Chapter Twenty

Demon Fall

Mayor Marco was all jovial and happy when we told him that the Behemoth was taken care of. The man's jovial personality was something to smile about as the man was thanking them over and over again for bringing a peace of mind to the village and taking care of the problem for them.

"As expected of Dragon Knights," he said with a light smile, "I knew that I could always count on you to be able to give us some piece of mind."

Shinji simply smiled lightly at the man.

"It was nothing Marco," he said, "While I am curious as to why a Behemoth ended this far south in the first place, rest assured I will do my best to make sure that I can figure out what caused it."

Marco nodded to him.

"Then, I will leave it to your capable hands Shinji," he said, "You're much more trained to handle that type of stuff than me…Miss Assan, what is this Child of the Demon Tribes doing here anyway, If I may ask?"

Aesyr glanced at him for a moment before turning her attention down toward Kagura. The little girl had stuck to her side like a glue ever since she took her from the forest the previous days. Kaguya was a shy child, Aesyr come to realize during the times she had spent with her and something about her just awoken the maternal instincts that were deep within the young woman, wanting to do everything to protect her.

However, there was still something that she wanted to do.

"C'mon, you can do it," Aesyr spoke softly toward her.

The young child looked at her with a pleading look, but Aesyr simply smiled gently nudging her forward. Kaguya then shuffled forward for a few moments and then gave the Mayor a deep bow.

"I'm sorry for stealing from the village," she said softly.

Marco looked puzzled for a moment, not understanding.

"Huh…what?"

Shinji ran a hand through his blond hair.

"This child was the one who was responsible for your livestock going missing," the young man told him, "Aesyr and I found her in the forest facing down the Behemoth but managed to save her in time."

The Mayor looked at the child, a sudden light appearing upon his face.

"So you're the one responsible for that," he said, "But why is she stealing in the first place? I may not be very knowledgeable about the Tribes but I doubt they are any in this part of Atlasia."

"She is an Exiled," Aesyr said, "I had taken her under my wing and will take responsibility for what she has done."

"Aesyr…," Shinji said looking at her surprised.

The Mayor let out a soft hum.

"Most of my people only managed to be on guard enough because of her thefts," he said, "Before the Behemoth came and I had a feeling that things would have been very different if it had attacked with no warning…with more people dying."

He turned his gaze toward Kaguya.

"I'm not one to forgive thievery," he said, "But I will managed overlook it this once. Miss Assan, you and Shinji have done this village a great service. I will not ask any from you any more but as long as this child will be under your care, I think you will teach her to learn more of what she had done."

"I will," Aesyr answered.

The man smiled.

"Then, I will forgive her," he said, "And accepting the apology."

Kaguya looked at the man for a few moments before returning to my side and burying her face into Aesyr's waist. Aesyr had a light smile upon her lips as she observed the child, a tender look upon her features for a few moments.

Then her gaze returned toward the man across her.

"There is something I would like to ask you Mayor Marco."

The man blinked.

"What is it?"

"The Village of Hyades is going to need your aid in rebuilding," Aesyr continued, "I know from what Shinji had said on the way here that there is a relationship between the two villages, however, when you are done with helping it…will you lend your aid toward Dragmount?"

The man's eyes widened in surprise and even Shinji was shocked at what she was asking.

"You want…my aid to rebuild Dragmount?"

Aesyr nodded.

"Yes," she said, her tone serious, "Shinji and I are planning to rebuild the Dragon Knights and we are going to need a home to go to. That is, if we could count on you and your workers to rebuilt it."

Shinji stayed silent for a moment and was seemingly thinking.

"It has been five years since the Dragon Knights fell from power," Marco spoke out slowly, "And this country had taken a darker turn. Dangerous forces like the Fallen Gods have risen and the Imperium despite all of their power refused to answer our call for aid when we needed it."

The man looked down for a few moments.

"I thought that the Dragon Knights would have disappeared forever after Shinji," he said, "And yet, the two of you seat across me and it was like I was suddenly back to when I was a kid, when I first met a Dragon Knight."

Shinji tilted his head.

"You've met one before?"

"I did," Marco spoke out, "I think his name was Beliel."

Shinji's eyes widened in shock.

"You've met Beliel?"

Aesyr looked from one of them to another, confused.

"Beliel?" she repeated.

Shinji glanced at her, "Beliel Argathan is one of the most powerful Dragon Knight to ever lived. His power today could have easily rivaled any of the Fallen Gods. He could even have defeated Minotaur with ease."

The Mayor smiled.

"Ah yes, that was his full name," he said chuckling, "That man was the Dragon Knights personified into a powerful form and yet, despite all of his power, Beliel was a compassionate man and kind to a fault. It's thanks to him that the Dragon Knights survived the fall of the Salvatore family…because he carried their legacy upon his back."

A sudden serious look appeared upon the Mayor's face.

"If you really are planning to rebuild the Dragon Knights can the two of you carry that legacy upon your shoulders?" he asked, "To be able to serve and protect the civilians of this country? To aid them in their ill and to care for them?"

Aesyr stayed silent for a moment narrowing her eyes lightly. Shinji seems to be hesitant for a moment.

"I don't think anyone could live up to Beliel's legacy," he said after a while, "I know I've tried but, I have my pride as a Dragon Knight. I won't allow the Order that raised me to disappear without trying to bring it back."

The man stayed silent for a moment. Then his eyes turned toward Aesyr.

"And what of you?" he asked.

Aesyr frowned lightly.

"No disrespect to any of you but, I won't try to live up to someone I don't even know," she said simply, "I'm simply going to be me. After all, that's all I can be."

"You're going to be you?"

"Yes," Aesyr said, "I don't need to imitate anyone to be able to lend a helping hand when someone else need it."

Marco couldn't the laugh that escaped his lips at those words.

What a strange girl…, he thought.

He stared at the silver haired girl across him. Aesyr Assan was someone to watch out for, he feels it within his very bones. There was something about the girl that was just…attractive and not in that way either. A magnetism around her that made people feel like she was the center of everything and they were all just drawn toward her because of that magnetism.

Beliel had a similar charisma as well, if I remember correctly.

"You're right," he said out loud, "I may not be as young as I once was but I know conviction when I see it and you have a strong one girl. I will conclude my business with Hyades village and aid them in rebuilding their home and when you are ready to talk again about Dragmount."

Aesyr had a small smile upon her lips and she extended her hand toward him and the Mayor shook it.

"You've got yourself a deal Mayor Marco."

He smiled to himself.

"I look forward to work with you in the future Aesyr."

That had been a few hours ago now.

The duo and the small Demon Tribe girl had already left the village and he was now in his office, musing over the conversation within his mind. Marco couldn't help a light smile working it's way upon his lips at the thought of actually helping in the rebuild of Dragmount itself.

There is a change coming, he thought to himself, A change that is approaching in the horizon and I have a feeling that this girl is going to be at the center of it.

He was rarely wrong in his instincts in the past and Marco had a feeling that he wouldn't be wrong about this one either.

Well Beliel, look like the dragonling are about to take flight…watch over them.

The memory of the man appeared within his mind. It had been a long time since Beliel had passed away and for some reason, to have someone like Aesyr who had the same charisma within her to want to rebuild the Dragon Knights from the ground… People always used to compare Beliel Argathan to the will of the Silver Dragon personified…

Mayor Marco couldn't help the smile growing upon his lips.

Yes…a change is coming to Atlasia…and it seems a Dragon had returned to Atlasia…

Shinji was lost in thought.

He was walking with Aesyr and Kaguya having left Valdes behind some hours ago. The trio walked together upon the empty streets, thought his mind was as far away from it. Just a few hours ago, Aesyr had proposed something that completely took him by surprise.

She wants to rebuild the Dragon Knights?

It was something that Shinji himself had tried two years after the Dragon Knight fell and the sting of that failure is the reason why he was known as the 'Last Dragon Knight' a moniker that he earned because he failed.

He looked toward the young woman in front of him that was walking with Kaguya holding hands with her. It pulled at him to see just how close Kaguya had gotten to Aesyr in the two days since she had extended a hand toward the child. He even found Kaguya sleeping with Aesyr within her room. He had met Exiled Demons before, and they were always kept to themselves and even some of them were hostile toward other people…

And yet, why would a child be Exiled?

Sure, Kaguya was a fearless child, he noticed as she had stood up to the Behemoth and roared at it when most would have turn tail and run…

"Shinji, are you okay?"

He snapped out of his musing finding Aesyr looking back at him, curiosity upon her features.

"Did you say something?" he asked her.

"No, it's just…you've been kind of quiet ever since we left Valdes and I was thinking that something was wrong," she said.

Shinji shook his head.

"No…nothing's wrong," he told her, "I'm just…"

Aesyr had stopped walking and fully faced him. There was a look within her blue eyes as she observed him for a few moments, a searching look.

"Is it about what I said earlier?" she asked him, "About rebuilding the Dragon Knights?"

Shinji looked at her for a moment, wondering for a few moments if he should tell her about it. The reason why he was known as the Last Dragon Knight. He knew that once Aesyr brought up her idea to the others, they would probably tell her the story of what had happened in the past.

"Are you really planning to do it?" he asked her after a long while, "To rebuilt the Creed?"

Aesyr tilted her head in confusion.

"I thought you'd be on board with it," she told him.

Shinji stayed silent. If it was before…he would have been on board with her plan but…

"I…I tried to do it before," he found himself saying, "Rebuilt the Dragon Knights."

Aesyr was surprised.

"You did?"

Shinji nodded, suddenly feeling the weight of his failure pressing upon him.

"Yes…," he said, "Its one of the reasons why I am called the Last Dragon Knight…,"

Aesyr suddenly seems to go still, her eyes widening lightly before her attention was suddenly fixed skyward. Shinji was confused as to what was happening but then something suddenly crash landed behind them, causing an explosion to take place within the road. He instinctively turned to face it, his hand going for his sword at his waist. Aesyr stood in front of Kaguya who was now almost hiding behind the silver haired young woman.

"What the hell was that?" he said shocked.

"It took me quite a while to find you….Aesyr Assan," a voice spoke out from the smoke.

Shinji frowned as the dust was dissipating and then when he could see who it was that crashed in front of them, his eyes went wide with shock. He couldn't believe who it was that stood across them.

"You know who I am," Aesyr said, narrowing her eyes, "Who the hell are you?"

"S…She is…a Fallen God," Shinji said, not keeping the fear from his voice.

The person across them was a woman. She had long braided black hair falling upon her back. Her skin was surprisingly blue as her eyes were completely back save for the ring of red that made her pupils. She has sharp teeth similar to a shark which were twisted into a cruel smirk, one of her pointed ears holding a silver earing. Her top was that of a corset which barely hide her generous breasts and it barely hid her toned stomach. She wore baggy pants upon her legs which were held up with a belt with the symbol of the Sun upon it almost like it was made out of gold and upon her feet were two boots which had a slight elevated heel upon them.

Aesyr glanced at Shinji.

"A Fallen God?" she repeated.

The woman raised her hand as a swirling pinkish red power danced within her palm.

"That's right," she said, "I am called Azura and I am very much interested in you…Dragon Child."
