Freed agrees to check the translation, but unintentionally activates the runes, causing himself and Lucy to become physically drawn to each other. REALLY drawn to each other. Natsu tries to keep it together while keeping them apart.

Gajeel has been taken down by Bradman, the Alvarez Empire has invaded Fiore, Irenes spell Universe One has torn their world apart and shuffled it so they barely recognize it. The chance of Gajeels survival spurs Lucy and her friends to take a chance, and Lucy has to sacrifice a good mans freedom and her own morals in exchange for that.

And there's always the promise he made to Zeref about fighting a death god.
