A/N* Blood/violence warning
As soon as her feet had touched the roof of the skyscraper, Eagle's wings folded and melted back into the tan backpack. Icily, she watched the Soldier exited the helicopter, opening the duffle bag and pulling out a dark, midnight blue dress and a tuxedo. Her eyebrows rose slightly in confusion but the programming took away the emotion, leaving behind only blank eyes as the Soldat spoke
"Das Kleid sollte Ihren Kampfanzug bedecken, den Rucksack immer bei sich haben."
[The dress should cover your combat suit and always have your backpack with you.] She nodded as she slipped on the dress, noticing how it perfectly fit over her combat suit. The Soldat, who was now in the tux, turned and walked to the side of the building. Eagle followed, observing as he nimbly scaled the side until his feet were on the ground of the alleyway. She did the same and they found themselves near the front door of an immaculate house with curving steps and gilded doors. They made it in without a problem and dispersed into the crowd. Eagle's mind wandered as she took a glass of wine from a tray, sniffing it for poisons before sipping a small amount. Mentally, she found a loose string and pulled on it only for the string to vanish. It left behind it a pounding headache as the feeling of being watched prickled down her spine and Eagle turned, finding Soldat's glacier-like eyes watching her...and for a moment something flashed in them..something warm. But as soon as it appeared it disappeared and the Soldiers remembered their mission...their purpose. Minutes later an older man in a dark green and black suit entered the room, Eagle drifted to the edge of the room where Soldat stood rigidly, eyes scanning the large crowd of boisterous people. He muttered under his breath just loud enough for her to hear.
"Ziel hat das Gebäude betreten. Trail aber nicht engagieren. Keine Zeugen." [Target has entered the building. Trail but do not engage. No witnesses.]
She nodded before silently diving back into the crowd, a fake smile plastered on her face until the target was just in front of her. His voice boomed through the room as he spoke and the immaculately dressed women around him laughed obnoxiously at what he said. Something brushed against her back and Eagle stiffened, whirling around only to realize that it had been an accident, when she turned back around the man was gone. Eagle growled under her breath, scanning the crowd until her gaze rested on Soldat, who was disappearing down a hallway, the door was just about to close when she took hold of the handle and slipped into the hallway after him, her long strides letting her catch up easily.
"Ich drehte mich um, als ich wieder nach dem Ziel suchte, war er weg." [I turned for a minute, when I looked for the target again he was gone.]
"Nimm niemals deine Augen auf das Ziel" [Never take your eyes off the target]
He paused before continuing "zieh deinen Anzug an" [Put on your suit].
Eagle tapped the straps of her bag, an eerie calm settling over her as the wings unfolded and she slid on a cowl over her face. Soldat came to a stop, listening for a moment before nodding at a mahogany door to their right. Both slipped soundlessly into the room. The target was searching through a desk fervently, his back to them, oblivious to both. Eagle positioned herself in front of the door, hands fingering the knives and throwing stars hidden under her dress. Soldat moved to the man's side and she watched as the man drew in a sharp breath, stiffening and slowly turning around. His eyes darted around the room, looking for an escape as he took his situation in.
"I am innocent" he stuttered as Soldat drew something out of his pocket, the man expected a gun and flinched back, only for Soldat to wordlessly hold out a vial of green liquid.
"Please" the man squeaked as his eyes turned towards the Eagle, they widened further when her wings fluttered and extended sightly, sending a nearby vase crashing to the ground. It shattered and with every broken piece, something cracked in her mind.
"Drink it or others will die." The words tore themselves out of her mouth as Eagles mind waged war with the fog. Tears had started to roll down the man's face and anguish flared in his eyes as he tore the vial from Soldats hands and uncorked it, sniffing the liquid. His eyes found hers again and she blankly stared at him as the man declared.
" "You will be found, go to your Commander and tell him that Hydra will be burnt to the ground sooner or later. Your crimes will be brought to light and you will live with the guilt for the rest of your life." With that, he tipped the liquid back and before The Eagle's eyes he paled and bloody foam started to flow from his lips and nose before falling over limply. The cracks in her mind crumbled and memories slipped through them. A hand shot to her mouth as a barely concealed sob slipped out, for just a moment grief, pain, and anger overwhelmed her...for just a moment she was Aubrey again…..human again.
"You will never forget us in here" the voice sounded in her mind and Eagle fell limply back against the wall, gasping for breath as she frantically tried to remember who the voice was...who she was. But the fog came back, stronger than before, it sucked the memories back up, making them lifeless and dull as they were locked behind the wall again. Eagle's face became stony and lifeless as the tears dried. She looked to Soldat, his eyes had once again lost their lifeless hue and he murmured
"It gets easier" before his face closed and he edged around her, leaving the room. The commlink in her ear chirped and the gruff voice of her handler commanded
"Statusbericht Adler" [Status report, Eagle] The fog thickened once more as the answer flew out
""Target is dead, evidence will be removed, preparing for extraction."
"Gute Arbeit" [Good work] the commlink went silent as she picked up the vial, corking it and sliding it into a pocket. From there it was a blur back to base, she sat numbly in the helicopter the whole way back and once they landed Hydra guards filed out, surrounding them both. The two were directed through the dark hallways to the room with the chair. Eagle stopped in her tracks as she vaguely remembered the chair but something cold and hard pushed into her back, directing her off to the side. Silently, Eagle watched as Soldat was pushed into the chair, one of the physicians coming closer and taking his vitals before backing away and letting Soldats handler come forward to ask questions about the mission.
After he had finished Eagle watched as Soldat was forced into the chair. Immediately it started humming and a bit was shoved into his mouth. She felt herself take a step back but was restrained by the guards around her "Lass mich Gehen'' [Get your hands off me] she growled, almost hissed. But her eyes were drawn to the Soldier, the metal plates went down and as the chair leaned back he started to scream. The Eagle's hands went to her ears, the sound pounding through her head. Someone was talking to her but she couldn't concentrate, a moment later she felt a pain in her arm and everything went dark.
