Thank y'all for the replies in chapter 15, I hope you like this update.
I'll try my best to update my other stories, Chicago Fire got me upset and sad, sometimes I feel inspired to write, then I recall what happened in the show, and I don't know what to do with myself... : ( anyway I'll always love dawsey : )
Several weeks later...
It has been one week since Gabby got back to work, though not as a firefighter, she has been working as a paramedic in charge of ambulance 74 at Firehouse 13. Changing houses was her decision, Matt supported her, he could see she was getting better each day, therapy was helping her as they expected. Besides, Gabby has missed her days as a paramedic, everyone knows she is good at it; to be able to help people and save lives made her feel happy and alive at the same time. Taking care of Chicago's citizens was a mission that she has taken seriously from day one, so before being a firefighter she was a paramedic. There is no regret in choosing to work on the ambulance over the truck.
Gabby opened the front door of the house, "Ambulance 74, we are coming in...", Lucie, her partner in ambo followed behind her.
"Hey, we are here...", a teenager called them from the kitchen area.
"Please, help me... I think I twisted my ankle...".
"We are coming..", Gabby said as approached the patient, who sat on the floor, her legs stretched in front of her.
"My grandma fell from the stepladder, I put an ice pack against her ankle, her name is Laura Martin-".
"I can say my own name, Mimi, I hurt my foot, not my mouth...".
Gabby and her partner exchanged a look, "Okay... my name is Gabriela, and this is Lucie, we are gonna check your ankle, okay?" Wearing gloves Gabby touched her feet softly, there was a bruise and a swelling was showing in her ankle. "Do you feel any tingling or numbness?"
"No, it feels tender though... I tried to stand up, but it was painful...".
"I told grandma to not climb on the kitchen counter, but she didn't listen to me... I could have gotten the plates in the cabinet...", said the girl upset.
"I've done that a lot of times before Mimi when you weren't here... it wasn't my fault, blame the stepladder, I should have known better than to buy the cheap brand...".
"Grandma...", Mimi folded her arms as she sighed lightly.
"Mrs. Martin, did you hear any crack or pop when you injured it?" Lucie questioned her.
"Not, really... I am convinced that I didn't break my ankle...", she voiced as moaned, her eyes glued to her injury.
"We're gonna take you to the hospital, you might need an x-ray to get you an accurate diagnosis, alright?"
Mrs. Martin nodded, "Can Mimi go with me?" looking straight at Gabby.
"Of course I'll go with you, grandma... I'll never leave you...", the girl seemed honestly worried.
"We are taking you both with us in the ambo...", Gabby stated giving them a genuine smile.
"I'm gonna pick up the stretcher...", Lucie told Gabby. "You need anything else?"
"Yes, bring some padded board splints, please...".
"My grandma was a navy trauma surgeon for a long time... she even got medals for her service...". Mimi informed proudly as Gabby looked inside the aid kit bag and pulled out some bandages.
Peeking at the lady, "Thank you for your service, Mrs. Mar-", she cut Gabby off.
"I wished it hasn't cost me my marriage, however, we worked it out in the end, but...", Mrs. Martin declared with a slight shrug.
"Mimi, could you bring me some pillows, please?".
"Yeah, I'll be right back...", she replied.
"You know, she is a good girl, just stubborn sometimes... not too different from me...", Mrs. Martin laughed lightly.
"Believe me, I see myself in her, she is gonna be fine...", clearing her throat, "excuse me, what do you mean your work cost your marriage?" Gabby queried curiously, but she quickly backed out, "I'm sorry, you don't have to answer-".
"It's okay... my work required some time away from home, living abroad played hell on my marriage, so one day my husband called me and said: I love you, even so, I have fallen in love with someone else...".
That subject was close to home for Gabby, "Ouch...", giving her a sympathetic look.
"I couldn't wrap my head around his statement... hearing it broke my heart in a million pieces, I never had stopped to love him during our marriage... just the thought of him with another person caused my heart to break".
"I-I can only assume...", a sadness in Gabby's voice.
"We got divorced... years later, we met again by chance... that connection we had, it was still there, our love for each other was different, more mature I'd say. At first, I was afraid of getting hurt again, because my work situation hadn't changed, I knew I could live without him, but I didn't want to, so I had to let go of my fears and had to believe he would fight for us that time... and guess what? we got married, had kids...", she said with a gleam in her eyes. "He died last year, I miss him dearly...".
"I-", before Gabby could share her mind...
"I'm back...", Mimi brought two pillows and gave them to Gabby.
"Thank you, Mimi... why is Lucie taking so long-", Lucie's shout cut her off.
"You won't believe me...", breathless, she paused for a second.
"What is it? What happened?" Gabby asked astonished.
"There is no ambulance out there-", Gabby interjected.
"What? What are you saying?" Gabby stood up nervous.
"Someone has taken ambulance 74, stolen, I don't know... I ran the street up and down looking for it, there wasn't anyone in sight. What are we gonna do?".
Gabby closed her eyes as took a deep breath, then looked down at the patient and her granddaughter, "I'll request an ambulance to take you to the hospital, don't worry...".
Mimi and Laura eyed each other and nodded at Gabby.
"Lucie, help me to lie Mrs. Martin down, I'm gonna wrap a layer of soft padding around the area, then secure it with a bandage, not too tight... Next you put the pillows underneath her ankle...".
A couple of minutes later...
"Ambulance 74, you hear me?" an attendant asked through the radio.
"Yes...", Gabby responded promptly.
"Ambulance 61 is close to you guys, so they'll be there in 2 minutes...".
"Okay, thank you...", Gabby pressed her lips tightly.
Gabby caught Lucie checking in on her, "What?" a little annoyed.
"Nothing... you looked tense when they said ambulance 61... you told me you worked in Firehouse 51 for a long time, right?".
"Yeah... like you said, it was a long time ago, they are still family though, so everything is fine...".
Lucie didn't seem sold out by her answer but decided to not dwell on it.
35 minutes later... at Firehouse 51...
Foster entered the common room while Brett headed down the hallway to go to the bathroom...
"I'm starving...", Foster declared as watching her colleagues eating dinner... she walked over to the counter to serve herself a plate.
Matt was at the head of the large table, Foster was passing by him and stopped in her tracks.
"Captain, did Dawson tell you if they found their ambulance?".
Clueless, Matt lifted his head and furrowed his brow, his fork halfway from his mouth, "I-I don't know you are talking about...".
"Oh, sorry... I thought she had told you...", she didn't mean anything, she was just eager to know who had taken the ambulance.
"What happened to their ambulance?" Cruz asked.
Looking at him, "Someone stole the ambulance from the scene... Dawson and Davis were taking care of the patient inside her house when that happened, we were dispatched to assist them...".
"Nobody got hurt-", Severide got worried.
"No, no harm was done to the girls... we were leaving when their battalion chief came to take them back to Firehouse 13...".
Matt got up from the chair, "I'll call Dawson... thank you for let us know, Foster...", he nodded at her and marched to his office.
Pulling out his phone from his front pocket, he dialed Dawson... she hadn't picked up yet when he walked into his office... he was anxious as he waited for her to answer. His call went to her voicemail, he tried a second time... "Pick up, pick up...", he whispered.
"Hey, baby...", Gabby uttered softly.
Relieved, Matt ran a hand over his face, "Hey... you are okay? Foster just told us what happened...", he sat down on his bed.
"Yeah, we are fine... I meant to call you earlier, but Lucie and I were in Chief's office with headquarters, as soon as we got here, they had to have our report from the incident...".
"It's okay, the only thing that matters you are fine, both of you...".
"The dude, who's took the ambulance, was so irresponsible, he put our patient at risk...".
"He was found then?" he ran the tip of his tongue over his lower tip.
"A citizen called the police, he saw the guy abandoning the ambulance in front of his house, and it was damaged, so we were taken out of service... so I'm going home in a few minutes...".
"You could come here..." he suggested even knowing she wouldn't agree.
"Matt... I-I'd love to, but I can't... meeting Brett earlier was enough for me... we acted professionally around each other, still my partner realized something was up... we'll talk tomorrow, alright?"
"I got it... please call me when you get home...", he stood up.
"I will... and Matt, I have your answer...", Gabby leaned her back against her locker, her voice not giving any hint.
Matt shook his head, "You made your decision?".
"Yep... you'll know tomorrow-".
He heard someone calling her, "I don't know if I can't wait until tomorrow...".
"You'll be just fine, babe I'm sorry, Chief wants to see us again before we leave, I have to go".
"Of course, I love you, take care...".
"I love you, good night...".
Matt locked the front door and dropped his bag on the floor, then stepped out of his shoes. While he walked toward his bedroom, he wished Gabby was there with him, but they would meet later tonight to go together to concert music, they had invited Severide and Stella to join them.
He walked through his bedroom door, head down as took off his watch, when he raised his head his eyes widened for a second... then a smile formed on his face... Gabby was sleeping in his bed, a blanket covering part of her body... Slowly he lifted his t-shirt, threw it in the armchair, next he unbuckled his belt and got rid of his pants, wearing only his boxers...
Quietly Matt lifted the blanket covering Gabby and slipped under it... placing a hand over her back, she stirred in her sleep, groaning softly... Matt closed the space between them...
With eyes still closed Gabby smiled as Matt planted a few kisses on her back... "Good morning...", pulling her hair from her face, he kissed her cheek. "Is this a yes?".
Gabby nodded as bit her lips, "I'd love to move in here", she shifted her body towards him, looking into his eyes as cupped his cheek, "let's do it...".
Matt slid his arm around her, pulling her against his chest, "You know how much I love you, right?".
"I know...", Gabby ran her fingers through his nape hair.
"I love you more than you think...", they locked eyes, and Matt descended his lips to hers, they took their time kissing each other, a few times it was tender, then turned into fierce ones, shoving their tongue in each other's mouths...
Minutes later Matt had Gabby lying on her back while covering her body, their make-out session hot and heavy... Matt pulled away and kissed her neck, licking the area several times as his hand massaged one breast under her top... her moaning getting louder...
Before they could go further, Gabby held his wrist, "Matt... there-there is one thing... I need to know...".
Matt glanced at her, his chest up and down, "What is it?" he cradled her face.
Studying his face, "... There is something we haven't discussed yet... where do we stand on me getting pregnant? Are you still against it?".
He narrowed his eyes at her, "Gabby...", he paused, and averted his eyes, sitting in a straight position, Gabby copied him.
"It's important, to be honest with each other...", Gabby justified her question.
"You-you are right... let's talk...".
Do you think Casey kept his position on the matter or he changed his mind?
