A/N: Chapter 2, yay! This week has been hectic, but I'm glad I was able to get this chapter written. Hope you guys enjoy and feel free to leave a review!

Chapter 2

My first impression of Patch was...quaint. The main town was full of small houses and shops, and the woods surrounding the area was bustling with life. Summer had told me that though the woods did have Grimm, they were contained enough to not cause problems. She had also told me that Signal Academy was on this island, and that Ruby's sister, Yang, would be attending when she turned 12.

We walked along the main path until we came upon a dirt path leading into the woods. As we walked down this path, Ruby told me all about life on Patch and her family.

"Yang is my big sister. She's so cool and she's going to be the best huntress ever!" she cheered as her mother carried her.

"I thought I was the best huntress ever," her mother teased.

"You are!" We laughed when Ruby pouted.

Soon enough we reached a two story log cabin with a red metal roof. Summer put Ruby on the ground and as soon as Ruby was let go, she sprinted to the house. Summer sighed and turned to me.

"I swear she's getting faster everyday," Summer shrugged.

"She does have a lot of energy," patting her on the back I headed inside.

The inside of the house was just as nice as it was outside. The furniture was well worn from years of use, but it had a homelyness to it that permeated every corner of the house. I heard Ruby talking to someone to my right. Following the voice, I found the kitchen where Ruby was sitting on her knees in a chair. In front of her was who I assumed was her father.

Fighter was the first word that came to my mind when I saw him. He was well built and obviously had seen a few fights from the scars that decorated his arms. He stood at the stove making dinner. He seemed incredibly happy to be talking to Ruby, and I smiled at the good relationship they had. Watching them interact, I felt a twinge of pain in my head. A memory of a man with black hair and and a gentle smile filled my head. Was that my father? Did we interact the same way Ruby and her Father do?

The lack of answers is starting to get to me. Worst thing that I realized is that I'm going to have to explain who I am, or what I remember exactly, to Summer and her family if I want their help.

'Ughhhhhhhh'

Ruby saw me from the corner of her eye and pointed to me.

"Daddy, this is who I was telling you about!"

He turned to look at me. Smiling and giving a small wave with his spatula, he greeted me.

"Hello there! Ruby's been telling me about you. Alexis right?"

"Yes, it's nice to meet you."

"I don't think I've told you my name. Tai Yang Xiao-Long, hunter extraordinaire," he finished his introduction with a playful salute.

He continued with his cooking as I walked across the kitchen to sit with Ruby at the table. She smiled at me and showed me the coloring pages I hadn't noticed in front of her. She told me that Yang went out with their Uncle Qrow and should be back soon. She was very excited to introduce me to them and thought that we would get along great.

Summer walked in soon after Ruby handed me a coloring sheet to do along with her. Summer walked over to Tai and gave him a small kiss on the cheek before coming to sit at the table as well.

"I see you two are having fun," she smiled while looking at the colored pages.

Ruby looked up at her mother before quickly handing her a coloring and some crayons. Summer laughed at Ruby's insistence of getting everyone she could involved with coloring. We sat there for a time in silence. It was...peaceful. I felt like I hadn't experienced this sort of peace for a long time.

We colored while Tai cooked for a while before we heard the front door of the house opened. I didn't have to wait very long to see who it was before a yellow blur slammed into Tai's leg.

"Oomph! Hey there kiddo. Did you enjoy your little trip with Uncle Qrow?" Tai said looking at the little, blonde girl attached to his leg.

"Yeah, we had a lot of fun!"

Ruby got down from her chair before running over to her sister.

"Yang! Come see who I met today," Ruby took Yang's arm and pulled her over to the table.

I stood up as Ruby and her sister approached. Yang paused when she realized how much I towered over her.

"Wow...you're really tall," she said, awe in her eyes.

"Um, yes. I suppose I am." I sat down as the two kids claimed their seats at the table.

Another man walked through the doorway with several bags of groceries. He grunted as he set the bags down on the counter and turned to us.

"Well, I didn't know we would be having a guest tonight."

"We met at the airport. She didn't have anywhere to go so we offered her a ride with us," Summer said looking up from her finished coloring.

"Huh. So, you got a name, stranger?"

"Alexis Durnstromn. I'm guessing that you're Qrow?" I said.

"Yeah I am. My nieces been talking about me? I'm not surprised, I'm the greatest uncle after all," he grinned before coming to sit with us.

Tai snorted before calling to us, "Dinner is ready when you guys are."

We all got our food and ate. It was nice, sitting there talking to Ruby and her family. Hopefully this will last a bit longer. They're a tight knit family and they had no trouble including me, a stranger, into their activities. I think they'll be able to help me figure out what's going on, and I believe that they won't care one way or the other about my strange circumstances.

A/N: So looks like Alexis is fitting in well with the Rose/Xiao-Long family. Hope you guys liked it and I'll see all of you next week!
