Chapter 4
He landed safely on a tree's branch as a satisfied smile was pinned on his lips. A light chuckle escaped from them before he emitted a hiss of pain. Tsuna leaned on the trunk as he clutched his chest, he inhaled deeply to calm his nerves, "Hah, I really do have to take a break." he mumbled to himself absent-mindedly.
Relaxing his muscles, the teen gazed upward and closed his eyes. A light breeze brushed his face soothingly and slowly made his eyelids feel heavier. He then let himself be guided by the calm and peaceful surrounding to enter the world of unconsciousness.
[000]
Light chirping-sounds entered his hearing sense and little by little consciousness slipped-in. A sleepy moan escaped his lips before he struggled to find a comfortable position. Realization of the fact that he had been sleeping on the tree's branch forcefully entered his mind as he immediately awakened and successfully saved his ass from kissing the ground below.
"That... was close." He muttered in relief. Rearranging his position; he looked up at the sky. Seeing the sun rose high and lightened up brightly, Tsuna guessed that it was around midday. Well, he didn't wear any watch or brought a phone. Who needed those anyway?
Allowing a small yawn to escape, he rubbed his eyes to chase away the drowsiness. That was when he finally registered the slightest weight on top of his head.
Keeping his composure, Tsuna slowly brought his hand up to check what it was. The thing he found was something really small... soft… and fluffy.
'Huh?'
Gently wrapping the thing with both of his hands, Tsuna brought it down to his chest level and immediately faced with a bird.
A freaking small and round yellow bird.
His brown eyes blinked. 'What the hell was it doing on top of my head?'
"You..." Tsuna began, unconsciously, "What were you doing up there?" He asked the bird. It just stared at him innocently as it turned its small head sideways in, what Tsuna seen, confusing manner.
Really….
Since when was the boy sensitive to birds' feelings? Furthermore, did he seriously just ask a bird?
Understanding (or not) the question, the bird flew up before settling down comfortably on top of the brunet's head or specifically, his defying gravity hair again.
Well, it seemed that the bird has found the perfect nest for itself.
As on cue, the bird chirped in bliss.
What. The. Hell?
"Get the hell off my head," Tsuna quietly said as he tried to bat it away. But it seemed that the bird was too content that it ignored the brunet.
Tsuna tsk-ed as he tried to push it away. By moving too much, Tsuna didn't register a crack sound coming from the branch and that was when he fell flat on the ground not so elegantly. Fortunately, there were bushes below. They definitely helped him not to have to bear too much pain. But even so, the dizziness made the world around him spin and he did not enjoy it one bit. He picked himself from the bushes, eyebrows knitted in annoyance as he stared at the bird that was flying happily while chirping which suspiciously sounded like it was mocking him.
Tsuna gritted in annoyance as he tried to catch the bird with no avail. The bird seemed to be having fun while Tsuna himself was definitely not. He was too busy for not noticing another presence that came closer, then a light giggle caught his attention.
The brunet stopped then looked back. There stood a girl with shoulder-length light brown hair who giggled quietly but stopped when the girl felt the other's stare.
"Oh...um...I'm sorry for bothering you," she said as she smiled apologetic. With the way the girl politely spoke, Tsuna felt no harm coming from her. It was safe, though he did not say anything. The silent treatment made the girl continue, "You looked like you were having fun!" The girl said before smiling cheerfully.
The boy huffed, "I was not." came a short reply from him. The girl just smiled before she asked, "I presume that you are not a student here?" She said as she walked closer.
Being shaded by the tree and the bushes made it hard to take a full view of the other so when the girl stood in the perfect distance, she was awed.
Sharp yet big clear hazel eyes stared lazily at her. His heart-shaped head complementing his beautiful features as the knitted eyebrow made his appearance like an adorable bad-boy. She also noted that his build was looking rather small and delicate. The soft-looking defying gravity brunet hair just perfectly framed his face. The girl blushed at the fair and flawless skin the other had before noticing a few scratches on it. She quickly pulled out some bandages and kindly presented it. "Here, you should treat your injuries."
Tsuna, seeing no harm, accepted it before asking, "Are you always carrying these?"
The girl smiled sheepishly. "Oh well, since my brother is in a boxing club, I always bring them with me as a first aid."
Tsuna glanced at her, "Hmm." He hummed.
A soothing breeze came as the two were surrounded by a somewhat peaceful silence. Tsuna was about to say something when another voice interrupted.
"KYOKO-CHAN!"
The girl perked up before turning back to answer. "I'm right here Haru-chan!" She then turned again, "I am sorry about-Eh?"
Kyoko stared at nothing but the field, tree, and bushes. That boy, he was nowhere to be seen.
"Kyoko-chan, please don't leave Haru behind like that! Geez, what is Kyoko-chan doing here anyway?" The other girl, Haru, asked as soon as she was by the girl's side.
"There was this boy I talked to but now he is gone," Kyoko said and turned to face Haru. "Sorry for leaving you like that." She smiled in apologize.
Haru smiled. "It's okay, but don't do that again without telling Haru, okay?"
Kyoko smiled cheerfully. "Okay!" The two began to walk away. "Let's eat the bentos before the bell rings!" Haru said as she picked up pace. Kyoko, followed Haru from behind just agreed inwardly as her eyes trailed at the back. "I wish I could meet him again," she mumbled before catching up with the other.
[000]
Hazel eyes stared downward from the rooftop. Well, he didn't mind talking to that girl but another one came so that was his cue to leave. After all, he didn't want to spend more time in this place.
Tsuna walked around a bit before jumping down to the ground. He landed safely before his eyes suddenly widened and without taking a breath, he forcefully brought himself to hide in the nearest bushes. Again.
He felt an unpleasant presence that was coming exactly from his back. He then tried to conceal his own presence as he looking for the cause. But it seemed that it was all gone to waste as soon as he heard a song which was awfully loud to him, and suspiciously coming from the top of his head.
"Mi~dori no tanabiku...Namimori no~"
Tsuna blinked. All the previous alerts went down to the minimum level.
"What the-?" The brunet lost all his composure as he startled and missed the light steps that crept closer to him. The bird, which sensed the familiar presence, immediately flew off from the brunet's head.
The flapping sounds caught Tsuna's attention as he watched the yellow bird that was flying toward the...
Tsuna's eyes widened. 'Shit!' He cursed inwardly while trying to hide once more, though he himself knew that it was too late; there is no harm in trying, right? Maybe he was lucky enough for not being seen.
He seriously prayed for that to happen. He was tired, dammit!
Regardless, his intuition flared up, somewhat telling him that he needed to be extra careful to handle this matter. Trusting his intuition more than anything, he composed himself. A blank expression settled firmly on his face as he observed the uninvited guest.
There, in front of him, stood someone who looked around his age, maybe 2 or 3 years older, a scary expression adorned his face which strangely suited him. The straight posture and the composed demeanor told him that this guy wasn't someone to be taken lightly. The arm badge that had "disciplinary committee" written in kanji hung loosely on the arm of the blazer he wore and lastly, that yellow bird, which perched on his shoulder, strangely fitted to the entire image. How was that even possible?
Okay, wrong point, Tsuna, wrong point.
That was when black steel orbs stared straight at his hazel ones. Tsuna was almost taken aback but was able to hold himself just in time. Seeing that his effort to hide was now useless, taking a breath, he stood up, revealing himself to the guest.
[000]
Black steel eyes stared in a calculating way at the stranger that stood not too far from him. Unfamiliar face meant that he wasn't a student in this school. Then, it only meant one thing.
"A trespassing herbivore, I see." He said in impassive tone.
The brunet stared blankly at the other. 'Trespassing? No, wait. Herbivore? Seriously? Another strange guy, well done Tsuna. You met another weird person. Just great. What a memorable journey,' he commented sarcastically to himself.
While the brunet was busy on his own, the other party silently observed him. There was something….off about the kid. Even though he was small-built, his eyes showed determination…and something else that he couldn't put a finger on. Not to mention he even pulled a perfect poker face.
The two immediately engaged in a staring contest. Slowly, Tsuna walked carefully toward a tree that stood not too far from his place and of course, the other mirroring his action as well.
Well, having something that secured your back was rather reassuring.
Black eyes locked on the impassive hazel ones. The fact that he couldn't read the other irked him, yet….
.
.
.
He felt a sudden excitement. Oh right, this feeling….when was the last time he felt this?
"Wao."
He noted that the simple sound was enough to catch the other's full attention. Smirking, he then raised his tonfas up.
"For breaking into the school grounds, I shall bite you to death." Declaring his famous catchphrase, he aimed forward faster than any human should be.
[000]
Tsuna stared at the black haired teen—no, not at the person, but the things in his hands actually. 'Are...are those tonfas? Yeah...those were definitely tonfas. Huh, so teenagers these days carried such things to school? Or maybe... those are just... toys?'
The last thought was forcefully cut down as the other spoke, "For breaking into the school ground, I shall bite you to death." Tsuna's eyes widened slightly, 'Bite he said?'
Not paying attention, Tsuna almost got hit by the other who suddenly struck forward faster than he expected.
The brunet somehow managed to move aside in a split of second. As a result, the previous tree was caught in the attack as the tonfas were impaled in the trunk. Tsuna's eyes widened, seeing the damage and gulped, "Shoot. Those are the real fucking thing." He whispered under his breath.
'This guy...' Tsuna repositioned himself. Eyes sharpened as he concentrated on the other's movements. Eventually, a slight smirk curved on his lips, "Dang, this is gonna be fun." He muttered before closing his eyes.
Black steel ones watched in mild amusement as the air around the brunet began to swift. Being able to avoid the attack in that split time. "Heh," he mumbled in excitement as his lips turned up a bit. Maybe...
This herbivore would worth his time.
Right on that, the other's eyes snapped open before he suddenly appeared behind him. The steel black eyes widened slightly and then there was a loud crash.
Tsuna landed on the ground, the face devoid of any emotion as he kept his gaze on the person who still stood unscathed. He noticed the other's eyes gleamed in excitement. Tsuna then realized one thing.
This person loved fighting.
And he stupidly triggered him.
The other watched in amusement as the brunet frowned. The latter then repositioned himself by straightening his posture before brushing off some splinters that was caught in his hair.
He was excited, even if he did not show it.
After all, Hibari Kyoya loved biting herbivores to death.
