A/N* Better late than never, right? :D
Happy reading!
"Cap, it's Sam, can you read me?"
Shock brought Aubrey to stand still, it worked its way through her, leaving a tingling numbness behind.
"On your left" came Sam's voice again.
It convinced her that she wasn't hallucinating.
Both she and Cap turned to the left in time to see a sparking orange line appear and create a circle. The circle widened and changed color as sunshine shown through and three figures stepped out.
Shuri, Okoye, and T'Challa. Aubrey met Shuri's gaze, blinking away the tears that threatened to fall when her head gave the slightest of nods.
Falcon flew out from somewhere behind them, his metal wings glinting as dozens more of the portals opened, showing places from every corner of the earth and galaxy.
This was their miracle.
Aubrey's hands shook as she summoned her bow, puffing a breath out of her lips. The sound of thousands of feet reverberated in her ears as Wakanda's troops followed T'Challa out.
"Yibambe!" He shouted, the troops echoed the warcry as ships slid out from more of the portals
She didn't know how this was happening but she was glad that it was.
And then she saw him exit the portal. Somehow, just seeing him made her even more hopeful.
If they died, at least she got to see him one more time before her death.
The Asgardians exited another portal, Valkyrie atop a Pegasus with Wanda Maximoff not far behind.
The ground rumbled and shook as the wreckage to her right exploded and a giant Antman appeared.
They had their army, and Thanos would have his fight.
But he would not win.
Aubrey's eyes shot around the hero's, in search of Bucky but he was lost in the crowd. She backed to where Pepper had landed, shooting the woman a grateful look. She hoped Morgan was far from this danger. Cap heaved a breath, tightening his shield once more and catching Mjolnir.
"Avengers..-" He cast one long look at the many people around him, friends, and family. Pride shimmered from his eyes as the word left his mouth."-Assemble."
A warcry left their mouths as they surged forward. The opposing side did the same, yowls of anger rising from their ranks. Aubrey flared her wings and pushed her jets as she took to the sky with the other flyers. War Machine blasted ahead, Pepper not far behind. A whinnying sound came as a Pegasus flew by. Grinning, she shot several of Barton's explosive arrows before swooping down and picking off some of the creatures. Aubrey just barely dodged out of the way as one of the Chitari monsters crashed to the ground. The Avengers launched into battle. One of the larger beasts caught her off guard and Aubrey had to swerve in order to keep it from ripping off her wings. It let out a growl of frustration, pounding the ground as Aubrey shot an arrow into its leg. Her face zinged with pain every time she moved and her battered body cried for rest but the fight was not over yet. The beast launched from the ground, its clawed hand catching her foot and pulling her to the ground. Aubrey pulled a knife from her belt and thrust it into its wrist just as repetitive gunshots sounded and the beast went limp. She half fell, half flew to the ground, recoiling as she pried the limp hand off of her leg. A glinting metal hand came into her view, outstretched to help her up.
Aubrey didn't hesitate. She grabbed the hand, coming to her feet and pulling Bucky into a tight hug. His metal arm wrapped around her shoulders for a moment. They let go and his lips quirked "Missed me bad, huh?"
"More than you'll ever know" Aubrey murmured, eyes misting. But they didn't have time to reacquaint further because more waves were headed their way.
And just like that, it became like when they fought Ultron.
Aubrey worked from the sky, above Bucky, and he worked on the ground, gun in hand. They took down one after another. Vaguely she heard voices in her commlink,
"Get those things as far away as possible Barton" Cap's voice sounded. Aubrey touched the commlink, speaking into it.
"No, Cap, they need to go back to their timelines, I promised someone they would be returned."
"No way to get 'em back, Thanos destroyed the Quantum Tunnel." Tony snapped.
In her peripheral vision, she saw Ant-man shrink down and push a button. "Hold on! That wasn't our only time machine"
A melody played in the distance and Cap asked "Does anyone see an ugly brown van?"
"Yes! But you're not gonna like where it's parked." Valkyrie sounded strained as they formed a plan for Ant-man to get the van working so they could use it to return the stones. Silence on the comm lines followed and Aubrey landed behind Bucky, words rushing out of her mouth.
"We have to get the stones back to their timelines, Ant-man is gonna try and get a Quantum Tunnel working, we have to protect the stones till he's ready."
He nodded once. That was when Aubrey's eyes caught Spiderman being overwhelmed by creatures. She murmured to Bucky before darting over, notching several arrows and letting them fly. One of them caused a small explosion, killing some of the creatures on top of Spiderman. He lept from the pile, metal appendages like legs protruding from his back as they made quick work of the rest. He said something to his suit and the eyes went from red to blue. The Gauntlet shone in his hand, humming with explosive energy.
But then screams of terror rose up in the battlefield as white-blue missiles rained down on the ground. The earth shook with ferocity and she had trouble staying airborne as rocks shot through the air. A red-clad woman and man hurried closer as she landed. Their hands moved in sync as they summoned a glowing orange forcefield. Bucky joined them underneath it, eyes flashing. Spiderman flashed a look of thanks at Aubrey before darting back into the fray. A web shot out and he latched onto Mjolnir, flying out of sight. A missile landed beside their field, sending them flying through the air. Aubrey tried to flare her wings but it happened too quickly. Dust rose up and she coughed, rock pelting her.
And then it stopped.
It seemed the miracles were not over yet.
The air seemed to freeze around them, everyone looking up as the ships locked onto a new target...something in the clouds.
It glowed with white-hot fire, shooting through the air, straight at the ships...barreling through them.
Captain Marvel.
