A/N: Hey everyone! New chapter is up, and I tweaked the last chapter a little bit thanks to Cyan-Snake pointing out a plot hole that I missed. Thanks for that! Hope you all enjoy!

Chapter 5

The next few weeks weren't too eventful. Ruby and Yang continued going to school, Qrow and Tai worked at Signal, and Summer occasionally went out for Hunting missions. I, meanwhile, worked on finding my semblance. Unfortunately, I was no closer to discovering it than I was at the start. I wasn't discouraged though. I knew that I would find it eventually and then I could perhaps work towards getting a Hunter's license.

I had read that if hunters could not attend a traditional Huntsman academy, then they had annual hunters tests. Although, I didn't really think that was viable for me. Another option was to be endorsed by a Hunter and be trained as an apprentice. The only downside to an apprenticeship is that I would still have to attend a Huntsman academy to be taught teamwork with a senior team since I would mostly be working with the Hunter endorsing me.

However, I had no idea if Huntsman academies had an age limit. In fact, I don't even know how old I am in the first place. Not knowing your past kind of makes things difficult. I suppose I would ask either Summer or Tai for their assistance. After all, the best people to ask about becoming a Hunter are two of the best Hunters I know. I will admit, I'm not entirely sure why I want to be a hunter. I have this feeling that it'll help with my memories, so I suppose that's reason enough.

Summer was away for a mission, but she would be coming back today. At Signal, Tai was on a week-long training trip with his students and they had left yesterday. So, asking Summer was the earliest I could get answers about starting Hunter training.

There wasn't really that much that I could do waiting for Summer, so I decided to continue meditating. It had become routine for me to do so after having my aura unlocked. Meditation allowed me to pass time quickly and become more accustomed to having Aura. I still haven't found my semblance, but I feel like I'm getting close. Each time I have a vision of chasing the wolf I'm faster than the time before. Now I'm on the wolf's heels before it can disappear. The wolf seems to enjoy playing and I wasn't going to stop it.

I opened my eyes when the front door opened and Summer walked through the living room and into the kitchen. Now was my chance.

"Hey, Summer, can I ask you a few questions?"

"Of course, what is it?"

"A few weeks ago when I started meditating, you mentioned Aura wisps. What are those exactly?" I leaned back against the kitchen counter.

"Hmm, that's a good question. There hasn't been too much research on it, but it's speculated that when hunters with newly awakened aura use said aura, their bodies leak the excess so that the aura doesn't overload their system."

"Wait...overload?"

"Yes, one of the dangers of Aura is that when it's unlocked it's incredibly potent. That's why children usually have their aura unlocked early on. They don't have as much you see." She nodded her head and pulled out ingredients for a sandwich.

"So when a teenager or adult unlocks their aura, they have to be careful with it? What happens when Aura overloads?"

"I've only seen Aura overload once since it's incredibly rare, but it wasn't pretty. In simplest terms, his body collapsed from the inside out." She bit into her sandwich.

"That…sounds painful," I grimaced, "so I can assume that meditation helps with preventing that? I've only had those aura wisps appear the first time I meditated."

"Yep! Meditation spreads aura evenly around your body and expends it in small amounts. That's why it's important for people with large amounts of aura to meditate regularly."

"Fascinating, does the body become accustomed to the amount of aura one has, or is it a fixed amount?" I asked

"The body can be accustomed to aura to a certain extent. Think of it as water in a balloon. The balloon can only hold so much water before it bursts. You need to release that water to keep the balloon from popping."

I nodded, "Makes sense. Does that mean hunters learn to control their aura early on?"

"Exactly! Schools like Signal teach the basics of aura manipulation, combat, and tactics. Then, when the students graduate, they go to academies such as Beacon to refine those skills." Summer grinned placing her plate in the sink.

"Yeah, that's what I had read on the internet. Which leads me to my next question. I had read about apprentices and the academies. The thing is, I don't know if I should take up an apprenticeship or just attend an academy. What do you suggest?"

"Hmm, I would say attend an academy, but not being able to use your semblance would make it incredibly difficult. With an apprenticeship, you could get help with other Hunter skills while you wait for your semblance," Summer said, turning to face me.

"Okaaay, thank you. I think that would be the smart thing for me to do. I'm hesitant to ask this but, would you be willing to make me your apprentice?" I nervously scratched the back of my head.

"Of course! It's a huge honor among Huntsmen to take apprentices. It's sort of like a rite of passage for experienced Hunters. I'm honored that you would ask," Summer beamed at me.

I returned it with a large grin and we made plans to start my training. Since Summer would still need to complete her Huntress duties, it would take a longer period of time to complete my apprenticeship. Not to mention that I need an education similar to a civilian school. We roughly planned out a seven year apprenticeship.

Summer left to pick Ruby and Yang up from school once we finished talking. With thoughts of being a Hunter swimming through my head, I began planning one of the most defining parts of my training, forging my own weapon.
