Thanks for the review! Don't worry Derek will be brought up eventually when Braeden makes an appearance. I'm actually working on season 6 now and I'm excited to get into it. I can't believe Laci will be coming to an end soon. I feel like I've been writing this story forever. It'll be weird not to write her anymore. I do not own anything in this chapter, besides my oc, everything else belongs to their rightful owners.
Chapter 15
#$%^&%*&$
Laci showed up at the animal clinic with her mom the next morning. Scott and Laci were hurrying around, helping their mom as she prepared her things. Liam stood beside Hayden, holding her hand tightly. Theo stood on the other side of the table, watching as Scott came in with a small cooler. Laci had found out from Scott that even after Scott and Theo tried their best to save her, the dread doctors were still able to inject Hayden with mercury.
"What's that?" Liam asked when he noticed what was in Melissa's hands.
She came over to Hayden, focusing on the task at hand. "It's called chelation therapy. It removed heavy metals from the blood, but the problem is, is that it can injure the kidneys and Hayden only has one to begin with, so . . ." Melissa said as she got the needle ready.
Hayden cried in pain when she injected the needle, causing Liam to panic. "Hey, you're hurting her."
Liam grabbed onto Melissa's arm tightly, stopping her from continuing. "And you're hurting me."
Scott's eyes immediately snapped to Liam. Laci tensed up, watching as realization seemed to hit Liam. He looked guilty as he slowly let her go with a quiet apology.
"Hey, guys . . ." Theo spoke up. "Remember we're here to save a life. Not kill each other."
"It's the full moon." Scott said, reasoning away Liam's anger. "We can feel it even during the day."
He knew Liam was scared and angry with him. He knew those feelings were intensified with the full moon. He just really hoped whatever it was his mom was trying worked for Liam and Hayden's sakes.
"And it's a supermoon." Theo pointed out."
"What does that mean? Is it like the solar eclipse?" Laci asked, glancing between werewolves.
If that was the case, she'd need to warn Isaac. Even if it wasn't, she still wanted to warn him so he could be prepared. Of course, he'd need to be talking to her for her to do that. He still was upset about their conversation yesterday in the hallway. She didn't blame him.
Scott shook his head, his eyes flickering between his mom and sister to see they were both very confused. Melissa didn't like his silence. "What? Does it make you guys super strong? Super aggressive?" She asked as she hooked up the IV.
"Both." Scott said with a heavy sigh.
%^&*&(^(*^
Laci, Scott, and Theo all moved to the waiting room while Melissa worked on Hayden. Liam refused to leave her side, which was expected. Laci glanced at her phone for what seemed like the hundredth time. She had texted Isaac, telling him about the supermoon, but she hadn't gotten any kind of reply yet. It worried her, but with everything else going she knew there were bigger things to worry about.
"You know we're going to need help with him." Theo said over to Scott.
"He'll be alright."
He leaned back in his seat, his eyes glancing between the twins. "He's sixteen and in love. First love. You remember what that's like?"
Laci cringed at the same line Derek had used on her once upon a time. Only it'd been to yell at her how she didn't know what love was. She was child and didn't know any better. Now she was older and could see he'd been right. Granted she had fallen in love with Isaac, whether Derek liked it or not.
"Yeah, trust me, I remember." Scott said, his voice quiet as he thought about Allison.
Laci's eyes flickered to her brother to see he was lost in thought, probably thinking about a certain archer they'd lost. Guilt hit her, knowing it wasn't fair. She got to come back and live her life and Allison didn't.
"All those emotions mixed with the supermoon. Tonight isn't going to be good."
Scott sighed heavily. "I know."
Theo glanced over at Scott. He honestly looked worried about everything that had been going on and what was to come. "We need help, and I don't mean restraints or chains. I mean Malia, Stiles, Lydia. You need your pack, Scott." He said, studying Scott's reaction.
Scott stared out blankly. Laci reached over and squeezed his hand. She knew this was hitting him hard and he blamed himself for Hayden being sick. She knew saying no to Liam was hard for him to do. He hated breaking promises to his friends. He knew Hayden was going to die, but he couldn't put her through more pain.
"I'm not sure I have one anymore." Scott said blankly.
He was losing his friends. Not just Liam, but Malia and Stiles too. They were barely a pack anymore, let alone friends at this point. His fight with Stiles still bothered him. He wanted to believe him so badly, but the way Theo had described what happened . . . it wasn't right. They were supposed to be the good guys.
"Let me talk to them." Theo said, glancing over. "Let me see what I can do. Okay?"
Laci's eyes narrowed on him. She didn't trust Theo, and that distrust was growing stronger every day. She knew it was Theo talking in Malia's ear about Isaac and her. She just didn't know why he was doing it. She watched as he got up from his chair and started walking away.
"Theo." Scott said out. Theo paused at the door. "Thank you."
Laci waited until Theo was gone before turning to her brother. "I don't trust him, Scott."
Scott looked taken back. Theo had done nothing but help them since he got back to town, he'd been nothing but a friend to them. "How can you not trust him? He's been a lot of help." He said quietly.
Laci glanced at the door he'd just left through. She knew it didn't make any sense why she still didn't trust him. She just had a feeling in her gut. "I just don't. I can't explain it, just something about him gives me a bad feeling. Stiles doesn't trust him either." She said, as if that was all the proof she needed.
Scott tensed at the mention of his best friend. Guilt and disappointment hit him. He felt guilty for not trusting his friend's word, but he couldn't get past what he'd done. "After what Stiles did, I can't . . . it's just hard to believe him right now." He said sadly, refusing to meet her confused gaze.
He knew. Laci could see it in the way he wasn't meeting her eyes. Scott found out about Donovan and must have had a falling out with Stiles. Well, that explained the mood he'd been in since last night. "You know about Donovan." She didn't ask, she knew he did.
Scott looked surprised she knew. A spark of anger hit him. She'd known what Stiles had done and hadn't said anything to him about it. She knew how Stiles had . . . murdered that guy and kept it from him. "Stiles told you?" He asked, still in disbelief.
He couldn't tell if he was more angry or hurt that Stiles had trusted Laci with his secret. There was a time when Stiles told him everything, no matter how bad it was. "Not willingly. I found out on accident. Scott, what happened? Did you and Stiles fight?" She asked. She was worried for the answer. From the look on Scott's face, she had a feeling she wasn't going to like whatever answer she got.
"How can you be so calm about this? He killed Donovan." Scott asked.
Laci needed to move. She couldn't sit still anymore. The way Scott made it sound, it didn't sound like an accident. Stiles had told her what happened. He'd been trying to save himself and his dad. It'd been an accident. "It wasn't like he had a choice, Scott. Donovan was going to kill him and his dad." Laci said, glancing back as she crossed her arms.
"That doesn't give him a free pass!" Scott snapped, his anger getting the best of him.
Laci looked taken back. Scott was doing exactly what Stiles was afraid he'd do. He was judging him and turned against him. Instead of hearing his friend out, his best friend at that, he was instead trusting a stranger. It didn't make any sense. Had Theo gotten her brother's head so twisted up he couldn't see what was right in front of him?
"I need to get out of here. Call me if there's any change." Laci said, grabbing her things quickly.
Scott just nodded as he watched her storm out the door. He knew he'd just lost another person as she slammed the door behind her.
#$%^^$^%$
After a long drive, Laci ended up at the graveyard of all places. Looking around, she noticed a familiar bike parked near by. With a heavy sigh, she got out of her car and headed through the gates. She wasn't surprised to find Isaac sitting at their spot. As she got closer, she saw that he was sitting in front of his brother's grave.
She remembered Camden Lahey vaguely. He'd been a few years older than her, but she remembered seeing him in the hallways at school. He was the captain of the swimming team his dad coached. He was that generation's Jackson Whitmore. He was nice to Isaac though. He looked out for him until he went off to war. When he didn't come home again, it broke the Lahey household.
"The anniversary of his death is coming up, isn't it?" She said, stuffing her hands into her pockets as she stood behind him.
If she'd startled him, he didn't show it. He didn't move from his spot or moved his eyes from the marble stone. "I blamed Cam for so many things since he died. He left, broke his promises of coming back. Dad was never the same after his death. He was already losing it after my mom left us. Cam was the last straw." He went on, wiping his eyes as he spoke.
Laci hesitated, waiting to see where he went with this.
"I thought it was Cam's fault our dad was the way he was. All those years of being locked in that freezer, I blamed him for it. It wasn't until you died that I understood that anger he had. I felt it. I wanted to murder someone I was so angry. The first couple weeks in Paris were the hardest. I kept losing control and thinking of you just made it worse." He went on to explain.
Laci squeezed his shoulder, encouraging him to go on. "I heard rumors of there being this spell, I guess it was. It could bring you back. I searched for months for any kinds of leads on it. I finally met this girl. Her name was Davina. She said she could do the spell, but there was a price. I had to help her out of some trouble with this guy Vincent. Seemed easy enough."
"Isaac, you didn't." She said, sadness in her voice.
She knew it had to have been hard on him, but she wouldn't have wanted him to find himself in trouble because of her. Isaac cleared his throat, finally turning his head to look at her. "When you asked about the dread doctors, I got mad because you doubted me. Once upon a time, we used to be so close and it hurt to have you question me." He explained, wanting her to see it from his view.
She hesitated before reaching over and squeezing his hand. "What happened with that girl, Isaac?"
Isaac looked hesitant to answer her and her heart tightened, wondering what he didn't want to tell her. She wanted to know though, needed to know. He took a deep breath, rubbing his neck awkwardly before glancing over. "We went out a few times. I really liked her a lot. She helped me through grieving for you and Allison. She promised she wouldn't leave me." He paused, his emotions getting the best of him. She had a feeling she knew where this was going. "She broke her promise. The spell was too strong for her. Her body couldn't handle it. She died in my arms."
Laci felt the tears stinging her eyes. Her heart went out to Isaac. He could have been happy if he hadn't been trying to bring her back. If only he could have known the dread doctors would do it for him not much long after. His friend had died in vain, and for that she felt guilty. "Isaac, I'm so sorry." She said, kissing his hand.
He let out a sad chuckle. "If only we had waited a few more days, she wouldn't have had to do the spell after all. She should have waited, why didn't she wait?"
She couldn't answer that for him. She could see how upset he was about this still. He'd really liked this girl, she realized. She had helped him through Laci's death. For that, she owed her a lot. As much as she hated the idea he'd moved on, she was happy he'd found someone to get him through all the sadness. She just wished this Davina girl hadn't risked her life for her.
Laci wrapped her arms around him, letting him lean on her. She'd completely forgotten what she'd been so upset about when she got here. As worried as she was about Stiles, this was where she needed to be. Isaac needed her more she realized as he cried into her shoulder. She ran her fingers through his hair, whispering words of comfort to him. He'd lost another friend.
Her phone going off ruined the silence that had fallen over them. She hesitated before pulling it out from her jacket. She paused, seeing Stiles' name flashing on the screen. Isaac watched curiously as she ignored the call and slipped her phone back. "What's going on there?" He asked, wiping away the last of his tears.
Laci look hesitant on answering him. "Stiles and Scott had a falling out last night. I can't get in the middle of it. I can't choose between them."
Their trio was what got them through school and life. Whatever life threw at them, they got the other through it. When Scott first was bitten, Stiles had been there from the beginning. When their dad left, it was Stiles who picked up the pieces. When his mom had died, they helped him get back on his feet. Any time she needed a shoulder to lean on, Stiles was there to offer his.
Since she's been back though, it's been different. Stiles was keeping secrets from Scott. Scott wasn't trusting his friends, and she was stuck in between.
"Had to be pretty serious if those two fought." Isaac said, knowing just close Scott and Stiles were.
Laci didn't know if she should tell Isaac what Stiles had been hiding, but after what he'd just confessed to her, she owed him the truth. "There was this boy, Donovan. He blames the sheriff for his dad's accident. Somehow Donovan was chosen to be a chimera and he went after Stiles. I don't know all the details but Donovan ended up falling and being killed. Stiles refused to tell anyone what had happened. I found out on accident and somehow Scott found out because he went off on Stiles last night about it. Now they're not talking, and Malia and Lydia are MIA. Liam's about to crack, and Theo's playing hero." She explained as best she could.
"You don't trust Theo." Isaac said, already knowing it to be true.
She shook her head. "No. I think he's playing an angle here. He fed Malia all that crap about you and he's been talking in both Stiles and Scott's ears. Scott found out about Donovan somehow and the only three people who knew were Stiles, Theo, and me." She pointed out. She glanced over to Isaac as she pulled her knees up to her chest, hugging them to her.
Isaac nodded, listening to her. "He's turning everyone against each other, but why? What's he gain by tearing apart the pack?"
Laci's eyes widened upon realization. "He came to town for a pack. He wants Scott's pack."
She scrambled to get to her feet, hurrying to pull out her cellphone. Isaac hurried to climb to his feet and follow her. She had to call Scott and warn him about Theo. She had a sinking feeling in her stomach tonight was going to be big. If Theo was going to throw a coup over Scott, it was going to be during the supermoon.
"Call Stiles. I'll call Scott. Tell him he needs to find Scott." She said as she sped walked through the graveyard back to the parking lot. Isaac was hot on her heels pulling out his phone.
Dialing her brother's number, she tried to call him. It went straight to voicemall.
#$$%^$$&
After getting Scott's voicemail for the tenth time, they finally got Stiles on the phone. He was following Parrish. Laci and Isaac hurried to meet him so they could figure out where Parrish was taking the bodies. They got there just as Stiles was getting ready to call Scott. Laci and Isaac got out as another pair of headlights came in behind them. Laci recognized the truck and tensed.
It was Theo.
Before she could warn Stiles, Theo was parking and getting out of his truck. "Sorry, I got here as fast as I could . . ."
"We gotta go. Now. Parrish has got the bodies." Stiles said, glancing between the three of them.
"Stiles, hold on." Laci tried to say as she saw him head for Theo's truck.
No way did she want him anywhere near, let alone by himself, with Theo. She reached for him as he passed her, but her fingers just barely missed him. Theo looked between them, knowing this wasn't part of his plan. "Okay, wait up . . . Stiles, wait!" He called after him.
"Parrish is out and he's got the bodies. We've got to find Scott and we've got to tell him." Stiles said, ignoring them as he went to climb into Theo's truck.
"Stiles!" He shouted, stopping Stiles where he stood. "I don't think Scott wants to talk to you right now."
Laci's eyes flickered between both boys suspiciously. She didn't like where this was going and the fact Scott wasn't answering his phone. It wasn't like him and it was starting to worry her.
"Yeah, thanks. I'm well aware of that. It doesn't matter. He needs to know about this." Stiles said, turning toward the truck again.
"Stiles . . . Scott doesn't want to talk to you." Theo said. Stiles came around the side of the truck. "But I think your dad does." He said, holding up Stiles' library card.
Laci's eyes widened as realization hit Stiles. "Your dad was looking for you, Stiles. He found me instead."
"Where is he?"
Laci and Isaac watched as Stiles followed Theo tensely. If he'd gotten Stiles' dad involved in this somehow, it wasn't going to end well. Laci gripped Isaac's hand, her worry getting the best of her. Not just for the sheriff, but for her brother as well. "I covered for you. This was taken care of. If Melissa didn't find it at the hospital . . . guess even the son of a cop can make a mistake." Theo went on.
Laci tensed at the mention of her mother. Isaac growled, baring his teeth as he watched Theo move around. "Where's the sheriff, Theo? What did you do?" She asked, her eyes following him cautiously.
"I never lied about why I came to Beacon Hills. I'm here for a pack."
"He just never meant to be part of Scott's." Laci spoke out, her eyes narrowing on the boy in question.
Theo looked impressed she figured it out. It was too bad, because he really did like her. She was probably the only one he wanted to keep around. He knew she was going to do great things once she got a handle on her powers. Powers he had them give to her. "Too smart for your own good, Laci. Maybe I shouldn't have had them bring you back. Did you figure that out too?" He taunted, causing Isaac to growl as he stepped in front of Laci.
Laci pushed his arm away, not letting him block her. "I was your initial in with Scott and Stiles. If you found me, you scored major points with them."
Theo chuckled, nodding. "It was so easy to win them over. I came for the werecoyote. The one who's first instint is to kill. I came for the banshee, the girl surrounded by death. I came for the dark kitsune . . . the beta with anger issues . . . I came for void Stiles and the seer, the girl brought back from the dead. That's the pack I want." Theo went on, looking between Laci and Stiles.
"Unfortunately, it doesn't include Scott or Isaac. You weren't supposed to come back to town. Davina was suppose to keep you there distracted. She screwed that up when she started falling for you." He revealed, grinning at the looks of surprise on Isaac's and Laci's face.
Stiles clenched his fists. Laci came up behind him and touched his arm, hoping to calm him down. With a glance back to Isaac, she could see Theo had hit a sore spot with him about Davina. He was this close to shifting and killing Theo right there and then. The effects from the supermoon couldn't be helping that either.
"I can feel all of your heart beats rising." Theo said with a grin, his ears narrowing on Stiles. "It's not because you're afraid. Nogitsune is gone, but you've still got more blood on your hands than any of us. Laci's blood."
He was taunting Stiles now, egging him on, and Stiles was feeding into it. "I'm about to get more."
"I'll tell you where your dad is." Theo said. "If you promise, if you all promise, not to help Scott."
"Where's my brother?" Laci demanded.
Before he could answer, Stiles threw a punch, hitting him square in the jaw. Theo grunted in pain as he fell to the side. Instead of nursing his wound, he chuckled. "There he is! That's void Stiles. It felt good, didn't it?" Stiles punched him again. Theo went down, spitting out blood. "We won't tell Scott. 'Cause you can't lose your best friend, right? Even though we both know you never needed him." Theo said just before Stiles lunged at him.
Isaac was quick to pull him off. Laci grabbed his other arm. Theo stayed on the ground, laughing as he watched Stiles struggle. "You hate me now, but you'll get it eventually. This is the hard part. 'Cause you can't help Scott and save your dad's life." He said as he laid up on his elbow. "You've still got time, Stiles. You've still got time."
Laci tugged on Stiles arm. She knew this reaction was what Theo wanted from him. She couldn't let Stiles become what Theo thought he could be. "Stiles, come on. We need to find your dad. He's not worth it." She said, hoping he'd listen to her.
Stiles looked conflicted. He wanted to kick Theo's ass for everything he's done to him and his friends. He wanted to make him pay for what he did. Looking at Laci though, he felt his anger simmer down. She thought he was better than this anger. She knew he was. With a heavy sigh, he turned his attention back to Theo. "Where's my dad?" He asked, his voice full of guilt as he turned his back on his friend.
Laci listened as Theo gave them the directions. Once they got the information they needed, they all piled into her car and started driving. She had a sinking feeling she was leaving Scott in danger, but she was hoping he was strong enough to pull himself out of it. Stiles needed her support and her help. She could send Isaac to find him, but she knew if he went Theo wouldn't tell Stiles where his father was.
When they got there, Stiles was the first one to go in. Laci went in after him and Isaac after her. It was the place Hayden and Liam were being kept just days ago. The sheriff was laying on the ground, covered in his own blood. "Dad!" Stiles called out, jumping over some rubble as he made his way over to him.
He fell to his knees, taking his dad's hand. He was alive, he'd made it in time.
"Laci, call 911." He said back, his eyes never leaving his dad.
She nodded and hurried to find a spot where she got signal. When she wasn't getting a strong enough signal she touched Isaac's arm before going back outside to call and give them the directions. Isaac watched as Stiles talked to his dad, telling him to stay awake.
#$^%$^%$#
While Stiles and Isaac went to the hospital with the sheriff, Laci hurried home. She'd gotten a few calls from her mom explaining what happened and asking where she was. Scott had been hurt badly, but he was going to be okay. She wasn't going to believe it until she saw him for herself though.
She pushed the door open, her eyes scanning for any sight of her family. "Mom? Scott!"
"Up here!" Her mom called back.
Without a moments hesitation, she hurried up the stairs. She went straight to Scott's room, knowing that's where they'd be. Scott was laying in his bed, their mom sitting in the seat beside him. "Thank god." She muttered before hurrying over and throwing her arms around him.
He was okay.
Scott wrapped his arm around her, giving her a weak squeeze. He kissed her head, whispering to her that he was alright. He wasn't sure if alright was the right word for it, but he knew that's what she needed to hear. Laci curled up into the bed beside him, not letting him out of her sight for another second.
"I lost, mom." Scott said over, glancing between the two of them.
Their mom was bandaging his wounds that weren't healing as quick. She needed to do something or she'd go crazy. "Every leader suffers loss. Sometimes more than you think is bearable." She said, glancing up at her children.
"But this time I lost almost everyone." Scott said, glancing at Laci.
She felt guilty for not going to help him, or for asking Isaac to help him. It really did feel like Theo had won. Stiles and Scott weren't talking, Malia was keeping secrets, Kira had to leave town, and Lydia was busy helping Parrish. Even she had her own issues to work though. She knew though, no matter how far they drifted apart, they'd find their way back. "We're a family, Scott. A pack. They'll come back." She said, squeezing his free hand.
"Why would they come back?"
Melissa smiled weakly, putting her hand over his. "Because you're their leader, and even when a leader thinks they have nothing left to give, there's still one thing." Scott looked at her skeptically. Laci was curious.
"Hope. Give them hope."
