Hanna sat on the couch in Toby's loft biting her nails and bouncing her leg up and down. Aria stood behind the counter clenching her phone. Alison was seated on the stool next to where Emily was pacing back and forth. All four girls jumped when the door to the loft flew open and a frantic Toby burst through the entrance.
"Hanna!" He crossed the threshold and didn't even flinch at the door slamming behind him. "What happened? Where is she?"
Hanna took a step forward, "I don't know," her voice was shaking. "I-I got here and Spencer wasn't. I thought maybe she went downstairs to get a coffee but she wasn't there either. None of the employees saw her leave the building."
"She left her phone," Aria said, holding it up to show.
Toby's eyes burned with such furry none of the girls have ever seen. "Where could she be?"
"You think-" Emily began nervously. "Think it's possible she took off again?"
"No," he quickly dismissed that thought by shaking his head. "She wouldn't. Not while she's still on probation. Not after she promised she wouldn't leave again. Not after we-" He paused not wanting to share the private moment and Spencer had shared just the night before.
"Okay," Emily spoke softly. "So what happened?"
"That's what I'm asking!" He shouted.
Alison stood up next to Emily, "do you think maybe she just went for a walk somewhere. Maybe she went to visit your mom or something."
"We had plans to go hang out today," Hanna said. "She hasn't blown me off once since we started hanging out."
"Hanna's right," Aria said. "Spencer would've called first if something had come up. Even though we haven't known Spencer for that long, I don't think she'd just leave without some sort of goodbye."
Toby ran his hand through his hair, "how long ago did you notice Spencer was gone?"
"Four hours," Hanna said. "It's weird. I spent ten minutes knocking on the door but the outside door was left unlocked."
Toby's eyes went wide, "that outside door was unlocked?"
He walked quickly crossed the room to the door that leads to the outside staircase. It is unlocked which is strange because Toby most always keeps this door locked. He quickly examined the lock but there was no sign of a break in.
"Toby," Hanna walked up behind him. "What are you looking for?"
Toby stood back up to his normal height. He turned slowly to face the group. His eyes glazed over with worry, sorrow, and maybe even a hint of regret.
"Spencer's been kidnapped," he stated.
Night fell and soon Toby's loft was swarming with the Rosewood PD. Toby knows it was probably a risky move to contact the police since Gary, Garrett, or whatever that freaks name has access to the police. It was risky but what else was he supposed to do? If he didn't report that Spencer had been kidnapped, it's possible she would get in trouble for "taking off." The girls stayed with Toby answering any questions to cops have asked them. Caleb and Ezra came by to show their support.
"Are you certain that Spencer was kidnapped?" Detective Holbrook asked.
Toby's eyes narrowed in anger, "Yes! Spencer wouldn't just take off."
"She's done it many times before," Holbrook muttered.
"This time is different," he insisted. "Spencer didn't run away. Before today, Spencer told me all about how her foster brother used to creep her out when she was a child. For the last several years he's been stalking her for some reason. Gary Reynolds was his name. I think Garrett Reynolds may also have something to do with her disappearance."
Holbrook thought to himself for a moment. He then reached for the speaker on his vest and spoke into it, "let's get a background check on a man name Gary Reynolds. Also, find out what connection he may have with Officer Garrett Reynolds."
On the couch in Toby's loft, Hanna, Aria, and Emily sat together with their hand's clasps together. Caleb stood behind Hanna rubbing her shoulders. Ezra stood beside Aria and Alison was sitting on the coffee table in front of Emily. Alison's the only one in the group who hasn't really had a lot of time to get to know Spencer. Sure she's met her once or twice but she didn't really know her that well. Still, Toby was a friend and she wanted to be here to show her support, to Emily too.
"I hate waiting," Aria spoke. "I feel so useless just sitting here and waiting. We should be out there looking for her."
"I don't think there is much we can do," Emily said.
Alison rubbed her hand up Emily's leg, "you should get some sleep. It's late and finding Spencer is probably going to take a while."
Emily stiffed a smile back, taking Alison's hand, "I don't think I could sleep even if I wanted to but if you want to go, you can."
"No," Alison tightened her grip on Emily's hand. "I want to stay."
Toby walked over to the girls, "they're working on building a search party."
"Toby," Caleb gestured between Ezra and himself, "let us help."
"I'll be fine," he said. "I've spent months looking for Spencer. I made the mistake of giving up. I won't make that mistake again. I will crawl to the ends of the Earth to find her if I have to."
"Not by yourself you can't," Caleb said.
"I won't be alone. I've got the entire force to help me."
"Toby," Emily spoke up. "You know Spencer better than they do. You know her tricks, you know the way she thinks, and you have a better idea of the kinds of people she knew. You have a lead that they don't. You should be leading the search for Spencer, not Holbrook."
"Emily's right," Hanna said. "The police force maybe trained to find a missing person and rescue a victim who's been kidnapped but they're not trained in finding someone like Spencer. You are."
Emily stood up, "you need us, Toby. Let us help you."
It felt like she had been tied up in the back of this SUV for days but was really only several hours. By the time she felt the van park in an unknown location, it was dark. She could tell the sun had gone down which meant it was after 9 P.M. Her eyes were swollen from all the crying. Her body shook with fear as she heard the driver's side door open and close. The back door swung open and she flinched as a bright light was shined in her face.
"Time to get out," the person spoke.
Spencer was grabbed roughly by her arm and she was pulled out of the van. She heard the door to the passenger's side open and close. The person who came out of the passenger's side held her other arm as the three of them walked quickly to a side door. Spencer tried to get a look at her surroundings hoping to make some sort of sense of where they are. But it's dark and she can't really see that far off. The door opened with a loud squeak that made her shoulders tense up. Without warning, she was shoved violently through the door. She was pushed so hard that she fell flat on her knees. Before she could even turn around, the door was slammed shut behind her.
What is this? An update? But it's been years? You all probably thought I died or something. But wait...are people even still reading and following this story? Probably not but I am making an effort to get back into writing this story. Why? Because I kind of missed it. The real mystery continues. Where is Spencer? Who has her? Will this story actually get finished? Who knows.
