Someone flipped a switch and the room lit up with fluorescent lights. Spencer squinted as her eyes tried to adjust going from being in a pitch black space to a bright, but a poorly lit room. Once her vision cleared, she looked up and gasped out loud at what she saw. In the corner of the room, there was another girl curled up on a very thin white blanket dressed in something that looked like a hospital gown. Her small frame and dark hair were hard not to recognize.

"Mona," Spencer called out from across the room.

The small girl slowly lifted her head to reveal herself. By the girl's pale face and bloodshot eyes, Spencer could tell she's been here for a while.

"Spencer," her voice cracked when she spoke which pained Spencer. Mona was always the tough one out of the group. To see her broken like this made Spencer feel guilty, Guilty that she hadn't done a better job looking out for her friend.

Spencer struggled to stand and walked over to kneel beside Mona.

"How long have you been here?"

Mona blinked and tried to think. She simply shook her head.

"What's the last thing you remember before ending up in this place?" Spencer asked.

Again, Mona had to think back. What is the last thing she remembers?

"I was leaving the prison after visiting you," she spoke, her voice small and weak. "I can't remember if I made it to my car before I was grabbed from behind."

Spencer's stomach ached, "three months."

Mona looked up, "what?"

"You came to see me about three months ago."

Spencer finally took the time to scope out her surroundings. She can see that they're trapped behind four cement block walls with no windows. There's a door but it's made of metal and would be impossible for her to break down. She's pretty sure the door is an automatic lock too which would be harder for her to pick. The floor is hard, gray, and made of cement. It's chilly in the room which meant air must be getting in here somehow. If cold air is coming in then there has to be a clever way out. It's going to take a while to find it. Then again, Mona's smart, maybe even smarter than Spencer, and she has yet to find a way out. It smelled like old paint and wet cement. Spencer turned her attention back to Mona when she heard her cough loudly.

"This is probably a stupid question but, are you alright?"

"I'm alive," she coughs again. "But no."

Spencer noticed a tiny empty bowl beside Mona and an even smaller empty cup. She's guessing whoever has kept Mona here has fed her but not enough. Mona was already a pretty small girl and right now she looks about half her normal size.

"It's Gary, Spencer," she said. "But he's not working alone. He has a helper."

"Have you seen who's been helping him?"

Mona shook her head and coughed, "I haven't seen the persons face but I think it may be a girl or it could be a boy with a small frame."

Spencer tried to think of every single person she knew who could possibly be on Gary's side. It could be one of their former foster siblings helping him or Jenna. Spencer remembers how Jenna was jealous of Spencer because Gary showed interested in Spencer but not her. Even though Spencer didn't return the same feelings, the woman still hated Spencer.

Flashback

Thirteen-year-old Spencer held onto her suitcase as she stepped through the threshold of her new home. Her foster home. A woman and a man stood at the bottom of the staircase to greet her with smiles. Anyone else would take one look at these people and would think they were great people but Spencer wasn't fooled for a second. Those weren't smiles on their faces, those were grimaces. The social worker who brought Spencer here shook hands with the couple. They exchanged a few words before her social worker left to let Spencer get settled in. They would be back in two weeks for a checkup but Spencer knew no matter how good or bad this place was, she would not be happy here.

Her foster mom showed her to her room that she would have to share with two other girls.

"This is where you sleep," the woman spoke with a bitter taste in her mouth. "Dinner will be at 7. I left a list of Do's and Don'ts for you to follow on the dresser so take a look at that, become familiar with it, and try to stay out of trouble."

The woman left the room to leave Spencer alone to unpack. She doesn't have a lot of stuff with her which is good she guesses since she doesn't have a lot of room to store her stuff. There's a dresser and a closet but most of the closet is already taken. The two bottoms drawers of the dresser were taken over as well which left her with one drawer.

After she finished unpacking her stuff and neatly putting it away in her drawer, Spencer sat on her bed and read for most of the day. Just as her foster mother said, everyone was called down to dinner at 7. It seemed odd to her that they all sat together at the table as if they were a real family but no one really showed interest in wanting to act like a real family. Three younger boys were already seated at the table. It looked like they were eating sloppy joes but Spencer knew it was probably better not to ask. Another younger girl sat alongside the boys. Spencer was given a plate of food and took a seat on the left side of the girl. Just then, the front door open and two more people entered the kitchen. An older looking boy and a girl who looked just a bit younger than Spencer entered the kitchen.

"Gary, Jenna," the father spoke. "You're home just in time. Grab a plate and have a seat."

Gary sat across from Spencer and Jenna took the chair beside him, moving real close to him. Spencer wondered if they were together but didn't want to pry. From the second Gary sat down, Spencer was not comfortable with the way he was looking at her. Jenna caught onto Gary's intense staring and stuck a hand under the table to rest on his thigh clearly trying to warn Spencer to back off. But Spencer wasn't interested at all.

"You didn't tell me we had a new sister with us today," Gary looked at their foster mother.

"The social worker dropped her off this afternoon," the woman said. "Other places were full so we got stuck with her."

Spencer held her eyes from rolling back in her head. Great another person who didn't want her. Why couldn't she just stay with the Cavanaugh family? Marion had called the social worker herself to try to work something out but they would not comply. Instead of staying with a family that actually cared about her, they stuck Spencer here.

"Interesting," Gary eyed her. "What's your name?"

"Spencer," she answered shyly.

"Spencer," he smiled. "Nice to meet you, Spencer, I'm Gary."

"Okay," Spencer shrugged and went back to poking at her salad. She wasn't that hungry but she didn't want to seem rude, so she ate her dinner in silence.

After dinner, the children were all sent to get ready for bed. It was only 8:30 at night. Why should she have to go to bed now? She supposes it was time for the younger kid but she was a teenager now. Didn't that earn her a later bedtime? As she stood in the bathroom brushing her teeth, Gary stepped in and stood behind her. She tried her best to ignore him but he clearly couldn't take a hint.

"How was your first day here?" He asked.

Spencer shrugged but didn't answer. He probably thought she wasn't answering because she had a toothbrush in her mouth but truthfully, she just wanted to be left alone.

"I think you're going to like it here with us," he said.

Spencer spat into the sink then rinsed her mouth. When she turned to leave the bathroom, Gary stepped so she couldn't pass through. She looked at him.

"Excuse me," she said.

"She speaks!" He smirked. "I like the way your voice sounds."

Spencer tried again to leave but again, he stopped her. He reached a hand out the stroke back her brown locks.

"You're a very pretty girl."

Spencer's whole body shuttered, "please move so I can get to my room."

"I'm just trying to get to know you better. After all," he took a step closer causing Spencer to take a step back against the sink. "We are family."

She gulped loudly, "I'm tired. I'd like to go to bed now."

He grazed his hand along her hip, "want me to tuck you in?"

Again, she shuttered. He laughed and stepped back.

"I'm just kidding."

Spencer took the chance to slip past him and walked quickly down the hall to her room. When she stepped in, Jenna was waiting for her by the door. Her arms were crossed over her chest and her emerald green eyes burned at Spencer.

"What do you think you were doing in the bathroom?" Jenna asked.

"Uh," she began helplessly. "Brushing my teeth?" It came out more like a question than an actual statement.

"With Gary," she hissed, taking a step closer to Spencer. "What were you doing with Gary?"

"Nothing," she answered quickly.

Jenna tightened her jaw, "I hope not." Her voice darkened as her eyes borrowed into Spencer's, "Because he is mine. Don't you ever forget that."

Jenna turned to her bed without saying another word. Spencer leaned back against the wall and sighed. She really wished she were staying with Toby's family tonight.

Teams were split up to begin their search for Spencer. Caleb, Alison, Aria, and Ezra went together to search the woods and trails. Toby, Emily, and Hanna searched abandoned houses and buildings in the area. Toby's theory, or what he's hoping, is that Spencer's kidnapper hasn't gotten too far with Spencer. If he's lucky, she's still in Rosewood somewhere. The police have scattered around the state of Pennsylvania and even contacted police in other states to keep an eye out. Airports, train stations, bus stations, and other forms of transportation were all contacted as well. The search for Spencer was on and Toby swore to himself that he would not give up until he found her.

"It's late," Hanna said, from the backseat of Toby's car.

Emily who was in the passenger's seat is in charge of texting and sending updates to the others. Toby was driving 20 miles under the speed limit as he drove around the city. The clock on Toby's dashboard says it's 2:38 A.M. but Toby was not ready to stop.

"We're not stopping until I find Spencer."

"Toby, we're not going to find her in one night," Hanna said.

"Would you shut up Hanna!" Emily shouted. Emily lowed her voice when she talked to Toby, "Have you heard from Holbrook about the background check they did on Garrett?"

"Not yet," Toby answered. "But it has to be soon. I'm sure Garrett has something to do with this. He's probably in hiding somewhere."

"Did Spencer say anything to you last night that seemed out of the ordinary?"

Toby came to a stop at a red light, "what do you mean?"

"Like did she seem different? Was she acting edgy?"

"She didn't seem any different than usual, why?"

Emily shrugged, "I was thinking maybe she had a feeling something would happen to her when it did. Or maybe the person who took her started blackmailing her and forced her to leave the loft?"

Toby step on the gas pedal and the car started moving again, "last night she told me how safe she felt. I don't know if someone started following her again. Spencer told me coming back to Rosewood would be a mistake and I didn't listen to her. I should've taken her to a safer place."

"Stop Toby," Emily said. "This isn't your fault. Spencer knows you did everything you could to protect her."

An idea crossed through Hanna's mind.

"Toby!" She shouted.

"What, Hanna?"

"Spencer's on probation."

Toby rolled his eyes as if it were obvious," yeah?"

"If she's on probation, does that mean the police keep a close track on her whereabouts? Like, her home address?" Hanna asked.

"She's not on house arrest so she doesn't have an ankle monitor on," he said.

"I think I get what Hanna's saying," Emily said. "Toby, you were right about Garrett being involved. He's a cop so he has the same resources as you do which means he was able to look up where Spencer's been staying."

Toby's jaw dropped, "he knew Spencer was staying with me. That's how he found her so fast."

"You know the first time Spencer and I went shopping," Hanna started. "She told me that for a while it seemed like Gary just disappeared. Then when Garrett saw Spencer in prison it all started up again. The blackmail and her friends had to hide for some reason."

"You know before Spencer showed up at that prison, Garrett actually seemed like a decent cop he just had a strict approach," Toby said.

"So," Hanna said. "What if Gary and Garrett are the same people?"

"That would mean…" Emily's brain finally clicked. "Gary has a split personality. Garrett seeing Spencer again is what triggered Gary to come back out."

"Gary probably still thinks he's eighteen and Spencer's the same fourteen-year-old girl," Toby said.

"Where was Spencer living when she was fourteen?" Hanna asked.

And that's when it all clicked for Toby. Gary doesn't have Spencer in some hard to findplace, he has her in their old foster home.

Another update! And so quickly. What will happen next? Who is keeping Spencer captive? Will Toby rescue her in time?
