Chapter 13
# $%^#
Kira had been arrested not long after the sheriff called the crime in. Melissa had Isaac and Laci go back up to her room after they were questioned. The next morning, Scott went to go check up on her while the others stuck around the house. Laci had learned from Malia that things hadn't gone their way at the school. Not only was Hayden taken, but Liam was too.
Laci and Isaac sat together, whispering with their heads together. Stiles paced the room while Malia sat in the chair watching him. Lydia and Mason were upstairs with another chimera named Corey. They were having him read the book to see what he could remember. Theo leaned against the wall, glaring at the newest addition to their group.
No one seemed to be questioning Isaac's sudden return and the convenient timing of it, whereas they still didn't trust him enough. It wasn't fair. Just because he and Laci were a thing didn't mean he was innocent.
Isaac seemed to feel Theo's glare on him and tensed up, lifting his head to meet his glare. "Do you have a problem?"
Theo shrugged, his glare locked on him. "Just still a bit too convenient how you showed up when you did. I don't get why no one's giving you the third degree." His eyes flickered to a curious Stiles who had stopped pacing to tune his attention to the two wolves. "Better yet, why is no one questioning Laci either? You had memories of the dread doctors. What if you're working with him and Isaac here is helping you." Theo went on, his anger getting the best of him
Isaac stood up, his fists clenched as he took a step toward Theo. The wolf in question just smirked and moved to meet him. It was one thing to throw shots at Isaac, but it was another to "Whoa, hey, not cool." Stiles said, moving in between them. "You know Laci's got nothing to do with this, so don't even go there." He said, pushing Theo back a step.
Laci grabbed Isaac's arm, pulling him back. "Everyone's nerves are just shot."
The front door opened behind them and Scott came inside. They all straightened and turned to look at him, hoping for good news."Hey, is Kira okay?" Laci asked. Scott said nothing as he just stormed past them.
"Scott?" Theo asked.
When they all heard Lydia yell, they all started up the stairs. Laci led the way up to Scott's room, stopping short when she saw what was happening. Scott had his claws in the back of Corey's neck. It was a move she'd seen Peter do before. "Don't get too close," Lydia warned them as the others crowded the room.
"What is he doing?"
"He's tapping into Corey's memories," Lydia said. "It's usually something only alphas do."
Theo looked blown away as he came around to get a better look. Laci and Stiles shared a look, not sure this was a good sign. Just because they shared a secret with him, didn't mean they suddenly trusted him. Especially not after his little outburst downstairs. "Is it as dangerous as it looks?" He asked, studying Scott and Corey.
"Probably more," Stiles said, his eyes never leaving his friend.
"Does anyone know if it's working?"
Scott suddenly fell back with a gasp. Stiles and Isaac hurried to catch him. Corey shot up from the bed, feeling sick as he moved across the room away from Scott. Lydia went to his side, checking to make sure he was okay. "Is he okay?" Scott wheezed to Stiles. He was hunched over, trying to catch his breath.
"What the hell did you do to me?" Corey snapped as he touched the back of his neck.
"You'll be alright."
Corey pulled back his hand to see the dark crimson color staining his fingers. "There's blood."
"You'll heal."
"Scott . . ." Stiles tried to start.
"He'll be fine!" He snapped back. "Listen . . . I think it worked. I saw something. There were tunnels. Pipes along the walls." Scott tried to explain as he grabbed a notebook and pencil to try and draw it for them. "There were these huge blue pipes at the entrance. Two on both sides."
Stiles came around to his side, looking over his shoulder to look at his drawing. It didn't take him long to realize he knew where Scott was talking about. "Wait a second. I know this. I've seen it before. That's one of the tunnels I use to skateboard in." His eyes flickered between Scott and Laci. "Remember, my dad caught me one time and told me never to go back."
"It's the water treatment plant," Lydia said, moving to stand at Scott's other side.
"That's where they are." Scott said, "That's where we'll find Liam and Hayden."
It didn't take long for Scott to start moving. He slipped through the small crowd in his room and hurried downstairs. He needed to find Liam and Hayden before it was too late. Laci was quick to follow him, Stiles not far behind her. "Scott . . ." She tried to say, hurrying down the stairs after him. He refused to stop.
"Scott, slow down. Just think for a second, okay?" Stiles tried to reason with him next. "Mason shouldn't be going."
"Liam's my best friend. I'm going." Mason said, moving around him to catch up to Scott.
Stiles knew this was a bad idea. They didn't have a game plan or enough people who could really help. Him, Laci, and Lydia could only do so much. He had a feeling using a bat wasn't going to cut it this time. They didn't know enough about these doctors or how to stop them. They weren't prepared and last time that got people killed. His eyes flickered to Laci, his guilt still killing him over playing a part in her death.
"Oh, did you suddenly get super wolf powers. I wasn't aware of that development." He said sarcastically.
"Well, if you're not going, I could use the help." Scott tried to reason.
"No, I'm coming as soon as I talk to my dad," Stiles said, glancing at his phone. "They're moving the body and he wants to make sure that this time no one steals it."
"How's he gonna do that?" Malia asked.
Stiles wished he had an answer for her, but he didn't. He, Theo, and Laci knew first hand how strong this thing was, and they knew just as much as to how to stop it. "I don't know, but whoever took the last one was strong enough to flip my jeep." He said, worry laced in his voice. His eyes flickered to Laci and Theo, who both nodded in agreement.
"We can bring Theo," Malia suggested. "Or Ivan."
"It's Isaac." Isaac corrected her.
"Whatever."
Isaac looked ready to make a comeback when Theo cleared his throat. The group turned their attention back to him. "Maybe I better stay here. You know, in case the doctors decide to make a house call for Corey." He said, glancing back at a nervous looking Corey.
"Scott, Stiles is right. We need to slow down and think." Lydia said, wishing he'd slow down and just listen to them.
"She's right, Scotty. You can't just rush into this." Laci agreed.
"I am thinking . . . about how Liam and Hayden might already be dead." Scott said, gritting his teeth in annoyance.
"You could have hurt him, Scott. Really hurt him." Lydia said, trying to get Scott to see just how out of it he was being.
"I have to find Liam."
With that, he turned and lead the way out with Mason following him. Malia turned to follow them when Stiles stepped forward. "Hey, text me. For anything." He said, reaching for Malia before she disappeared through the doorway.
"I've got it." She said back, following Mason and Scott out.
"Anything at all. Okay?"
Laci had a bad feeling in the pit of her stomach, knowing something was going to go very wrong with this. Scott wasn't thinking with his head this time, and that never ended well for them. He wasn't going to be careful if he was too worried about his friends. "Isaac," She said, touching his arm to get his attention.
He nodded, already knowing what she was going to ask. "I'm going. I've got his back." He said, moving out of her reach as he jogged to catch up with the trio.
"Thank you." She called out, watching as he left with the others.

Stiles and Laci headed over to the hospital while Lydia and Theo stayed with Corey back at the house. She didn't want him to go alone. The ride over was quiet until Stiles got a call from the mechanic about his car. "You tell me. You're the mechanic. The gas tank didn't rupture, and nothing electrical was burned, then how did the fire start?" He snapped as they rounded a corner together. "Spontaneously combusted? That's your answer? Are you kidding?" They slowed to a stop as the sheriff came out and met them halfway down the hall.
He took Stiles' phone from him, ending the call at he looked at them. "What are you two doing here?"
"Dad, you gotta leave the body, okay? Leave it and let whoever wants to take it just take it."
"Trust me. I'm doing my job, Stiles." The sheriff said, turning his back to them as headed back.
"Yeah, you've been really busy. Arresting people you know are innocent." Stiles shot back, following his dad with Laci hot on his heels.
"Go home. Both of you. Now." The sheriff said as he pressed the button to the elevator. The doors opened and he stepped inside. Stiles and Laci were quick to follow him in. Stiles squared his shoulders, sharing a determined look with his father. "This is not up for debate."
"Well, then, I'm not leaving," Stiles said stubbornly.
The sheriff gave him a look before glancing back at Laci. She simply shrugged, as if there was no other choice for her than to be here. "Sorry, Mr Stilinski. I go where he goes. Someone's got to make sure he doesn't break any more vending machines." She said, sending Stiles a knowing wink.
"What?" The sheriff said in confusion.
"Nothing. Absolutely nothing, dad." Stiles was quick to say.
The sheriff was about to say something before something caught his eyes as the doors slid shut. It was one of the medical staff's key cards. It reminded him of what he'd found out earlier involving Stiles' school key card. "You know, Clark mentioned something about, uh, key cards for the library." He said, clearing his throat as he glanced at his son. "Do you all have after-hours access?" He asked, watching Stiles' reaction.
He almost looked relieved. For a minute, he was worried this questioning would turn into another direction. Glancing back at Laci, he noticed she had a similar look on her face. "Yeah. Yeah, we do. I'd show you mine, but I lost it a couple of weeks ago." He said, clearing his throat as he turned his head back to elevator doors. The sheriff watched him for another few seconds before nodding and facing the doors.
Laci and Stiles went to wait in the waiting room. Laci sat beside him and watched as he took out his school id. His hands shook as he held it in his hand. He studied it for a moment before he dropped it into the waste bin beside him. Laci reached over and squeezed his other hand. "It's going to be alright, Stiles." She said softly.
"I don't think it will be." He said, giving her a sad smile in return.
Laci rested her head on his shoulder, keeping her hand in his as they waited. She closed her eyes, knowing it might be a while until anything happened. The world seemed to go quiet around her, she couldn't even feel Stiles beside her anymore. Instead, she was in the library again. Only this time, it wasn't Stiles in trouble, it was Scott. Mason and her mom were there too. Scott wasn't moving, his chest wasn't rising with breath. Her mom was kneeling beside him, pounding on his chest, begging him to breathe.
Laci woke up with a gasp. She was finding it hard to breathe as she looked around frantically. Scott, she had to find Scott. He was with Mason now. What if that meant he was about to die and she had no way to get to him? She had to stop him. Her mom, she'd find her mom and tell her what she saw. She'd find Scott and everything would be alright.
"Laci? Lace, hey. Hey, breathe. Deep breaths. Look at me. Focus on me, Laci." Stiles said, cupping her face in his hands.
Her eyes finally settled on him, her breathing slowing down as tears streamed down her face. "It-it happened again. I-I saw him. I saw Scott. He was dead. It wasn't a dream, Stiles. It k-keeps happening and I don't . . . I don't know why." She cried, hoping he believed her. She just needed someone to believe her.
Stiles wasn't sure what to believe, but he knew better than to doubt her. She'd had a dream about him at the library and she wasn't exactly wrong. There had to be something there. With everything else on their plates though, he wasn't sure they could be thrown another curveball. Looking at Laci now, he saw just how desperately she needed him to believe her.
"I believe you, Lace. I believe you."
She looked relieved. Finally. Finally, someone believed her.
Before either of them could say anything more, alarms started going off. Something was happening in the morgue and Stiles had to get to his dad. Grabbing her hand, he yanked her up and the two headed downstairs. "Dad? Dad!" He yelled, needing to make sure he was alright. "Dad!" He yelled, hurrying down the hall.
They spotted the sheriff and Parrish standing in the dark hall. "Dad, the body."
The sheriff nodded, raising his gun as the three headed to the room. The two teenagers stayed behind him as he entered the room. He slowed in shock as he took in the sight of the empty tray where the body had been.
Shit.
