Casey, Severide, Boden, and Herrmann were in the waiting room of Northwestern Medicine Hospital while Cruz was with Chloe in the postpartum room... their baby was born last night, then part of 51's family decided to congratulate the couple making a quick visit this morning... However, Chloe's family had arrived earlier, so they were the first visitors, it gave Stella and Gabby time to catch up as they were eating something in the hospital cafeteria...
"You never have told me about the surrogacy process...", Stella sipped her coffee. "Is it that complicated or does the whole process seem pretty easy?"
"Girl, we had a two and a half-hour meeting with a consultant... Clearly, there is a lot of conversation before we decide to go forward, I mean we even spoke with a lawyer to know the legalities of the process, for example establishing the parental rights...we discussed the costs of surrogacy as well... they showed us the financial options... it's a lot of details to deal with...", Gabby shook her head, "I don't think Matt expected all that..."
"Wow... How much does surrogacy cost?" Stella bit her sandwich.
"If we are speaking of a traditional surrogacy, it costs less than gestational surrogacy... because only the father's sperm is used to fertilize the surrogate's egg, whilst gestational's type require my eggs, so I'll need to go through ovulation stimulation, later egg and sperm retrieval, fertilization and embryo transfer... the average cost of an IFV is quoted around $12,000, plus the surrogacy process can range from $90,000 to $ 130,000. We don't even have 10% of this in our accounts."
"What are you two gonna do?" Stella thought the least she could do now was to show her support, "I'd like to help, if there is anyone that should be parents it's you and Matt...", Stella caressed Gabby's hand. "Severide and I, we are here for you both..."
Gabby cracked a small smile, "Thank you, Stella, it means a lot, but I asked Matt for some time to digest all of it... he has other agencies for us to check out, we're gonna schedule them in a few weeks... I just came to terms with surrogacy being the safe option for us to have a child together, to build this family we envisioned-", Gabby drank her tea.
"You two are a family", Stella stated. "Since you started this journey together, loving each other..."
"Matt said it a few times in the past and again recently, and you are right, and so is he, yet I feel that there is a piece missing in our little family, you know... we both have dreamed for so long to hold a baby in our arms..., surrogacy, it's our best option, I think", Gabby shrugged.
Stella studied her face, "Why am not feeling you are not excited about it? What is it, Gabby?"
"I-I don't know what's wrong with me, Matt and I talked, not just one time, but several times for the last couple weeks before we take the first step...", Gabby looked down, her hands fiddled with the hem of her shirt.
"You still wish you could get pregnant, is that?" Gabby stayed quiet, Stella let her be... "I am not Matt, but I would choose you first, you know what I mean... I can only imagine how would be for Casey to lose you, that's the reason I say that I always choose you..."
Gabby wiped a few tears, lifting her head, "...This feeling will go away, I just need to get used to the idea, I'll get there, you'll see..."
"Does Matt know you are feeling this way? If not, you should talk to him, it's not healthy to bottle up your emotions..."
"That man sees through me miles away, Matt has been amazing... besides therapy has helped us out with communicating better... He is quite aware of my fears, anger for not being able to carry our child, disappointed with all those obstacles since Louie... But you know what they say, time heals everything, so I'll give it time, we are not going to rush into anything Matt promised me that, so here we are..."
"Okay, please don't hesitate to ask for our help with the financial part... we can figure out it together...", Stella gave her an encouraging smile.
"I really appreciate it... it means a lot for me and Matt-", suddenly Gabby looked over her shoulder, furrowing her eyebrows, "... Matt is coming our way...", Gabby got up from her chair as Stella turned in her seat to glance at him.
A soft smile crossed his face, "Hey, babe", he pecked her lips, "I believe you put your phone on silent by accident", he smirked. Stella had left her phone at home.
"Oh no, I'm sorry", she said as grabbing her phone on the table, she looked at it quickly, then met Matt's eyes, "it's our turn to visit them?"
"Yeah... Boden and Herrmann walked out a couple of minutes ago... Cruz said we can go in..."
"Alright...", Gabby stared at Stella, "you need a minute to finish your snack?"
"No, I'm good...", Stella stood up and put on her jacket, "I can't wait to see the baby..."
"Come on", Matt wrapped an arm around Gabby, kissing the side of her head, "I love you..."
"He is so precious, Chloe...", Stella was close to the head of the bed, holding the baby in her arms. "So perfect... check out these little hands..., hey... baby, hey... it's me, aunt Stella and your godfather, Kelly.. ", his eyes half-open.
"We are all happy for you, guys...", Severide was next to Stella, an arm around her back as staring down at the baby.
Gabby and Matt were standing at the end of Chloe's bed, "Chloe, did you get the chance to rest for a little bit?"
"Yes...", she glanced at her husband sat down beside her, "... this man has been amazing... between the breastfeeding he took care of Brian, I had a few good naps...", she smiled sweetly at him.
"I'm glad to help out, we are a team.. so in the matter of changing, bathing, dressing, I'm up to the task... When the time comes, you two-", he pointed to Severide and Matt, "will learn from the best", he said with a finger aiming at himself, "me... don't be shy to ask for tips, I won't' charge any of you for them..."
"Don't be silly...", Chloe stated as tapping his leg. They all laughed...
"Would you like to hold him?" Chloe asked looking at Gabby.
"Yeah... I'd love to-", Gabby threw a glance to Matt, who nodded at her in support.
Joe chimed in, "First, let me take a picture of you two with the baby", he got from the bed and took a few shots of Stella, Severide, and Brian.
A few minutes later... Gabby walked towards Stella who transferred the baby to Gabby's arms...
It was a sight to behold, Matt thought, he only could imagine Gabby carrying their baby one day, he prayed to be true, to be a reality for both of them...
"Hi, Brian... I'm Gabby... you're so beautiful... yeah... we love you... we'll be here for you...", lifting her head, "Matt..." He came closer to her...
"This Matt...", Brian's eyes were wide open...
"Hi, Brian... we brought you a little firetruck and bear... I hope you like them...", he said as stroking his little hand.
"Now, it's your turn to take a picture with our little bear...", Cruz announced. "Please, y'all show me your teeth, I mean, except for Brian...", they giggled.
"My husband is a comedian, don't you think so?" Chloe grinned.
Matt sat down on the bed, his back propped against some pillows as Gabby was straddling him, both naked... they had made love a few minutes ago, later Gabby went to the kitchen and brought a slice of cake for them...
"Hmmm I don't know you, but I could eat cake all day...", Gabby said as licking her fingers, which had chocolate on them.
"Yeah...", he smirked. Taking another bite of chocolate cake, he offered Gabby more of it...
"Thank you...", Gabby opened her mouth... They went silent for a few minutes just enjoying the moment...
When the plate was empty, Matt put it on the side table...
"There is some chocolate on your face, babe...", he sat up straight and wiped her chin...
Gabby wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him closer, their chests touched...
Matt gazed down between them, his eyes traveling from her breasts to her neck and face, beautiful face... he stroked her cheek as her eyes were shining with love and adoration for him...
Gabby brushed her nose with his... parted her lips, and Matt pulled her in for a kiss... they kissed a few times, slow and wet...
His hands were rubbing her back up and down as her fingers combed his nape hairs...
Minutes later, Gabby drew in a few inches... they locked eyes, "Today... while-while I was holding Brian, then watching you carrying him..."
"Our time will come...", he told her, "... when you are ready..."
"I realize that I'm the one that is insecure, the one who requested some time to get my head wrapped around the decision to go forward with the surrogacy-", Matt cut in.
"Baby, it's okay... we have to do this right... you're my priority, I want you, remember?" he smiled warmly at her. "I want you above all..."
"I believe you, and avoiding the subject won't be any help, let's arrange visits to the other agencies... we know that the whole process takes time, and we'll need a plan, a financial plan..."
"I feel holding Brian changed something for you, but before we do it, I wanna take you on a weekend trip-",
Gabby raised her eyebrows to his last words, "A trip?" he cradled his face.
"Yeah, I've been thinking about it for a while,... when we come back, if you feel the same way, then we are going for it, it's alright with you?"
Her silence and unread face worried Matt for a few seconds...
"Where are you taking me?" her lips turned into a smile.
He sighed relieved... returning her smile.
"You are gonna say or do I need to torture you?", Gabby rubbed her lower body against his.
"If you are going to seduce me, it better you start now because I'm not planning to tell you, it's a surprise-", Gabby cut him off.
"I don't like surprises, please... tell me", she kissed him on the lips, "please", she whispered against his mouth.
"No...", he squeezed her backside as grinned at her pouting lips. "Believe me, you'll like it...".
Sighing..., "Okay... no sex for you until you tell me", she tried to get up from his lap, but she didn't go far, Matt held her back.
"Hey, baby, you are kidding, right?" he laughed awkwardly. When she rolled her eyes at him... "Right?" he narrowed his eyes at her.
Gabby noticed he was so astonished that she couldn't help herself and broke into a smile, "Matt, I'm playing with you", her hands were resting on his shoulders.
"For a second I thought you-", she interrupted him with a kiss on the lips.
"I don't want any space between us not now, and not later... don't worry I love to make love to you as much as you do to me...", she ran her fingers through his hair.
"Great, I can't survive without you, all of you... besides you know how grumpy I become without my daily dose of Gabby Dawson..."
"You don't have to tell me, babe... I'm serious now, it's pretty amazing you have planned something for us, a weekend trip, I can't wait..."
"I'm going to have you all to myself...", they kissed on the lips a few times. "I want you..."
"I love you, I want you...", she murmured against his lips... their kisses went from soft to hungry and noisy... their tongues collided, battled for dominance... "Make me scream me your name...", these were her last words before Matt turned them around, laying on her back, he entered her, a hard trust making her close her eyes tightly... they made love until the early in the morning hours...
