A/N: Hah! And they said I wouldn't post twice in the same week! Yeah, chapter 1 you guys! I'm very excited about it and I plan to keep a schedule of posting every Friday. Whether that'll be one or more chapters, we'll see. It depends on how well my inspiration works with my drive to write. Enjoy!

Chapter 1

I honestly hadn't expected to wake up again after I fell face first into the snow, but here I am! The field hadn't changed much since I last saw it. It mostly just had more snow. I reached for my scythe but only grasped empty air. Well, that's wonderful. I guess I'll have to get a new one.

Standing up, I struggled to shake free of the snow that had been frozen to my cloak. How long have I been here? Nevermind, too many questions and no answers. I suppose there's only one thing for me to do, pick a direction and go.

I chose to head east and see if I could find some form of civilization. As I began my trek through the dead trees, I heard the snapping of several branches. I paused as the snapping stopped and tilted my head to try and listen for more.

My body was flung to the side as a larger than average Beowolf collided with me. I tumbled through the trees and the snow parted in waves when I finally came to a stop. I looked up at the upside down Beowolf stalking its way towards me. While that was fun, I wasn't looking forward to being an overgrown chew toy.

I hopped back on my feet and unsheathed my knife from its holster in a reverse grip. The Beowolf stopped and stared at the 8 inch serrated steel blade that glinted in the sunlight. It wasn't long before the Beowolf threw caution to the wind and charged me, a fatal mistake. I waited until the Grimm was almost on top of me before sidestepping and plunging my knife into the base of the Grimm's skull.

Its body collapsed to the ground with a muted thunk. My knife slid from its neck with little resistance, and as I turned to leave, I glanced back at the Grimm's bone covered face. I could fashion a mask from the plating. I had the feeling that I would need it. Why would I need a mask? I haven't done anything wrong have I? More questions and still no answers.

Deciding to just go with it, I placed my knife where bone met skin and worked the bone from its face. Thankfully, the grimm was still an adolescent, so I didn't have to work very hard to carve the mask down to size. I also managed to make small hooks on it so that it would stay around my ears and on my face.

With that taken care of, I continued my trek to the east. Of course, I didn't get far as yet another strange sound interrupted my walk. It was a low humming sound and it was far off when I first heard it. However, as it got louder I began looking around and panicked when the sound was directly over me.

Snapping my head up I saw the largest machine that I'd ever seen. It was a light gray with two massive wings jutting out from either side. What is that!? It's even going in the direction I'm going! It might be some sort of transport, but I don't know who would be advanced enough to have such machinery. Vague flashes of memories flitted through my mind and I knew that none of the kingdoms could possibly have done it. Unless...I was unconscious longer than I thought I was. I shook my head and set off for wherever that machine was headed.

Nothing came into view until the sun was overhead. It was a large building with many large windows showing the inside. I braced myself and headed inside, and I immediately was bombarded by the massive crowd of people inside. I have never seen so many people in one place. It was overwhelming to say the least. My breathing hitched and my heart began to pound in my chest. Just as my ears began ringing and my vision started to blur, I felt a small tug at the bottom of my cloak.

I looked down to see a young girl with silver eyes staring up at me. She looked concerned and it took me a second to realize that she had said something.

"Hmm?"

"I said are you okay. You looked uncomfortable," she said with a small pout. "Mommy says I should help people who look like they need a friend."

Her mother? Is her mother here or someone from her family? I hope she isn't by herself.

"While it's good that you wanted to help, I think your mom was talking about people closer to your age. Not everyone has good intentions," I advised while squatting down so she could look at me.

"Maybe, but I got a good feeling about you!" She grinned and began pulling on my cloak. "Come on, you can meet my mom!"

She led me through the sea of people until we eventually came upon a woman who looked like an older version of the girl grasping my cloak. The woman looked up at us and sighed in relief as she saw the young girl with me.

"Ruby, what have I told you about running off," she scolded.

"Not to go where you can't see me. I couldn't help it though! There are so many tall people here and my friend needed my help!" Ruby motioned up at me as she explained the situation. I gave a small wave and an awkward smile when her mother looked at me. She scrutinized me before shaking her head, as if this isn't the first time this has happened.

"Thank you for helping my daughter find me. If you don't mind me asking, what are you doing here? Seems like this is your first time being at an airship dock."

"I…got lost in the woods. Couldn't remember my way back," I rubbed the back of my head and chuckled slightly. It would be kind of hard to explain that I can't remember much other than my name and how to swing a scythe around. Also the fact that I had been laying down in the snow for who knows how long. I'm kind of surprised that I didn't have frostbite.

Ruby's mother interrupted my thoughts, "I see, at least you found your way here. Where are you headed to?"

I froze. I had no clue what any of the cities or towns were called.

"I'm just wandering, I suppose. I don't particularly have a place to be," I mumbled.

"Fair enough, Remnant is a fascinating place to explore. I'm sure you must have plenty of interesting stories to tell."

"Actually, I just started traveling."

"Oh, really, I bet Tai and I could give you some pointers next time you head out. For the time being you can stay with us," she placed a hand on Ruby's back. "Oh! By the way, my name is Summer Rose. What's yours?"

"Alexis Durnstromn. It's a pleasure to meet you," we shook hands with a laugh.

After our little chat we boarded an airship to Patch, a little island off the coast of Vale. At least now I knew what that thing that flew over me was. It seemed so much bigger on the outside. But, I finally have someone to answer my questions. Hopefully I'll finally start getting some answers.

A/N: This concludes chapter 1. I'm glad that I'm able to experiment with this form of writing. Of course, that does mean that some mistakes might be made. With that said feel free to leave a review and I'll see you all next week!
