of Eliwood's and Hector's battle with rapt attention.

"Lyn? You alright?" Aracho asked, snapping her out of her gaze.

"Hm? Oh, I'm fine, Archy. I was just...watching the one with Eliwood," she revealed. "He swings that axe around so wildly…"

"Oh, Hector? Yeah, it's a thing with him. Don't worry about it too much, though. He's aware of his surroundings," the mage tried to ease, a small smirk coming to his face as he remembered Linus going through the same criticism from Ursula. Unlike Hector, however, there actually was an incident where the younger Reed brother nearly lopped Lloyd's hand clean off with a reckless toss of his axe. "Fighters like him are rare, but dependable."

"...If you say so…" At that time, the general Bauker of Laus was defeated, opening up the castle for them to walk into. "Come on. It's time to move forward, everyone." At the word of the Lorca, everyone started walking to the gate of Castle Caelin. "Thank you, Eliwood," Lyn said as she walked up by his side. "If not for your help, I don't know where I'd be right now."

"All of this happened because we routed Lord Darin at Laus. It's only right that we help," Eliwood reasoned, once again surprising the Black Fang member with his selflessness.

'Why couldn't every noble be like this?' Aracho mentally said. 'Our jobs would be a lot easier.' ...Well, on second thought, they wouldn't have many jobs considering their main income base was vigilante work against nobles...Specifics didn't really though; a world with decent nobles would be a better world for everyone.

"Eliwood, we're moving into the castle!" Hector yowled, with Oswin, Matthew and Serra already by his side in front of them.

"All right!" the red-head returned.

"Who's that again? Was it...Hector?" Lyn asked Eliwood. While the Pheraean called his friend over for a quick introduction, Aracho walked over to Matthew, who was waiting patiently next to Guy.

"Any idea what's about to happen?"

"Not a clue," Matthew returned with a sheepish smile. "I do hope we get there in enough time to rescue Marquess Hausen."

"I do too," Aracho said, looking slightly saddened at the situation.

"You? Wanting to rescue a noble?" the spy snorted. "What is the world coming to?"

"He's more than that!" the turquoise-haired kid rebutted. "That's Lyn's family. And family is important."

"...That's the second time you've said something like that," Matthew noted, his smile dropping. "Family really means a lot to you, I see."

"It's...A family is an important thing in the world to have," Aracho said quietly, holding his fire tome from Ursula close to his chest in a rare moment of open vulnerability. "I would never want anyone to lose theirs like this." '...Like how I lost mine,' he thought to himself. Even if he had contact with Ursula, he hadn't been able to speak to anyone else in a whole year to keep both them and himself out of Sonia's eye. Slowly but surely, it was eating him up on the inside, since it wasn't like he had any other people he could talk to.

"...Come on, they're going inside," Matthew said, lightly touching Aracho's shoulder. Instead of jerking, however, the undercover assassin did something that shocked both him and the Ostian-nothing. Making their way to the front of the group, Aracho took his place by Lyn, right in front of Guy and to the right of Matthew. As they entered the Castle halls, they found Laus soldiers in position, ready to take them on.

"It seems that there are still quite a few Laus soldiers remaining in the castle," Eliwood pointed out oh so obviously.

"Where are the Caelin guards?" Hector asked, shifting his gaze to Marquess Caelin's granddaughter.

"I think about half of them were killed in the surprise attack," she answered with a twinge of regret. "The survivors must be around here somewhere…"

"Perhaps they've been taken as prisoners," Eliwood suggested. "We'd better rescue them quickly. If Marquess Laus decides to hold them hostage, it will make seizing the throne much more difficult."

"Alright, it's settled!" Hector said as he lifted his axe.

"Seize the throne!" Eliwood announced as the soldiers began to advance, set to drive them out of the castle. "It's time to reclaim the castle!"

Spurring into action, the combined forces of Eliwood's and Lyn's groups advanced with renewed vigor. Making his way behind Lyn, Aracho chanted a thunder spell to paralyze an archer, giving the Sacaean/Lycian a perfect chance for a killing blow. "Archy! Come on, we'll head straight to the throne room!" Lyn called. Nodding, he and the girl separated from the rest of the group and more or less jumped directly into the group of Laus soldiers.

Running towards the enemy knight and archers, Aracho snapped his fingers before sending a strong Elfire spell to the knight, burning him inside his dark orange-colored armor. Seeing the archers step back from the fire, the Black Fang member decided to forego magic and drew his daggers, swiftly killing one as Lyn handled the other. "You seem even better with those than before," she commented with a small grunt.

"Comes with time," he shrugged. Going down the long hallway, they found themselves now blocked off by a bigger group; a knight, two cavaliers, three archers, an axeman and two nomads. "...That's not good."

"We might need help…" Lyn said, though the rush made by Laus's soldiers showed very clearly that they weren't going to be given an option. Quickly beginning a chant, Aracho closed his eyes and put his hand together as if he were praying. As he continued, a magical rune circle appeared around him on the ground that crackled with magic. Lyn cautiously stepped back after seeing the display, finding it best not to risk being caught in the crossfire of the incoming spell.

'Jeez, I'm gonna need a really long nap after this,' Aracho thought as he finished the spell. "Dragon Blaze!" he yelled. The circle under him disappeared, condensing into a ball that Aracho held right in front of him. Snapping it away, the ball broke into a torrent of blue fire, heading straight for all of the Laus soldiers in the hallways.

"Run! Get away!" one yelled. Unfortunately for them, the structure of the building didn't allow for them to be able to avoid the powerful fire spell. Aracho fell to the wall, panting heavily as he heard a chorus of screams behind the wall of fire.

"Aracho!" Lyn called in concern, helping her old friend off his feet. When he got off the wall, she looked ahead to see quite a sight.

Charred bodies littered the ground and the blue fire slightly danced across the hallway, dissipating entirely or cooling to an orange-yellow color. "Wow…" she gaped, before looking back at the mage.

"Are you two alright!?" Eliwood yowled, running up to the two with Hector and Matthew by his side. His eyes quickly shifted from Lyn and Aracho to the display that laid further down the hall. "...Wow."

"Someone got cooked," Hector quipped, while Matthew gave a knowing look to Aracho.

"Lady Lyndis, I'll take him."

"No, I can keep going," Aracho denied, shakily getting back to his feet and switching the fire tome for a basic thunder tome. "Let's just not recklessly run into any more giant groups of homicidal troops."

"Noted," Matthew dryly responded. With an agreement reached, the five continued forward. The rest were careful not to accidentally get burned by the leftover fire, something Aracho noted with a small smirk. Hearing the sound of hooves, the group turned around to see Sain, Kent and Marcus approaching them.

"Lord Eliwood," Marcus started. "The outside perimeter has been cleared and is being sweeped as we speak. The rest are protecting the merchant Merlinus and assuring that any trace of Laus is being searched.

"The surviving Caelin soldiers have been found and freed, save for Lord Hausen," Kent added, letting everyone take the smallest sigh of relief possible.

"Grandfather...Come, we must hurry!" Lyn pressed, turning around and going ahead. Without anything else to say, everyone followed Marquess Caelin's granddaughter deeper into the castle, where a small batch of knights stood, in front of the throne.

"I am Bernard, Knight Commander of Laus!" the general in the back boomed as he stepped forward. "I would test the might of those who bested Bauker!"

"That would be me," Hector said, stepping up to the challenge. As the two started their own brawl, everyone else took a support role against the remaining knights. Teaming up with Marcus, Aracho took to using simpler spells, striking a knight with a thunder spell. Although the enemy survived, the electricity in his system gave Marcus a chance to impale his defenses with his Silver Lance.

Right as they finished, Aracho found something out of the corner of his left eye. Looking back, he found a shaman preparing a spell. "Oh no you don't!" he yelled, unsheathing his daggers and running directly for him.

"Fool! Prepare for the Fang's punishment!" the shaman returned as he sent the black mass of dark magic at the teen. Easily avoiding it, Aracho cut the arm holding his tome before slicing the collarbone of his other arm.

"That's my line," Aracho smirked before promptly killing the dark magic user. Satisfied with the way things were looking, he put up his weapons and started to walk back into the throne room...Until another presence caught his eye. Instantly taking one dagger back out, he assaulted the hidden figure. Encountering resistance, Aracho snapped his fingers, shocking the assailant with a thunder spell. With spot-on accuracy, he disarmed the person and put a knife to their throat. "Spill it or you die. Who are you?"

"..."

"Aracho? Who is that?" Lyn asked, wondering what the commotion was. When Hector and Eliwood entered the small corridor outside the throne room, the former's eyes lit up with concern and shock.

"You...Leila! Aracho! Let her go. She's...safe." Catching what he meant, the Black Fang member released her cautiously before making his way over to Lyn's side.

"You know her?" Eliwood asked incredulously, looking at Leila as she recovered her weapon.

"...Yes," Hector sighed, as if he knew the companions next to him would disapprove of what he would next say. "Her name's Leila...She works for Ostia...She's a spy," he bluntly finished, admittedly irritated with trying to soften the truth.

"Lord Eliwood of Pherae and Lady Lyndis of Caelin, correct?" the spy asked, looking at the other two nobles. When they nodded, she apparently found it acceptable to continue talking. "I am Leila. Pleased to make your acquaintance. Lady Lyndis," she then directed. "Marquess Caelin is back there receiving treatment," she informed, pointing towards the back of the castle, most likely the personal quarters of her grandfather."

"My grandfather is safe!?" Lyn shouted in glee, tears threatening to escape her eyes as she neared the spy.

"His life is yet his own."

"Ah! Father Sky and Mother Earth! Thank you for your mercy!" she praised, unable to keep the tears from falling out of her eyes. Shifting to the side, Aracho quietly comforted Lyn with a small hug and a wipe of her face, drying it off a little bit.

"Leila? What are you doing here?" Hector asked, a perplexed look on his face.

"I...I'm following Lord Uther's orders," she answered after the slightest of pauses. "I'm investigating Marquess Pherae's disappearance."

"What?" Eliwood gasped, perking up instantly at the mention of his father. "My father? What have you learned?"

"Come with me," she followed, turning around. "We should talk in private." Walking, Eliwood and Hector closely followed her, with Lyn coming slowly after.

"Archy, you come as well," she said, inviting him. Nodding quietly, the turquoise-haired child followed step-by-step with her, eventually coming into a back room far away from the rest of the group. As they entered, Leila shot Aracho a suspicious gaze that Eliwood caught.

"Leila, was it? Do not worry about Aracho here," the red-head said. "He is a hire for me as a part of the trip. He was merely doing his job."

"...Let me start with my conclusion," she continued, completely ignoring the Black Fang member's presence. "...Marquess Pherae is alive."

"WHOO! Yeah!" Hector cheered, pumping his fist in the air. Eliwood, while not as animated, let out a great sigh of relief and joy at hearing the conclusion.

"That's wonderful!" Lyn added, with a smile on her face. Aracho also smiled, since it meant that their travels were not going to be in vain.

"Are you sure?" Eliwood asked. As happy as his voice sounded, the slightest apprehension still existed.

"I've been posing as a Black Fang member for months," she revealed. "That's where I got this information. I believe it is true."

'She's the spy!' Aracho shouted mentally, putting on a stone-cold face to hide any sort of reaction. '...That's the one…' So she worked for Marquess Ostia, and her name was Leila. Reddish hair. Purple outfit. Yellow-to-tan cloak. 'Got it.'

"The Black Fang is a guild of assassins founded about ten years ago by Brendan Reed," Aracho heard Leila say as he exited his thoughts. "They're based in Bern. Their arms reached quickly in several other countries. Originally, they only targeted nobles who abused their positions. The masses saw them as chivalrous, defenders of the common man. Their activities found widespread support."

"Chivalrous!" Hector repeated with clear disdain.

'Before Sonia came, it was true,' Aracho thought privately, resisting the urge to roll his eyes at the Marquess' brother. His own personal mission was to return the Black Fang from that creepy witch and bring it back to its former glory, after all.

"Then about a year ago, Brendan got married again," Leila continued, confirming what Aracho already knew. Even then, he had to act interested to keep the attention off of him. "Black Fang's operations have slowly changed since then. Now, they'll take on any target, no matter how difficult, as long as they're paid. And they're no longer killing criminals; anyone's a fair target."

'For the lackeys, at least,' Aracho added. Ursula had told him about these changes, but among the Four Fangs, things hadn't changed at all. Their targets remained nobles and corruptmen, since they had received the majority of their assignments directly from the mage's adopted father, Brendan Reed. At least that part of the group had remained untouched from Sonia's claws, for the time being.

"Is this Black Fang responsible for what's happened to my grandfather?" Lyn asked, a serious look on her face.

"Yes," Leila answered bluntly. "We've learned of a mystery man named Nergal, behind Reed's wife. It seems like the Black Fang is performing secret tasks across Lycia for Nergal."

'There it goes about him again,' Aracho thought, hearing the name he had come accustomed to hearing. From what he knew by way of Ursula, mostly the newer members had a positive view of the man behind Sonia, though none of them had ever seen him with the exception of Jaffar, the new member of the Four Fangs that replaced Jeremy two months after Aracho got separated from his family. The older members simply followed, knowing that they had no choice or they would be killed, branded as traitors of the Fang, which fell in with that ridiculous new law about killing those deemed weak.

"I do know that he is with Marquess Laus currently," Leila said, pulling Aracho out of his thoughts once again. "In a place called...the Dragon's Gate."

"Dragon's Gate? Where is that?" Eliwood lost, utterly bewildered.

"On an isle called Valor, off the southern coast of Lycia. I apologize, that is all the information I have," Leila finished, bowing before the Lycian lords.

"Of all the places, it had to be Valor," Hector complained. "Blast!"

"What kind of place is it?" Lyn asked.

"It's said that those who step on the island never return," Eliwood told her. "The common folk call it the Dread Isle...If that's where my father is, however, I will go and find him," he continued resolutely. "And this 'Dragon's Gate,' too!"

"I'm going with you," Hector followed instantly. "I'll tell you right now. You can't stop me."

"I'm going too."

"Lyndis," Eliwood called with a confused face. "I appreciate your kindness, but...shouldn't you stay here with your grandfather?"

"Laus must be stopped, or else they may come after my grandfather again," Lyn explained. "I also wish to help your father...Losing a parent...is an unbearable pain," she sighed, undoubtedly recounting her parents' demise at the hands of the Taliver bandits. "It's something I'd rather you not experience yet."

"Lyndis...Hector...Thank you. You give me strength," Eliwood said with a sincere smile on his face.

"Don't mention it."

"We're friends, Eliwood," Lyn added. "That's what friends do."

"...I'm going to continue searching," Leila said, cutting into the moment between the three Lycian nobles. The Ostian spy then turned her gaze directly to Lyn. "Lady Lyndis, I think it would be prudent to let the world believe that Marquess Caelin is dead."

"I understand. I'll do that. Thank you," Lyn nodded.

"No thanks needed. If you'll excuse me."

"Leila!" Hector called, right before she left the room.

"Yes?"

"Nergal and this...Ephidel. What do they look like?"

"I've yet to lay eyes on Nergal," she responded, making Aracho want to huff in irritation. What in the world does the mastermind of that homewrecking Sonia woman look like? "I've spoken to Ephidel on several occasions, however. He's...eerie," she said, suppressing a shudder. "He always wears a cloak that covers his face and yet…"

"What is it?"

"His eyes glow golden," she finished. "You can't miss them. It's...inhuman."

Aracho's gears nearly stopped at that statement. 'Just like Sonia…' he thought, remembering the cold, calculative eyes devoid of anything human staring at him the night she tried to kill him. Seeing no reason to stick around, Aracho was the first one out the room, thinking about nothing else until he saw Leila talking to...Matthew? 'Now what's this?' he thought, before deciding to listen in.

"You need to visit my hometown," he heard the male spy say.

"Is this where you were born? Why?" Leila then asked.

"...To meet my parents," he answered nervously. He recognized that tone anywhere; Matthew had a crush on her.

"Hm? Matthew…" Leila called, her voice sounding like one of guarded emotion, even though a lot of care could be heard on Aracho's end. The two really did care for each other, it seemed.

"Well, that's that!" Matthew said after a nervous laugh. "See you!" Before he could even comprehend the short bit he heard, he saw Matthew walking past him as if nothing ever happened.

"Now that is something," Aracho muttered before making his way back to the group. Apparently, the surprises were never going to end.
